This Tuesday we're talking about state associations banding together to push back against Ford's plan to separate EV and ICE dealers. We also talk about the broader layoffs being announced in the tech space, as well as a preview of how much this years Thanksgiving might cost. Dealer associations across the country are accusing Ford of overburdening their dealer body and breaking franchise laws in a joint letter from over 13 separate state associations in response Ford's recent required investment of $500k to over $1M on facility upgrades, staff training and new sales standards in order to sell EVs. Several State association leaders including John Devlin of PAAA, Don Hall VADA, and Robert Glaser of NCADA all signed the provision as well as sending a separate letter on behalf of their states Dealers arguing the same Tim Hovik, chairman of Ford's National Dealer Council says the the company were aware of the state associations position and communicated they are still able to make changes while noting the dealer council is on board with the where things are heading but said the word ‘supportive' might be too strong a word.Elon Musk's Twitter layoffs weren't an isolated event as the tech and startup sectors ready themselves for border layoffs as economic conditions are considering hiring policies to stay competitive and profitableThe Fed's intention of raising the borrowing rates to more than 4% substantially changes the way businesses will operate. Daily life in the age of the coronavirus is riddled with stressors and stress can lead to increased substance use — as well as the possibility of relapse for those working to stay sober. Host Sarah Fenske talks with Jenny Armbruster of NCADA and also hears from people in long-term recovery as they discuss substance use disorder, relapse and navigating tough conversations in the age of COVID-19.
Jordan Hampton works with with ARCHway Institute, NCADA, and Recovery House in the St Louis area. Aside from being a peer counselor, Jordan is also a living, breathing example of how these organizations can help people recover from addiction. Jordan, himself, is in long-term recovery from his addictions. In this episode, Lern sits down for some coffee, informative conversation about the resources available and how those suffering with addiction have never had a better opportunity than the present day to get help. This topic is heavy but definitely a ‘must-hear’ for everyone, as the epidemic of drug addiction is something that affects us all. We are trying to break the stigma and give hope to people through the art of communicating, and Jordan’s story is definitely one to hear. Through this episode you may hear information you will want to write down, so please feel free to grab a pen and pass this information on. We also hope this conversation ignites people to talk with others about addiction and finding the strength to get the help they may need.
From its early Lemp Brewery days to the Schlafly era and beyond, St. Louis has earned its reputation as a drinking town. But lately the city is also seeing a nightlife trend that doesn’t involve alcohol at all. Among other beverage and restaurant industry professionals, the people behind WellBeing Brewing, a locally based company that exclusively makes non-alcoholic craft beer, have helped to catalyze the movement. So has the Wellness Council of St. Louis, which is affiliated with the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse and oversees Sans Bar STL. The inaugural Sans Bar STL event early this year drew about 300 people to Third Degree Glass Factory for a night of music, glass-blowing, tarot card readings and handcrafted alcohol-free drinks. Host Sarah Fenske discusses St. Louis’ growing sobriety scene with Genevieve Barlow, co-founder of WellBeing Brewing; restaurant industry veteran Tom Halaska; and Nichole Dawsey, executive director of NCADA.

In the midst of a nationwide opioid epidemic among U.S. adults, one organization in the St. Louis region is seeing some more positive trends among younger people when it comes to substance use.
NCADANicole Browning, Clinical Director www.ncada-stl.org (314)962-3456info@mcada-stl.org 9355 Olive BoulevardSt. Louis, MO 63132 NCADA works to reduce or prevent the harms of alcohol and other drug use through education, intervention and advocacy. In all matters related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse, the NCADA has been the place to turn since 1965. Substance use disorder is the leading contributor to death and injury among young people. This is unacceptable. Teenagers and young adults—with their lives full of promise and untapped potential—are too often struck down from a condition which is not only treatable, but preventable. So one of the NCADA’s major goals is to teach young people the skills needed to resist the pressures to use and abuse drugs. We offer proven, evidence- and best-practices-based curricula for every grade from K-12 in nearly 300 schools in the region. Additionally, we offer youth leadership programs and a wide range of non-school-based prevention services. In a normal year the NCADA offers prevention and education services to over 100,000 people. NCADA is a proud member of the United Way, meets the 20 Better Business Bureau standards for charity accountability and was a 2013 recipient of the BBB TORCH Award for exceptional customer service and ethical business practices.
Brandon Costerison of NCADA and Kathi Arbini of Fenton, Missouri discuss their efforts to curb the rising number of opioid-related deaths.
Host Don Marsh talked with about the scope of the opioid epidemic and a new program that seeks to prevent drug use.
