In this hour of The Patrick Madrid Show, Patrick explores thought-provoking discussions on faith, tradition, and spirituality. He examines the nuances of the sign of the cross after receiving Holy Communion and clears up misconceptions about religion versus a personal relationship with Christ. He also addresses practical issues like usury and its implications in today's society. Plus, Patrick engages in a thoughtful conversation about the role of charismatic movements in personal faith journeys. Mark (email) - During our First Communion training, which was given by nuns who taught at our school, we were all taught to never make the sign of the cross after receiving Holy Communion and to always take Communion in the hand. (00:26) Steve - What is the difference between a relationship with Christ and religion? (04:38) Alex - Paul says, 'lift up holy hands without conflict'. Why can't we lift our hands at Mass? (13:05) Thomas - What is the sin of Usury? Is this grave? (17:39) Lilly - What is the issue with the charismatic renewal? (31:38) Amber - Sign of peace - Covid helped us because now we aren't forced to shake hands with everyone, which was sometimes awkward or painful. (38:20) Michael - We don't have a penitential act at my parish (45:25)

It's hogs all the way down this week as we're joined by Alex Paul, guitarist in Girih and design and manufacturing brain behind Robot Graves Industries. You might think we talk about aluminum guitar necks, but we get too busy asking the hogline about their favorite Electro Harmonix pedals, then dive deep on Alex's favorite: the HOG Harmonic Octave Generator V1. We talk about the utility of six footswitches vs a suite of MIDI functionality, and the je ne sais quoi of sound quality across pedal versions. We also talk a lot about what it means to perform music, and the way technology can both help and hinder the interaction between artist and audience.Check out Robot Graves: https://robotgraves.com/Listen to Girih: https://girih.bandcamp.com/Buy Old Blood pedals: http://www.oldbloodnoise.comJoin the conversation in Discord: https://discord.com/invite/PhpA5MbN5uFollow us on the socials: @robotgraves, @oldbloodnoise, @andyothling, @danfromdsfLeave us a voicemail at 505-633-4647!

Join us for a delightful 4 way conversation with these two lawyers/authors/entrepreneurs/venture capitalists, with a fresh take on on the Power of Perspective, the powerful life lessons of failing and trying again, the key ingredients of meaningful mentoring, and the importance of how we show up in every role, relationship, or project. In this series, we've investigated the pressures around water in Colorado – from climate change to population growth to different values – and how they shape the management of this vital resource. But where do we go from here? And how do we change the relationship we've had with water historically, to better reflect the realities of our future? Because we should all care about where our water comes from, where it goes, what it's used for, and the true cost to use it. When people learn that 91% of Colorado's water is used for agricultural purposes, farmers are the first to blame for its overuse. But there's a lot more baked into this figure than many realize. There are compromises that farmers are making, trying to ensure they are in the black financially while adapting to drought and a changing climate, in order to ensure we all eat. So as Colorado approaches 6 million people with most of us living in the Front Range are people aware of the sacrifices needed to keep up with the growing demand for water? This is episode three of Water, Under Pressure, a podcast about the increasing demands on water in Colorado. And how the choices we make now could tear us apart or help us to navigate our uncertain future. Learn more about the podcast and people featured at waterunderpressure.org. One of the most controversial pieces of real estate in the San Luis Valley isn't because of anything it's got above ground, but because of the water below it. Water is needed for all living things to survive. It can also be controlled and has been by civilizations for millennia. So how is it decided where the water goes and what it can be used for? In order to understand this, we must understand how water rights work. This is episode two of Water, Under Pressure, a podcast about the increasing demands on water in Colorado. A 40-year-old calculation on the back of an envelope fuels something of a gold rush in Colorado's San Luis Valley. But instead of gold, the attraction is water. And the plan is to move it and sell it to Colorado's growing – and thirsty – metro areas on the Front Range. But how much water is there really? And how do we decide who gets it and who doesn't? This is episode one of Water Under Pressure, a podcast about the increasing demands on water in Colorado. And how the choices we make now could tear us apart or help us to navigate our uncertain future. Learn more about the podcast at waterunderpressure.org. At 16, she has more life experience than many adults having lived through that harrowing day where a former student went into Parkland School with a gun and opened fire. Alex Paul experienced it all first hand developing PTSD, anxiety, depression and an eating disorder. She has come out stronger and with wisdom beyond her years. She shows us that our strength and determination, with support and the right tools can help us conquer these debilitating mental illnesses and injuries and that even in the dark, there is always hope. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
We talked with Alex Paul from the band Birds of Play who reside in Colorado. They played a show at the Firefly Lounge in Bellingham on January 24th and the interview was for a spot on KMRE radio. We talk about how they became to be and featured a few of their tunes. From their website-Birds of Play is a musical collaboration born from a mutual love of desert canyons, raging rivers, rocky mountaintops, and juice picnics. After many years of gatherings that have revolved around adventuring by day and playing tunes around campfires by night, the time has come for the birds to leave the nest and share their music with the worldWith a dynamic mix of sentimentality and playfulness, Birds of Play's original music will take you on a joyous journey filled with tales of love lost and found, ballads of wild places, and the radical idea that being happy for no reason at all is reason enough.Add in a smattering of bird calls and crowd-inclusive banter and an evening with Birds of Play will surely leave you feeling all the feelings and wanting more.Influences include the Wood Brothers, Gregory Alan Isakov, Mandolin Orange, and so so many more.Website- https://birdsofplaymusic.comFacebook- https://www.facebook.com/birdsofplaymusic/Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/birdsofplaymusic/

This podcast was a lot of fun for me as I got to interview a terrific friend of mine. We were both firefighters in the military at the same base in Cold Lake, and we had a lot of fun times together. I'm so proud of the accomplishments he has done so far. My idea of creating this podcast is to get more people active who are still serving,(fire, police, ems, military) and it doesn't have to be "working out in the gym" For Alex, his mindset just changed and he did a complete 360! Find out how. We also talk about his passion towards MMA and our military firefighting days. It's an episode you don't want to miss. Check it out!
