The Point dove into one of the busiest stretches of Pirates news we've seen in years, and the panel did not hold back. Jim welcomed Josh Booth, Jason Mackey, Tyler, and Neil to break down the blockbuster trade that sent Johan Oviedo to Boston in exchange for “The Password” himself, Jhostynxon Garcia. The crew debated whether Garcia can truly solve Pittsburgh's left-field problem, how his power and defensive versatility fit long-term, and whether his swing-and-miss profile should worry fans. From there, the conversation shifted to the upcoming Winter Meetings, where each panelist picked their No. 1 target—ranging from Kyle Schwarber to Brandon Lowe to Eugenio Suárez to Steven Kwan—and explained why that move could reshape the 2026 roster. The Pirates' 2025 season officially closed with a 4–1 loss to the Atlanta Braves, finishing the year at 71–91. In this final NS9 Postgame Show powered by Primanti Bros, Anthony DiNardo and Jim Rosati break down the game and reflect on a long, frustrating season. They highlight Johan Oviedo's outing—five innings, three hits, three walks, three strikeouts, and two earned runs, including a first-inning homer to Ronald Acuña Jr. Despite early command issues, Oviedo settled in and capped a solid late-season stretch with a 3.57 ERA over nine starts. The guys discuss his improved fastball metrics, steady arsenal, and why he's earned a rotation spot heading into 2026. Offensively, the Pirates again struggled. Even with early chances against retiring Braves starter Charlie Morton and a lone run from back-to-back doubles by Bryan Reynolds and Joey Bart, the bats couldn't deliver. Anthony and Jim also reminisce about Morton's career, his impact on Pittsburgh's playoff teams, and his memorable final matchup with Andrew McCutchen. It's a fitting microcosm of the year: solid starting pitching, quiet offense. Watch as the crew recaps the finale and shares hopes for needed offseason changes and a brighter 2026.

On Off The Bench and The Stone Shields Show today we discuss the Reds crushing loss to the Pirates last night, Paul Skenes vs. Hunter Greene tonight, the latest Bengals news and more! Off The Bench is back weekdays from 10a to 11a followed by The Stone Shields Show from 11a to noon! In a gut-wrenching setback for Cincinnati's playoff dreams, the Reds fell 4-2 to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night at Great American Ball Park, snapping their five-game winning streak and dropping them a full game behind the New York Mets for the NL's final wild-card spot. The loss couldn't have come at a worse time, with only a handful of games left in the regular season and the Reds clinging to faint postseason hopes. The game unraveled early for Reds starter Brady Singer, who imploded in the second inning, surrendering four runs on five hits—including a two-run homer from Pirates shortstop Oneil Cruz—that chased him after just 1.1 innings. Singer's command faltered, ballooning his season ERA to 3.95 and leaving Cincinnati in an early hole. Pittsburgh's Johan Oviedo, making his eighth start, steadied the ship for the visitors, allowing just two runs over five innings despite a shaky Reds lineup. Cincinnati clawed back briefly when sparkplug shortstop Elly De La Cruz crushed a 415-foot two-run homer in the bottom of the second, his second blast in as many games after ending a 43-game drought. But the Reds' offense sputtered thereafter, stranding runners in key spots, including a bases-loaded threat in the sixth snuffed out by rookie reliever Hunter Barco's debut gem. The bullpen held firm, but it wasn't enough against a Pirates squad playing spoiler. Tonight's game (6:40 p.m. ET) pits two of baseball's brightest young arms in a must-win for Cincinnati: Reds ace Hunter Greene (7-4, 2.74 ERA) versus Pirates phenom Paul Skenes (10-10, 2.03 ERA). Greene, the flamethrowing righty, has been lights-out lately, fanning 10+ in four of his last five starts, but faces a tall order against Skenes—the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young frontrunner—who's chasing a sub-2.00 ERA in his final outing. Expect triple-digit heat, high drama, and a low-scoring affair that could swing the wild-card fate. Amid the baseball buzz, Cincinnati sports mourns the tragic loss of Bengals legend Rudi Johnson, who died by suicide at 45 on Tuesday, per police reports. The fourth-round pick (2001) became a Pro Bowl powerhouse, holding the franchise single-season rushing record (1,458 yards in 2005) and ranking fourth all-time with 5,742 yards. Teammates like Carson Palmer hailed his "joyful presence," while Chad Johnson tweeted a heartfelt tribute. Bengals president Mike Brown called him a "dear friend" and "excellent running back." Johnson's foundation aided local causes, leaving a legacy beyond the field. RIP, Rudy—your spirit endures. Music from #InAudio: https://inaudio.org/ Track Name Holy (Trap). The bullpen held it down afterward. We noted managing workloads down the stretch—as we saw Mike Burrows pitch 2 in relief today, while Braxton Ashcraft remains in the rotation and Bubba Chandler could be an option. While the organization boasts notable arm talent, many pitchers also have an unfavorable injury history. With workload restrictions expected to be a big part of the equation, Hiles looks to see who can exactly be expected to take on a true season's worth of innings in 2026. Noah gives his thoughts on options including Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller, Mike Burrows, Bubba Chandler, Thomas Harrington, Hunter Barco, Carmen Mlodzinski, Braxton Ashcraft, Jared Jones and Johan Oviedo.
Pirates insiders Noah Hiles and Colin Beazley discuss the state of the club's starting pitching staff and bullpen after their series loss to the San Francisco Giants at PNC Park. With the rotation showing signs of fatigue after short starts by Johan Oviedo, Mike Burrows and Andrew Heaney, plus a few key arms like Dennis Santana and Isaac Mattson taking on new roles in the bullpen, Noah and Colin debate if adding more young arms into the mix could help solve both problems. What about highly touted prospects in Triple-A like Bubba Chandler or Hunter Barco? What should the rest of the season look like for young arms like Carmen Mlodzinski, Braxton Ashcraft and Kyle Nicolas? What about veterans like Dauri Moreta and Ryan Borucki? Noah and Colin answer those questions and more.
