Another book by the man who spit in the face of the House of Un-American Activities Committee (not literally, pretty close). Our love of P.D. Eastman continues. Kate delves real real deep into the marital status of dear Mr. and Mrs. Bird here (including Mr. Bird's "extracurricular activities", if you get my gist). The women discuss how this is like a "very small version of Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds" (their reign of terror is swift and tiny). They wonder about color layering, and finally they get to sing the "Toldja So" song. Show Notes: Is there a podcast called Cake Talk? No, but there is a podcast called Let's Talk Cake. As far as I'm concerned, that's close enough. Listen to it here: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/lets-talk-cake/id1499854971 When standing before HUAC, and told to name names, P.D. Eastman objected and proceeded to say, "The second reason why I decline to answer is that I consider you are bringing me here under subpoena to an unreasonable search and attempt to seize the contents of my mind. I also have an objection to make on the fact that, in a sense, the atmosphere here is one of a trial, and that you have accepted the testimony of witnesses without permitting me to bring witnesses of my own." You can learn more in Forbidden Animation: Censored Cartoons and Blacklisted Animators in America by Karl F. Cohen. The short-lived experiment that is/was the CHAZ in Seattle is just one of three avenues of attack against the Trump administration being pursued in the first Real U.S. Civil War. This is the Black Revolution, cut from the same mold as previous Orange, Violet, Green and Brown revolutions in Eurasia and North Africa. So while the CHAZ will end with a whimper it will also fail falling forward as newly-minted Antifa radicals will be created when the police roll in. We're staring at future powder kegs when the verdicts are handed down for the police officers involved in both George Floyd's and Rayshard Brooks' deaths. And the election will not be decided by votes, but rather protests and the potential is high for a coup orchestrated from the streets of Washington D.C. in the next six to nine months.Show Notes:Is the CHAZ the new Maidan?https://tomluongo.me/2020/06/22/chaz-setup-next-maidan/Black is the New Black in Color Revolutionshttps://tomluongo.me/2020/06/21/black-new-black-in-color-revolutions/Crimea: The Way Back Homehttps://youtu.be/nbGhKfWrfOQ

What is the hard-to-define, touchy-feely idea of empathy and why is it so important?   Business expert Michael Brenner joins us to share how empathy, kindness + self-reflection can save us both professionally and personally.   You will leave today’s conversation understanding how being kind, cool + being yourself is the best path to happiness + success. SHOW NOTES: Is society meaner? A recent University of Michigan study shows a 40 point drop in empathy in the last 20 years. Michael's parents were ultimate examples of empathy and it teaches him to be the same way with his kids. Of his 53 jobs, Michael shares about being let go from one, only to be hired back weeks later.  Bullseye: What's in it for the customer or person we are serving? "Bureaucracy kills good ideas." Break down the walls that divide us by using Michael's Pushback method: Who is this for? What is the impact it's going to create for them? How do we measure it? "Behind every bad idea is an executive that asked for it." "The customer is not always right, but they should always be heard." "Be kind. Be cool. Be you." Microsoft is focusing on a cultural shift to demonstrate more empathy, and it's leading to more innovation. Jørgen Vig Knudstorp turned the fate of Lego around by focusing on the mission rather than profits. "Do you champion your employee's ideas?" Pivot from being the victim: Develop a personal mission statement by asking who are you serving, where is your passion, and how can you measure that result? "We have a choice." Check out the Mean People Suck Companion Guide here, which includes my favorite: the Bullseye organizational chart. Get a copy of Michael Brenner's Mean People Suck here. Did today's episode inspire you?  Listen to Liz Fosslien shares the importance of embracing our emotions, and simple tips to be the best versions of ourselves at work and in life. Listen to ep. 122 here. Hear Andre Norman share his journey from juvie to jail to Harvard and how choosing empathy led him to find forgiveness. Listen to ep. 95 here. MICHAEL BRENNER'S LIVE INSPIRED 7 1. What is the best book you’ve ever read? The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell. 2. What is a characteristic or trait that you possessed as a child that you wish you still exhibited today? Fear. There is a lot to learn from the things we're afraid of. 3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be? A picture of my wife and I walking down the aisle on our wedding day. 4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be? Martin Luther King, Jr. I'm completely inspired by the environment he grew up in, the person he became and the fight that he led with such compassion and empathy. What allowed him to turn what must have been rage into such an effective form of change? 5. What is the best advice you’ve ever received? A piece of paper from my dad's workbench that said, "quityerbellyachin'" 6. What advice would you give your 20-year-old self? It's going to be okay. 7. It’s been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read? Focusing on others is the counterintuitive secret to success. *** Did you enjoy today's episode? Share it with your friends! Then subscribe, rate + review on Apple Podcasts. Tomi Ungerer died just this past year on February 9th so it seemed logical to us that we should try to do one of his books on the show. This begs the inevitable question, which one should we do? After all, there are so many to consider. Crictor? The Beast of Monsieur Racine? Moon Man? We decided to go with the only one Betsy ever saw adapted by Weston Woods. In the course of our talk we discuss whether or not giving birth is an adequate excuse for saying you have a "connection" to someone, who invented the name "blunderbuss", and why this book is like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. Plus, isn't it interesting that all these kids may be attending a robber school by the end of the book? Show Notes: - Is a pepper blower actually a thing? Betsy did a bit of research on her end, and she doesn't think that it is. As far as she is concerned, Ungerer made it up. - "When is there ever a fun aunt?" in a children's book. Okay, people. On this weeks installment of Expanded Perspectives the guys start the show off talking about how a mysterious half-naked 'tribesman' was seen running down a dirt track in Indonesia by a group of bikers. The small man was spotted near Banda Aceh, on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra. Some viewers guessed the man could be a member of the mythical Mante tribe, who are said to be forest dwellers. Then, Lon Stricker over at Phantoms & Monsters recently reported on a very unusual sighting a woman had in Cabell County in West Virginia. According to the witness, this winged creature resembled a giant 4 foot tall Wasp with glowing orange eyes! Then, one of Japan’s biggest tech companies, Rakuten, announced it was forming a joint venture with the American startup AirMap. The goal is to develop a robust traffic management system for unmanned aerial vehicles, allowing large numbers of drones to operate autonomously in the same airspace. After the break Kyle brings up one of Australia's most famous Alien Abduction cases "The Mysterious Disappearance of Frederick Valentich". On the evening of October 21, 1978, a 20-year-old Australian pilot flew a familiar route from Melbourne airport to King Island. From all reports, it wasn’t a difficult one. But for the young Frederick Valentich, whatever happened while flying over the Bass Strait proved fatal. He never came home, and his body was never recovered. Was it an Alien Abduction or simply pilot error? This and much, much more on this weeks episode of Expanded Perspectives! Show Notes: Is this a member of Indonesia's lost pygmy tribe?
