What a great season! What a great team! Our beloved Detroit Lions had a season for the ages, and we just can't get enough. We just had to have one more week of Detroit Lions football. What a great show this weekend, with superfans, super chefs, and even a former player stopping by to share the excitement. We start with our good friend Earl Bovia from Bay City Bills Bar & Grill, a Lions season ticket holder along with his wife Michelle, and a huge supporter of all things Bay City. He and Gonzo even went to a few games together this year, we recap a few of their favorite moments from this season.Gina Ferwerda is a chef, business owner, and published cookbook author based in the Silver Lake area. She shares her Defend the Den burger, which you can find in her cookbook "Meals from the Mitten" and that has been featured on the Rachel Ray show. Of course, she's also a lifelong fan.Our final guest was a delight to get to talk with and get a true insider's take on what it's like to be a Detroit Lion. Former guard Rob Sims joins us to talk about this season, the National Cherry Festival, a few of his favorite Michigan spots, and what he and his current business partner Calvin Johnson are up to now.
Rob Sims was a national champion and team captain at Ohio State before being drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in 2006 to fill in for the recently retired Seahawks Legend Steve Hutchinson. It was not until after he got traded to the Detroit Lions that not only his NFL career took off but his entrepreneurial as well. In Detroit he became good friends with NFL Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson and shortly after they both retired they created Primitiv, a Michigan-based cannabis company that is focused on finding alternative solutions to consumer recovery. Have you tried Primitiv before? What was it like being in the NFL and using cannabis? Are players using cannabis in the league? Should NFL allow players to use cannabis instead of just pushing pharmaceuticals because of the addiction that has occurred? Why did they come up with the name Primitiv for their brand? Plant Medicine and Psilocyben medicine are here and it's not going away. Episode 90 MiCannaCast Cannadave & Groovee talk about the recent experience at GreenHouse of Walled Lake Cannabis kickoff of the Summer event. A new state just joined the adult-use market on the east coast Connecticut. Cannabis company Lume is advertising at a music theater in Mi. All this and more on the latest episode of MiCannaCast GreenHouse Event Greenhouse hosted a cannabis kickoff event with different vendors and brands there. You had Primitiv Brand Calvin Johnson (Megatron) & Rob Sims showcasing the new product and taking photos. For Cannadave it was a dream to meet Megatron, one of his all-time favorite football players and now entered the cannabis space. We did pick up three strains of Primitiv which are Sensi Star, Runtz, and Peanut Butter Breath. Primitiv has flowers available in a couple of locations, definitely check them out, the Runtz was pretty darn good. You also had Darren McCarthy there repping his brand and promoting and taking photos as well too. You could purchase either of these products at GreenHouse which is 21 and up. They had a CBD company and Element Extractions as well too up there. Later in the evening, they had a firework show too, which we didn't stay for but enjoyed a couple of hours there. Shout-out for putting on the event and drawing the cannabis crowd. Connecticut The newest state to join the adult-use market is Connecutire, they're the 19th State. This is great news and exciting because it's the 4th state this year alone to join the adult-use market. They do have some weird cannabis laws drawn up with the legislation. We go into more detail in the episode about the laws. We are starting to inch closer to over half the United States will be an adult-use market 21 and up can consume cannabis. Lume Cannabis Lume Cannabis just inked a deal with DTE Music Theater out in Oakland County Michigan. We have been to Lume cannabis before and it wasn't our favorite spot. It's cool to see the advertising come mainstream because it's just not billboards or social media now, it's entire concert venues. We hope with this happening the legislation doesn't continue to bring up the cannabis billboard ban. Therefore cannabis companies should be able to advertise there as well as concert venues. If you can advertise at a venue you should be able to do a billboard. It will be interesting to see where else the cannabis community will be able to advertise in the future. MiCannaCast All this and more in the latest episode of MiCannaCast. We talk about some strains and more in the episode too. As a former offensive lineman in the NFL for nine years, starting his career with the Seattle Seahawks and ending it with the Detroit Lions, Rob Sims has seen the need for professional athletes to access holistic healing. It's a need he saw before he was a football player, watching the career of his NFL-playing father. “I saw the good, the bad, and the ugly of what it looks like to go in and out of the game, and he prepared me going into the game,” Rob said. “I was able to have a great career but not without its ups and downs, not without its rollercoasters.” Navigating physical pain was a significant part of his career as an athlete. So after nearly a decade of this, Rob looked to the example of entrepreneurs in his family and, with his former Detroit Lions teammate Calvin Johnson, started his own cannabis company. It's a concept the NFL — a “big, big company” where “things move slowly” — needs to catch up to, he says. Because in catching up, they'll help save athletes' lives. In this episode of Good Dudes Grow, Gary and Rob talk about why it's time the NFL recognized the benefits of CBD and cannabis and what it's been like to jump into entrepreneurism with another pro-athlete business partner.
