Description:*Trigger Warning* This episode mentions sexual abuse and listener discretion is advised. On today's episode of Embracing Your Season, Paige is joined by author Ben Locke. Ben's story is one of deep pain, frustration, and wrestling with God ultimately leading to an unexpected outlet for his suffering. Ben's book, In Our Suffering, Lord Be Near, is a raw, vulnerable, and poetic image of the truth that we will have trouble in this world but that God is with us every step of the way. This episode is a powerful reminder that suffering is part of the fallen world we live in and that when we surrender our pain to God, He will always use it for our good. Paige's Takeaways:Focus on the positives in a season of sufferingGod will always use the pain and the suffering - and He will never abandon usSuffering can lead to blessings, intimacy, and a deeper relationship with the LordDon't always take away adversity or the negative circumstances that our kids are going through - in actuality, it can lead them to more maturity, a deeper relationship with God, and depth of characterSuffering is not linearRemember that in the hardest moments, we are never alone. God is always with us and we have the gift of community.Give yourself graceWhile suffering, lean into GodHe knows what's going on, but when we tell Him how we are actually feeling (frustrated, angry, disappointed) and process it with Him - we realize we are not alone, and He will meet us where we are. Resources:Paige ClingenpeelQuestions About the Podcast? Dr. Benjamin Ritter sees in others what they can't yet see in themselves, which is what we love about his work. So we invited Dr. Ritter to join us and discuss his book, Becoming Fearless, because we believe that everyone should feel in control of their business journey and find joy along the way. This book is a reflection of his work with CEOs, founders and senior leaders where he has helped individuals move from self-doubt to self-mastery - in fact he cites 65 ways that anyone can do this. His guidance to his clients places a strong emphasis on skill development in effective communication, performance management, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance to prevent toxic relationships and turnover. He knows that leaders who learn to tone down the fear and amp up the confidence move further faster on the quest for success. Highlights of our conversation: - To rise up one needs to break free from limiting beliefs and create a career aligned with true desires. - You must be your greatest champion and learn to take active control of your path and your time. - Great leaders understand the role leadership presence plays and they seek to fine tune this skill for their benefit. - Note only does the CEO's vision shape the culture, engagement, and success of the organization, but their level of confidence and self-mastery supports buy-in and engagement from others. - Credibility and reliability are critical - teams must ‘see' their leader as the expert and have trust in them. - Fearless leaders empower employees, support their professional growth, give them control over their careers and motivate them to contribute effectively. - Executive coaching benefits leaders by providing a safe space for personal development, working on leadership brand and vision, improving self-doubt, building positive relationships and operating in that fearless zone. Dr. Benjamin Ritter, founder of Live For Yourself (LFY) Consulting and author of Becoming Fearless is an international leadership and career coach, Sr. Talent Management Consultant, Top LinkedIn Voice, global speaker, and host of The Executive, and the Live Fearlessly Podcast. Ben has coached over 500 leaders with a strong focus on senior level executives across multiple industries and geographic regions, within organizations that varied in scale from 50 to over 250,000 employees, and have included names such as, Amazon, Coursera, Doordash, Google, Fiserv, Northwestern, Pinterest, Yelp, and more. Although success and failure are antonyms, in practice, they are complementary. In any endeavor, failing is the most logical way to reach success. The truth is that accomplishing something we want badly has more to do with the will to succeed than how and how many times we fail at trying. In this MVP episode, we discuss radical commitment, the only tool we need to go through, manage, and conquer anything we put our minds into. We analyze the power of radical commitment, go through the four steps to choosing it to be our opt-out to failure, and learn how to put failure in perspective and change our perceptions about it. In addition, we explore and understand why sometimes it is so hard to commit to something. In This Episode:What is radical commitment, and how can it serve us to reach our goals What are the three main reasons why we have a hard time committing to somethingWould you do something knowing you'd fail a thousand times before succeeding? The importance of picturing a possible path for us Burn the ships! Setting ourselves for success The true meaning of committing. We also touch on how the zero-sum game mindset affects our sentimental, professional, and personal lives and what are the most effective motivators to reach our goals. In addition, Clayton shares a powerful framework to transform external mile markers into internal ones by celebrating small victories and focusing on the path behind us. “People pleasing brings a ton of limitations and really gets in the way of us being able to create adult relationships where there's vulnerability, authenticity, transparency, and a resilience in the connection where both people can be seen and actually loved,” explains co-host Clayton Olson. If you have a tendency toward people pleasing, you are likely not being your authentic self and may even be struggling to find your tribe. Truthfully, it takes a lot of inner work to reverse the childhood conditioning that reinforces people pleasing behaviors, but it is worth it to build better relationships. In this MVP episode, co-host Clayton Olson and I talk about why people pleasing exists and how to stop people pleasing and start forming more authentic relationships. When we are children, we rely on the relationship with our caregivers for everything. This means that we tend to learn pretty quickly that it works in our favor to try to please them. However, this type of relationship is very unbalanced and doesn't work in adulthood. If we constantly try to please everyone, we can never show our true selves. And instead of attracting our tribe, we will attract the tribe that fits the false self that we created to please others. In order to stop people pleasing and start living authentically, we must figure out what our own principles are and stick to them. People pleasing can be a really problematic tendency for many people because it is a survival technique we learn in childhood. Even though people pleasing may seem harmless, it tends to lead to resentment, poor boundaries, and inauthentic relationships. Let go of fear and step into alignment with the wisdom of your Higher Self. In today's episode, co-host Clayton Olson returns for a conversation with Ben Easter about recognizing the difference between intuitive choice making and ego. Learn how to tune out insecurity and tune into wisdom, love, and connection. Being in touch with your true intuition allows for conscious decision making where your actions are aligned with your purpose and core values. A few tips to help guide your path to unveiling your Higher Self:Liberation exists on the other side of ego. Let go of the ego's need for control and transform your life with the freedom that comes from embracing uncertainty.Remember that insecurity can often mask itself as intuition. Ask yourself, what about this emotion or thought is important to you. What would love, connection, and wisdom do in this situation? If you are under-resourced, you may have a more difficult time accessing your intuition. Be sure to take care of yourself, get enough sleep, eat and hydrate before making any major decisions.Consider which path will result in putting more of your own values into the world around you. If the decision is coming from your Higher Self, it will inherently be in alignment with your core values. Freedom is waiting right on the other side of fear! Shift your mindset to recognize the difference between thoughts and feelings that are driven by insecurity and those that are truly coming from intuition. Quotes“Insecurity can pose as intuition.” (2:02-2:06 | Clayton)“It's not like the intuition writes you an email, and it's signed - your intuition. It's not that clear.” (7:34-7:41 | Ben) “Oftentimes, my intuition over time will continue to say the same message to me.” (9:48-9:54 | Clayton)“When I have excessive self referencing around a decision, it's often insecurity versus intuition.” (15:09-15:18 | Clayton)“Orienting to my higher self can oftentimes be a process of removing what's in the way versus actually adding something.” (26:13-26:23 | Clayton)“If I'm trying to control something, it's usually not my intuition. My intuition is usually going to have me continue to forge into the dark forest with a torch on an exploration versus trying to stay in the familiar.” (34:46-35:01 |Clayton)LinksConnect with Clayton:Website: https://claytonolsoncoaching.com/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCtKW9swe4-j596iCIh2_nrA LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/claytonrolson/ IG: https://www.instagram.com/claytonolsoncoaching/Connect with Ben:Website: https://lucidshiftcoaching.com/Lucid Shift Coaching IG: https://www.instagram.com/lucid_shift_coaching/Project Candlelight: https://airtable.com/shr5p0P2793RtRk2kPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast.
