MARCH 23, 2025 THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT REV. KENDRA BALLIET ORGANIST JAMES ROSS Prelude - T'was in the Moon of Winter-Anna Laura Page (Bells) Welcome & Announcements *Call to Worship Leader: Always there is a choice: People: The God of Christ Jesus or those material things for which this world will sell its soul? Leader: We cannot have it both ways. As the prophet Elijah declared long ago: People: How long does it take to make up your mind? If the Lord is God, then follow him. If idols are your gods, then get real and admit. Leader: Our God is greatly to be praised and honored above all worldly gods. People: We will declare our God’s glory among the nations and celebrate God’s love among all created in God’s image. * Opening Hymn – “O God of Every Nation” #435 Opening Prayer God of All, You created us for each other. You set in us a yearning for companionship and an empathy that binds us together, protecting each other and delighting in one another. Yet too often we have broken down our relationships instead of building them up. We have been set against one another with the lie of scarcity. We have built systems and economies that widen the gap of resourcesrather than safeguarding equitable practices. Too many, and growing numbers, are suffering hardships, food insecurity, joblessness. We cannot fathom the proportions of loss and so we look away, sometimes even from the need in our own community. Help us, Healer. Show us our empathy. Forgive our complacence. Move us to move one step at a time toward greater care for one another. In Jesus name. Amen. Children’s Chat Scripture – Matthew 8: 5-13 Pastor: The Word of God for the people of God. People: Thanks be to God Series: Holy Vessels: A Season of Recovery Message: “Safe Keeping” Tithes and Offering Offertory - T'was in the Moon of Winter-A. L. Page (Bells) *Doxology – Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow #94 Prayers of the People - Joys and Concerns *Prayer Hymn – “Near to the Heart of God” #472 Pastoral Prayer & Lord’s Prayer *Closing Hymn – “How Great Thou Art” # 77 Action Steps and Benediction Postlude - Passacaglia-Alfred Fedak This service is recorded and is subject to change upon the movement of the Holy Spirit. Demonstrate the measure of authority we have through Jesus Christ and how to properly exercise this authority.

Jesus acknowledges the faith of a Gentile ... a Roman Centurion ... a Pagan outsider ... and honors his request to heal a favored servant. While the failures of human class and race structure hinder the universality of the Kingdom of Heaven, Jesus shows us in this encounter that race and class do not matter ... only the heart of faith. Jesus responds to the faith of the Centurion who recognized the proper order of authority between himself and Christ. How do you approach our Lord Jesus Christ? Do you acknowledge HIS divine authority? Do you recognize your own unworthiness?
Thank you for listening. We pray the podcast is a blessing to you. Please visit our website www.columbianabaptist.com.
The centurion whose servant was healed reminds us of a healing that we all need.

We believe the Church is to be a place where people are loved, cared for, and experience life to the fullest. We desire to see people get closer to JESUS: for believers to have their relationship with Him get deeper than ever.

Calling myself "unworthy" has been identified by psychologists as being unhealthy. But, calling myself "unworthy" doesn't necessarily mean I am suffering from a poor self image. Sometimes, calling myself "unworthy" is the best way to see myself. (WARNING: Around the 6:45 minute mark, the pastor's iPad accepts a phone call. A loud ringing is heard. We couldn't edit it out. Sorry!)

Two healings take place; one is physical, one is spiritual.
The Centurion asks Jesus to heal his servant.
Why is it so important for a believer to walk in their God-given authority? Because if they don’t, then they are a victim. God has put life and death before us. He instructs us to choose life. It is our choice so that He can reward us and so that we can freely choose Him.
God has already given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness. Jesus restored to us the ability to use our God-given authority to walk in fullness in every area of life. He has authorized us, therefore it is our responsibility to conduct our lives in step with kingdom principles which bring His fullness of blessing.
The Roman Centurion who asked that Jesus to heal his servant had great faith. Faith that Jesus could heal the servant. This faith left Jesus awestruck. Nowhere in Israel had Jesus found such faith
The faith of a centurion 1. He submitted himself to the authority of Christ - He had great respect for the Lord - he had faith in the Lord - God honored his faith Prayer should be our first response, not our last resort

The power we need to bring change into our lives is already inside of us. The conduit of that power is the language of heart felt feelings, not our emotions. It's a matter of the Heart!

Is it time for some great faith?
Matteus 8,5-13. Et vendepunkt i historien.
Faith is learning to take Jesus at his word.
This sermons teaches about the importance of having faith in Jesus in ALL things, and how pleasing it unto and how rewarding it is for us.
I walk more in His authority when I see Jesus in His proper place!
Jesus is the authority and I need to come to Him just like the centurion as a person under authority to see His authority released in my life!
