These days, most of us have a good working knowledge of what's going on with our internal organs. But in the Middle Ages, most people – even doctors – never got to see much of the inside of a human body. So, how did people conceive of our internal world? This week, Danièle speaks with Taylor McCall about what medieval people knew about internal medicine, where they learned it, and how they illustrated it.You can support this podcast on Patreon - go to https://www.patreon.com/medievalists

While many of you know that I work with an organization called WellBuilt Cities you might not know that I have been working with other city builders from around the nation with Hugh Halter and Taylor McCall. Hugh and Taylor have written a book called Brave Cities which is due to be released in just a few months. In the book they explore lots of questions about the changing landscape of faith, church, and life. They share countless stories and lessons from their experience cultivating Kingdom ecosystems. The Grey Pages Podcast is where Hugh, Taylor, Jon & friends explore and reflect on this journey together. There are a lot of publications out there known as White Papers that give an in-depth report or guide on a specific topic over which the author has deep knowledge and mastery. Grey Pages are not as much of a guide or a report as a shared journey of discovery. Things are not always as black and white as we might like, join us as we journey into the grey. This first episode is now available on Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Podcasts. Richly illustrated, The Art of Anatomy in Medieval Europe explores the many ways in which medieval surgeons, doctors, monks, and artists understood and depicted human anatomy. Taylor McCall refutes the common misconception that Renaissance artists and anatomists such as Leonardo da Vinci and Andreas Vesalius were the fathers of anatomy who performed the first human dissections. On the contrary, she argues that these Renaissance figures drew upon centuries of visual and written tradition in their works. Alright. This is one of these conversations where we probably won't put our technology hat on. We're not talking some new technique or process for digital ministry. Instead, we're going to dive deep into microchurch. LET'S BETTER UNDERSTAND MICROCHURCH STRATEGY, AND HOW IT CAN REACH THE CITY. As we look at Decentralized Microchurches, we see an immense opportunity to reach people digitally… utilizing digital community in the same way that physical microchurches are reaching to their community. The potential of a microchurch is far more than just doing a neighborhood bible study, as Taylor McCall says it opens up a new opportunity, to create a new city. Mindblown? We are too. DOES TAYLOR'S MCCALL'S MICROCHURCH STRATEGY FOR BRAVE CITIES PAVE THE WAY FOR DIGITAL MICRO? Taylor's Microchurch strategy is aggressive, but what does it mean for Digital? How can we use Digital to not only reach our city, but to create new expressions of the city? What is a digital city anyway? Or what is the role of digital in reaching our city? These questions, and many more, with Taylor McCall & Jeff Reed on The Church Digital Podcast. ABOUT TAYLOR MCCALL Taylor McCall is the founder of Common Thread — a movement of interconnected churches in Birmingham, AL, that consists of intentional neighborhood communities, small businesses and justice works in their city and multiple cities around the world. Taylor and his wife Lindsey and their five children live in downtown Birmingham and have been living in and practicing intentional community for over a decade. It was a cool follow up on some of the ideas he shared in our first discussion. His ideas about the city and "what's pass-on-able' are made all the more vivid as he reflects on them in our current context. This recording was done via zoom and he was sitting in his car outside his house, as the house was to full of kids to be able to have this conversation. He told me that has been his office lately. There are a few times the signal breaks-up. It's never too bad and I just left it in rather than editing it out as I appreciated the authenticity of the actual experience.
