Things are getting weird this week—and that's saying something. We're joined by the delightfully bizarre minds behind Weird True Crime for a very special guest episode. Together, we form the Roundtable of Weird, where strange dilemmas, dumb criminals, and questionable life choices are always on the menu. Trevin kicks things off with an existential crisis involving his life partner, ChatGPT. Is his unrelenting politeness costing the planet millions in server strain? Will he risk environmental ruin in the name of kindness? Meanwhile, Amanda escorts Lyla to her first karate competition, where she's baffled by the tournament's poker-chip-based economy and baffling logistics. The Weird True Crime duo enters the chat with their own personal weirdness. Amber's husband has become a walking billboard for his job, refusing to wear anything but his work uniform. Gina, on the other hand, keeps forgetting one crucial thing at the grocery store—salt. Weeks of underseasoned food have left her flavor-deprived and full of regret. Then it's time for the main event: a four-person crime story showdown. Trevin and Amanda dig into petty crimes too short for a full episode, while the Weird True Crime crew brings us the finest dumb criminal tales straight outta Texas. You'll hear about: Alex Van Duyn and the mysterious gifts from the Portland Pisser 83-year-old Lillie McClendon weaponizing sausage water A feathery vandal terrorizing Rockport, Massachusetts A mischievous dog embarking on a crime spree in McAllen, Texas Avante Nicholson's drug-dealing Easter/420 promotion campaign Tamain Marquell Williams double-fisting a beer and coffee because he doesn't have time for that Annamae Cabalsa Martinez calling AAA—during a high-speed police chase The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile getting a frank warning in Waukesha, Wisconsin There's a whole lot of dumb, weird, and wonderful packed into this episode. So pull up a chair, grab your beverage of choice, and get ready to join the weirdest roundtable in true crime podcasting. BROWNSVILLE, Texas - The Rio Grande Valley is becoming no different than some of the bigger metros in Texas, says Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation CEO Gilberto Salinas. “Austin-San Antonio is really one big area, Houston is just a huge monster when it comes to people, numbers and cities around it, DFW? DFW is kind of like McAllen-Brownsville. It's becoming that one huge region, one super region. And it takes a SpaceX coming in and then telling us, a region is 100 miles,” Salinas said. Salinas made his remarks in an exclusive interview with Ron Whitlock of Ron Whitlock Reports. The interview took place before Salinas made his highly successful presentation at the Cross Border Industrial Opportunities summit in Monterrey. “Sometimes in Brownsville, we think regional is 20 miles. McAllen, I think it's 30 miles. But it takes a SpaceX, one of the most forward-thinking companies, really in the history the planet, to come and tell us, that no, regional for us is 100 miles,” Salinas told Whitlock. “And that's just from a supplier network to a labor and talent pool, because they (SpaceX) pull from well outside of 100 miles. And again, it goes to show that the Brownsville-McAllen super metro area is becoming a huge draw.” Salinas added: “You know, outside of Texas, all eyes are on this place that we call the Rio Grande Valley.” Asked what the state of industry and the jobs market is currently like Brownsville and Cameron County today, Salinas said: “The state of jobs and industry is like never before. That's the one thing that I have seen since I've come back, the number of projects that we have in the pipeline, the number of leads, the companies that are opening up here. It's different from 10 years ago, even from five years ago,” Salinas said. “And a big fish draws all the big fish… SpaceX, the two LNG plants. There's a refinery plant looking at the Port (of Brownsville), and some other major operations looking at the Port. We have, like, $3 billion in the pipeline just for the Brownsville from the GBIC side. All these companies are coming in as a result of the success of a SpaceX and the LNGs. So those big fish are drawing in other big fish, and that's what's setting us apart from everybody else right now. That level of activity is raising eyebrows across the entire state of Texas.” Asked if there are any big projects in the works that he can talk about, Salinas said: “Well, no different than most other EDOs, we are on the cusp of announcing some major projects. We just cannot disclose those yet. But, between our top 10 projects, we're looking at about $3 billion in capital investment. Hopefully we can announce at least one of those here in the next coming weeks.” Salinas said he likes to call these big projects game changers. “Those projects that we have are, again, what I like to call game changers, very similar to a SpaceX and the LNGs in the energy sector. To everybody's somewhat surprise, it is just going to put Brownsville… Brownsville is already on the map because everything that has happened. But those projects are just going to make that dot on the map bigger.Go to www.riograndeguardian.com to read the latest border news stories and watch the latest news videos.

After decades without justice, Irene Garza's case finally moves forward. Now in his 80s, John Feit is living in Arizona but is extradited to Texas when a grand jury indicts him for Irene's murder. The trial begins in late 2017, and the lead prosecutor on Irene's case brings witnesses forward to paint a picture of what happened the Holy Saturday evening when Feit heard her confession. After two weeks, the jury deliberates for more than seven hours before finding Feit guilty. Snow falls in McAllen, a rare occurrence, as Feit faces his sentencing.
Episode 137 Doe ID: Nora Castillo In June, 1988, a farmer in Baca County, Colorado found skeletonized human remains on his property. Investigators found nothing in the way of identification, and only a 1986 quarter in a pocket. All investigators knew was that they had found the remains of a young woman, who was likely Hispanic, and although a cause of death could not be determined, severe injuries to her legs, and the overall circumstances led police to think that she was the victim of a homicide. Police had no missing persons cases on women in the area that matched their victim, and her case went cold almost immediately. They kept the Jane Doe's remains for years before finally laying her to rest. Over the years, investigators searched databases for DNA links, and frustratingly, a link was missed by the system that could have given Jane Doe her name back sooner. Eventually, genealogy did provide police with their victim's name. It was Nora Castillo, a young mother from McAllen, Texas, who had gone missing in 1986 or 1987 following a string of struggles in her life. Now that police know who their victim is, they still want to find out how she came to be in the farmer's field in 1988, and who put here there. This Jane Doe finally has her name back; it's Nora Castillo, and this is her story. If you have any information about Castillo or this case, please contact the Baca County Sheriff's Office at 719-523-4511 or the McAllen Texas Police Department at 956-681-2221. Linktree: https://linktr.ee/AnalyticIn this segment of Notorious Mass Effect, Analytic Dreamz unpacks the key takeaways from "Me Jalo" by Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera. Originating from San Bernardino, California, Fuerza Regida transitioned from a cover band to a chart-topping act with their unique blend of corridos tumbados, highlighted by collaborations with luminaries like Natanael Cano.

Christians can't live in this world without also being involved in this world. We are told often that "this is not our home," which in an ultimate sense is true, but it is our home now. We live here, we raise families here, we live and move and have our being here. Denying any responsibility and obligation to influence this world with the full effects of the Gospel is not a true biblical outlook. The Bible applies to every area of life but it requires wisdom and discernment. Christians must re-learn how to think biblically. Gary points the way forward in this talk given in McAllen, Texas a few years ago.

A 1,402-acre ranch in Texas may become ground zero for the deportation of criminal illegal aliens. Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, a Republican, spearheaded purchase of the ranch, which is located along the border with Mexico in Starr County between Laredo and McAllen, Texas. Now, Buckingham says, Texas may lease the land to the federal government as a site to process illegal aliens for deportation. She figures President-elect Donald Trump may need it. “We just thought we'd write a letter to [Trump] and say, ... if we can help, we have this property,” she says. Deportations of illegal aliens, especially criminal illegal aliens, was a pillar of Trump's presidential campaign, and Buckingham says she and other leaders in Texas recognize that the incoming Trump administration will “probably need a facility to … relieve the strain on the local jails to get the proper processing before these people are deported.” Tom Homan, Trump's incoming border czar, has indicated he is interested in using the 1,402-acre ranch, a popular crossing point for illegal aliens, as the second Trump administration begins a major effort to secure the border and remove criminals who entered the country illegally. Illegal aliens already have crossed the border into America unlawfully. Generally, "criminal illegal aliens" refers to those who also have been convicted of a crime either in America or in another country. Buckingham joins this episode of “The Daily Signal Podcast” to discuss what will change at the border when Trump returns next month.
