This episode originally aired as Episode 169 on March 7, 2025, and became one of your favourites of the year. We're bringing it back because this conversation on letting go and making aligned decisions really resonated. If you missed it the first time or want to revisit, here we go… Loves, I'm attempting to be useful in two ways today. BONUS. 1) Let's talk about decision making, how to know when it's right or wrong. 2) And how the ego loves to look good. And thus! how letting go of status concepts can be radically liberating and HEALING. I once traded a status symbol (sexy Audi, FAST) for a soul symbol (pre-owned VW, FREE). Turns out, less status = more me. More LIFE. In this episode: How the ego masks self-worth struggles with status symbols The surprising freedom in less (and why "downgrade to upgrade" is real) The three red flags that signal a misaligned decision A spiritual approach to right-sizing your life—beyond logic, beyond labels MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: Follow + subscribe to With Love, Danielle on Substack for weekly podcasts, essays + more (formerly known as The Sacred)

On this Foresight Radio recording of Tech Tuesday, host Steve Moran sits down with Jake Rothstein, founder of Papa and now Upside (formerly UpsideHom), to rethink what "aging in place" really means. Starting from his grandparents' journey, Jake shares how Upside became a "housing easy button" for health plans — matching vulnerable members to safe, affordable apartments and support without laying a single brick. We cover the 5 D's trigger events, why case managers are pivotal, how flex funds unlock moves (deposits, movers, utilities, furniture), and why housing stability delivers a clear ROI for insurers. Jake also gets candid about early failures (hello, Golden Girls co-living) and tells a powerful success story about Joanna, who went from an unsafe unit to long-term stability. If you're a senior living operator, hear how Upside can fill your buildings by transitioning the right residents from SNFs and the community. Plus: Steve teases a big announcement coming later this week… Top Takeaways Aging-in-the-right-place > aging-in-place: Most older adults want to stay home—until a trigger (the 5 D's: Death, Disaster, Divorce, Disability, and Downsizing) makes it unsafe or unsustainable. Housing as healthcare: Upside partners with Medicare Advantage/Medicaid plans; stable housing cuts risk and cost, creating measurable insurer ROI. The "easy button" for case managers: Health plans refer members with housing instability; Upside rapidly matches them via a national network (multifamily, single-family, rooms, Section 8). Resources many seniors miss: Upside helps unlock SNAP, benefits, and plan flex funds (deposits, movers, utilities, furniture) to make moves possible. What didn't work (and why): Early "Golden Girls" co-living in single-family homes didn't scale—apartment partnerships and tech to track real-time inventory did. Operators benefit: Upside transitions qualified members from SNFs to IL/AL/MC, helping communities increase occupancy—including private-pay options from unlocked assets. Advocacy + access wins: Beyond units, families need navigation; the right advocate turns a confusing system into sustainable stability.

The downsizing mindset isn't just about moving to a smaller home or getting rid of clutter. It's a lifestyle that creates a habit of routinely shedding excess weight from your life. If you're feeling heaviness and overwhelm, embracing a downsizing approach to life may serve as an act of personal liberation. Detaching from possessions often frees up time, money, and energy for what really matters. It may also release you from the societal pressure to constantly accumulate more. A downsizing mindset quietly trades excess for ease and distraction for depth. On today's show podcaster and organizer Tracy Hoth suggests simple routines to usher in the downsizing mindset, whether you're planning to move in the near future or not. What's worth keeping—and what needs to go—when it comes to modern evangelicalism? In this episode of the Future Christian Podcast, host Loren Richmond Jr. talks with author Michelle Van Loon, whose new book Downsizing: Letting Go of Evangelicalism's Non-Essentials explores the story of evangelical faith from its post–World War II roots to today's crisis of credibility. Drawing from her own journey—from a secular Jewish upbringing to decades inside evangelical churches—Van Loon offers an unflinching yet hopeful look at the movement's excesses, blind spots, and spiritual gifts worth preserving. Together, Loren and Michelle unpack: The distinction between revival and revivalism—and why chasing emotional “mountaintop” moments misses the point. The long shadow of leaders like James Dobson and Bill Gothard, and how their influence shaped evangelical culture. The roots of authoritarianism and control in religious systems—and what healthy spiritual authority looks like. Why humility and listening matter more than programs or platforms. What it means to “downsize” faith while still holding on to Jesus. Van Loon reminds listeners that faith is not about clinging to institutions but about rediscovering the way of Christ—one marked by honesty, empathy, and hope.

The oldest members of Gen X are facing retirement, and many are feeling unprepared. Traditional pensions disappeared just as Gen X entered the workforce. 401(k)s weren't mainstream until much later. Jamie Kennedy's return to Undressed is like a double shot of espresso—smooth, bold, and a little wild. In this second part of our 100th episode, Jamie opens up about love, money, and the kind of bag that can make a grown man tear up. He paints a cinematic picture of gifting his “Audrey Hepburn” of a girlfriend a $4,000 Louis Vuitton from the Beverly Center—the shriek, the joy, the protective hook for the bag in her car—and then confesses he's eyeing a Birkin next (“thirty grand, chumps!”). It's the kind of moment that makes you laugh while tugging at your heart, especially as he reveals she didn't grow up with nice things and now cherishes every detail. From there, the convo swings from the surreal (Jamie's jaw dropping at a military parade featuring Kim Jong-un, Xi Jinping, and Putin) to the hilarious (banter about whether “the gays” would make jail “pretty” and Martha Stewart's jail doilies) to pure Hollywood gossip—like the shocker that Sabrina Carpenter's aunt is actually Bart Simpson (Nancy Cartwright!) and the low-key fortune Jennifer Tilly made off The Simpsons. But the real pulse of this episode beats in Jamie's vulnerability. He opens up about losing both parents, downsizing his life pre-COVID, Alyssa moving in, their pandemic ping-pong and naked sunbathing, and his current crossroads: rebuying his old Los Feliz home or starting fresh in Beverly Hills, Vegas, or even New Orleans. It's a midlife-meets-career confession that feels both raw and refreshingly unfiltered. Then comes the mystical twist. During his live coffee reading, a heart literally forms at the bottom of his cup—Pol' and Patrik see it too—and the energy in the studio shifts. The reading nudges Jamie toward love, partnership, and maybe even fatherhood (“Alyssa would be such a good mom”), as he wrestles with whether to finally “put a ring on it.” It's intimate, disarming, and strangely prophetic. Of course, the episode isn't all tears. Jamie dives headfirst into Runway Rundown, roasting and raving over Sophie Turner's sultry “I'm single” lace look, Chloe Sevigny's “Halloween Horror Nights” couture disaster, Austin Butler's 1975 porn-leather misstep, and even his own past fashion crimes (a black mesh headbanded ensemble he swears was for Kicking It Old School, but the hosts say screams “Motherlode at 3 a.m.”). The mix of self-deprecation and bold honesty is pure Jamie. By the end, you've laughed at Missy Elliott booting him out of a Phantom, gasped at the Seminole Hard Rock “death suite” he unknowingly slept in, and leaned forward as he weighs buying Raven-Symoné's Porsche. It's the ultimate Jamie Kennedy blend—Hollywood chaos, heartfelt confessions, and a coffee reading that feels like a cosmic mic drop. This is another Hurrdat Media Production. MaryEllen Lundy has thought of everything, it seems, with An Eco-Organized Approach downsizing! It's inspiring to hear her talk about how circular her system is, from cleaning out to rehoming belongings, and everything in between. She shares a few stories that show just how much thought and care goes into her projects, which makes sense, considering she is entering someone's home and personal space, and helping them let go of things they've held tight to- it takes a very special personality to handle the deep emotional ties that some folks have to their belongings (I'm one of those people - things hold memories for me because my brain doesn't recall well without help), and gently assisting with the removal, or cleanout. MaryEllen has already put a ton of thought into a project before removing anything from the home, like what types of items can be fixed up. or repurposed, donated to a school, community program or a retirement home, or as an absolute last option is landfill. She works so hard to not have landfill be that optionWhen I asked MaryEllen about a message she hopes you'll remember, she said this: "Did you know every item in your home, in your life really…has its own lifetime? Its own beginning, middle, and - thanks to an Eco Organized Approach, end."You can find all things MaryEllen and An Eco-Organized Approach here: https://anecoorganizedapproach.com/She's on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/anecoorganizedapproach/And on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/AnEcoOrganizedApproachSend me a message!Support the showPlease follow Grounded In Maine podcast on Instagram here YouTube channel link is here You can DM me there or email me at amysgardenjam@gmail.com Website for Amy's Garden Jam is https://amysgardenjam.com/ (podcast has its own tab on this site!) Downsizing sounds like a simple way to save money—sell the big house, pocket the cash, live leaner. But real life isn't that tidy. In this week's episode, Pete, Damian, and Kristen unpack the hidden math, emotional pull, and lifestyle trade-offs behind the “should we move?” question. From rising taxes and leaky roofs to property tax freezes and priceless neighborhood ties, we dig into when staying put might secretly be the better deal—and when it's time to pack the boxes. Plus, we explore creative options for making your home (or your housing budget) work harder without automatically going smaller. Whether you're a retiree with an empty nest or just wondering if your house fits your future, this conversation will help you decide what's truly right for your wallet and your well-being.
In this educational session, Adam from National Comfort Institute (NCI) delivers a comprehensive deep dive into Fan Law 2 and its practical applications for residential HVAC systems at the 6th Annual HVACR Training Symposium. Adam begins by establishing the fundamental concepts of CFM (cubic feet per minute) and static pressure, explaining how these measurements relate to system performance. He shares a humbling personal story about learning to measure gas pressure from a homeowner, emphasizing that even experienced technicians can benefit from understanding basic measurement principles. The presentation focuses heavily on Fan Law 2, which allows technicians to predict how changes in airflow will affect static pressure in a non-proportional relationship - a critical concept for equipment sizing and replacement decisions. The core of the presentation revolves around practical applications of Fan Law 2 in real-world scenarios. Adam demonstrates how to calculate pressure drops across filters, evaporator coils, and entire duct systems when airflow changes occur. He emphasizes that static pressure increases exponentially when airflow increases, which explains why oversized systems often perform poorly. Through detailed examples using actual field measurements, he shows how a 16% increase in airflow can result in a 33% increase in static pressure, highlighting the importance of proper system sizing. Perhaps most importantly, Adam presents a systematic approach to equipment selection that goes beyond simply matching tonnage. He demonstrates how contractors can "back into" total external static pressure calculations by carefully selecting low-pressure-drop components like evaporator coils and filters. This methodology allows technicians to predict system performance before installation, preventing the common scenario where new equipment sounds "like a rocket ship" due to excessive static pressure. The presentation concludes with a compelling comparison showing how proper component selection can reduce system static pressure from over 1.0 inches to 0.64 inches while maintaining the same capacity and airflow. Topics Covered Static Pressure Fundamentals Definition and measurement using manometers Inches of water column explained Relationship between static pressure and system performance Fan Law 2 Mathematics Breaking down the intimidating formula into simple terms Step-by-step calculation examples Common mistakes when squaring numbers in calculations Practical Applications Filter pressure drop calculations at different airflows Evaporator coil pressure drop analysis Total External Static Pressure (TESP) predictions Duct system pressure calculations Equipment Selection Strategy How to select evaporator coils based on pressure drop ratings Filter sizing for optimal pressure drop Using manufacturer data sheets effectively AHRI matchup considerations beyond just capacity Real-World Problem Solving Preventing "rocket ship" installations Retrofitting existing systems with proper calculations Downsizing benefits for static pressure reduction System commissioning and performance verification Professional Development Moving beyond equipment replacement guesswork Using measurement tools like True Flow Grid Understanding manufacturer specifications Elevating installation quality through proper system design Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast?
