Workshop Discipleship: The Ecosystem for Evangelism Evangelism has for too long been seen as the precursor to discipleship. This workshop flips that idea on its head to reveal that a discipleship lifestyle actually creates a kind of ecosystem where evangelism can flourish. ABOUT DYLAN At just 15, Dylan Rhys is already making waves as a standout in the next generation of Texas musicians. Embracing his musical passion from an early age, Dylan picked up guitar at nine, seamlessly integrating vocals shortly thereafter. It was during the early days of COVID-19 quarantine that he created his first stage by streaming his “Corona Concert Series: Live from the Driveway” for family and friends. In the summer of 2022, Dylan entered a months-long open mic competition hosted by Dosey Doe in The Woodlands, Texas, winning first place out of over 80 contestants spanning a wide range of ages and genres. Opportunities to perform at local venues quickly followed, and he can now be found sharing his original music and a deep list of country covers throughout Central and Southeast Texas. Influenced by the likes of Shane Smith and the Saints, Flatland Cavalry and Turnpike Troubadours, and developing a sound similar to Dylan Gossett, Sam Barber and Wyatt Flores, Dylan strives to portray authenticity in his lyrics and sound. His youthful approach to songwriting and confident, charismatic stage presence have provided him the opportunity to open for national touring artists Jon Stork, Jesse Daniel, Matt Castillo, and Bailey Rae, and to share the stage in renowned venues such as Dosey Doe – The Big Barn and The Kenney Store. Currently in his freshman year, Dylan balances his music pursuits with a full course load of classes, is a lefty pitcher on the baseball team, and plays the double bass in his school's orchestra. In his free time, he enjoys being a kid, soaking up life experiences to turn into future songs. Look out for his first single debuting soon! GDP Script/ Top Stories for Nov 17th Publish Date: Nov 16th HENSSLER 15 From the Henssler Financial Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Friday, November 17th and Happy Birthday to Tom Seaver I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Kia Mall of Georgia. Health Department Issues Warning of Possible Hepatitis Exposure at Lawrenceville Restaurant Respiratory virus outlook in Georgia encouraging Bulls, Bands and Barrels — a fusion of rodeo and country music — coming to Gwinnett's Gas South Arena All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: MOG – PEGGY SLAPPY STORY 1: Health Department Issues Warning of Possible Hepatitis Exposure at Lawrenceville Restaurant The Gwinnett County health department issued a warning about potential hepatitis A exposure at Lolita's Bar and Grill in Lawrenceville. A server at the restaurant was diagnosed with hepatitis A, and customers who ate there from Oct. 24 to Nov. 7 are advised to contact healthcare providers or the Gwinnett County Health Department for hepatitis A vaccine recommendations. The vaccine is available at the health department with no out-of-pocket cost. Hepatitis A is a contagious viral infection with symptoms like nausea, tiredness, stomach pain, and jaundice. The virus spreads through contaminated objects, food, or drinks, often due to inadequate handwashing. STORY 2: Respiratory virus outlook in Georgia encouraging State Epidemiologist Dr. Cherie Drenzek reported declining COVID-19 cases as Georgia enters the respiratory virus season, with RSV and flu expected to return to pre-pandemic levels. While COVID-19, RSV, and flu trends show improvement, Drenzek emphasized the combined threat, urging caution. Although deaths and hospitalizations from COVID are at their lowest since the pandemic's start, circulating variants pose a wildcard. While positive RSV tests dropped from 21% to 10%, hospitalizations for infants and young children are a concern. Flu cases are rising but represent only 4% of outpatient doctor visits, mainly affecting children aged 0-4. STORY 3: Bulls, Bands and Barrels — a fusion of rodeo and country music — coming to Gwinnett's Gas South Arena Gwinnett's Gas South Arena will host Bulls, Bands, and Barrels (BBB), a unique event merging rodeo, music, and entertainment, on January 27, marking the start of BBB's inaugural national tour. The 21-city tour features elite bull riders, cowgirls navigating barrels, and freestyle bullfighting. The show also includes performances by country music artists such as Warren Zeiders, Sam Barber, and Alexandra Kay. BBB President Hunter Price sees the tour as a game-changer, expanding the venture to a national scale with Peachtree Entertainment and Premier Productions. Tickets for the Gas South Arena show go on sale to the public on Friday at 10 a.m. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back Break 2: GLOW LIGHT SHOW– TOM WAGES – DTL STORY 4: Norcross-based Willis Mechanical honored with HIRE Vets Medallion Award Norcross-based Willis Mechanical Inc. received the HIRE Vets Medallion Award from the U.S. Department of Labor in the Platinum Level division for its commitment to recruiting, employing, and retaining military veterans. This marks the fourth time the HVAC and refrigeration services company has received the award. With about 50 employees, a quarter to a third of whom are veterans, Willis Mechanical emphasizes supporting veterans in their transition to civilian work. The HIRE Vets Medallion Award recognizes companies that demonstrate dedication to hiring and retaining veterans, acknowledging the valuable contributions veterans make in the workplace. The award highlights Willis Mechanical's ongoing commitment to hiring veterans. STORY 5: LAKO: Understanding the impact of coupon rates and yield to maturity Many investors are concerned about low bond yields, holding bonds at 3.25% while new bonds yield around 4.60%. The confusion often arises between a bond's coupon rate and yield to maturity. The coupon rate is fixed, representing annual interest payments, while yield to maturity varies based on factors like time and bond price. Investors should consider yield to maturity when buying bonds at a price not equal to par value. Selling existing bonds to chase higher yields may lead to losses due to declining prices. The focus should be on protecting principal and fulfilling spending needs upon maturity, considering factors like current yields and maturity dates. We'll be back in a moment Break 3: JACKSON EMC - ESOG - INGLES 4 STORY 6: Police Upgrade Charges Against Suspect in Lawrenceville Double Shooting Terrance Alonzo Washington, accused of shooting his ex-girlfriend and her son in a domestic incident, is now facing murder charges as the son, Daqwayvious Kleckley, succumbed to his injuries. The shooting occurred in unincorporated Lawrenceville on Nov. 7. Washington initially faced charges like aggravated assault and firearm possession. With Daqwayvious Kleckley's death, Washington is additionally charged with felony murder and malice murder. The police responded to a domestic dispute report, discovering the victims in the driveway, and Washington was later apprehended in Warner Robins. The mother, Deyawnday Kleckley, is still undergoing treatment for her wounds. STORY 7: Appellate court to hear arguments over Trump's rhetoric in federal trial on 2020 election Former President Donald Trump's appeal to lift a partial gag order in the criminal case accusing him of crimes related to overturning the 2020 election will be heard in a Washington, D.C., appeals court. Trump, seeking to speak freely about the case during his reelection bid, faces restrictions after making statements about witnesses and prosecutors that could incite violence. The appeal challenges the order by District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan, arguing it infringes on Trump's free speech rights. Legal experts note the case's unique challenges due to Trump's significant social media presence and political influence. The appeal hearing will address the core issues of free speech and the court's duty to control proceedings. We'll have final thoughts after this. The Church of the Nazarene believes that there is a calling upon every Christian to a deeper and maturing relationship with God. That calling, empowered by grace, bonds the believer in heart, mind, and mission with God. And this loving work of God, joined in obedience, forms each Christian into a growing likeness of Christ. This is the work of God's sanctifying grace. So, how does God do this gracious work in the life of a fully consecrated believer? How does a Christian experience God's sanctifying grace? And how does an entirely sanctified believer engage others along their own journey of grace? Join Frank Moore, Scott Rainey, and Sam Barber as they discuss God's sanctifying grace. Sam is entering his 10th season as the head coach of the Air Force wrestling program. And this past year was one of the best in program history. 5 Falcons qualified for the 2023 NCAA tournament and they finished tied for 18th as a team. As great as last year was, Coach Barber and company are looking for even better results this upcoming season. Sam wrestled at Upper Iowa (who was DIII at the time) and for Coach Mike McCready and ended up being a 2x national qualifier. I'll tell you this right now: Do not be surprised if Air Force has an even better year in 2023-2024. Because Coach Barber and company has that team believing they can climb to new heights. Welcome to episode ninety of New Creation Conversations. My conversation today is with a great friend and colleague in pastoral ministry, Dr. Sam Barber. Sam is currently serving as the District Superintendent of the South-Central Ohio District for the Church of the Nazarene. Sam is a graduate of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, he has a master's degree in Christian Ministry and Church Leadership from Malone University, another master's in theology from Duke Divinity School, and he earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary. He has also been the lead pastor at churches in Troy and Columbus, Ohio as well as at the Kansas City Central Church. He and his wife Jill have become dear friends of Debbie and me over the last several years, and I deeply respect Sam's heart, mind, and leadership ability. Our conversation centers around his recently released book, A People of Grace: Becoming Disciples Together (published by The Foundry Press). In the book, Sam explores the exciting adventure of discipleship – following Jesus. However, he argues that discipleship is never something we do alone, it takes a team effort to help each other grow in holiness and reach out to others. In the book, Sam invites readers to participate together in an innovative approach to discipleship that has its roots in the ministry of John Wesley. It's a very helpful book and a rich conversation. So, thanks for sitting in on this conversation between two old friends.

Luke 21:1-4 The Widow's Offering [1] Jesus looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the offering box, [2] and he saw a poor widow put in two small copper coins. [3] And he said, “Truly, I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them. [4] For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
Luke 17:20-37 The Coming of the Kingdom [20] Being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, he answered them, “The kingdom of God is not coming in ways that can be observed, [21] nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!' or ‘There!' for behold, the kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” [22] And he said to the disciples, “The days are coming when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it. [23] And they will say to you, ‘Look, there!' or ‘Look, here!' Do not go out or follow them. [24] For as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one side to the other, so will the Son of Man be in his day. [25] But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. [26] Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. [27] They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. [28] Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, [29] but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all—[30] so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. [31] On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. [32] Remember Lot's wife. [33] Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. [34] I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. [35] There will be two women grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.” [37] And they said to him, “Where, Lord?” He said to them, “Where the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.”

At the table: Warren Longmire, Addison Davis, Jason Schneiderman, Kathleen Volk Miller, Samantha Neugebauer, Marion Wrenn, & Joe Zang This episode is brought to you by our sponsor Wilbur Records, who kindly introduced us to the artist is A.M.Mills whose song “Spaghetti with Lorraine” opens our show. How big is an alligator heart, Slushies? Have seen the wingspan of a Sand Hill Crane (a bird once mistaken for the Jersey Devil)? And what happens when you put Mentos in your soda? Life and its peculiarities, its soaring losses and aching beauty, and its utter, utter absurdity come barreling at us in “a flood of images” in Ryan Bollenbach’s poems, 2 of which we consider on today’s episode. Bollenbach has us recalling Willem Defoe at Sgt. Elias in Oliver Stone’s Platoon and envisioning Florida’s “serrated coast.” Cue Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.” Bollenbach’s second poem “My Lover Squawk Squawks and then Explodes” demands we take it on face value; the title is on point. Listen for a fabulous meta-reading and feel the way the poem wants you, too, to be Seagull. We couldn’t resist – a la Dillard’s “Living Like Weasels”-- and spun out into our own squawking flock. Listen in as we welcome longtime member of the PBQ fam Warren Longmire to the podcast. His good work has a wide reach these days, keeping poetry thriving via The Nick Virgilio Writer's House and Blue Stoop. Poetry discussion starts at 3:30 Author Bio Ryan Bollenbach is a writer with an MFA from University of Alabama's creative writing program where he formerly served as the poetry editor for Black Warrior Review. He reads for SweetLit: A Literary Confection and Heavy Feather Review. His writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Timber, Colorado Review, smoking glue gun, Bayou and elsewhere. Find his tweets @SilentAsIAm, more writing @ whatgreatlarks.tumblr.com POEMS BELOW. Adagio For Strings No one wanted this smoke. Not Willem Dafoe or the albatross Whose wings Willem borrowed as splint for his splayed arms As if real bullets ripped through him. Not the wisteria Planting its tendrils on the ground’s sweaty palm Like the sun taking pennies as a return investment on heat. I drove my truck at forty miles per hour over the grey-blue asphalt And looked into the eyes of some Sandhill Crane Crossing the road unfazed by the wind whipping off my steel bumper. On the radio, there was a composer giving a talk about the hope he found In the last note of Sam Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.” As if of body memory, Mark’s corpse rose from a bare patch of sand On the side of Interstate 75! As is of body memory, Chris’s corpse rose from the gated-in parking lot Of a pain management center in Northeast Tampa! The ground swallowed every traffic sign in immune system response After swallowing them both on the same road. I drive that interstate northbound to escape the gulf and the ocean Overtaking Florida’s serrated coasts. I keep only the smoke, The Blackhawk’s wingspan, and the violin notes Piled on top of each other like bodies to be burned. I remember The way the Sand Hill Crane did not flinch. I cannot put my tongue around that. Under the trees where I slipped into dreams, I woke skewered By what the composer said, and the question the crane’s eye’s asked in response. From my morning stomach, I pulled speakers made of the hearts of the alligators I have eaten. Placing them in between the saw palm bushes, I started them Broadcasting “Adagio for Strings” in a staggered order. In the clearing, there were bushes of Pentas and Evolvus In the shape of soldiers kneeling to the sound. There were squirrels kneeling. Snakes bending their bodies to kneel. Bobcats kneeling. Chris kneeling. Mark kneeling. The dusk sun made shadows Of the withered tops of trees. The wind blew its violin trills And all the hearts I planted fell on their side in unison, Restarted in unison from the top. Just as the shadows started to grow, Blue smoke rose from the grasses. My Lover Squawk Squawks and Then Explodes We spent the morning before just talking. He said your body is slick like construction equipment, how it can move the sand to make a runway for my unhurried strut. He said your body is like a French fry on a laminated paper plate. In the high noon sun, I said you have a survivor’s disposition. It makes you gray. Slick and survivor made us think of our own days of darkness, his coated in motor oil on the gulf coast in search of something white, mine coated in olive oil, garlic, sea salt tears and smooth jazz. I told him his gray feathers and white food made me think of marbles. I told him that it seemed odd that he prefers dark drinks when we come out to the beach like this. He sipped his diet soda and said you just don’t understand, but I saw the white shining in the furthest reaches of his black eyes, that look as if he was already gone. He walked toward me for a kiss, then changed direction. Sprinted to the white pearl beached in the sand. I yelled to him as he passed me that I could see how, after living in all that oil, the clean sand, the white, could feel romantic, but inside I was hurt. He picked the piece from the sand with an instinctual fervor then gave a soul-curdling squawk. He swallowed the Mentos and exploded like a fourth of July firework over Coney Island.
