Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with David Dayen, executive editor at The American Prospect and co-host of the Organized Money podcast, to discuss the continued fallout from last Tuesday's elections. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the ongoing recriminations of Dems' major losses in last week's elections, a GOP trifecta, Trump's border czar, Elise Stefanik, Massachusetts teachers' labor action, Trump's hush money conviction, and the House's fast-tracking of a bill perfectly suited to Trump's fashy aims, also touching on how Trump's deportation plan has been drastically understated. David Dayen then joins, diving right into the broader context of this election within an era of overwhelmingly volatile politics, both within the US – as just the third instance of three-consecutive one-term presidencies – and globally – amid international anti-incumbent backlash – and why so much of that insecurity is a direct reflection of an economically insecure electorate with little-to-no faith in their political institutions (or those in control of them). Expanding on this, Dayen walks through the contrasting narratives around the US economy, with aggregate statistics and long-term predictions not reflecting the complete disappearance of a phenomenally successful pandemic-era social safety net, rising food and housing costs amid inflation, before he, Sam, and Emma step back to reflect on the long-term narrative of inaction and piecemeal action from the Biden Administration when it came to his primary agenda item of Build Back Better. After expanding on the internal contradictions that have held the Democratic Party back so thoroughly over the last decade, David dives into the major threat of a prepared Trump Administration under Project 2025, and wraps up with the need to push our political institutions (be they media or state) to keep emphasizing oversight and accountability as we head into Trump 2.0. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma unpack the expansive plans Trump has for his recently-named border Czar, and listen to Philippe Reines – advisor to Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris' campaigns – give his take on why the Democratic party should double down on the anti-woke. Malaika Jabali absolutely nails how Democrats' 2024 campaign ignored the working class, plus, your calls and IMs! Eight days out from the election, Jen Psaki explains how Donald Trump's dark Madison Square Garden rally reveals his team's belief that a closing message of racism and hate is effective, while Kamala Harris and her team of all-star surrogates continue to call him out. Jen is joined by a panel of reporters and political analysts including George Conway, Eugene Daniels, and Philippe Reines to discuss the stark difference between the candidates as they compete to seal the deal. Next, Jen is joined by Michael Tyler, communications director for the Harris-Walz campaign, to discuss Trump and his allies' disturbingly racist rhetoric at his MSG rally and the contrast it provides for voters as Kamala Harris' concludes her campaign focused on unity and hope. Jen is also joined by Senator Elizabeth Warren to react to Kamala Harris' closing ad highlighting her economic plan to support working class families. Later, "Pod Save America" Co-Host Tommy Vietor joins the show to discuss Michelle and Barack Obama's extremely effective surrogacy for Kamala Harris as they campaign for her across swing states. Jen also talks with elections lawyer Marc Elias to discuss ballot boxes being set on fire in Oregon and Washington state, amid growing threats against election officials across the country. Finally, Jen reflects on President Joe Biden casting his early ballot today for Kamala Harris and the literal vote of confidence it symbolizes in his chosen successor. On this week's episode of 'The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart,' The Final Countdown: in 4 days President Biden and Donald Trump are squaring off in their first face-to-face meeting since 2020. Philippe Reines, who played Trump during Hillary Clinton's debate prep, and former Biden aide Meghan Hays will walk us through the historic showdown. We will also take a closer look at how it could reshape the race for 2024 and what it takes to prepare for the ultimate wild card that is Donald Trump. Plus: Donald Trump says he's chosen his vice presidential running mate and that person could be at Thursday's debate. I'll talk about the possible contenders going full MAGA right now with my Sound Off panel. And the fight is not over. Two years after the Supreme Court repealed the right to choose an abortion, Democrats are turning their attention to an obscure 150-year-old law that could be a back-door route to a national abortion ban. Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith talks about her effort to repeal the Comstock Act. All that and more on “The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart.”

Alex Wagner and Mark McKinnon are on the ground in Cleveland gauging public reactions to the debate, as all the hosts react to the seismic news that President Donald Trump tested positive for COVID-19.

Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Former Spokesman for Hillary Clinton, Philippe Reines, explains how Democrats and Independents are feeling this election year and how President Biden and former President Donald Trump's age, status, and competency are impacting Americans' opinions. This members-only episode was originally published on September 27, 2020 and moved to this feed for full member access.“People are dying, tens of thousands of people are out of work, he's embarrassing,” is not only the quote of the year from Philippe Reines but also sums up how he, Rick Wilson, Molly Jong-Fast, and Mike Madrid feel about Donald Trump's dwindling support among his own base. To make matters worse for the president, he is set to debate Joe Biden for the first time Tuesday night, and he doesn't have that same 2016 anger and energy he drummed up to defeat Hillary Clinton. In this new members-only bonus episode of The New Abnormal, Rick, Molly, Philippe and Mike discuss what Joe Biden should say, word for word, when he gets on that stage with Trump and the one thing that could sink the president without Joe's help. Two words: no crowds. “That is where Trump is at his worst,” says Mike. “Without that he's going to be like a goat in the wilderness.” There's also the whole painting-Biden-as-senile by the Trump campaign thing, and it just won't work, Mike says: “They're tried to convince people that he's senile and will drool on people while at the same time trying to convince people he's some mastermind of the left that's going to being about socialism.” It is quite ironic. “If one of those guys is more likely to keel over Tuesday night on stage, it's not Joe Biden,” adds Philippe. Then, the group switches gears to talk about Trump losing support among a few of his core voter demographics: senior citizens and non-college educated men. (“COVID has broken the Trump fever") Plus! Rick gives a dramatic reading of one of Trump's rally quotes and it's just a bogus as you'd expect. And the group discusses that awkward moment when the crowd booed Trump at Ruth Bader Ginsburg's funeral: “This is the only time he's worn his mask when we desperately needed to see his face.” See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

(“In a perfect world, he would pick Bernie Sanders,” says Reines, before clarifying greatly.) Plus! Our dynamic duo asks the important questions, like: What exactly is wrong with Mark Zuckerberg? Trump talks tough. But like most bullies, he shies away from any real fight. The problem is talking tough increases tensions and that raises the risk of accidental war (made more possible by the fact our National Security Advisor is a pyromaniac with a box of matches). But scary as all that is, more dangerous is what is happening at home--both in terms of the GOP war on our democracy, on women, on immigrants and on our every standard of decency and in terms of what has been a pretty sluggish response to it all by the Democrats in the Congress. What's next and why you should always have a basement full of non-perishable treats are what we discuss with DSR regular Rosa Brooks of Georgetown Law School and our friends from the Unredacted from DSR podcast, Philippe Reines, Molly Jong-Fast and Emily Brandwin. To impeach or not to impeach -- that is the question. This week our own Joe Lockhart had a op-ed column published in The New York Times under the headline: “There’s a Prize Bigger than Impeachment” -- that followed a Times column back in March by our friend Philippe Reines co-Host of the new podcast Unredacted with Emily Brandwin and Molly Jong Fast, entitled -- “Why Impeaching Trump is ‘Worth It’”. Philippe's argument was the exact opposite of Joe's.So, they decided to debate the issue face to face on Words Matter. Katie moderates Round 1 of the Great Impeachment Debate. Philippe Reines isn’t a big believer in softball politics. In the latest episode of The Jamie Weinstein Show, the longtime aide to Hillary Clinton opens up about Trump’s presidency, whether he is as bad as Trump when it comes to inflammatory rhetoric, why he thinks Trump is likely to win again in 2020, and much more. Show Roadmap: What’s surprised Reines about the Trump presidency. On his interactions with Trump. Whether the left bears any responsibility for Trump’s rise. Whether he would prefer a President Mike Pence to President Trump. On the criticisms against Hillary Clinton and her candidacy. What Reines makes of the Russia investigation. On whether he is as bad as Trump when it comes to inflammatory rhetoric. Why Reines says he is a Democrat. Whether Hillary might really run again in 2020. Who Reines thinks would be the most formidable Democratic presidential contender in 2020 and why he thinks Trump will probably win again. On Matt Drudge, Tucker Carlson, Sidney Blumenthal, and Tom Steyer. Closing questions.
Normally, Lafayette Park is one of those pretty, history-drenched spots in Washington, where you walk around wondering whose footsteps you might be following. You’re right across from the White House, close enough that you can practically see into the front windows. Now, though, the most important thing to know about this D.C. spot is what Occupy Lafayette Park is?—?because the square might just be full of anti-Trump protestors. Courtesy, @bustle The elections held on Tuesday, November 6, are the first midterms under President Donald Trump, and the stakes for both parties are incredibly high. A fired up Democratic base threatens Republicans’ unified control of federal government?—?and the outcome could have lasting consequences for the remainder of President Trump’s presidency and his legacy. If Democrats do well and flip one or both chambers of Congress, they could slow down Trump and the Republicans’ legislative agenda?—?or open up serious investigations into Trump, his administration, and his associates. But if the GOP retains control of both chambers, they’ll have a shot at introducing sweeping policy changes that could impact our nation for decades to come. Courtesy, @voxdotcom
We detect a downshift in the mood of Democrats. We perceive Liberals losing their faith in "progress" and their "view of the world" as they bitterly cling to their "Obama Dolls" in the Trump Era. Stephen Pinker's new book, Enlightenment Now, attempts to stave off panic in these "wavering souls." But does he succeed? Philosopher John Gray doesn't think so. Former Hillary advisor Philippe Reines marvels over Trump's "remarkable" Pennsylvania Rally and says he sees how Trump could win in 2020. Beseiged Never Trumper Bill Kristol develops a curious "Davy Crockett Complex." Alamo time? MSNBC's Joy Reid defends the IQ of Maxine Waters. CNN avoids coverage of the Democrats' growing Farrakhan Scandal. Elizabeth "Pocahontas" Warren refuses a DNA test. ABC's Joy Behar privately apologizes to VP Mike Pence. Trump floats "paper" ballots. Mueller contemplates the Seychelles as Democrats migrate their hopes over to porn star Stormy Daniels. Meanwhile, a new Harvard-Harris poll shows overwhelming support for Trump's trade policies. Also, we explore new revelations from AG Jeff Sessions concerning his quiet appointment of an experienced investigator into Deep State malfeasance. Grounds for optimism? Has Stealth Sessions been up to more than we've realized? Former DA Joe diGenova weighs in. Plus, we remark on the 48th Anniversary of The Beatles song "Let It Be." https://www.rt.com/usa/355291-morrell-kill-russians-clinton/ "Former CIA deputy director Michael Morell, who supports Hillary Clinton and insists that Donald Trump is being manipulated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, said that Russians and Iranians in Syria should be killed covertly to â??pay the price.â?? The top CIA official, who twice served as the acting director of the agency, and worked with Clinton while she was secretary of state, told PBS host Charlie Rose that Iran and Russia should â??pay a big priceâ?? in Syria â?? and by that he meant killing them. "I ran the CIA now Iâ??m endorsing Hillary Clinton and I want Hillary to kill lots of Russians and Iranians in Syria" Referring to the US-backed rebels in Syria, Morell said he wanted Washington to support them in more aggressive actions, not only against Bashar Assadâ??s government, but against Iranians and Russians. Morrell then went on a diatribe about how the US should â??scareâ?? Assad, including going after his national guard and â??bombing his offices in the middle of the night.â?? After he retired from the CIA in August 2013, Morrell took a job at Beacon Global Strategies, a Washington, DC consultancy founded by Clinton aides Philippe Reines and Andrew Shapiro. There he worked with Leon Panetta, another Clinton aide and his predecessor at the helm of the CIA, who also spoke in support of Clinton at the Democratic convention in Philadelphia last month. Last year, Morrell apologized to â??every Americanâ?? and finally owned up to the â??mistakesâ?? made by the CIA in Iraq, where over 4,000 US soldiers and at least 250,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed since the 2003 US invasion." - RT News
