*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. If you want an ad-free experience, you can subscribe below underneath the show description.West Virginia is the first state to begin the process of banning a wide range of food dyes and other synthetic food preservatives, something strictly contrasted by their leading the nation in obesity and being overweight, not to mention the state having the highest of the former for children, the highest rate of high cholesterol and type 2 diabetes, and being a leader in obesity-related death, and hypertension. But you have to start somewhere. Other states are following, from Oklahoma to New York. This comes immediately after a meeting between RFK Jr and the CEOs of PepsiCo North America, Kraft Heinz, General Mills, Tyson Foods, W.K. Kellogg and J.M. Smucker. Some proposed laws would also require food companies to disclose “secret” food ingredients to the public that have been allowed into the marketplace under a federal standard known as “generally recognized as safe”, or GRAS, a term that acts like a rubber stamp for fraud. The National Confectioners Association (NCA) said that the measures “will make food significantly more expensive for, and significantly less accessible to, people in the states that pass them.” The association also said the federal government – in the form of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – should be the final arbiter for food additives. But this is not food, and the FDA cannot be the final arbiter of food additives when it is essentially run by the industry it is supposed to regulate. Men's Health magazine goes on to parrot the same NCA talking points: “Processed foods are safe, inexpensive, and capable of delivering nutrition—especially to people of lower-income and/or living in food deserts, where fresh food is hard to find. In fact, healthy food prices are increasing at a rate almost double that of unhealthy foods.”This argument is similar to the one used by biotech, claiming for decades that their products and patents would lower the cost of food. They haven't. In a write up for the same Men's Health magazine, Abby Langer, R.D., MH nutrition advisor, repeats another talking point: “Banning dyes stirs up unnecessary anxiety around the food system, which is the safest it has ever been.” When a recent laboratory report was published on Girl Scout cookies, demonstrating the high levels of heavy metals and chemicals, the FDA said naturally-occurring heavy metals like arsenic, cadmium, chromium, lead, and mercury are just a “reality about our food supply.” Abby then goes on to parrot the NCA by opposing bans over the issue of cost: the banning of these dyes may drive up food prices as companies scramble to find alternatives, furthering the issue of food security, Langer says. "Nobody thinks that Fruity Pebbles and candy are health foods; however, when ultra-processed foods are the cheapest and most accessible option, that's where the problem lies," Langer says. "I consider the entire food dye conversation a distraction from what we really should be focusing on: access to healthy foods, access to healthcare, nutrition education in schools, grocery prices, and food deserts."But food deserts only affect 13% of the population, while the poorest residents tend to live in cities. Those in the so-called deserts usually have the means to travel the 1-20 mile which constitutes a desert, or they have the ability to order food. This same argument is being use Axios to defend SNAP allowing for the purchase of junk: “There are a number of risks with the proposal to cut foods from SNAP, including logistical and cost concerns, access in food deserts, equity issues and questions over how to measure success and behavioral changes among consumers.”These are the same arguments that have been used by industry and their PR representatives for decades, like when, 12 years ago, so called journalists claimed McDonald's was the “cheapest and most nutritious food in human history.”Food industry advocates have protested efforts to ban the additives, citing what they say is a lack of proof that the chemicals are harmful to people, and arguing such laws will raise food prices. Thus the argument has shifted from defending this trash as “food” to justifying its as “junk.”In other news, the Girl Scouts are being sued for their garbage cookies.-FREE ARCHIVE (w. ads)SUBSCRIPTION ARCHIVEX / TWITTER FACEBOOKWEBSITECashApp: $rdgable EMAIL: rdgable@yahoo.com / TSTRadio@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/tst-radio--5328407/support.

Pastor Smucker teaches today about the local church.
The owner of a farm stand in Lancaster County has spent thousands of dollars and lost hours and hours of production due to man-made legislation and regulation (all instituted for the "common good"). A dutiful zoning officer appears to have been monitoring Jesse Smucker's operation for years, and finally informed him that his Smucker's Farm Market was in violation of a local ordinance that limits the sales area to 500 square feet. Though Smucker did not break God's Law or harm his neighbor, he is now enmeshed in statist bureaucracy and costly legal meetings. On this episode of The Lancaster Patriot Podcast, Chris Hume shares this story and discusses the maddening fruit of natural law legislation.

In this teaching, we explore the profound gift of worship and its transformative power in our lives. We're reminded that God is actively seeking true worshipers who will worship Him in spirit and truth. The scripture from John 4:23 emphasizes this divine pursuit, challenging us to consider how we can become the kind of worshipers God desires. As we delve into the essence of worship, we discover that it's not just about tradition or preference, but about our response to God's greatness. We learn that worship isn't merely a Sunday activity, but a lifestyle that shapes our identity and deepens our relationship with God. Through worship, we not only discover more about who God is, but also uncover our true selves as beings created for His glory. Today's teaching delves into Jesus' revolutionary approach to politics, highlighting his ambiguous yet profound response when questioned about his allegiance. We learn that while Jesus acknowledged the necessity of engaging with earthly authorities, he emphasized that our ultimate devotion belongs to God alone. The teaching encourages us to seek a balance between participating in the political process and recognizing that true transformation comes from within, through a heart changed by Christ. Early in his career, Dan O'Leary realized that “If you don't find some different paths, you're not going to stand out at all.” Even though he has worked at a series of CPG and food companies, he has made a point of raising his hand for the complicated and unpopular opportunities. These choices gave him the opportunity to stretch, feel uncomfortable, and thus differentiate himself. A role at Mizkan, followed by taking a role with Hostess gave Dan the opportunity to lean into his passion for building. Whether it be building brands, building teams, or building strategy, Dan considers himself a builder first. One key to building brands is increasing household penetration and Dan learned to have a maniacal focus on customer acquisition during his time at Digitas. He shares a story about taking a whole new approach to increase usage for Philadelphia Cream Cheese. He took the lead from the consumer and embraced learnings about how they were using the product to create a new marketing strategy. As a leader, Dan prioritizes communication. Even when he thinks he's communicating too much, he has often realized he could do a little more. Now at J.M. Smucker, Dan sends a weekly email to keep the team informed about progress, united around goals, and clear about their next steps and objectives. Mentorship both from his leaders and from his team has been key to helping Dan grow as a leader. One mentor, Jill Baskin, former CMO of Hershey's, helped him realize that there are “a lot of times when good can be good enough and a lot of times when great is not good enough and you have to strive for excellent.” Another mentor was someone who reports to Dan and whose example of balancing parenthood and career helped Dan think about how to make the right trade-offs when he became a father.Key Takeaways:Take opportunities to differentiate yourself and your resumeListen to and learn from your consumer about how they use your productModel balance to help your team make the right trade offs for themselves Hosted on Acast. We are reminded that as followers of Christ, our ultimate goal should be to love like Jesus, even amidst the divisiveness and challenges of an election year. While we may hold different political views, our shared faith in Christ should unite us and shape our interactions with others. By recognizing that both anger and fear are often used as political tools, we can instead choose to anchor ourselves in the confidence and peace that comes from trusting in God's sovereignty. We are encouraged to stay aware of how our politics are shaping us spiritually and actively seek to be formed in the image of Christ, using our political involvement as a means to demonstrate His love to the world. "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline." 2 Timothy 1:7 Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center. At just 16, Tucker Marshall unsuccessfully sought a humble beginning at The J. M. Smucker Company—not in the back office but on its lush grounds, hoping to cut grass. Such an early rejection—due to a company policy favoring employees' families first—did little to deter him. Instead, it left with him an indelible admiration for the company's culture and its loyalty to its extended family. Marshall's career trajectory—although certainly not linear—has been a master class in preparation and perseverance. Redirecting from his initial pursuit of a career in medicine after having fallen in love with economics, he embarked on a formidable journey down the corridors of finance. Starting in Chicago, he cut his teeth on investment banking and credit analysis at ABN AMRO, now part of Bank of America. This formative period honed his financial acumen, which led him to delve deeper into the intricacies of corporate finance and investment. Transitioning into private equity further expanded his horizons, immersing him in the operational dynamics of various industries from steel to automotive. Each role was a building block, enriching his understanding and skill set and preparing him for the strategic financial leadership that would define his later career. In 2012, coming full circle, Marshall finally joined Smucker's, a company that had long stood as a beacon in his community. Rising through the ranks, he became CFO in 2020, at a time when strategic financial leadership had become more crucial than ever. Under his stewardship, Smucker's finance function evolved beyond traditional roles, emphasizing strategic partnerships across the company, fostering growth, and enhancing shareholder value—principles far from the mind of a young man in the same place who once dreamed of simple summer days spent mowing luscious lawns.
As we ponder the nature of love, we recognize its transformative power - not just on hallmark occasions, but woven into the fabric of our everyday existence. Reflecting on Jesus' example of sacrificial love, we challenge ourselves to mirror that selflessness in our actions. This message is an invitation to embrace the fullness of love and to understand how deeply you've been loved can profoundly shape how you extend love to others. Join us as we explore these thoughts, leaving you inspired to find serenity in love's embrace and empowerment in its practice. "So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples." Wrapping up our "On the Table" series, we explore the radical teachings of Paul in Romans 12, where we confront the enigma of overcoming malice with kindness; that holding onto unity and Jesus' exemplary life's work becomes ever more apparent. Learn how the simple, yet profound act of kindness can ignite a moral awakening, and how we, as a community, can rise above societal and political divides to reflect the light of justice and reconciliation. Explore the multifaceted nature of love through the lens of the Greek language, where four distinct words paint a complex picture of this fundamental human emotion. We steer the conversation towards understanding how a society's quest for eros, or romantic love, can overshadow the more enduring agape love demonstrated by Jesus. With insights from psychiatrist Miriam Grossman, we acknowledge the often-overlooked emotional repercussions of casual relationships. JM Smucker's CMO joins the Marketer's Brief podcast to discuss how the company has shaken up its older brands, including Jif and Uncrustables.
Sexuality and spirituality intertwine in profound ways, yet the conversation often gets lost in whispers. Our journey isn't just about confronting the missteps of the church or the hypersexualized culture around us; it's about rediscovering the beautiful, God-given longing for intimacy that connects to our innermost selves. we grasp how being fully known and loved is what we're really seeking—beyond physicality to the heart of our relationships. And as we peel back the layers of how pornography distorts this quest, we invite a thoughtful consideration of what self-sacrificial love truly looks like. “Let's us make human beings in our image, to be like us.” Genesis 1:26 Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center. Look in Christian bookstores at books on marriage and parenting – compare that with books on singleness – very few marriage books argue that marriage is a good thing – that's accepted. Instead, they talk about all the problems in marriage and how to deal with them. Christian marriage books tell you how to deal with the difficulty of marriage. Books on singleness take a different approach. They almost imply that singleness is a problem. They tell a person how to make the most of the time until the right person comes along. In other words, they say that the solution to the problem of singleness is marriage. And then – “Good news – once you get married, you're going to have all other kinds of problems and read the marriage books.” The scriptures teach something very different ... The idea that all religions are equally correct is called “religious relativism”. That all positions are equally correct, and therefore, we shouldn't evangelize. If you believe some religions are superior to others, then you have to evangelize. But if you believe that no religions are superior to others then you are evangelizing your religious relativism view. Think of it like this; when you urge me not to urge my religion on anybody else, you're urging your religion on me. You're evangelizing me not to evangelize. You are doing the very thing you forbid. Up until 150 years ago, all religions got together and said, “Look, we may all be wrong, but we can't all be right.” If two people contradict one another we say, “You could be wrong and I could be right, or I could be wrong and you could be right, or we could both be wrong, but we can't both be right.” So the real question is who's right? John 14:6 (NIV) “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center. It's not difficult to get a person interested in the message of the gospel, it is difficult to sustain the interest. Millions of people make decisions for Christ, but there is a dreadful attrition rate. In the words of Eugene Peterson, “Many claim to have been born again, but the evidence of mature Christian discipleship is slim.” In the western church there is a great market for religious experience but there is little enthusiasm for the patient acquisition of Christian character. Little inclination to sign up for a long apprenticeship in what earlier generations of Christians called Sanctification; the process of becoming like Christ. This process involves learning how to implement healthy spiritual habits. But what stands in our way? That's what this teaching will discuss. “So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.” – Romans 5:9-11 Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center. Every relationship forms you. The relationships you say “yes” to, and the relationships you say “no” to will both form you in one way or another. These relationships either wound you on the “operating table” or on the “battle field”. The operating table scenario heals, while the battle field scenario ultimately dominates. We need to want relationships that put us on the “operating table.” Who are you allowing to form you? We often think Jesus was 50% grace, and 50% truth. But, in reality he was 100% of both. Both the attractional and formational aspects of Jesus' ministry worked hand in hand. At Ethos we desire to be the same – creating environments where people can come and see, while also be seen. Where all guests who arrive are received like Christ, and where we can be formed into the vision of Jesus. “And yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, and you are the potter. Close your eyes and imagine this: a world without stuffed crust pizza. We know!—but that was the dismal state of the Italian flatbread scene before 1985, when Anthony Mongiello, aka The Big Cheese, came up with an innovation that loaded even more cheese onto pizza, while saving crusts nationwide from the trashcan. It was a multi-million dollar idea, Mongiello was sure—if only he could figure out how to protect his intellectual property and license it. But can you copyright the recipe for stuffing the crust? Could that puffy, cheese-filled rim be trademarked, or the technique for making it qualify as a trade secret? Can you patent a pizza? And did Pizza Hut, which unveiled their own stuffed crust pie in 1995, steal his idea—or does the concept of a cheesy crust belong to humanity as a whole? This episode, we're diving deep into the weird and wonderful world of food IP, via the legendary legal battles to defend Pepperidge Farm's Goldfish, Smucker's Uncrustables, and that futuristic mall treat of the 90s, Dippin' Dots ice cream. Listen in now for the true story of stuffed crust pizza—a story in which creativity, commerce, and lots and lots of cheese collide. Learn more about your ad choices. Generations after Israel had been freed from Egyptian slavery, they were hauled off into exile in Babylon, a secular country. In the book of Jeremiah, we see that Gods call to Israel was to retain their foundational identity as Gods people even though they were resident aliens in a foreign land. Despite their status as exiles .. God tells them to stay put. Put down roots, build houses, plant gardens … We too are spiritual exiles and resident aliens. We live here but we don't really belong here. So how do we live faithfully in the space between, not running from the world and not conforming to it but faithfully following Jesus with two feet in both worlds? 1 Peter 2:11 (NLT) - Dear friends, I warn you as “temporary residents and foreigners” to keep away from worldly desires that wage war against your very souls. It is not hard to see why Christians would shy away from sin and judgement in our attempts to engage constructively in the debates and questions of our age. Our culture attacks sin and judgement as hate speech, leaving Christians confused, embarrassed and in denial about foundational biblical truths. We are told that doctrines of sin and judgement are not just misguided but downright dangerous or evil. But we agree with Fleming Rutledge who wrote, “It is only by endeavoring to look sin straight in the face that we are able to understand grace.” Ethos is a life-giving community committed to keeping Jesus at its Center.
