In this episode of Good Enough for Now, Ashley Cox, a leadership coach and entrepreneur, shares her insights on building and sustaining a successful business by hiring and developing teams. With a mission to help more women become leaders and creating jobs for moms who can excel at home and at work, Ashley leans on her own personal experiences around self-awareness, negative feedback, perfectionism, personal development, and more. Ashley believes everyone can be a leader: in their family, at church, in their community, and at work, and that women are their own worst enemy when it comes to hiring because they wait too long to take action. In this episode, we talk about intentional leadership, why trust is a big part of leadership, what accountability really means, and how to make sure that everyone you work with has their voice heard. Listen in to hear more and to see what a true ray of sunshine Ashley is. What We Cover In This Episode: The challenges women face in stepping into leadership roles, including confidence and conditioning to be nice. The negative stories we tell ourselves about our ability to lead and why everyone is a leader. How to lead with intention, understanding your core values, and holding yourself and your team accountable to create a culture where teams thrive. The benefits of cultivating self-awareness and self-love to make better hiring decisions and communicate honestly with your team. How to view feedback as a two-way street instead of something negative we have to do. Ashley's mission to get more women into leadership roles and why it's so important. How perfectionism can be both good and bad, and why it's important to embrace imperfection to foster creativity, growth, and innovation. Leadership can be defined in many different ways, but author Joanne Ciulla said it best when she wrote, “Leadership is not a person or a position. It's a complex moral relationship between people based on trust, obligation, commitment, emotion, and a shared vision of the good.” There are many leaders among us, and they're found in various kinds of people, places, and even the most unlikely positions.Unfortunately, many people – especially women – struggle with leadership, as only 35% currently hold a leadership position out of the 54.3% that make up today's workforce. What's more, is that individuals may not even realize that they have the ability to lead or influence, because they believe that to be an effective leader, they must have a title, or they view leadership as something that has to be earned. People don't need to change who they are to be an effective leader – they simply need to have a passion for what they do and learn how to leverage who they are to make an impact. In this episode of “Bring Out The Talent,” we are joined by Ashley Cox. Ashley is the Founder and CEO of SproutHR and author of “Transform Your Stories: Overcome Your Toxic Stories, Become a Courageous and Confident Leader, and Impact the World.”Tune in as we learn some tips to lead successfully and confidently in the workplace!

If you've been thinking about hiring to take some of the day-to-day minutiae off your list, you just might have waited too long to take the leap. That's according to this week's podcast guest, Ashley Cox of SproutHR. Early in business, bootstrapping is essential. But as you bring on more clients, you start to eat into your family and rest time resulting in working more hours than you should or want to. Some of those working hours (maybe more than you'd care to admit!) are likely taking care of administrative tasks or getting distracted by tasks that are much better done by someone else. Like the hours you spend creating graphics in Canva or the chasing of paperwork. You might have fun with the former but need support in getting the latter under control. Neither of these is a good use of your time. Before you post job descriptions for all the roles you'd like to fill, listen in to this episode. Ashley and I talk about the strategy behind hiring and why hiring for non-revenue generating roles can truly make a huge difference in your revenue. Hiring can feel really scary, but I think you'll see how essential it is after listening in! A lot of us need to delegate and don't, and when we do we're not always as effective as we should be. Sometimes it's the fear of someone not being able to do the task the “right” way (which is actually key for not doing it “your” way). Sometimes it's not know what you need to delegate in the first place. Today's guest is Ashley Cox of SproutHR, and she's sharing with us the three mistakes people make when delegating. And if you're on the fence about delegating or are currently delegating but not sure you're doing it right, you're going to want to listen in. Because according to Ashley: “Your ability or inability to delegate effectively will 100% make or break your business growth.” And I have to agree with her completely. Don't be afraid of having to teach someone something; if you hire the right people they'll actually be able to do it without you teaching them. And if you're spending time doing things that aren't what people paying you money for, why are you still doing those tasks? It's time to free up your time for the things that bring money into your business. But before you do, listen in as Ashley warns us about the mistakes we might make while delegating, complete with action steps to help you do it right. About Ashley Cox Ashley Cox of SproutHR helps business owners avoid getting bogged in the day to day grind of running a biz and foster the skills they need to lead happy and high functioning teams that get results. She has over 12 years experience in Fortune 25 companies and solo-run businesses. Key Points to Ponder Before you start delegating, look into creating systems and automations in your business. If you plan on growing and scaling your business, delegating tasks is a thing you're going to have to learn and do well. “They won't do it the right way” is code for “They won't do it MY way.” You can't expect your team members to know what to do without clear communication from you first. “Do you have any questions” is not the right question to ask to ensure your team members understand the task at hand. The way to grow forward-thinking businesses is not controlling all the little details, but rather allowing our teams to come together and to do their jobs. Mentioned in this episode Ashley's new favorite book is Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. Kim is currently reading When Perfect Isn't Good Enough. Ashley recommends The Imperfect Boss Camp and Ashley Beaudin's #imperfectbosses campaign. Ashley is currently loving historical televisions like Vikings.
Many people cringe when they hear the term “Human Resources” but our guest today, Ashley Cox, is the most welcoming and knowledgeable Human Resources expert. She is the founder of SproutHR, where she helps entrepreneurs learn all about how to hire, train, and lead a thriving team. She joins us today to share her insight on how you can hire your first (or next) employee the right way. Ashley explains what specific and unique challenges small businesses face when they’re hiring and managing team growth. What You’ll Learn in this Episode What is the purpose of a human resources department? What are they meant to do? How important is it to have someone who is in charge of people operations? What is the perfect time to hire help and start building out your team? What can you be doing right now as a business owner to prepare yourself to hire others who are aligned with your values and are excited to serve your customers The steps business owners can put in place to prepare themselves to hire their first employee How to get honest with yourself to discover your strengths and weaknesses and why that’s important to understanding who you hire What to do if you’re unsure of how to approach hiring help even when you know you desperately need the help Can roleplaying the interview process lead to a better hiring decision? Some good quality questions to ask your interviewee to get the information you need to hear, not what you want to hear What Ashley thinks about the “hire slow, fire fast” expression Why it’s important to hire people who are better than you, smarter than you, and offer a different skillset than yours if you want to drive creativity, productivity, and profits in your business Resources Interview with Heart - 100 questions + template + guide (for purchase) Contact Information: www.sprouthr.co Instagram: @sprout_hr Facebook: facebook.com/sprouthr Thanks for Checking Out the Show Notes and for Listening!
