One of our special Charity Spotlight episodes...with Mortal And Strong founder and podcast host Dr Liz Murray interviewing the wonderful Lisa Allen from the Pink Ribbon Foundation. Lisa Allen has been with the Pink Ribbon Foundation charity since its launch 24 years ago and in that time has watched/helped it grow into the incredible entity that it is. The Pink Ribbon Foundation helps countless charities each year across the UK who are working within the breast cancer community. The PRF fundraise and collaborate with amazing companies, then provide a grant-making scheme to charities who are working to help anyone with breast cancer. Their outreach is phenomenal and the leading lady Lisa Allen has done so much to make this the incredible, impactful charity that it is. In this episode Liz speaks with Lisa about how the Pink Ribbon Foundation started, some of the amazing projects they have funded and campaigns they have supported, including the power of using art to raise awareness. Mortal And Strong is currently running its 2024/25 Scars of Gold campaign, focusing on women's health and through this campaign we are featuring a number of Spotlight Charities. Whilst we raise awareness of so many health conditions affecting young people with life changing or incurable disease, we want to signpost to specialist charities who are available for the individual communities we are covering. With breast cancer being the most common cancer to affect women, and affecting so many across the UK, several of our Spotlight Charities are breast cancer related to try and raise as much support and awareness for this life changing disease which kills one person every 45 minutes on average in the UK. Thank you to Lisa Allen for all her incredible work with the PRF, and for working with us to raise awareness of our Scars of Gold Campaign.Mortal and Strong is a registered charity (Reg No. 1209448) supporting people facing their own mortality - those affected at a young age by a life changing/incurable illness or disease. 100 Voices sharing messages of hope and strength through our podcast with a powerful photography series ‘Scars of Gold' inspired by kintsugi. Building a platform to provide health awareness, support and education to change the face of disease in young people. Founded by Dr Liz Murray. Hosted on Acast. Lucja Leonard loves running, but hasn't always! A Dutch-born, Aussie raised, British woman living in the USA with her husband & fellow ultra runner, Dion Leonard, and their 2 fur-kids Gobi & Lara life is anything but straight forward. Overweight, unfit and unhappy Lucja turned her well-being and overall happiness around when she took up running in 2004 to try and lose some weight off her 216 pound, and growing, body. Never much for sports growing up she was surprised to discover that she enjoyed the thrill of running and after running her first marathon in 2010 she started to wonder what more her body was capable of. In 2013 she ran her first ultra marathon as part of the Kalahari Extreme Marathon, a 250km race over 6 stages/7days through the Kalahari desert in South Africa where you have to carry all your kit and food to survive the entire week! From here she was unstoppable having run a multitude of ultras around the world, the tougher and higher the DNF rate the more excited she gets about giving it a go. Lucja's experience now includes epic races such as Leadville 100, Ultra Trail Mont Blanc 106 miles, Oman by UTMB, Marathon Des Sables and Transgrancanaria 125km to name just a few. This year she takes on her biggest challenge to date by attempting to run the Triple Crown of 200 milers, Bigfoot 200, Tahoe 200 & Moab 240 over only a 9 week period in total! Ultra running has not just shaped Lucja's mind and body but it has changed both her and Dion's lives. Dion was running a 250k/155mile multi stage race across the Gobi desert in China in 2016 when a stray dog started following him. She would run nearly 80 miles with him and Dion and Lucja turned their lives upside down in the process of adopting her from China to the UK where they were living at the time. You can read more about their true & inspiring story in the NY Times bestselling book 'Finding Gobi' which is also being made into a Hollywood film. Lucja lives her life fearless! The bigger the challenge the better. She went from overweight and unhappy to fit and having incredible adventures. On this podcast Lucja talks about her very first epic ultra and subsequent struggles. She also opens up about insecurities and how she has overcome them through positive self-talk. Lucja tells us about her biggest challenge to date, the Triple Crown of 200 milers and raising money for the Pink Ribbon Foundation that supports breast cancer patients, which is a charity close to her heart. We know you will walk away from this one as inspired as we were. “Believe in yourself as others believe in you”. You can find out more about Lucja and follow her journey @runningdutchie on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Hey rebels! Today we are chatting with Adri Luna! She is an artist specializing in abstract art and paper installation art and we are obsessed! We chat all about running a side hustle, finding a local community of artists, and the growing KC art scene! Can’t wait for you to listen! A little bit from Adri: I am an artist living in Kansas City, Missouri. I create large and small abstract paintings as well as site-specific installations in galleries or smaller pieces for the home. I sell my work online and have a studio space where I work with a variety of makers. Adri’s Links! We have the Regent headphones from Sudio Sweden and we LOVE them! The Regent is their premium on-ear model, with impeccable clarity in the instrumental tones and well balanced sound. With 24+ hours of active battery life, and 20 days of standby life, the Regent is the perfect companion for you at home or on the go. It will connect to any device that has Bluetooth, but there is also an auxiliary cord if you don't want to use the wireless option. You can also personalize your Regent interchangeable caps, such as white or black marble designs. SO COOL! The combination of high polished metal and matte surfaces embodies the vision of Scandinavian design. Seriously, Rebels! These are so good!
