La Corte Electoral confirmó ayer haber recibido una comunicación del Partido Nacional, en cuanto a que el ex intendente de Artigas, Pablo Caram, y la ex diputada Valentina Dos Santos “no están autorizados a utilizar” ese lema para ser candidatos en las próximas elecciones departamentales. La comunicación en realidad fue enviada en julio del año pasado, pero por un “problema técnico” la Corte la recibió recién el pasado 10 de enero, y se la transmitió a todas las juntas electorales. Caram y Dos Santos no podrán ser candidatos a ningún cargo electivo por el Partido Nacional. Dado que la ex diputada participó en las internas nacionalistas de junio del año pasado, tampoco podría serlo por otro partido. Sí podrían, eventualmente, ocupar cargos de confianza. Ambos fueron procesados por delitos vinculados al reciente caso del pago irregular de horas extras en la Intendencia de Artigas. Artigas Adelante, el sector de Caram y Dos Santos, afirmó en tanto que “seguirá batallando” para que la ex diputada sea candidata en el Partido Nacional. El dirigente y edil departamental Miguel Giménez le dijo a La Diaria que se analiza pedir una reunión al Directorio y, si es necesario, salir a juntar firmas para lograrlo. Según Giménez, en Artigas “el pueblo pide” que Dos Santos sea candidata. Dijo que la exdiputada nacionalista “es una trabajadora incansable” y afirmó que “no robó a nadie”. She has officiated at the very top level, including in the 2024 Elite 8 game featuring LSU and Iowa, the most watched women's basketball game in history! She has also officiated in the Conference USA championship, Big 10 conference playoffs, Big 10 final, SEC conference playoffs, WNIT final, WBIT quarterfinal and final. In the episode, Natasha shares with host Elizabeth Emery about how she prepares for games, nerves, cute interactions with players, and how things have changed in the fourteen years she's been oficiating. Beyond her own officiating career, Natasha is helping others grow in the profession. She founded and runs Referee Ready Academy, a holistic referee development training program. In January 2024 she was announced as an investor for the Cape Town Tigers, a South African basketball club belonging to The Basketball Africa League (BAL); founded by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA); making her one of the first African American women to do so. El próximo 27 de octubre la ciudadanía va a decidir en un plebiscito si se habilitan los allanamientos nocturnos en hogares, lo que implicaría eliminar una prohibición que figura en la Constitución desde 1830. Hasta ahora el artículo 11 de la Constitución dice lo siguiente: “El hogar es un sagrado inviolable. De noche nadie podrá entrar en él sin consentimiento de su jefe, y de día, sólo de orden expresa de Juez competente, por escrito y en los casos determinados por la ley.” La papeleta de la reforma da una nueva redacción a ese artículo en la que se elimina las referencias al día y la noche: Dice: “El hogar es un sagrado inviolable. Nadie podrá entrar en él sin el consentimiento de su morador, o por orden expresa y fundada de juez competente, dictada por escrito en los casos y formas establecidas por la ley.” El debate en torno a este tema viene creciendo en la campaña electoral. El oficialismo está saliendo en defensa de la reforma. Sostiene, entre otros argumentos, que es una herramienta que va a mejorar el combate al narcotráfico. Mientras tanto, el Frente Amplio se ha posicionado en contra aduciendo que la reforma "supone una desprotección de los hogares sin una propuesta explícita de regulación que posibilite un uso adecuado de la herramienta”. En el mismo sentido se ha pronunciado el comisario general retirado Mario Layera, que fue Director de Nacional de Policía en la pasada administración. Pablo Caram renunció ayer a su cargo de intendente de Artigas, luego de que la Corte Electoral lo inhabilitara para ejercer cargos públicos y para presentarse cómo candidato a cargos electivos, a raíz de la condena que recibió en la causa por el pago fraudulento de horas extras en aquella comuna. La Corte Electoral, inhabilitó además a la exdiputada y sobrina del intendente, Valentina Dos Santos, que la semana pasada fue también condenada en la misma causa. Dos Santos tenía previsto asumir como intendenta en lugar de Caram, que iba a dedicarse a hacer campaña por la diputación. Como Dos Santos tampoco puede asumir, la intendencia quedará a cargo de la dirigente Elita Volpi. Ayer de noche la Junta Departamental de Artigas se reunió para aceptar las renuncias de Caram y Dos Santos. Las dimisiones fueron aprobadas con 20 votos en 31 posibles. Se abstuvieron los dos ediles del Partido Colorado, los seis del Frente Amplio y dos del Partido Nacional, que argumentaron que las renuncias no tenían sentido, al entender que Caram y dos Santos “ya no tienen ciudadanía", y por lo tanto, “no pueden ejercer ningún cargo público”. La Corte Electoral entendió que Caram y dos Santos están inhabilitados para ejercer cargos públicos y ser candidatos a cargos electivos porque el artículo 80 de la Constitución suspende la ciudadanía a quienes tienen una sentencia con pena de prisión o penitenciaría. El ministro José Garchitorena dijo ayer que la inhabilitación fue resuelta por unanimidad. El jerarca explicó que los implicados no podrán apelar la decisión y deberán esperar a que se cumpla el plazo de la condena para quedar habilitados. En el caso de Pablo Caram, que tenía intenciones de ser candidato a diputado, no podrá postularse porque su condena es por 14 meses. Técnicamente, dos Santos sí podrá ser candidata a intendenta ya que su condena finaliza en enero de 2025 y las hojas de votación para la elección departamental- que se realizará en mayo- deben ser registradas antes del 10 de abril de ese año. Horas antes de que la Corte Electoral se pronunciara, el candidato presidencial del Partido Nacional, Álvaro Delgado, declaró que le había pedido a Caram que dejara el cargo de intendente. Hablando con la prensa, Delgado aseguró que también le pidió a Caram que tampoco se postulara a una banca en la Cámara de Diputados. El senador herrerista Luis Alberto Heber advirtió ayer que su sector “va a estar mirando” lo que resuelvan la Comisión de Ética y el Directorio del Partido Nacional. En el acto por el 151 aniversario del nacimiento de Luis Alberto de Herrera, Heber dijo: “en estos momentos”, cuando “el partido, por la acción de unos pocos, pueda sentirse herido, lo que tenemos que hacer es actuar bien”. Y enfatizó: “Es lo que nos distingue de otros partidos”. “Esta situación que estamos padeciendo, para el Partido Nacional es una verdadera vergüenza. La acción que han tenido el intendente y la diputada han sido vergonzosas para el honor y el orgullo del Partido Nacional”. Heber agregó que el Partido Nacional está frente a un hecho “novedoso” en la medida que los implicados “no proclaman su inocencia”. Estamos frente a personas que admiten su culpabilidad” en sede judicial, recalcó el senador. Heber dijo que un intendente o un diputado representa la más alta investidura que una persona puede tener en un departamento y apuntó: “hay que honrarla, servirla y respetarla”. Liz Camy ran her first marathon in 2007 in 4:08, and she hated it. Fast forward to 2024, she is now a 2:42 marathoner and, at age 40, will be running the 2024 Boston Marathon in the Professional Women's Field. In this episode, Liz shares her 25-year running journey--from high school and collegiate runner to masters runner-- including how she has been able to continue improving her times while balancing family and career (she is a military spouse, mom of two, and a full-time assistant principal with a doctoral degree in organizational leadership). Liz, who is coached by Esther Atkins of McKirdy Trained, also shares the highs and lows of her running trajectory, including a harrowing 2020 Olympic Marathon Trials experience and managing her training during her husband's multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. El senador nacionalista Carlos Camy anunció ayer que llegó a las firmas necesarias para plebisicitar en las elecciones de octubre del año que viene una reforma constitucional para habilitar los allanamientos nocturnos. La iniciativa de Camy se ampara en el artículo 331 de la constitución que exige, como uno de los mecanismos para reformar la carta magna, que se reúna la voluntad de dos quintos del total de componentes de la Asamblea General. El senador precisaba conseguir la firma de 52 diputados y senadores pero finalmente consiguió 71 rúbricas. Su iniciativa fue apoyada sólo por legisladores de la coalición de gobierno y el diputado del Partido Ecologista Radical Intransigente (PERI), César Vega. En rueda de prensa, Camy dijo que su proyecto es “doblemente garantista”. Según explicó el senador, si se aprueba su reforma, se habilitarán los allanamientos nocturnos con orden expresa del juez a través de la Constitución y luego se aprobará una ley que establezca los límites y las garantías del procedimiento de allanamiento. “Lo que estamos haciendo es quitar el candado que tiene la disposición constticuional de que en la noche no se puede proceder por parte de la justicia y la policía aun existiendo la evidencia de la comisión de delitos. Los legisladores del Frente Amplio no firmaron la iniciativa de Camy. El diputado Sebastián Valdomir señaló que el tema ya fue saldado por la ciudadanía, puesto que en las pasadas elecciones se sometió a votación popular la reforma Vivir sin Miedo, que entre sus puntos habilitaba los allanamientos nocturnos, y no prosperó. Valdomir opinó que la propuesta “se plantea ahora porque [la coalición] no le encontró la vuelta a la crisis de seguridad en el país”.
