Sara Margulis shares the best destinations, attractions, excursions, tips, and registry info in this episode. She is the founder and CEO of Honeyfund, so she knows a thing or two about Honeymoons. One of the great parts about Honeyfund is not only regestering for your honeymoon needs, but your nest egg, as well. Sara and I had a fun convo and I learned so much! After your wedding, you simply want to relax with your new spouse and enjoy your newly married life. At times, however, financials feel like they are in the way of allowing you to enjoy wedded bliss. When you register for honeymoon items, or for money toward things like a down payment for a new house, or even a wedding fund. Your wedding registry can be as unique as you are. If you aren't a fine dining host, there is no need to register for China. Most will almost never use it. Its much more useful to register for items that you actually want and need. Old school registries are antiquated and unnecessary. Wouldn't it be great to be gifted the things that you actually want and need? It is absolutely possible, and I'm so grateful to Sara for coming on to break it down for us! On this show host Alison McGill chats with Sara Margulis CEO and co-founder of Honeyfund, the honeymoon registry service which single handedly changed the game of wedding gifting. Sarah launched Honeyfund in 2006 after she and her husband were planning their own dream honeymoon and instead of a setting up a tradition registry, asked their guests to help them achieve their travel goal. To date, over eight hundred million dollars have been gifted through Honeyfund registries. On this show, Sara talks what's trending in honeymoon destinations (for the first time in decades, Hawaii is NOT number one!), and she also shares some insightful stats on marital happiness and how travelling together (and taking that all important inaugural trip as just marrieds) is an integral part of it.
Believe it or not, not all couples who get married go on a honeymoon. Work, financial, and career commitments, among other things cause couples to skip the honeymoon altogether. While you might think that's not a big deal, skipping the honeymoon can actually have a significantly negative affect on your marriage and your relationship. On today's episode, we're talking to a real expert on the topic of honeymoons, paying for the honeymoon, and wedding registries in general. This episode was packed with so many amazing tips from our guest. Like most great business ideas, Honeyfund's big lightbulb moment was born out of something personal, when Sara and her now-ex-husband were planning their honeymoon. They kept running into the same issue: Why wasn't there a crowdfunding wedding registry that catered to couples wanting an experience over household items? So they made their own, which inspired what later became Honeyfund, the number-one honeymoon and wedding registry app. Since its launch in 2006, Honeyfund has funded one million couples, with more than $640 million in gifts from 6 million givers. On this brand-new episode, Sara joins us to share how she made it all happen — and what happens when a partnership breaks up.

Mikkel Paige is a wedding photographer and travel blogger, and she came on the show to give her Top 5 Destination Wedding Tips! They are: Destination Weddings can be Stressful! If you’re getting married and you need to be in control, a destination wedding may not be for you, because there is so much you CANNOT control. Look Closely at your Contracts. A photographer might be included, but is that photographer right for you? And what if it’s not? Can you get a discount off of your package? Review the Laws of your Destination. Are you allowed to get married there? Are there different rules based on the country’s laws on religion or gay marriage? Don’t Forget Sunscreen! If you’re golfing or lounging or drinking or whatever before the wedding, use sunscreen. You don’t want the sunglasses or bikini straps showing in your pictures! Consider the Weather. If you’re getting married on the east coast, a sunset ceremony is probably not going to happen for you. And if it’s windy that day, you can’t force pictures by the beach. On this episode I had the pleasure of speaking with Sara Margulis, co-founder and CEO of Honeyfund and the companion site Plumfund (www.honeyfund.com and www.plumfund.com). Honeyfund began when Sara and her the fiancé Josh were looking for an alternative to a gift registry for their wedding. Instead they wanted so set up a honeymoon registry where their friends and family could gift components of their awesome honeymoon. The site worked, and then, their friends and their friends’ friends all wanted a honeymoon registry page for their weddings. Viola and startup is born. Honeyfund grew organically for a number of years and customers began using the site to fund other needs and charities. To segregate the traffic Sara and Josh launched Plumfund to help fund all of the people and things we love. Both sites were growing nicely but Sara and Josh decided to appeared on ABC’s Shark Tank and wound up receiving offers from three sharks, ultimately striking a deal with Mr. Wonderful himself, Kevin O’Leary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uelp3-lOvD4 Honeyfund is based in the Bay Area town of Sebastopol in the North Bay’s Sonoma County.
