Every marathon comes with its fair share of chaffing, cramping and broken toenails. Pain is unavoidable, but God has the ability to transform us during our trials. How can we grow through our pain and find the joy that's waiting for us at the finish line? Endurance is just one step away. Title: Endurance Series: Run the Race Text: Romans 5:3-5 Speaker: Andrew Branham Discussion/Reflection Questions: What is the most physical pain you have ever been in? How are you experiencing pain in your life right now? Can you identify ways that God is growing your character and giving you hope? Read Hebrews 12:1-3, How can we see endurance in the life of Christ? What's a far-fetched, soul stretching goal you have for your faith? What's the first step you can take in that direction? What's your 1% goal for growth this week? What is the joy that could be waiting for you on the other side of your pain/problem? Pray: ask God to give you patience, increase endurance and reveal His purpose in your pain. Aaron is the only person I know that has both finished the Ouray 100 and coached someone to a finish. I look forward to Aaron helping get me to the start line prepared to be one of the few Minnesotans to finish the Ouray 100. Thank you for listening, friends! Today's episode was so much fun to record. Amanda and I share a mutual friend that introduced us at the recent Javelina Jundred Endurance Run in Arizona. Amanda is a badass outdoor adventurer, having completed the Adirondack 46ers and currently working on the Adirondack Grid of 552 peaks. Amanda performed well at the race, and completed the 100 miles to get her finisher's buckle. We talk about what happened in her race a couple weeks ago including why she decided to run 100 miles far from her mountainous New York home, what it's like to be in the desert overnight, what she ate, how her pacers made the last 2 20-mile loops fun, what she's up to next. A great life tip was shared in the episode: to simply follow an idea. Just do it, and learn from it. Amanda crushed Javelina, and next up is completing the full Adirondack Grid. It was a blast to record with Amanda: our laughter and Amanda's stoke fill the episode. We are delighted to welcome professional gravel racer and ultra runner Heather Jackson back to the show. Our first episode with Heather launched in January 2020. So much has transpired since then, including her retirement from racing triathlon at the professional level and Heather and her husband Wattie becoming parents with the arrival of Stevie pup, who was introduced to the world via Instagram last September. Heather finished off 2022 in a huge way, having raced her final Ironman in Kona at the World Championships, then two weeks later placing 14th female at the Big Sugar 100-mile gravel race, and then one week later took the ultra running scene by storm with her 5th place finish at Javelina Hundred 100-mile after leading the race through mile-60. And most recently, she just crushed the Black Canyon 100k after an iconic battle with heavy hitters like Keely Henniger and Ida Nilsson. She finished 2nd on the day, coming in under the previous course record with a time of 8hrs 47 minutes, and 59 seconds. So much newness and unknown during this conversation, and of course, we dig for her treasures of wisdom which she always shares so generously. Thank you for tuning in! If you enjoy the show, please consider making your statement known on Patreon - this community is solely responsible for keeping the YTP and Awake Athlete podcasts commercial-free. In this episode, we discuss: - moving to the dirt sports - going out too hot - Ironman endurance on the trails - beginners mindset - the art of downhill running - trail running requires presence - nutrition practices for these longer trail races - Heather's support crew - joy and gratitude - epic trail battles - gravel riding to support healthy running - Western States 100 Endurance Run - what are you waiting for? - 2023 race calendar Namaste- Jess

Joanna Ford from Alberta recently finished Hardrock 100 for the first time (and hopefully not the last), placing sixth female overall! Peak bagger and outdoor enthusiast, Joanna's foray into ultrarunning started fairly recently but she set her sights on some pretty epic challenges. We chat with her about her nine year journey to Hardrock and about her tough qualifiers at Fat Dog 120 and Bighorn 100 that got her there. She takes us through her day (and a half) at Hardrock 100. “I was dead set on winning the 2006 race almost because I didn't want to embarrass or disappoint Jurek.” Brian Morrison is the operating partner for Fleet Feet Seattle. Brian describes how a running shoe should fit, his run camps, how he got into running, how Scott Jurek trained him for the 2006 Western States endurance run and his retelling of how he won Western States but got disqualified just feet from the finish line. “We knew how to set up a course you know. We knew how to go out and mark a trail. We knew how to do that from horses. So when we were given the reigns to take the run and launch it on our own, we called on all our endurance riding friends.” Shannon Weil is the author of Strike Along Trot and historian on the Western States Trail. Hear about her endurance horse riding, learn about the history of the Tevis Cup, the history of the Western States 100 Endurance Run, how the run buckle came into existence, and the birth of the Western States Trail museum. "I'm tired. But I'm feeling pretty good. I've got a job to do and I need to do it and that's kind of it. I'm on a mission. I just need to get it done." Jacky Hunt-Broersma is on a quest to run 100 marathons in 100 days. That's 26.2 miles every single day for 100 days straight, while raising money for Amputee Blade Runners. We recorded this episode together at 8 AM on Day 75. Jacky — a running coach and ultramarathoner whose next goal is the Moab 240 Endurance Run — had just gotten her two kids off to school, and was getting ready for marathon number 75. In this conversation, we get to know the Jacky today, who is more than 3/4 of the way through her record-setting challenge. And we get to know the 26-year-old Jacky from 2001, who woke up one day with a golf ball-sized mass on her leg. She was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma, a rare cancer, and had her leg amputated just weeks after the diagnosis. It wasn't until 15 years later that Jacky started running, and she says her only regret is that she didn't start sooner. In this conversation, Jacky talks about the highest (running with her daughter!) and lowest (Day 35) points of this 100-marathon challenge, about dealing with mom guilt along the way, and about her plans for marathon #92, which she'll run in the para division of the Boston Marathon. I recently got on the mic with my friend Dylan Bowman, who first appeared on the podcast back on Episode 14 in 2018, and we caught up with one another about all sorts of stuff. In this episode, we talk about where we're at in our respective lives right now, what we both have going on athletically and professionally, where we see certain parts of the industry going in the next few years, and a lot more. For those of you who don't know, Dylan is one of the top ultrarunners in the U.S., if not the world. Last year he finished second at the Hardrock 100 Endurance Run, running under the previous course record time, and he's won or been on the podium at Transgrancanaria, TDS, Ultra-Trail Mt. Fuji, Tarawera, and other big races. He's also the founder of FreeTrail, a training and media platform dedicated to the life changing sport of trail and ultrarunning, and he also hosts the FreeTrail podcast. This episode is brought to you by:— Tracksmith.
