In this episode, prevention specialist and podcast host Nichole Dawsey joins Dave to discuss the importance of building a culture of prevention. They cover topics such as the impact of trauma on substance use, the role of peer support in prevention, and the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing substance use disorder. They also discuss the power of small moments in shaping positive team culture and the magic of the Teen Institute, a transformative leadership opportunity for high school students. A few key points to remember: Prevention is a community effort that requires the involvement of various stakeholders such as parents, educators, healthcare professionals, law enforcement, and community leaders. By working together, they can address substance use disorders comprehensively and create a culture that fosters prevention and wellness. Prevention leaders must recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to substance use disorder prevention. They need to use multiple tools and strategies to address substance use disorder from different angles, including universal prevention, respite, peers, harm reduction, and recovery support. It is possible to create transformative experiences that empower youth to be prevention leaders. Programs such as Teen Institute provide youth with the knowledge, skills, and peer support they need to create change in their communities. These experiences can help build a culture of prevention and make a lasting impact on individuals and communities. In Fall of 2022 I decided to start my own production company (a long time coming) and create a recurring standup comedy show/energy circle event (also a long time coming) that combines self-care with laughter as a form of healing. Her debut album, Belle of the Ball, rose to #1 on the ITunes Comedy Charts. She has been featured on Amazon Prime and Comedy Central, and currently has a network pilot in development. She co-hosts the podcast Cheers for Queers with Sarah Garner, where they interview amazing queer performers and talk about being little weirdos. What happened to my passion for Jesus? Why do I not feel enthusiastic about my faith anymore? How do I rediscover it? The world is full of things vying for our passion. Yet, the earth is temporary. How tragic would it be if we spent all the time we have on this earth pursuing a passion for something that matters not in light of eternity. In this episode Jacob Kersey talks to Jeff Dawsey and Tim Smith about the fight against indifference and the fight for passion. Not passion for work, not passion for food, not passion for a boyfriend/girlfriend, or spouse. I want to talk about passion for your faith, for Jesus. Our battleplan to regain or discover our passion for Jesus:1. Reading the Word. Faith comes by hearing and that's not just at conversion. It is an everyday thing“Consequently faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the preached word of Christ.” -Romans 10:17 NET2. Pray and examine yourself. Have others examine you.“Examine yourselves to see if your faith is genuine. Test yourselves. Surely you know that Jesus Christ is among you; if not, you have failed the test of genuine faith.” -2 Corinthians 13:5 NLT3. Walk with others who desire a closer relationship with Jesus.“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” -Acts 2:46-47 ESVJeff Dawsey is the Student and Collge Pastor at Compassion Christian Church Downtown in Savannah, Georgia. Things seems super chill around education these days. Wait—do they? Strange Country co-hosts Beth and Kelly talk about the current state legislation being passed to ban the instruction of Critical Race Theory in K-12 schools, something that isn't happening. So since it's not happening, what is happening instead is banning the instruction of anything associated with race or racism. As the Brooklyn 99 folks like to say, cool cool cool cool cool. Welcome to OTTplay Lost and Found , one podcast that gives you all the info on lesser-known but critically acclaimed films. I'm your host Nikhil.Today's episode is all about The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. This Mike Newell directorial is set in the idyllic English town of Guernsey, in the final years of World War II and the consequent few years. During the German occupation of Guernsey, the inhabitants of the town were stripped off their daily professions and forced to take up livelihoods dictated by the SS army. Hence pig farmers were now forced to cultivate potatoes in their fields. In such dire circumstances, food was scarce and entertainment nil. That is when a few from the town decided to hold a covert dinner of roasted pig (the single animal which was hidden from the watchful eyes of the Germans). Hence Dawsey Adams, Amelia Maugery, Isola Pribbey, Eben Ramsey, along with Elizabeth (whose idea it was to hold the dinner) get together and have a wonderful night of laughter and memories. On their way back home, they are intercepted by soldiers, who enquire about their whereabouts. They quickly string up these unlikely words (mostly based on the dishes served during the potluck dinner) and claim they are part of a reading club. They soon get registered and hold forced meetings with a German soldier presiding over them. But soon, they bond on literature, Charles Lamb becoming a favorite. Once the War is over, Dawsey reaches out to the author Juliet Ashton, who writes under the pen-name of Izzy Bickerstaff, as Juliet's book on Lamb's essays was the copy that the group lay their hands on. Juliet, who lost her parents in the war, now disguises as Izzy, a free-spirited rebel least affected by the war. Her books are popular and sell well. Yet, Juliet feels hollow inside. With Dawsey's letter, she sees a new ray of hope and decides to make the journey to Guernsey and discover the goings-on of this unique society. The film unravels the story of two unlikely people falling in love despite their circumstances, all stitched beautifully by their mutual adoration for literature. So, if you've ever been moved by a lilting song, an evocative prose or a compelling poem, this film is the perfect fit for you. If you haven't watched this yet then do so, it's streaming exclusively on Netflix.Well that's the OTTplay Lost and Found episode for today , I shall be back soon with a new podcast until then it's your host Nikhil signing out.Aaj kya dekhoge OTTplay se poocho

Native Detroiter Darrell Dawsey is a writer and journalist who shares how the State of Michigan gamed the system and lied to Flint residents about their water. Darrell, formerly with the ACLU of Michigan who broke the story concerning Flint's struggle for clean and affordable water, describes how the state moved Flint from the Detroit system and the multiple ways the federal government failed Flint when it was aware of clear and consistent contamination of this city's water. He also talks about how he supported Flint residents in his capacity at the ACLU and his respect for Flint residents who forged an interracial cross-class social movement that brought national attention to their water quality issues, compelled the state to address these concerns, and continues to contend with this struggle until the problems created by the water source switch are resolved.

Book Vs Movie The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (Replay) The Story Behind the 2008 Novel & the 2018 Movie Are you ready for a little 1940s weepy? The Margos sure are as they talk about the novel The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society that was started by Mary Ann Shaffer who brought on her niece Annie Barrows to help her finish when she became ill. Shaffer spent some time fogged in at the airport on the island of Guernsey which is located by the English Channel. After checking their local bookstore she found out the island was occupied by the Germans in World War 2 and she became obsessed with the idea of placing a historical fiction story based there. The novel is told in an epistolary format and features an array of intriguing characters who come together under terrible circumstances and create their own magical world. Taking place in 1946, London-based writer Juliet Ashton is stymied on what to write after her last book was a disappointment in sales. After starting a correspondence with a group of book club members based in Guernsey she impulsively decides to visit the island and her life is upended by the power of love. The film is from director Mike Newell and at the time of this recording, is streaming on Netflix. So between the novel and the movie--which did we like better? Click the link at the bottom to find out. In this ep the Margos discuss: The backstory of how Mary Ann Shaffer and her niece Annie Barrows collaborated to bring the novel to life. Michael Flynn actively promoted a private-sector scheme to build dozens of nuclear reactors across the Middle East known informally in the transition as the “Marshall Plan.” But he did not publicly disclose that backers of the plan had paid him at least $25,000. We spoke with Dawsey about his scoop and about the current state of the Trump White House.
