Jerry Gorton's Dark Secret IV: The FBI profile was completely wrong about who killed Margaret Ebby

Tunnel vision can be the ultimate enemy of justice. In this riveting exploration of the Margaret Ebbe murder investigation, we reveal how a questionable FBI profile led detectives down a singular path focused on former university employee Charlie Stone, potentially blinding them to other suspects and evidence. The Ebbe family, desperate for answers about their mother's brutal killing, hired private investigator Thomas Reed, who embarked on a costly and ultimately absurd pursuit of Stone. From staking out his Pennsylvania residence to ordering pizzas from the Domino's where he worked just to interact with him, Reed's investigation reads like dark comedy—expensive hours billed with nothing substantial to show for the effort.Meanwhile, the case took a devastating turn when Metropolitan Detroit magazine published "The Two Mrs. Ebbes," a cruel article that painted a lurid and largely fictional picture of the victim's personal life. Based heavily on the FBI profile and questionable sources with personal grudges against Ebbe, the article suggested she had willingly participated in bondage with her killer—a narrative that shattered her family and misled the public. What makes this case particularly troubling is how the FBI's behavioral science unit was credited with solving previous high-profile cases when there's little evidence they contributed. Yet their profile in the Ebbe case was treated as gospel, narrowing the focus of the investigation dramatically while potential leads went unexplored. Despite Flint Police maintaining an impressive clearance rate for homicides during a record-breaking year of violence, the Ebbe case remained frustratingly open.As the episode introduces us to Art Ludwig and his wife Nancy Lepore, new threads begin to appear in this complex mystery. Their seemingly perfect life together creates an intriguing counterpoint to the main investigation, suggesting connections that will become clear as Jeffrey Gordon's deadly secrets continue to unfold.Have you ever wondered how a murder investigation can go wrong despite the best intentions? This episode shows exactly how confirmation bias and overreliance on profiles can derail the pursuit of justice. What would you look for if you were investigating this case?Send us a text Support the show

Watson during around 2010-2011 during the promotional season for my wedding, entertainment and events company located in Metropolitan Detroit. Stephanie was hosting and promoting several wedding and bridal fashion show events to allow brides and vendors the opportunity to connect.  Little did I know that Stephanie was into far more than just B2C events in the Metropolitan Detroit area. Since those earlier days I have kept tabs on Stephanie via Facebook and twitter and she has not slowed down. As with keeping with what I call the hustle economy, Stephanie has continued to progress forward in her business ventures with PR and Events. Then I discovered Wendy Executive Director of the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan and Gail Senior Staff Assoc with the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit were responsible for the wonderful new exhibit I had enjoyed a few days earlier titled "Chasing Dreams Baseball and Becoming American". I was so pleased to have them take the time to tape a segment for the Emily T Gail Show espnhawaii.com about the exhibit and related family events they have planned which we talk about in our interview. Meanwhile ....Here is some of the info about the exhibit from a nice story in the Oakland press by Sari Cicurel: The Jewish Historical Society of Michigan brought the exhibit to the Detroit Historical Museum and it will run through November 27. The exhibit is presented by West Bloomfield-based Jewish Historical Society of Michigan and the Detroit Historical Society. The exhibit celebrates heroes and pioneers like Hank Greenberg, Sandy Koufax, Jackie Robinson Roberto Clemente and Ichiro Suzuki. At the same time that baseball has reflected the best of America, it has also been a mirror for challenges the nation has faced, such as racism, anti-Semitism, class stratifications, the challenges of urbanization. During the three months some special events included: • A Conversation about baseball and baseball history with Mike “Stoney” Stone, 97.1 The the event with Mike “Stoney” Stone was a casual evening featuring baseball-themed food and baseball history at the Detroit Historical Museum. • A Family Day took place presented by the Jewish Historical Society of Michigan and the Michigan Jewish Sports Foundation. Duran Duran.  The NeverEnding Story.  Transformers. 1984 was a good year, and so it's of little surprise that episode 84 of our weekly live broadcast was a blast. With our guests from Falling Down Beer Company, RhinoCoders and Startup Weekend Pontiac in-studio with us, we had a wide variety of topics to handle...to the point where it even took us into a fifth segment to get through it all... We kicked off this episode with another retrospective intro, and then dove into our usual round of guest introductions, followed by the stories that have caught our eye this past week. Oh and hey, get a free audio book by hitting http://www.Audible.com/ITintheD The end of Internet Explorer.  Sending money via Facebook Messenger.  The Nain Rouge events downtown over the weekend.  Slow Roll wanting people to buy memberships.  The amazing number of apps in the Apple store that haven't had a single download.  Our new favorite gag gift to send to people. After a break, we dove in with Matt and Jon from RhinoCoders.  RhinoCoders immerses the young people of Metropolitan Detroit into the world of interactive architecture by providing them with a digital foundation from which to grow, through a series of fun and interactive tracks taught by web developers from SapientNitro Detroit. Students discover the latest cutting-edge technologies, learn how to code efficiently, develop stunning websites and create engaging apps.  Students build a clean, professional-looking website based off their favorite animal, utilizing the latest web standards and best practices in the HTML, CSS, JavaScript coding languages.  Their classes are only three weeks long, and they've got another round starting soon.  Check them out at http://www.rhinocoders.com/ or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/rhinocoders Another flashback of some tunes from 1984 later, and segment three was all about Startup Weekend: Pontiac.  We chatted with the organizers, Crystal and Amos, about their event this weekend.  Over the span of 54 hours, you'll get immersed in what it takes to get to a minimum viable product, and you can come at it from just about any angle you want.  Are you a business person with an idea...but no tech skills or design capabilities?  They need you.  Can you sling code, and want to help get something off the ground?  They need you.  Got some design skills that can help make something look slick and clean? They need you.  Get on over to check them out at https://www.facebook.com/startupweekendpontiac and dive in! For segment four, we chatted with one of our favorite people...and not just because we get beer from him...Mark from Falling Down Beer Company.  Their second anniversary event is this weekend, and you should absolutely plan on attending.  From 9am to 11am, they've got a reservations-only brunch going on that, knowing their kitchen, is going to knock your socks off.  Starting at 11am, the doors open to the public, and they'll have 14 taps running with a wide variety of brews available, food, entertainment, they'll be raffling off gift cards, growler fills, and a bunch of other stuff.  Plan on being there.  Check them out at https://www.facebook.com/fallingdownbeer And as mentioned up in the intro, we had to keep things rolling into a fifth segment because we had so much to cover.  We hadn't even talked about our Pink Slip Party last week at The Majestic, or that we're doubling down on events starting in April with an event on Wednesday, April 1st over at Firebird Tavern downtown. So listen to this week's episode, and we'll see you next week. Creation of all kinds benefits from a little creative madness, so whether you are a writer, a painter, or a musician yourself, you won't want to miss this discussion with one of the driving forces of the Metropolitan Detroit area music scene, who is currently going world wide! Detroit native OCTiV Brings the rock & roll arena show to the party. Playing both live and midi guitar, OCTiV performs his own tracks and remixes crowd favorites live on stage. By triggering nearly all of his recorded synthesis with a six string or midi guitar, OCTiV is ushering in a new era for performance-oriented bass music. OCTiV has released singles coast to coast with California label Smashed Beatz and New York-based Hood Famous Music and went on to release “NOTHING TO HIDE” which reached #45 on the Beatport Drum & Bass Charts and coincided with the release of a large scale commercial production music video with Onstar featuring his touch screen guitar and original music. More recently, OCTiV’s single “Fatality” and the subsequent remix EP, featuring Mark Instinct, ForeverKID, and Nerd Rage, heralded his addition to the FiXT lineup while gaining significant positions on Beatport’s Hip Hop, Dubstep, and Drum & Bass charts, hitting #3, #8, and #20 respectively. By pushing the limitations of technology for live performance and live recording capability, OCTiV is leading the charge for a new breed of live electronic musicians and gaining new ground at warp speed. www.facebook.com/octiv www.soundcloud.com/octiv www.twitter.com/octivmusic   Creative Energy in YOU is sponsored by: Pane View Window Cleaning www.paneviewwindowcleaning.com Creating Cloud Nine www.creatingcloudnine.com Jensen's Massage and Holistic Center www.jensensmassageandholisticenter.com

What is creative energy and how does it impact our lives? Can we use it to create change? Open doors? Move mountains? Cheri L. R. Taylor introduces Creative Energy in You with special Guest Sherina Rodriguez! Sherina is the Director and Founder of Obsidian Blues, a Detroit City based Non-Profit Poetry Troupe made up of young people ages 15-21, writing Social Justice themed poetry. Sherina is a writer herself, and has spent a lot of time teaching in schools and workshops with young people in various venues throughout the Metropolitan Detroit area. We will explore the role of creative energy in the writing and performance of poetry and how that energy can affect changes far beyond the simple framing and crafting of words. We’ll also hear from a few young poets, and invite your questions and observations about how creative energy works for you, or how you’d like to make it work for you! http://blushingskywrite.com/
