Support this podcasthttps://www.patreon.com/drumwithmikeandeddyCreating a drum fill that connects with everyone, not just drummers, is tough. Creating a signature fill that becomes iconic for an entire generation? That's damn near impossible. In this week's episode, Eddy and I break down how to think about the song first instead of worrying about what other drummers might think. We talk about musical responsibility, writing “hooks” on the drums, and how to craft fills that actually elevate the music instead of cluttering it.And yes… somewhere along the way we also dive into the global matcha shortage (because, of course we do). LOL. Enjoy - Mike JSupport the show
Support this podcasthttps://www.patreon.com/drumwithmikeandeddyIn this episode of DRUM with Mike & Eddy, we dive into something every drummer and musician deals with but rarely talks about: the gap between who you are on the kit when you're alone and who you are when it really counts—on stage, in the studio, at a clinic, or even just filming content for social media. We start with life on tour, questionable hotel hygiene, and why the perception of “rockstar life” is hilariously different from the reality of chasing a decent bathtub and clean sheets. From there, we get into the real heart of it: nerves, imposter syndrome, and why playing in front of drummers feels so different than playing for a regular audience.Eddy shares how arenas, drum shows, and that Busted drum feature with Harry can be a mental challenge, and I talk about why recording sessions and drum clinics have historically been the biggest mental battles for me. We break down the idea of closing the gap through reps, preparation, accepting that you'll always feel a little different in high-pressure situations, and understanding your role in every musical setting. If you've ever thought, “Why can't I play like I do at home when it matters most?”, this one's for you.Take a screenshot while you're listening, throw it in your stories, and tag us @mikeslessons and @eddythrower so we know you're out there hanging with us!Support the show

Ballots are arriving ahead of the November 4 election, and Denverites are weighing Mayor Mike Johnston's big proposal of the year — the “Vibrant Denver” bond. It would represent almost $1 billion in new debt to fund infrastructure projects across the city, but will voters see a future of possibilities? Or will they swayed by the mayor's growing chorus of critics? Host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi sit down with Mayor Johnston to talk about the recent outrage over his extension of Flock surveillance contracts, his handling of the budget, and why he bought the Denver Pavilions mall on 16th Street. Paul referenced our interview with Fire Department Chief Desmond Fulton, “Why Firefighters Are Getting Raises When the City Is Doing Layoffs.” The mayor said that his proposed budgets for the fire and police departments were “mostly flat, but according to Axios Denver the mayor's proposed police budget for 2026 is up 2% to $281 million and according to our reporting his proposed fire budget is up about 1%, or $1.2 million, to $158,081,466. The mayor mentioned a police officer who was shot protecting a migrant shelter. Per Paul's question about the criteria the mayor gave to Flock for any contract extension, the mayor's office shared this press release because the contract itself is still being reviewed by the city's attorneys. What do you think about the mayor's defense of his contracts with Flock? After an agonising last-minute equaliser in Monaco (with a fair bit of controversy thrown in), David Mooney is joined by City fan Dan Burke and, from Sporting News, Dom Farrell, to discuss Manchester City's victory over Burnley and their draw in the Champions League. Did the scorelines of each game tell the whole story? Possibly not. Erling Haaland's brace against Burnley made him the Premier League's top-scoring Norwegian, so we take a look at all of the other players that have played City who are their country's leading marksman in the top flight (and we discuss some of our favourite goals by them). Then, as City travel to Brentford, before the international break, we hear from Mike Johnston from The Ealing Road podcast to find out about their start to the season - plus we look ahead to the match and what we want to see from Pep Guardiola's side. We also take some time out to mention some awful refereeing decisions from the past, plus look at Bernardo Silva's pre-match comments about his future.
Coming Down the Pipe... [0:00] - The intro for Season 21 of The Pipeline Show [1:14] - Guy has a preseason WHL trade, some scores, the Listener Question of the Week and the guest list. [16:52] - Mike Johnston is the General Manager of the Portland Winterhawks, a team that you can always count on to be entertaining and competitive. This year will be no different. A great look inside from an executive that has been around junior hockey for decades. [44:31] - We stick in the U.S. Division for a deep dive on a real wild card club this year; the Wenatchee Wild. General Manager Bliss Littler introduces fans to a lot of new names as the club looks to take a new step forward in its 3rd WHL campaign. [1:10:27] - The Kelowna Rockets are going to try and pull of a rarity; to go from last place to not just reach the playoffs, but to the top of the WHL standings. They aren't going to be happy with just qualifying for the Memorial Cup as hosts because they want to win it. A monumental task to say the least but Owner and General Manager Bruce Hamilton has a plan and shares some of it with us. [1:39:25] - Closing out this episode this week is Chad Leslie, the GM of the Swift Current Broncos. The team is clearly embracing a youth movement but call it a retool and not a rebuild. Does it matter? Let's learn more about this talented but young roster.

After blowing out the Denver city budget housing the homeless and providing refuge for illegal aliens, Mayor Mike Johnston announces the anticipated layoffs of city employees will begin in mid-August. Dan breaks down why these workers don't seem to matter to 'Diamond Mike.'
At the halfway point of his four-year term, Mayor Mike Johnston is facing some big challenges. He's made a lot of progress on his work to end unsheltered homelessness in Denver and overseen reductions in violent crime, but as he himself said in his State of the City speech last week, the work is far from finished. Johnston returns for his regular sit-down with host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi to talk about the criticism he's facing from some of his strongest allies, as well as his plans to convert office space downtown, how much he's willing to support the Broncos' new stadium project, and what he'd say if Michael Bennet becomes governor and offers him a vacant senate seat. Mike Johnston marks the halfway point in his four-year term as mayor this week, and some of his campaign's biggest supporters are now big mad. The bike community, in particular, has been buzzing about the mayor's decision to remove some bike lane infrastructure, so host Bree Davies and producer Paul Karolyi are looking at how his recent comments around the issue compare to his promises on the campaign trail. Plus, a bike safety campaign takes over Wash Park, an anonymous city staffer shares a comment on a recent episode, and Bree has feelings to share about her recent trip to Lakeside Amusement Park. Do you have a question for Mayor Johnston? He's scheduled to be on the show soon, and we want to know what you think we should ask him about! In a sitdown interview with Kyle Clark of 9 News, Denver mayor Mike Johnston makes no apologies for spending $250 million on temporary housing for homeless and access to services for illegal aliens in the city. Instead, he defers blame to the Trump administration pulling federal funding and on tariffs imposed by President Trump overseas. He also speaks of creating 'moments of joy' on 16th Street and in the downtown vicinity. How does he plan to go about doing that?

Solutions include reducing building costs, incentivizing new construction, and taking better advantage of the metro region's extensive light rail network for transit-oriented development.
Dan unloads on meek, mousy so-called 'mayor' Mike Johnston after the man who promised a 'Tiananmen Square moment' for ICE officers looking to deport Denver illegals surrenders to a violent mob of teenagers planning to plague City Park on Saturday, forcing the Denver Zoo to close several hours early at 1pm to avoid any chance of violence for patrons and the animals.
