Send us a Text Message. In this interview, Will Wright and Pastor Josh Burtram speak with Mike Ter Maat, the Libertarian Party's 2024 vice-presidential nominee running alongside Chase Oliver. Ter Maat discusses his transition from the Republican Party to the Libertarian Party, citing his disillusionment with both major parties' departures from their core principles. He emphasizes the Libertarian philosophy of minimal government intervention, personal liberty, and fiscal conservatism, arguing that the Libertarian Party aligns more closely with American values than either the Republican or Democratic parties.Ter Maat critiques U.S. foreign policy, particularly the ethical and practical failures of military interventions and foreign aid. He argues that these efforts have not made America safer or advanced its strategic interests. He also discusses the nation's unsustainable fiscal policies, warning of potential financial collapse if current trends continue. When asked about balancing national security with fiscal responsibility, Ter Maat is firm in his stance that the U.S. should not give away any money to other countries, arguing that it does not buy influence or benefit American interests. He also challenges the notion of what constitutes an ally, particularly in the context of U.S.-Israel relations.Learn more about their campaign: https://votechaseoliver.com/Guest Bio:Mike campaigned in 2021-22 as the Libertarian Party candidate in the January special Congressional election in Florida's District 20. He has more than two decades of experience treating urban gun violence victims in Tampa, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, and Chicago, and has served on the trauma faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and at the University of Chicago. Williams graduated from the United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. After six years on active duty, he enrolled at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine and then completed a general surgery residency at Harvard Medical School and a fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at Emory University. After the Dallas shooting, Williams became an international spokesperson for racial justice. In 2017 Mayor Rawlings appointed him chair of the Dallas Citizens Police Review Board. His leadership helped unite the Dallas Police Department, community activists, police associations, and City Council to revamp the role Dallas civilians play in police oversight. In addition to his role as a trauma surgeon, Williams served as a congressional health policy advisor in the US Senate and the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, is a guest commentator on CNN, keynote speaker, opinion writer featured in the Chicago Tribune, Dallas Morning News, and Newsweek, and host of the podcast Race, Violence & Medicine. Williams and his wife of 17 years are raising a strong-willed 12-year-old daughter and two lovable dogs. Join the Conversation! We want to hear from you! Focus on what you can control. You can't control the outcome, but you can control the process. -Kelly Cantley How many women are leaders in commercial construction? The answer is: not enough! Meet Kelly Cantley, Senior Vice President of Bozzuto Construction Company www.bozzuto.com. Born and raised in the town of Bluff City, Tennessee, population 1500 by a trailblazing school teacher and a 36-year Army veteran, Kelly is blazing her own trail in a field where less than 10% of women are finding their footing. A graduate of the United States Naval Academy, Kelly was nominated by former Vice President & Nobel Peace Prize winner, Al Gore, Kelly got her Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautical Engineering at the Academy and served as an Officer in the Civil Engineer Corps. Her transition from the military to construction was smoother than you might think, aided by Kelly's Masters in Business Administration from Johns Hopkins University and a belief in the theory that success in these fields is rooted in “process and procedure.” Kelly's big job at Bozzuto carries big weight. She's responsible for new business, acquisition, planning, and implementation of new work. A family-owned business, founded in 1988, Bozzuto maintains a rich culture, steeped in the firm belief that “everyone deserves safe shelter and sanctuary.” Kelly puts these beliefs into practice as an advocate for philanthropic organizations like Urban Land Institute, Women's Housing Coalition, ACE Mentoring Program and Jubilee Housing. Her best advice for women on the rise in construction? “Find your voice and speak up, especially in difficult situations. Take your blinders off and don't be afraid to try new things.” For an inspiring look into the life of a trailblazer, just hit that download button. #womeninconstruction #USNavalAcademy #construction #trailblazer
Engineering Success interviews Lucy Davies an Integration Engineer at BAE Systems. Lucy studied for an MEng in Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough University, completing a summer and year internship during her course before joining the BAE Systems graduate scheme in September 2021. During her graduate scheme she worked at the forefront of aerospace technology and has contributed directly to the next generation of military aircraft design through the Tempest programme. Lucy worked as a Safety Integration Engineer which meant that she worked on every element of the platform and completed analysis that led to physical design changes on the aircraft. After recently finishing on the graduate scheme Lucy has taken a new role on BAE System's new Electric Products programme, working on cutting edge sustainable aircraft design. Lucy recently passed her IEng and is now an Incorporated Engineer with the Royal Aeronautical Society. During university Lucy noticed the disparity between the number of male and females studying engineering and started devoting time to showcasing the STEM field to younger people. Through her tenure as the Programme President she was able to establish the courses first EDI committee and has since carried on this work, being an active STEM ambassador and now sitting on the WISE Young Professionals' Board as the Engagement Lead.

#Ep.046 Nepal's current state of infrastructure financing plays a critical role in shaping the country's development and prosperity. Adequate infrastructure is crucial for Nepal's economic growth, job creation, and overall socio-economic advancement. However, Nepal faces various challenges in securing sustainable infrastructure financing for long-term development. Limited fiscal resources, difficulty accessing affordable financing, bureaucratic hurdles, and governance issues hinder the financing process. Furthermore, political instability, weak institutional frameworks, and corruption pose additional obstacles to attracting essential foreign investment. Addressing these challenges requires comprehensive efforts to streamline bureaucratic processes, enhance governance practices, establish specialized financing mechanisms, and create a favorable investment climate. In today's episode of PODS by PEI, we have PEI colleague Saurab Lama's conversation with Radhesh Pant. Building on Radhesh's past experiences at the helm of the Investment Board of Nepal, Saurab and Radhesh explore the intricacies of project planning, financing, and implementation of various Nepali projects, and discuss the core challenges Nepal faces to ensure sustainable and effective infrastructural development. They further discuss the way forward for Nepal to improve its institutional organization, resource mobilization, and governance in the midst of the climate debate and the ongoing geopolitical contestations within the South Asia region. Radhesh is the Senior Managing Partner at VRock and Company and also serves as chairman in various boards for Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bio resources (ANSAB), Smile Nepal, and is a founding director for South Asia Institute of Management (SAIM). He also served as the Chief Executive of the Investment Board Nepal (IBN). He holds an MBA from University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Bachelor of Technology in Aeronautical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), India. He teaches us what sustainability in space means and how that can be valuable in other industries, while also building a company culture of excellence, and how data can better inform your strategy.3 Key TakeawaysSustainability and collaboration among competing entities are key factors in the space industry, because of the inherent collaboration needed for projects (and problems faced) of this magnitude. You don't need to be a visionary with tons of ideas to be a successful founder. But you do need to develop a long view in your strategy, and build systems so you can test ideas as they come.Your Key Progress Indicators (KPIs) can and should shift over time as your business evolves and you need to track different areas of growth.ResourcesSergio@scout.space Sergio's LinkedInSCOUT's LinkedIn Business PageWebsiteThe Pitch podcastAgainst the Day by Thomas PynchonGravity's Rainbow by Thomas PynchonAbout Sergio Gallucci is the co-founder and CTO of SCOUT, a company innovating space safety with distributed space-based sensing. Can An Old Technology Make Industrial Drones Safer and More Effective? Zach Adams is Co-Founder and Chief Engineer for Pitch Aeronautics, manufacturer of a unique drone for up-close, touch-based, and robotic tasks. Among the most dangerous jobs in the United States is climbing infrastructure to perform inspections and maintenance as well as performing power line maintenance. While today's drones are good at taking video, they are not well suited to get close or actually interact with the surface of an object. Consequently, technicians are sent up on ropes, ladders, scaffolding, cranes, and sometimes even hanging from helicopters to perform this work. Pitch Aeronautics' Astria Drone is specifically optimized for touch based tasks. It has a unique configuration that can hold a 10 pound payload on a long horizontal arm to keep it away from the rotors and allow it to interact with a building, bridge, tower, wind turbine and powerline. It's flown to the area using a first-person-view camera and goggles. Astria then overlays key flight and job information on the goggles so the operator can conduct the mission. . Astria positions the payload near the target by using a cyclorotor for lateral control. Cyclorotors are unique propellers that can near instantaneously push the drone forward, backward, left, or right. This allows Astria to compensate for wind gusts and fly more precisely. It can create and change thrust 5-10x faster than traditional drones. Cyclorotors have been used on tugboats and ferries for nearly a century for the same reason. Zach is recognized as a leading authority on cyclorotor technology. He is the named inventor on multiple cyclorotor patents and has published extensively on the topic. He holds a BS in Aeronautical Engineering from the U.S. Air Force Academy and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue. In this episode of the Drone Radio Show, Zach talks about Pitch Aeronautics, its innovative Astria drone and how the company's patented cyclorotor technology is making dangerous jobs safer.
