Agenda 47 is a series of policy initiatives Trump intends to enact if elected. In the telling of one hair on fire liberal commentator, Agenda 47 includes ... * massive deportation * death sentence for human trafficking * close dept of education * put prayer in school * close race based advantage programs * end affordable care act * ban gender affirming care for adults and children * term limits for congee * investigate Biden crime family * pardon Jan 6ers * increase juvenile sentences, strengthen immunity for police, deploy national guard in woke cities * reassessment NATO * Muslim travel ban * Freedom cities * End federal EV mandates * Drill of gas and oil domestically * increase tariffs on Chinese goods * extend 2017 tax cuts * extend right to conceal, carry * get Europe to pay back money we gave to Ukraine * remove federal subsidies from woke Universities The boys review each of these items to determine if they're as scary as the frightened liberals imagine. They also discuss Joe Biden's debate meltdown and what might happen next for Democrats. P&C start the show by drinking and reviewing Eliot Ness Amber Lager from Great Lakes Brewing Company.
In this episode, we share the recording from our recent May networking event at Great Lakes Brewing Company. This event featured a discussion about greenspace with three local leaders working on expanding greenspace in our urban core and increasing access and opportunities to experience nature through outdoor recreation, especially for our historically underserved communities. Our three speakers from Cleveland Metroparks, the local nonprofit SYATT, and the Trust for Public Land speak about improving our community and environmental health by creating more access to greenspace and the collaborations that amplify their work. At 2:18 our first speaker is Kaela Geschke, the Ohio Parks for People Program Director for the Trust for Public Land. Kell speaks about some of the projects she is working on in our region to create and protect nature-rich places and the importance of that work to the health of our community. At 14:18, our second speaker is Kelly Coffman, a principal planner with Cleveland Metroparks. Kelly speaks about the strategic planning effort to create greenways connecting our inner city areas with our lake and other parks to increase park access. Kelly also shares the latest details on the CHEERS project, which will transform Cleveland's east side Lake Erie waterfront. At 27:30, our third speaker is Erika Hood, the Co-Founder and Director of Equity and Engagement for SYATT (See You At The Top). This local organization provides opportunities for Black and Brown communities to explore nature and outdoor recreation. In this episode, we bring you the conversation from Eco Meet CLE, a sustainability event held this October at Great Lakes Brewing Company. The theme of the evening was local food. Over 100 people joined us for food, beer, and a conversation about our local food system with a panel of guests that helped us explore the meaning of the term food system, the various roles within that system, and ways we might make it more local, more accessible, and more inclusive. In this recording, we first hear Lexi St. Denis, the local and responsible food coordinator for Great Lakes Brewing Company, describe her job and the farmers she works with. After that, we hear from Dr. Darcy Friedman, a renowned researcher and the Director of the Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health at CASE. Dr. Friedman moderated our panel of 3 speakers that included Zainab Pixler, the Local Food Systems Strategy Coordinator for the City of Cleveland Department of Public Health; Annabel Khouri, the owner of Bay Branch Farm in Cleveland and a member of the USDA Farm Service agency committee; Jennifer Lumpkin, founder of My Grow Connect, an organization that works to connect the community with agriculture and member of the Cuyahoga County Food Policy Coalition. We've set the table for some intriguing topics - everything from food sovereignty to wealth building for BIPOC growers. And we examine solutions that Cleveland can adopt to improve its local food system, address disparities, and improve health in our communities. So pull up a chair. We're also diving into the wild world of storms, energy drinks, and coffee preferences. With tales of home ownership highs and lows, and a hilarious recount of the aftermath of Ethan's driveway project, we leave no stone unturned. We even share the spotlight on the importance of safety measures like wearing gloves—alongside the temptation of McDonald's and the power of the internet for home improvement!Don't think we've kept things too serious, though. Our discussions took curious turns, debating on the length of a toilet paper roll to envisioning the consequences of an asteroid hitting the earth. And if that's not enough, we switch gears to explore the complex terrain of relationships, the need for romance in a marriage, and some surprising stats about divorce. So, strap in for a ride that's as entertaining as it is enlightening, filled with laughter, insights, and plenty of delicious craft beer.Support the showwww.anotherreasontodrink.com

Emily Pek is a flower farmer and the owner of Frayed Knot Farm, a small flower farm in Newbury, Ohio, where she produces beautiful, diverse cut flowers and herbs that share stories, bring joy and support equitable and regenerative farming. In this episode, we visit Emily on her farm and discover her journey to becoming a flower farmer, the family roots and community behind her farm, the flowers behind the Saison beer at Great Lakes Brewing Company, and her grandpa's punny joke that inspired the name Frayed Knot Farm. If Emily were a flower, she says she would be Foxglove. It's delicate but tough with "tough" being the operative word behind being a farmer. Starting with just a grass field in 2018, Emily now grows over 100 varieties of annual and perennial flowers and foliage on less than an acre using hand-scale farming practices. She demonstrates how hard work and a "why not?" attitude can turn dreams into reality. Join us on this episode to discover the heart and hard work behind Frayed Knot Farm and Emily's passion for a more sustainable and healthy environment. P&C drink and review Haze Crafy IPA from Great Lakes Brewing Company, then discuss situations where Pigweed pointed out the craziness of a position only to find that the left doubled down on craziness. Body identity disorder is a weird condition where a person believes a limb isn't really his and doesn't belong. He wants a doctor to cut it off. But of course no reputable doctor would do such a thing. How is this different from trans surgery? We're seeing a movement that increasingly wants to accommodate delusions. Pigweed also pointed out that if a minor can choose to be a different sex, why can't they choose to have sex with whom they want. Including an adult. You're expected to be so repulsed by the idea that you jump back in fear from allowing minors to choose their sex. But the crazy left is going the other direction. They're starting to push the idea of allowing sex between adults and minors.
Spring is a time of emerging, reawakening, and growing beer sales after the category's typical winter lull—at least for most breweries. But Ohio's largest brewery, Great Lakes Brewing Company, goes against that seasonal wisdom: Its slow season happens in the warmer months, while winter is its annual highpoint. What gives? That's just one of the questions writer and photographer David Nilsen attempts to answer in his latest piece titled “Lore of the Lakes — Great Lakes Brewing Company, Cleveland, Ohio,” which was published on February 1, 2023 as part of Good Beer Hunting's Signifier series. Inspired by his own coming-of-age story as a beer drinker from Ohio, he dives into the brand's history, legacy, and future, all of which seem tied together by two big questions: Just who is Great Lakes, and who is it becoming? Today, David and I discuss how his story evolved from love letter to detailed look at the brewery's operations and iconic beers themselves, like the beloved Christmas Ale that's released each October. He doesn't shy away from Great Lakes' struggle to define itself in the face of a changing industry, and where it had to look to find inspiration. That inspiration is leading the brewery in interesting, and sometimes unexpected, directions, none of which are off-limits to the historic brand as it attempts to balance legacy and innovation. While the story of a beloved craft brewery and its cherished releases can often seem romantic, David reveals how the struggles behind the scenes aren't always quite so charming. But there's still plenty of beauty in each word and picture, so come on a journey to the shores of Lake Erie and hear all about it.

This week I travel to Great Lakes Brewing Company in Cleveland, Ohio. I sat down with Michael Williams who does brand coordination and marketing at GLBC. During this interview we learn about the oldest brewery in Ohio and how it came to be. We also talked about the history of the building as it pertained to Eliot Ness and the mysterious bullet holes that may or may not have been intended for Mr. Ness. We also discussed the 2023 beer release calendar that recently just came out which included a few new additions like a low cal watermelon wheat, a couple of new IPAs, a new stout, and the latest edition to the GLBC family which is a hard tea that is set to be released sometime in April. During the interview we tried some classics including: Dortmunder Gold, Conway's Irish Ale, Eliot Ness Amber Lager, Dank Demon DIPA, an experimental Hazy, and Barrel Aged Black Out Stout. Lay of the Land's conversation today is with Pat Conway and Mark King of Great Lakes Brewing Company.Pat and his brother Daniel founded the company back in 1988 in Cleveland's Ohio City neighborhood where it's been independent for over 30 years and employee-owned since 2018 — serving 14 states and Washington D.C. with an award-winning and beloved selection of fresh, flavorful, and innovative craft beers that Clevelanders and others around the country have come to love like their Dortmunder and Christmas Ale.In 2019, Mark King joined the company as the CEO after an extensive career in the industry as a vice president at Anheuser-Busch, and most recently, having founded his own cidery back in 2013 down in Austin, Texas — Austin Eastciders. We cover a lot in this conversation, from the history of breweries and beer production in Cleveland, to Great Lake Lake's Brewing commitment to a triple bottom line of brewing good — from beer to community to environmental stewardship, to their role as a staple in Cleveland through events like the Burning River festival, to how they are handling the ever-changing beer industry — from the proliferation of craft breweries to “beyond beer” beverages like seltzers.Great Lakes Brewing has blazed a trail for so many other Cleveland companies and entrepreneurs and it is a privilege to capture a piece of their story here and how they are thinking about what comes next — please enjoy my conversation with Pat Conway and Mark King!--Learn more about Great Lakes Brewing CompanyConnect with Mark King on LinkedInFollow Great Lakes Brewing Company on InstagramFollow Great Lakes Brewing Company on Twitter--Connect with Jeffrey Stern on LinkedInFollow Jeffrey Stern on Twitter @sternJefeFollow Lay of The Land on Twitter @podlayofthelandhttps://www.jeffreys.page/

We review 4 of the 5 beers from their GIMME FIVE! variety pack (sorry only 4 of the 5, ran out of beer one night and sacrifices were made). We talk about the brewery and some of its history as well as review their Burning River Pale Ale, Dortmunder Gold Lager, Great Lakes IPA and Hazecraft IPA. Will share paranormal stories we found from the area between each beer. Stories from Aqua Club, Frankin Castle and Renaissance Hotel. Two of those places are within 10 minute of the brewery.

Great Lakes Brewing Co. is going strong 34 years on We all know cans are cool. Right? All the hype beers come in cans. Great Lakes Brewing Co. has been around since before cans were cool for craft. Good, craft beer came in bottles, and the macro stuff was shoved into cans. When you're 30+ years old in American craft beer you're going to have some fans that still think a craft beer needs to come in a bottle. That's exactly why classic like Edmund Fitzgerald Porter (aka Eddie Fitz, aka Fitz) and Eliot Ness Amber Lager stay in bottles. When they tried to make the switch to cans their OG fans weren't having it, so back to bottles they go. But Great Lakes Brewing Co. isn't just about their classic beers. They've got new hotness like their Crushworthy Lo-Cal Citrus Wheat and TropiCoastal Tropical IPA (fun fact for the Georgia folks, TropiCoastal was inspired by Creature Comforts Tropicalia) goes into cans. A little something for everyone at GLBC. Brand Coordinator and Beer Educator Michael Williams joined us this week to talk about the old and new, employee ownership, and hot dog pairings and toppings. We also discuss moves and mergers and sellouts and acquisitions. Great Lakes Brewing recently hired Steven Pauwels to join the team, the legendary brewer previously at Boulevard. You can check out our 2019 show with Pauwels on Ep. 180. There's a lot going on here, folks. Crank up some Gordon Lightfoot and give it a listen. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this bonus episode to Brewing for Good, we continue our conversation with Pat and Dan Conway of Great Lakes Brewing Company to hear how they got their start in the craft beer industry and opened the first micro-brewery in Ohio in 1988. Sustainability takes on new meaning in this story because the story of Great Lakes Brewing is also the story of the rebirth of a neighborhood. Tune in for some interesting insights about these two entrepreneurs and their Ohio City neighborhood. The Conway brothers are two of the most trailblazing, generous, and fun people you could ever meet. Together, they brought us craft beer, the first Christmas ale, a revitalized Ohio City, and a model company that incorporates a Triple Bottom Line approach in all they do. Since 1988, Great Lakes Brewing Company founders and co-owners, Pat and Dan Conway have been brewing award-winning beer while also brewing good for the environment, the community, and their workers. In this podcast, I was able to reconnect with Dan and Pat whom I first met in 2000 when they first began hosting meetings of a local networking group called E4S - Entrepreneurs for Sustainability. An instrumental beginning to Cleveland's environmental renaissance. In this episode, Pat and Dan talk about how this renaissance got its start and the pioneering things they did as a business to lead the way. How did enslaved African Americans in the Old South really experience Christmas? Did Christmastime provide slaves with a lengthy and jubilant respite from labor and the whip, as is generally assumed, or is the story far more complex and troubling? In this provocative, revisionist, and sometimes chilling account, Robert E. May chides the conventional wisdom for simplifying black perspectives, uncritically accepting southern white literary tropes about the holiday, and overlooking evidence not only that countless southern whites passed Christmases fearful that their slaves would revolt but also that slavery's most punitive features persisted at holiday time.In Yuletide in Dixie, May uncovers a dark reality that not only alters our understanding of that history but also sheds new light on the breakdown of slavery in the Civil War and how false assumptions about slave Christmases afterward became harnessed to myths undergirding white supremacy in the United States. By exposing the underside of slave Christmases, May helps us better understand the problematic stereotypes of modern southern historical tourism and why disputes over Confederate memory retain such staying power today. A major reinterpretation of human bondage, Yuletide in Dixie challenges disturbing myths embedded deeply in our culture.HOST: Rob MellonFEATURED BREW: Christmas Ale, Great Lakes Brewing Company, Cleveland, OhioBOOK: Yuletide in Dixie: Slavery, Christmas, and Southern Memoryhttps://www.amazon.com/Yuletide-Dixie-Slavery-Christmas-Southern/dp/0813945100/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=1638405838&sr=8-1MUSIC: Bones Forkhttps://bonesfork.com/es Fork
This is the episode the guys really let loose. They get real old, real fast while talking about inappropriate Kidz Bop songs and then somehow go even farther off the rails during the best athlete endorsements conversation. We need a movement.
