Kirk LaPointe, The Hub's B.C. correspondent, discusses the precarious position of B.C. Conservative leader John Rustad following his leadership review victory. Despite Rustad winning a majority of support, LaPointe explains why, given the small number of people who actually voted across the province's 93 ridings, serious questions about the legitimacy of Rustad's mandate remain. LaPointe also explains the pressure Rustad faces from both moderate and further Right factions within his caucus. The Hub is Canada's fastest growing independent digital news outlet. In this episode we welcome, climate justice and Indigenous rights organizer from Stellat'en First Nation and senior advisor at the David Suzuki Foundation, Janelle Lapointe; member services and movement building manager with Climate Action Network Canada, Lauren Latour and Canada organizer for World Beyond War, Rachel Small. We discuss the Draw the Line National Day of Action taking place across Canada on September 20, the reasons for this historic cross-movement coalition and the urgency of drawing the line now in this moment of converging and overwhelming crises, for people, for peace and for the planet. Speaking to origins of Draw the Line, Latour says: “After years and years and years of communities from across progressive spaces saying, we need to learn how to work together in community. We need to learn how to build coalition. It just felt like this was the perfect opportunity for that.” On the critical need for a coalition, Lapointe says: “We're all waking up to the root cause of the crises, which is imperialism, colonialism, capitalism, and those systems were intentional and systemic and focus on division. And so I think we need to be just as intentional, strategic with our unity. And I think that's what this mobilization is all about.” Reflecting on why we need to Draw the Line now, Small says: “You can't quadruple Canada's military budget without stealing those billions of dollars from everything else and from everyone else … We have to refuse … and instead say, no. Actually Carney, you're gonna need to choose a side … because we are drawing the line.” For more information on the National Day of Action, please visit Draw the Line About today's guests: Janelle Lapointe is a climate justice and Indigenous rights organizer from Stellat'en First Nation. She is currently a senior advisor at the David Suzuki Foundation and a guest on Treaty 13 territory, the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Huron-Wendat peoples, as well as the Mississaugas of the Credit. She leans on her lived experience growing up on her small reserve in Northern British Columbia to ensure that intersectionality is at the forefront of environmental narratives, to build power and help others see their stake in fighting back against the status quo. Lauren Latour works as member services and movement building manager for Climate Action Network Canada, the farthest-reaching network of organizations taking action on climate and energy issues in the land currently called Canada. Currently based on unceded Anishinaabe Algonquin land in Ottawa, Lauren draws on over a decade of experience in progressive spaces as she works to support the climate movement from behind - emphasizing efficacy, and forefronting a justice-based approach. Rachel Small works as the Canada organizer for World BEYOND War, a global grassroots organisation and network working to abolish war and the military industrial complex, is a founding member of the Jews Say No to Genocide Coalition, and coordinates the Arms Embargo Now campaign. She has done grassroots organizing within local and international social/environmental justice movements for nearly two decades, with a special focus on working in solidarity with communities harmed by Canadian extractive industry projects. In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, when 343 members made the Supreme Sacrifice, the FDNY grappled with the unimaginable loss of life while at the same time rebuilding its decimated Department. Processes were in place to handle line of duty deaths, but not for this unthinkable number of members. In the days, months and even years that followed, the FDNY faced the enormous challenge of grieving, honoring their fallen and their families, and beginning the long path to recovery. During this time, the Department's Ceremonial Unit took on a critical role—not only helping to manage hundreds of funerals and memorials, but donation ceremonies and tributes were a constant for many years. As a department, the FDNY always honors and remembers their fallen heroes. Post-9/11, the Ceremonial Unit rose to this challenging occasion, which is unmatched in the history of the fire service. The intention being—to honor our fallen, support their families on their darkest day in a dignified, fitting tradition. Host Elizabeth Cascio sits down with two key players from those early days—First Deputy Commissioner Mark Guerra and Lieutenant Joe LaPointe—to hear how they responded on September 11th and how, while the Department was healing and rebuilding, the Ceremonial Unit attended multiple funerals and memorials daily—the most being 25 in one day.

Christian Zyp interviewed Tanya Lapointe in 2020 about the documentary THE PAPER MAN (Lafortune en Papier). The film examines the creativity and career of Claude Lafortune, who needed nothing more than glue, paper and scissors to create his famous characters, from Van Gogh to Louis XIV. Claude was a visual artist who made a lasting impression on countless children as the host of the television shows "Parcelles de Soleil" and "L'Évangile en Papier". This touching documentary does justice to a man with a big heart who believed in inclusiveness and was very popular with Quebec audiences, but who struggled to earn his peers' recognition.Tanya Lapointe is a Canadian filmmaker and former journalist. Her debut as a documentary filmmaker, 50/50, was broadcast by Radio-Canada in 2018, and examined the gender gap between men and women in society. She began working with Denis Villeneuve on ARRIVAL and BLADE RUNNER 2049. That lead to becoming a an Oscar nominated producer on DUNE: PART ONE and DUNE: PART TWO. Her next project will be as a producer on the next installment of Amazon's James Bond franchine.

She advocates for the need to create a nurturing environment that fosters emotional intelligence and resilience in children, while also addressing the importance of boundaries and open communication about topics like sexuality. Nick LaPointe started throwing pots about 25 years ago at Santa Barbara City College and has been doing pottery ever since. Like many potters, Nick fell in love with the process of throwing and creating handmade art immediately. And about 6 years ago Nick started carving wood grains into his mugs experimenting with designs and ideas, working with other potters on collaborations, and throwing as much as he could! It's been an amazing journey up to now and he can't wait to see what the future brings! https://ThePottersCast.com/1144

At Wellington Heights Community Church, we believe that God's transforming and abundant love is revealed through the lived experiences of His people. Through our Stories Among Us series, we are intentionally offering individuals the creative freedom to share their unique journeys of embodying peace, justice, reconciliation, and hope. We trust each storyteller to speak from their heart, aligned with the spirit of the Good News and the mission of our community. Their voices will help us see more clearly how God is at work among us, inviting us all to live more fully into the resurrection life. May these stories awaken us to the beauty of the Way of God breaking in and inspire us to join with courage and joy in the stories unfolding around us.Scripture Focus for Stories Among Us: Ephesians 1:15-2315 Since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, this is the reason that 16 I don't stop giving thanks to God for you when I remember you in my prayers. 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, will give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation that makes God known to you. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart will have enough light to see what is the hope of God's call, what is the richness of God's glorious inheritance among believers, 19 and what is the overwhelming greatness of God's power that is working among us believers. This power is conferred by the energy of God's powerful strength. 20 God's power was at work in Christ when God raised him from the dead and sat him at God's right side in the heavens, 21 far above every ruler and authority and power and angelic power, any power that might be named not only now but in the future. 22 God put everything under Christ's feet and made him head of everything in the church, 23 which is his body. His body, the church, is the fullness of Christ, who fills everything in every way.

“Clutter is not just the stuff on your floor – it's anything that stands between you and the life you want to be living.” ~ Peter Walsh, Professional Organizer Guest Introduction: Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life: Travel Edition. I'm Cindy MacMillan, your host and the owner of Pangea World Travel Agency, a boutique agency located on the Space Coast of Florida. Today, we're diving into the art of organization with a professional organizer. If you've ever felt overwhelmed trying to get your home or office in order before a trip, you're in the right place. This episode is all about simple, realistic steps to streamline your packing, manage travel documents, and tackle those ever-growing pre-trip to-do lists. From personal essentials to business priorities, you'll come away with actionable tips to help you feel prepared, focused, and stress-free for your next journey. I'm delighted to introduce Adele LaPointe, whose thoughtful approach to organization transforms even the most daunting tasks into achievable goals. Let's dive in! Adele is a Professional Organizer and Author. Her business Chaos to Clarity has been teaching overwhelmed people to create organized systems that help them see clarity in their lives for 20 years. Adele is still very passionate about helping people because she has personally seen how being organized can be life-changing. She likes to share that she was her first client. Having gone through many different challenges she knows how life's situations can create chaos in our lives. With experience, creativity and a non-judgmental approach Adele loves the challenge of creating systems and environments that work for her clients in their homes and offices. In Adele's book, Get Organized for Life 7 Steps to Take You From Chaos to C.L.A.R.I.T.Y, she teaches her process on how she assesses her clients' situations and comes up with effective solutions. Here's a glimpse of our conversation: Welcome to the podcast Adele. 2:48 I like lists because they help clear my mind—they're a simple way to "dump" everything onto paper (or a device). I don't know about you, but when I have things to do, my mind keeps running in circles. Did I remember everything? Did I forget something? That's why having a list is so helpful. Once it's written down, it's out of your head, and all you have to do is refer back to it. A list can take any form—a note on your phone, a voice memo, a sticky note, or even a scrap of paper. Whatever works best for you to stay organized and at ease. 3:25 Before you go on a trip, one of the best things you can do is create a designated space for everything you'll need. I've helped many clients who feel overwhelmed, saying, "I need to go on a trip, but I don't know where to start, and I'm too busy." My advice? Choose one spot—whether it's an open suitcase, a spare room, a couch, or a chair—and make it your travel prep area. As you go about your routine, start placing everything you'll need for your trip there. For example, do your laundry a week or two before you leave. Pick out the clothes you want to bring, make sure they're clean and folded, and place them in your designated spot. This simple habit keeps you organized and reduces last-minute stress. 9:16 I always suggest to my clients that if there are certain travel essentials—like your favorite neck pillow, special headphones, or anything else you love to have on a flight—pack them in advance. Keep these items in a small bag or container inside your suitcase. That way, when you open your suitcase, everything is already together, ready to go. You won't have to scramble at the last minute or repurchase something at the airport just because you forgot where you put it. 13:18 I hear this a lot in home organization, though it applies just as well to travel. How many times do we say, "I'll take care of that when I get back," or "I'll deal with it once I move?" If you find yourself thinking, "I'm too busy; I'll just do it later," try to pause and ask, "Can I take a few minutes to do this now?" Taking care of small tasks before you leave means you'll come home to less stress and a smoother transition back into daily life. 18:52 Organization is really just about keeping similar things together. Even in a hotel room, I like the idea of having a designated technology area—one spot where everyone plugs in their phones, laptops, and other electronics. This helps avoid the common scenario where you charge your phone next to the bed, grab it in the morning, and go about your day—only to realize later that you left behind a charger or another device. Creating a central charging station keeps everything in one place and makes it easier to pack up when it's time to leave. Chris La Tray didn’t grow up understanding that he was Indigenous. In fact, his father actively avoided the story. But as he got older, La Tray began to uncover the roots of his Indigenous identity. His book, “Becoming Little Shell,” follows his journey to understanding his place as a Métis storyteller, a descendent of the Pembina Band of the mighty Red River of the North, and an enrolled member of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians. In this episode, we chat with human rights advocate, singer, storyteller, and University of Minnesota-Twin Cities American Studies doctoral student Wakinyan LaPointe. Wakinyan, a Sicangu (Burnt Thigh) Lakota citizen of the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, focuses his studies on Indigenous rights, human rights, and youth organizing. He describes how his work with Indigenous young people, Indigenous people across the globe, and water scholars has informed his understanding of how to generate a sustainable future. One strategy he shares is the deepening of Indigenous youth's relationship with their ancestral waterways, which has shown to improve water and land health. For Wakinyan, having his parents share stories and cultural traditions with him during his childhood – spent in Washington, California, and the Rosebud reservation before landing in Minneapolis – was foundational to his understanding of self and the world. Today, Wakinyan uses these teachings and those embedded within the songs he sings to reclaim his time from the “weeds of academia” and establish a healthy grounding to his days. Tune in for an engaging conversation with one of today's most vibrant, Indigenous artist scholars!

Millionaire Miami developer dead amid murder for hire allegations #SergioPino #TatianaPino #MurderforHire Before he shot himself in the bedroom of his waterfront Coral Gables mansion Tuesday, prominent South Florida builder and developer Sergio Pino was about to be arrested for soliciting multiple attempts by several individuals to murder his wife before their contentious and lucrative divorce became final, according to federal law enforcement officials. Nine people are now in custody in connection with what the FBI agent in charge called “two murder crews” Pino hired and ordered to carry out the murder of his wife, Tatiana, who filed for divorce in April 2022. “He decided he was going to kill his wife,” said U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe at a news conference Wednesday, citing an attempted poisoning with fentanyl, stalking and a botched attempt to injure her with a rented flatbed truck as she drove home from a divorce court hearing in August 2023. But it was in June 2024 when “hitmen” who were alleged to be paid $300,000 followed Tatiana home, where one of them got out of his vehicle armed with a firearm, and chased the car she was driving, but was unsuccessful because Tatiana made it into her home, Lapointe said.
