Bradford Loomis grew up in the Washington State. His style is one of our favorites! From his website:Playing 355 shows in two years, while also releasing a Christmas EP (Wintering Heart) and a live album (Live at the Red Clay Foundry), has taken him far and wide in his travels and given him some insights. “I feel strongly the duality of the artist. On one hand, I am compelled to speak about what I see and have experienced. But, I also feel the pull to speak about how things could be.” he says. “In my experience there is so much more that we agree about than what divides us. I think people sometimes just need help seeing hope.”In his new album Where the Light Ends, Bradford balances that duality with a masterful grace. Lyrically, he speaks of the raw reality of the human condition with passion, sharing tales that are shaped by grief and longing colored by wistfulness and regret, but are lifted by enduring hope, humility and love.Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6ynkLJzBc8Mzyuk6hWyTRC?si=5OSt7xpVTHq-dh6Gj-iZWAFaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/bradfordloomismusicInstagram: http://instagram.com/bradfordloomisYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCladgR_grbPRCI4jsU5_ZhQWebsite: https://www.bradfordloomis.com

Mike Simmons is on to talk about his new EP “Ruby”. We play all the songs and talk about his music career. From his website- Alternative Rock singer/songwriter Mike Simmons began writing songs and poems when he was a down-and-out kid looking for ways to make money. Writing was the first to catch for Simmons and he began reading his poems to homeless kids on the street and dancers on the late shift at a strip club where his friends worked. This led to meeting a group of musicians one night who recognized Simmons' ability to create and urged him to take writing and music more seriously. In the years since, Simmons has developed into an emotive songwriter and creator, playing his own music, as well as curating the creation of others across the country in venues ranging from clubs and halls to adult video stores. His writing ability and melodic instincts quickly drew notice from emerging producers who hired him to groom the artists they were recording. During this period, Simmons began drifting into the fine arts and contemporary subculture communities in Cambridge and New York. His writing, both in prose and song began to explore the thin line between the gritty life he had arrived in and the glamorous one that was beginning to embrace him in the evenings. This tension followed him to Los Angeles culminating in Simmons' debut album Sunburn, a ten-song effort tracked in two days that narrates Simmons' early days on the west coast. Sunburn sings of days spent with the almost-stars of the new LA and nights spent with the more familiar junkies, prostitutes, and other street people if only, according to the ones around Simmons, because they slept as infrequently as he did.As of 2020, Simmons can be found mostly in a small studio in Seattle, releasing underground albums in The Voyeur Room and editing poetry and free format fiction for writers between trips across the country checking in on artists he continues to help shape. A rumored sophomore full length release “Defamed” has potential to release in winter 2021 with early comparisons to a sun soaked Psychedelic Furs, Laurel Canyon rock meeting Ride in the best way possible, and a Sub Pop record, if Sub Pop started in LA in the 70's and took more acid and ketamine. Simmons and his seemingly constant grip on "cool" continues to prove he is one the most important emerging songwriters and artists currently working anywhere today. The rare ability to recognize things with true staying power, sometimes before they appear to happen, makes everything that catches Simmons ear exciting to watch come into fruition-Saint JohnFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/officialmikesimmons/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/officialmikesimmons/Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/73M1O2jponQ6zcpAkVCzxx?si=icWd1iBwSh2DgMjhTCZMXwWebsite: https://mikesimmonsmusic.com

They also received help from his son Case who recorded and mixed the track and from their respective daughters Anastasia, Amaris and Nikko who filmed the video at Joshua Tree. Then came the quarantine. Thinking that he could now check the box “write and record a song” off of his bucket list, Steve decided to flip Scott for real and wanted to do more. The exchange played out like a scene from the Usual Suspects…Is there a problem? One job. That was the deal. One job? One job! That's a good one, Scott. Stop being such a tough guy McMahon! It took one day with McMahon nagging him, and they went back to work.Looks like this is turning out to be not a one job / song deal. So they started trading lyrics and sonic idea files from their own places of quarantine and began cooking up tunes. They bugged other friends to contribute tracks. In this episode, Our PNW Music talks with Whatcom County's J.P. Falcon Grady (of The J.P. Falcon Band). J.P., originally from the Blackfeet Nation out of Browning MT, tells us about his life growing up in with his unconditionally loving and supportive adoptive family, but not always finding the same in others from outside of his home. He talks about how his family always made sure he was educated about his Native American heritage and kept that ingrained in him. J.P. moved around fairly often due to his dad's profession, a college professor who taught electrical engineering at Montana State University, Purdue University and Arizona State University. The Grady family eventually moved to Whatcom County when J.P. was in high school and was immediately embraced by the Lummi Nation where he finally felt welcome and accepted by people outside of his Immediate family.Do you want to know what the first song was that J.P. taught himself to play on the guitar? Or what movie taught him to sing? Or why he tends to drift off when you're having dinner with him in a restaurant? Or what animal was messing with him one quiet night on Lummi Point? All these questions are answered in this podcast. While we love all of our interviews, J.P. definitely stands out as a favorite. An amazing songwriter, an amazing musician and an amazing human being. We are so lucky to have J.P. Falcon Grady here in the NW. On this episode of Our PNW Music podcast we talk to Skagit County native, Cory Vincent (The Cory Vincent Group, Josey Wails, The Troy Fair Band). In the summer of 2018, Cory decided to leave his day job and become a solo musician full time. He is one of the, if not THE, hardest working musicians in the PNW right now; often playing 3 or more shows every week (pre-COVID shutdown).Cory is definitely a triple threat. He has an incredibly smokey blues timbre that can bounce effortlessly between a smooth Motown sound to a gravely blues rock style reminiscent of the late, great Gregg Allman. His deep, sometimes intense, rhythmic guitar playing is a perfect blend of straight blues rock that will bring to mind all the rock icons. And his lyricist style is powerful and concise, yet always evolving.Make sure you follow Cory's social media pages so you will get notified of upcoming live streams .... and hopefully some in person performances in the near future.Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/cory.vincent.589Instagram: https://instagram.com/coryvincentofficial?igshid=1bfrsspt5f9k6website: https://coryvmusic.com

This episode of Our PNW Music is the debut of The Stepdads, a duo made up of childhood friends Jack Mattingly (Jack Mattingly & Whiskey Fever, Bare Feet, Bad Chuck) and Dusty Claybo (The Last Resort, Bad Chuck). This is the second music collaboration that Jack and Dusty have created; the first being Bad Chuck, which was a venture born when they were in high school and lasted until they were in their early 20's.The Stepdads episode is about a friendship that is nearly three decades in the making. With our world enveloped in a pandemic, division and protesting centuries of inequality and injustices, Jack and Dusty embody the innocence of childhood friendship, playing guitars in the back yard with the fur babies and spending free time in the woods instead of in front of a TV. Listen while they entertain us with stories from when they were in 4th grade all the way up to present time; you'll laugh and cry (from laughing so hard). The music centerpiece of this episode is a song called “The Roaring 20's” that Jack wrote on January 2nd, 2020 after spending a few celebratory days with his BFF, Dusty. The song was a take off from the ‘roaring' 1920's and meant to be a hopeful outlook into the 2020's. Listening to the song now, it derives a sort of eerie, prophetic sentiment. The song is brilliantly written and has an all encompassing melody that will have you reaching for the repeat button each time the song ends. If you have never heard a Jack Mattingly song, “The Roaring 20's” is a perfect representation of his incredible artistic talent. As far as the Our PNW Music co-hosts are concerned .... all roads lead to Jack

With the “stay at home order” in place, Our PNW Music podcast had to get creative in order to bring you the best of the Pacific Northwest musicians. With most of the country hunkering down at home due to the COVID-19 virus, it got us thinking .... or maybe remembering.... there used to be a time, before music streaming services and mixed tapes, where we would listen to a FULL vinyl album (and 8-tracks/cassettes/CD's). In the words of Shane Gildnes from Fanny Alger, it was a time “that provided for the ability to not listen to music as a background activity, but it was actually THE activity”. Now, when so many people have this extra time on their hands, it's a great opportunity to go back and revisit the “lost art of deep listening”. On “Listening To Albums Again II” we spoke with Dennis Dorgan (New Brother, Whiskey Fever) and Chuck Dingée (The Walrus, Free Harmony)Dennis Dorgan recounts how the “Commit This To Memory” album by Motion City Soundtrack helped him deal with the suicide of his brother; listening to other narratives helped him consider other prospectives. “Reconstruction Site” by The Weakerthans helped pull him through his own suicidal feelings.Chuck Dingée spoke about his love of concept albums, starting with Pink Floyd's “Dark Side Of The Moon”; where there was very little space between the songs because it was made to be listened to as one whole piece. Other concept albums that Chuck dives into are: “Twelve Dreams Of Dr Sardonicus” by Spirit, “It's A Beautiful Day” by It's A Beautiful Day and “Abbey Road” and “Sargent Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” by The Beatles.Do you have any albums that you've listened to over and over from beginning to end? If so, let us know. We're always anxious to add to our own collections.

Really too bad she had to cancel this tour, but she will be back! From her website-To experience a Caitlin Jemma performance is to witness an artist blossoming in real time. Her sound fills the room with an assertion that remains open to all that it encounters, and each song is a living, growing entity that reflects the melding of a myriad of influences. Her versatility emerges through an honest exploration of her art, and her identity remains steady as she traverses the musical spectrum of soul, country, and mystical folk.As an artist, she runs away from nothing: the wild stands alongside the polished, the intimate beside the far-reaching. At the heart of each song is a story: one we all live, relate to, celebrate and mourn… stories told with transparency that ignites the imagination of the lands she's traveled and the people she's gathered as her own.Whether as a solo act or with her band, Jemma is constantly examining her work from every angle, while maintaining the raw emotion that provides the bedrock of both her songwriting and performance. While music increasingly scoffs at the genres and labels one might try to slap on it, Jemma embraces the melding of a myriad of influences that inform her work. Rather than trying to drive her songs toward a destination, she sustains the courage to follow them and discover what they need to be. From the position of the audience, we get to watch, to feel, and ultimately contribute to where the path leads.Website- https://www.caitlinjemma.com/Facebook- https://www.facebook.com/caitlinjemma/Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/caitlinjemma/Spotify- https://open.spotify.com/artist/4HoLKkz2xfqo7LaveUkFkI?si=3G-Hu3XCTiuxsmEUU1Y7nA

The collection of songs was inspired by Of What Was, Nothing Is Left, a novel written by his grandfather in 1972. “It is like watching a movie,” says Oates. "The cinematic aural landscape visually evokes a classic tale of tragedy, love gone wrong and an exploration of human nature and all its flaws." Beauty and Ruin and a new edition of Of What Was, Nothing Is Left are set for release in February 2020.“A collection of beautiful, poetic and somewhat sad songs with a warm and organic production that draws you in and wraps around your heart,” writes Americana Highways of Starr's 2018 record, South and West. The record follows an acclaimed EP, The Head and Heart, also produced by John Oates, and the full-length Love and Sabotage with special guests like John Oates, Richie Furay, Dana Cooper, and Steve Cropper.Starr's prestige extends beyond the stage as well, having launched Starr's Guitars in Little Rock in 1998, then relocating to Cedaredge in 2001. Today, the store is such an institution that Cedaredge proclaimed the musician's birthday as David Starr Day in 2016. Starr was also instrumental in the 2018 opening of the Grand Mesa Arts Center, an intimate event space brought to fruition through strong community support in Cedaredge, CO. He helped design the space in order to attract musicians and visual artists to Southwestern Colorado.Starr says of his upcoming Beauty And Ruin project, “This project is important to me for several reasons. From hercrookedheart.comRachel Ries, the writer, multi-instrumentalist and producer behind Her Crooked Heart, demonstrates immense vulnerability and multifaceted musical craftsmanship in delivering personal and profound musical soliloquies on love, leaving and the life that follows after burning it all down. With To Love To Leave To Live (May 2019), Her Crooked Heart presents a debut record unique in form, made up of cyclical narratives and intertwining histories, each informing the next. The result is a transformative song cycle, led by a charismatic personality, wholly indifferent to expectations of genre and instrumentation. In 2013, after two and a half years of marriage, Ries found herself touring a record around the world, accompanied by a stack of divorce papers in a pocket of her suitcase. She had left her marriage and a good man in New York City and leapt into the untethered unknown. What transpired was in turns euphoria and despondence; old lessons learned in new ways. The songs on To Love To Leave To Live are a compassionate and at times wry catalogue of those tumultuous years. With co-producer Shane Leonard, she enlisted several collaborators whom she'd met on the road; some while touring with Anaïs Mitchell: Brian Joseph (Sufjan Stevens, Paul Simon), Rob Moose (yMusic, Alabama Shakes), Mike Lewis (Bon Iver), Alec Spiegelman(Cuddle Magic), Pat Keen, John DeHaven, Ben Lester and Rachel's own siblings. To bring these songs and this record to the stage, Ries has enlisted a powerful group of women; women who can, in their way, take on the feminine, humanist mantle of Her Crooked Heart and make it their own: Siri Undlin (Humbird), Adelyn Strei(Adro), Hilary James (We are the Willows, Bathtub Cig). The quartet blends classical and electric guitar; piano and vintage synths; cello, woodwinds and drum triggers. This merging of acoustic and synthetic sounds is all in service of the voice: four part vocal harmonies that shift from ethereal to an elemental wail, always telling a story of transformation.Website- https://www.hercrookedheart.com/homeYouTube- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzn0p4cFK1hI5tL7S3bkHwwFacebook- https://www.facebook.com/rachelriesmusic/Instagram- https://www.instagram.com/hercrookedheart/
