In today's episode, Heather Johnson Durocher and I continue our deep-dive into the world of midlife transitions with a special focus on identity, career changes, and maintaining friendships during this transformative period. Our conversation kicked off with a reflection on how midlife is a time for re-evaluation and asking ourselves critical questions about what we truly want out of life. We discussed the importance of staying true to oneself and the challenges and opportunities that come with changing careers in midlife.A significant part of our discussion was dedicated to the complexities of midlife friendships. We explored how these relationships evolve and sometimes become challenging as we navigate through different life stages. The conversation was enriched by personal anecdotes and insights, making it feel like a heart-to-heart between two friends.Additionally, we touched on the creative pursuits that often become a focal point in midlife. I shared my excitement about the upcoming projects and expansions at the School of Midlife, including luxury retreats and a new field trip program. To wrap up, we reflected on the liberating aspects of reaching midlife, such as gaining a clearer sense of self and feeling more secure in our identities and choices. We concluded with a reminder of the importance of not waiting for the perfect moment to pursue our dreams, emphasizing that midlife can be the best time to embrace new challenges and opportunities.Thank you for tuning in, and I hope this discussion inspires you to make midlife your best life. John Oates has been at this for a while. Ever since his family moved from New York to a small town outside of Philly in the early 1950s, he has been feverishly creating American roots music, blues, rock n roll and unabashed pop. After teaming up with his Temple college mate Daryl Hall at the dawn of the 1970s - Oates co-created a mind-melting run of funky rock-pop hits that still play on constant radio rotation: 21 albums, ten of them number one records which sold over 80 million units. It's not a shock to see that Hall & Oates are technically the most successful duo in modern music history. But Oates' half a dozen solo records are quite underrated (look to the stripped back Arkansas to see what I mean ), and with the new LP Reunion dropping this week, we see him sonically rejuvenated, leaning into his love of early 20th century acoustic music and how his family history formed who he is today. For this listener and songwriter - getting to dive into how “Maneater”, “She's Gone”, “You Make My Dreams” was quite a thrill, but I was also moved at how generous Oates was towards the young artists he gets to work with (Sierra Hull for one) and how he has reacted to the fractious relationship with his former co-creator Daryl Hall with a sense of zen, even as the tabloids spin yarns of their many years in the making “breakup”. While playing arenas may be in his past, Oates is excited to play intimate shows telling the humble stories on Reunion like “This Field Is Mine” which he teamed up with beloved mandolinist Sam Bush.
In this episode we're exploring the differences between going it alone, getting the support and guidance you need, and what I call “seeking savior”.If you're anything like me and the women who come to me for help, you've likely tried to figure things out on your own when it comes to your health and fitness. You've probably tried different diet fads or trends, workout programs, supplements, etc. with varying degrees of success, but because nothing was ever tailored to you and your life, they didn't help long-term.A large majority of people who come to me have tried to figure out nutrition and fitness on their own, only to end up overwhelmed, confused, and burnt out by all the information out there.Today I'm sharing how to get the support and guidance you need without sacrificing your autonomy. We'll talk about the importance of self-trust, how to build it, what to do when challenges arise, and what to look for when seeking out professional support.Interested in working with Jeannie? It's the pipe dream that we, and our faith, can flourish apart from Christ. Jesus used the example of branches on a grapevine. He said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. Remain in me, and I will remain in you. ” And then He points out, “No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.” Why? Because God is the source of our life and salvation. In these weeks following Easter, it's good for us to hear these words. Abiding in Christ, or remaining Christ, reminds us that we can never “go it alone” when it comes to our new life in Him. In order to understand why the righteous shall live by faith, you need to understand the dilemma that all humanity faces. The first group facing peril are those who want to go it alone without God from Romans 1:18-32.
This Sunday Pastor David shares a message entitled, "Things That Get In The Way: Going It Alone!" Have you ever heard someone say, “I can worship God on my own. I don't need other people!” I have. Even though this may be spoken with a deep conviction, it is not Biblical. It raises the question: "Do we need to be involved with other Christians in a local church in order to effectively serve God? After all, salvation is an individual decision. Why afterwards must we involve other people? What's wrong with flying solo?" This message will address those questions and show how the life of the believer was never intended to be a "Going It Alone Faith!"You will not want to miss this wonderful service.
Are you homeschooling on your own and wish you had a community of believers to do life with? Do you desire deep relationships but have not found them in your neighborhood, or even at your church? Are your kids feeling isolated and settling for hanging out with kids just because they are in the neighborhood, but not because they are good friends? In this episode, we want to explore what you should find in a Christian homeschool community. And if something like this doesn't exist near you, rest assured you are not the only one who is looking for it! Maybe you are being called to start something so that you and your children can thrive in your homeschooling! Hebrews 10: 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Tonight, we'll read another excerpt from “Woodcraft” published by George Washington Sears, under the pen name "Nessmuk." Sears was a writer and adventurer who penned essays on hunting, fishing, and camping for popular journals and magazines. This chapter is called “A Ten Day's Trip in the Wilderness- Going It Alone.” At 40 years old, Sears served in the Civil War. Five years later he traveled up the Amazon River in Brazil. At the age of 59, a little more than 5 feet tall, weighing less than 105 pounds, and weak with tuberculosis, Sears decided to see if the Adirondack lakes and forests could improve his health. Only then is when his experiences (and plentiful writings) as an Old Adirondack Woodsman began. — read by 'N' — Sign up for Snoozecast+ to get expanded, ad-free access by going to snoozecast.com/plus! Josephine Baran is currently the Director of Outward Bound Canada's Training Academy for Outdoor Professionals which is seeking to create access and training opportunities for groups that have been traditionally under-represented in the outdoor industry. She fell in love with Canada's natural spaces when she moved here as a teenager and firmly believes we are the best version of ourselves when we are outdoors. She led the National Community team for Mountain Equipment Co-op which had the largest series of races in Canada and is happiest when she is running the trails with her dogs, paddling at her cabin in Northern Ontario or snowboarding in the Rockies. About the Training Academy The Training Academy has two levels of fully funded programming, that we are able to offer at no cost to our participants; the Foundations and Essentials level. Foundations offers 6 days of workshops with a strong focus on growing outdoor technical skills and building comfort in the outdoors. There is a 5 day outdoor journey option also. It truly is about creating access for groups and communities that have been traditionally under-represented. The Essentials program offers 10 days of workshops that focuses on a broad range of topics like mental health first aid, trauma informed outdoor leadership and more. It also provides four days of technical training at a basecamp workshop and a ten day outdoor journey. This level readies participants to enter the outdoor industry with the skills to work with the diverse and evolving needs of our population. “The morning Lilly joined us in camp, he had come on foot through the thick woods, followed by his two dogs, and had neither eaten nor drunk for twenty-four hours; for he did not like to drink the swamp water,” said Roosevelt. “It had rained hard throughout the night and he had no shelter, no rubber coat, nothing but the clothes he was wearing and the ground was too wet for him to lie on, so he perched in a crooked tree in the beating rain, much as if he had been a wild turkey.” - Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States, describing his first meeting with hound-hunting legend Ben Lilly. Our guest this week typifies the Ben Lilly persona as much as any modern-day hunter in existence. A single man, a man that hunts his pack of Treeing Walker coonhounds bear and coon on foot in the rugged environs of southwest Virginia, and a man that hunts alone. Frequent guest Kesten Jessee introduced Steve to Adam Barnhart and the result is this interesting episode that we've sub-titled, Going It Alone. If you've wondered how Lily was able to travel the great southwest on foot, enduring incredible hardship in following his hounds, this episode will provide some insight. Although armed with modern electronics to aide in following the hounds, which is considerably better than Lily's method of tying a hound to his belt to provide direction, the mere suggestion of bear hunting alone as does Barnhart, should pique the interest of anyone that has hunted bears with hounds under today's considerably better conditions.

In this episode, Pastor Harris will continue his sermon series entitled, “Impediments to Personal Success.” In this series, he is pointed out how the great people of faith guaranteed their successes by their attitudes. Pastor Harris will be addressing what he calls a Lone Ranger mentality, one he considers to be a great impediment to succeeding. So, in this message Pastor Harris will focus on a man who exemplifies a totally different attitude toward life, a man Pastor refers to as being “a team player.” This man is known to us as Nehemiah. From ancient times, the cities located in the Middle East were surrounded by stone walls with gates erected for the protection of the people. The important men of each city would gather at these gates to conduct the business of the city, share important information, or just pass the time of day. Unfortunately, the walls, gates, and the streets of the city of Jerusalem had been totally destroyed by King Nebuchadnezzar the Great in the year 586 BC. There was no place to meet. When Nehemiah was told of the state of the Holy City he immediately asked permission to rebuild its walls. As he was leaving Babylon, he met some Arab men who mocked him for what he was about to do. Nehemiah 2:20 records his statement, which stands even today as a testament to who has the right to the city known as Jerusalem: Nehemiah rights this:“I answered them by saying, ‘The God of heaven will give us success. We his servants will start rebuilding, but as for you, you have no share in Jerusalem or any claim or historic right to it.'”The key to this statement is the pronouns. Nehemiah always spoke of “we,” not “me.” He was no Lone Ranger; he was a team player, as we shall see in this message.
On this episode, Melissa and Amron get serious and talk about just how hard it can be to glow up. Do you need a "team" or a support system to glow up? Or to become your best self only something that you can only do alone? Tap in as we stay real about mental health and how going it alone may work for some and not for others.
It's deep. Yessir. But my brain wouldn't let me write about anything else this week. Bottom line - there are lots of reasons why we don't ask for help when we need it. There are even lots of things that could happen if we don't ask for help. But there's only one way to ask for the help and it goes like this..."Can you help me?"You think it's better to go it alone? Trust me, there are NO awards or rewards for doing things all by yourself.Link in the bio. I promise to be lighter handed next week. I think. I hope.LLM

For many of us, we've learned that depending upon others is a recipe for disappointment. I'm going to cut right to the chase. If you're attempting something great – building and growing a business, creating content, working through relationship drama, raising kids, tackling personal projects – you need support. Period. And not getting the help you need can make the difference between living a life you love and one you despise. Somewhere along the way, many of us adopted the notion that the self-made man is the gold standard, the ideal, that our success will be sweeter if we go it alone. This is a big flawed premise. There is no such thing as a self-made man. Or woman (just to be clear.) Did you make the device you're reading this on? Did you cut the trees to get the wood to construct your house? Did you build your car or manufacture your stove? Did you make your shoes? I'm willing to bet no. We get support in a million ways to live and function in the world. Why do we shoot ourselves in the foot by resisting support when it comes to reaching our goals? This sometimes happens among my clients who have already invested in my services. Their impulse to “go it alone” overrides what makes sense: to take advantage of the resources at their disposal. The go-it-alone tendency can manifest in multiple ways: Feeling embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help Feeling not worthy to use another person's time Not wanting to take up air space in group coaching sessions Feeling hesitant about bringing negative energy or doubts into a group coaching session Missing appointments Not sharing your ideas and strategies so that others can provide feedback But here is what I have observed. The fastest way to get from here to there is to put yourself in a supportive environment. Everyone needs support from time to time. Everyone. And encouragement, external resources, and feedback can be the difference between reaching your goals or not. Or it could be the difference between reaching your goals gracefully or exhaustedly. There are no extra points for going-it-alone or being depleted. None. But there is a lot of extra that comes with a supportive environment. There are shared resources, shared energy, encouragement, the give-and-take of receiving and providing feedback. I am here to support you. Not to make decisions for you or to run your business. That's your thing. But if you could benefit from support – and can't we all? – then, I am here for you. From the podcast to Revolution to NLP Sales School to Momentum Maker and Soulful Business with NLP Facebook group, I've got many ways for you to plug in and get the support you need. We all benefit when we share our challenges, expertise, and solutions. Join in! Get and give the support we all need. We can do this together! Thanks for listening! In this sermon, we will hear a needed reminder from God's Word that we cannot go through life alone. Fortunately, for believers, we have a Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who is much better than trying to go it alone. Hebrews 4:14-16 will tell us why. As you prepare for the message, please read the passage and ask yourself, “Why is it a bad idea to try to go through life alone? How can Jesus help me in my daily life?”
A Sassy Little Podcast for Getting Over It with Sandra Ann Miller
This ep marks the end of the first year of A Sassy Little Podcast for Getting Over It. Thanks so much for being a part of it! Much gratitude to all of the wonderful, smart, generous, kind and insightful guests we've had. This week, it's a solo ep with Sandra, talking about going it alone. That means more than walking away from a relationship, blazing your own trail or even standing up for yourself. It's about being comfortable in your own skin and being connected to the core of who you are. That requires giving yourself time alone. Is that something you do? How do you respond when you see someone dining alone? Would you/do you go out on your own? Creative/sensitive people likely need more time alone to recharge. The joy of being alone in public. The fear of being alone. Craving connection. Long distance relationships. The difference between being lonely and alone. Being in the moment. Being comfortable with who you are. Tending your garden. Self-love and self-care. Creating time for yourself. Making yourself a priority. Let yourself have what you desire and deserve. Standing up for yourself and what you believe in. Keep apathy and inaction at bay. How going it alone actually leads to connection. On this episode of Porch Beers, Trog turns the tables and asks questions about the consumer experience in retail stores; how are brick and mortar stores set up and why, how do companies identify different consumer archetypes and how do they interact differently with each one. He also asks about the franchise business model, who it is good for, what do you get, and does it make financial sense in the long run. Porch Beers is a series of casual episodes, where Brett and Trog ask each other questions that they haven't heard prior to the conversation. Like most conversations they have over a beer, conversations are informal but focused on their respective areas of expertise. Thanks for listening, please leave a review and let us know what you think! Have a wonderful day!
