In this episode we WadeOutThere with Chelsey Christy, from Denver, Colorado. Chelsey started fly fishing on Colorado's South Platte River and immediately caught the fly fishing bug. She was spending so much time fly fishing and in her local fly shop, that they asked her to start guiding. Chelsey soon began searching for a way to connect with nature and the river on her own, further from some of the pressured waters of the front range. Her searching took her to Southwestern Colorado's many mountain creeks and streams that she now enjoys exploring and fishing on her time away from guiding. Chelsey is also an artist, and balances her time between guiding and painting. She has made several fishy designs for Colorado Trout Hunters Guide Service, where she also guides. We discuss the importance of your local guide shop when starting out, tips and tactics for high mountain creeks in Southwest Colorado, and how Christy embraces the beauty she finds in nature through her paintings. In today's episode I had the pleasure of talking with Aaron Boike about his 2021 Ouray 100 Endurance Run finish. We talk about many things including Aaron's key takeaways from his 2021 finish, details of the course, mindset, technique, foot care and a whole lot more. The Ouray 100 is a one hundred mile endurance run in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado. With almost 84,000 feet of elevation change at an average elevation over 10,200 feet, it is regarded by many as the most difficult 100 miler in the world. Aaron is the only person I know that has both finished the Ouray 100 and coached someone to a finish. I look forward to Aaron helping get me to the start line prepared to be one of the few Minnesotans to finish the Ouray 100. Hear how the idea for Kristy's novel originated from a ten-year old TV show, how the goal to write a novel came to her in a dream, and how her female protagonist refused the ending Kristy had planned for her and insisted on a different path. Colorado consumers could see prescription drug prices drop dramatically according to backers of a freshly signed bill. The bill expands an existing program that allows medications to be imported from Canada. Governor Jared Polis signed Senate Bill 123 on Monday. This new law allows prescription drug imports from more countries. Senator Don Coram, who sponsored the Bill, said that the costs of drugs in Colorado are extremely high compared to some of the other states. This will be a way for people to save a lot of money. For example, Coram pointed to a drug for hepatitis-C that costs nearly $100,000 for a 12-week treatment. The same drug might cost around $2,000 in India. Senate Bill 123, builds on the importation program established under 2019 legislation - Senate Bill 5. The measure signed Monday allows the department to expand this program to manufacturers, wholesale distributors and pharmacies in nations other than Canada. As a next step the state health care policy and financing department will be submitting information about the would-be exporters. That information will include an evaluation of the exporting nation's regulatory system. It needs to demonstrate that the exporting nation's systems are as stringent as the FDA's. If those conditions are met, it'll all move forward. And this new law comes with bipartisan support. At the signing, called it landmark legislation that he expects to see replicated nationwide. Visit our full story for more details - at www.montrosepress.com - Finally, the Boot Stomp is back! Mark your calendars. The San Juan Healthcare Foundation will invite the community to “stomp on cancer” once again. They've just announced the third annual Boot Stomp event to benefit patients at the San Juan Cancer Center. The event be Saturday, June 5, from 5 until 10 p.m. The fundraising event will have a barbecue and barn dance for anyone who attends. Everyone's encouraged to dress cowboy casual and enjoy live music by Narrow Gauge Country. There will even be a live auction and raffle. The event raises funds for the non-profit San Juan Cancer Center in Montrose and its patients. In the first two years, the annual Boot Stomp event raised $50,000. And the Cancer Center needs the support: since 2016, it has experienced a 28% growth in services resulting in more patients with needs. Cancer is an awful disease, and its impacts are life-changing for those who are diagnosed with cancer and their family members. To address the impacts of cancer in our community, the San Juan Cancer Center opened its doors on April 3, 2006. They provide complete cancer care close to home for residents of a large seven county area in Southwestern Colorado. Tickets are $60 and you can get them online at www.bootstompmontrose.com or at The Liquor Store next to Walmart in Montrose. See you there! That's all for today, thank you for listening! We recorded this interview before David had to cancel this tour due to restrictions surrounding Covid-19.David Starr possesses “a compelling voice, something truly special, both accessible and passionate” (Elmore), that has been honed releasing nine albums, touring internationally, and opening shows for esteemed artists such as John Oates (Hall & Oates), Karla Bonoff, The Steel Wheels, Survivor, and more.Beauty And Ruin, Starr's latest project, is a musical and literary adventure, produced and arranged by John Oates and co-produced by himself and David Kalmusky. The collection of songs was inspired by Of What Was, Nothing Is Left, a novel written by his grandfather in 1972. “It is like watching a movie,” says Oates. "The cinematic aural landscape visually evokes a classic tale of tragedy, love gone wrong and an exploration of human nature and all its flaws." Beauty and Ruin and a new edition of Of What Was, Nothing Is Left are set for release in February 2020.“A collection of beautiful, poetic and somewhat sad songs with a warm and organic production that draws you in and wraps around your heart,” writes Americana Highways of Starr's 2018 record, South and West. The record follows an acclaimed EP, The Head and Heart, also produced by John Oates, and the full-length Love and Sabotage with special guests like John Oates, Richie Furay, Dana Cooper, and Steve Cropper.Starr's prestige extends beyond the stage as well, having launched Starr's Guitars in Little Rock in 1998, then relocating to Cedaredge in 2001. Today, the store is such an institution that Cedaredge proclaimed the musician's birthday as David Starr Day in 2016. Starr was also instrumental in the 2018 opening of the Grand Mesa Arts Center, an intimate event space brought to fruition through strong community support in Cedaredge, CO. He helped design the space in order to attract musicians and visual artists to Southwestern Colorado.Starr says of his upcoming Beauty And Ruin project, “This project is important to me for several reasons. There's the family connection through my grandfather's book, the songs that were born out of his story and the intensely collaborative nature of the whole project. I can't wait to share it with the world!”-Text from of David's websiteWebsite- https://www.davidstarrmusic.comFacebook- https://www.facebook.com/DavidStarrMusic/Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/davidstarrmusic/Spotify- https://open.spotify.com/artist/6PJuDsfOF3dpzVpdrUIRw1?si=xFavLr5RQ2S_xvosa_5_SgHavilah will be hosting these events on her own since David Starr will not be coming to Washington.
