«EUSEXUA» ist unser neues Sounds! rWotD Episode 2738: The Peth Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Friday, 1 November 2024 is The Peth. The Peth (English language: The Thing) are a Welsh rock music supergroup band formed in Cardiff in 2008 by Super Furry Animals drummer Dafydd Ieuan as "an excuse to spend large chunks of his time in a recording studio" while other members of the Super Furry Animals were busy with solo projects. Ieuan asked actor, and former Super Furry Animals lead singer, Rhys Ifans to provide vocals for several tracks he had written, and recruited eight other people for the group, including Super Furry Animals bassist Guto Pryce, Meilyr Gwynedd, Osian Gwynedd, Mick Hilton, Dic Ben and Kris Jenkins. Ben was in an early incarnation of the Super Furry Animals along with Ifans, while Jenkins frequently plays percussion for the Super Furries and has appeared on all the group's albums since 2001's Rings Around the World as well as contributing to the 1999 single "Northern Lites".The group played their first concerts in 2008 in low-key venues in Wales before gigging in London and performing at that year's Green Man Festival. Debut album The Golden Mile was released in August 2008 to mixed reviews. The record's title refers to "the mile between the group's studio and the Grangetown region of Cardiff". A second album, Crystal Peth has been recorded but has yet to be released. In 2009 The Peth supported Oasis at a concert in Cardiff's Millennium Stadium. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:17 UTC on Friday, 1 November 2024.For the full current version of the article, see The Peth on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Stephen.
Ideas, experiments, imagination. So, what was the optimum Britpop™️ year? Academics, thinkers and BBC documentary makers have wrestled over this question for many a year. Possibly even as long as it takes to listen to Be Here Now.1993 - Yanks, go home?1994 - Maybe, perhaps definitely?1995 - Different class, I'd suggest? So where were we by the spring of 1996? Three years of evolution, trademarked Beatles and Kinks mimicking, and countless cans of Red Stripe had taken it's toll. Would it be perceived wisdom, or 21st century hallowed hindsight, to suggest the original spark of Britpop was beginning to flicker as the winds of pop change were ‘spicing' themselves up in the wings? There's no doubt that the all conquering 94/95 pop of Pulp, Supergrass, blur and Oasis were still casting a huge Union Jack shaded shadow over the charts. But, oh, there was so much more! (We've been here before, haven't we?)Big dance acts! (Some faceless, some disguised as wrestlers!)Big pop acts (Some a bit cheesy, some disguised as Eternal and Lighthouses!)Big legacy acts (Some a bit past it, some disguised as Queen, some having soap stars being sick in their hair!)But lest we forget, as 1996 got underway and the first BIG NOW of the year presented 4o Top Chart Hits for our delectation - whether your ‘flava' was pop, rock, dance or hippy - there was an unbridled swagger and confidence to the music. The decade had shaken off any allusions of baggy or grunge and was telling us we could indeed live forever. Viva Forever, as some might (and indeed will) say! Join author and all round 90s pop kid Neil Collins as we revisit NOW33 and the spring of 1996. 'Neil's new book International Velvet: How Wales Conquered the 90s Charts revisits the unforgettable Cool Cymru era when the Manics, Catatonia, Stereophonics, Super Furry Animals, Gorky's Zygotic Mynci and many more won over the masses!Along the way rediscover how TV adverts were still providing a soundtrack to our denim purchases and drink breaks. How dads were very well catered for in the mid 90s (rock bands, not Louise!), what cassettes were in Neil's parents car as they attempted to break the traffic system of Paris, and why NOW33 has the best ending of ANY compilation EVER. And there's even honourable mentions for the Smurfs and Robson & Jerome! Don't look back in (too much) anger! Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Darunter Harry Potter, Moulin Rouge, The Fast and the Furious, Training Day und Ocean's Eleven, Lammbock, Password Swordfish, Tomb Raider und viele, viele mehr.

Welsh musician and songwriter Gruff Rhys (of Super Furry Animals, the pop outfit known for their catchy songs and weird videos) poetically harnesses both the gritty and the trippy in his own music. But he's also a composer, producer, filmmaker and author. His latest release, the 25th album of his career (individually, collaboratively and as a member of various bands), is a solo album called Sadness Sets Me Free, sung in English, and left open to chance. Rhys and his bandmates play some of these new songs, in-studio. Sadness Sets Me Free by Gruff Rhys

Careful of Your Keepers, the sixth full-length album by This Is the Kit, ends with the mantra-like benediction of "Be Okay". It's a beautifully delicate place to land, after ten songs that navigate their way through a world full of actions, their equal and opposite reactions, and the inextricably linked, overwhelmingly human dance between beauty and pain. It's an album that starts with a goodbye. Or more precisely, it starts with a track called "Goodbye Bite", which carries on with plenty of bite throughout. The lyrics and imagery are are full of teeth and clawing and chewing. As Kate Stables sings on the chorus to the song "Inside Outside" – quoting Ralph Wiggum's celebrated Valentine note to Lisa on an episode of The Simpsons – "Bite off as much as you can chew/ I chew chew choose you." Kate Stables is the singer/ songwriter/ multi-instrumentalist/ banjo enthusiast at the heart of this project. She grew up and fell in love with music in Winchester, one of Old England's oldest cities. She then moved on to the magical music city of Bristol, also the birthplace of groundbreaking acts like Portishead and Massive Attack. It's been a couple of decades since she moved to the artists' mecca of Paris, along with her husband (and fellow musician/bandleader) Jesse Vernon. She and her musical collaborators have quietly built a body of work that's seen This Is the Kit become one of the most revered and distinctive creative forces in folk music. Their much-acclaimed 2023 album builds on 20 years of creative evolution, and finds them collaborating with a hero of Kate's from back in her teenage years – Gruff Rhys, who came to fame as the frontperson for Welsh '90s indie rock deities Super Furry Animals. During the course of a wintertime 2024 tour through Alberta, Kate Stables stopped off at CKUA's Calgary studios to share an illuminating conversation about the elliptical nature of reality, her musical beginnings and creative evolution, drawing inspiration from a century-old banjo discovered in someone's attic, her surprisingly robust connections with Canada and/or Canadian music, working with one of her heroes, and what she always carries in her handbag.

On this week's Talkhouse Podcast we've got a pair of songwriting visionaries who came to prominence in the 1990s with well respected indie bands, and who both have vital new music out now: Jason Lytle and Gruff Rhys. Lytle started making music under the name Grandaddy back in 1992. He was pro skateboarder who found a second passion in home recording, and as you'll hear in this chat, kind of stumbled upon some guys who helped him flesh out the sound into something both humble and grand. The first run of Grandaddy albums—including Under the Western Freeway and 2000's classic The Sophtware Slump—felt a bit like quieter, more heartfelt cousins to the music the Flaming Lips were making at the time. After that initial run, the band eventually split up, only to reform sporadically over the years. Lytle also recorded some really fascinating solo records while also time—as you'll hear—to try and leave the music world behind a little bit. But he's been called back to the Grandaddy world with a brand new album called Blue WAV, and it's everything you'd expect from him brain: a mixture of sweet sadness with fuzzy guitars and synths from another age. Check out “Cabin in my Mind” from Blue WAV right here. The other half of today's conversation is Gruff Rhys, who just released his 25th album overall in a career that has spanned 35 years and taken some fascinating turns. He's still probably best known as the frontman of the colorful, psych-leaning Welsh pop band Super Furry Animals, which was signed to the venerated Creation Records label back in the 1990s, and whose records and visuals always zigged when you thought they might zag—that's a compliment. For his solo work, Rhys has been genre-expansive to say the least, but his brand new record, Sadness Sets Me Free, is refreshingly straightforward pop. As you'll hear in this chat, it was recorded pretty quickly, without a lot of fuss. It doesn't sound miles away from the new Grandaddy album, really. Check out “Bad Friend” right here. As it turns out, these two toured together a million years ago, and each has fond memories of that time—a soccer match, a special parting gift, and more. They also chat about Lytle's preference to stay away from the madness of the big city, even as he lives perilously close to it once again as well as their tendency to make up words in their songs when the ones that exist just won't do. Enjoy. Thanks for listening to the Talkhouse Podcast, and thanks to Gruff Rhys and Jason Lytle for chatting. If you liked what you heard, please follow Talkhouse on your favorite podcasting platform, and check out all the great stuff at Talkhouse.com. This one's a special show for me! For this show, Yellow Brit Road (I) was on the ground in Toronto, where I caught up with a personal hero of mine: Gruff Rhys, Welsh musician, former frontman of the band Super Furry Animals, one half of Mercury-nominated duo Neon Neon, storyteller extraordinaire and solo musician. Gruff was performing at the Drake Underground in Toronto on 17 October 2023, supporting indie-folk band This Is The Kit on tour across North America. We talked about the Welsh music scene, the 90s, Super Furry Animals, Welsh pop culture, Super Furries' "lost techno album", and Gruff's upcoming solo album, Sadness Sets Me Free, out 26 January 2024! We're back with another bumper packed show of Canadian soccer chat. As the feast of footballing action continues across the country, we'll be talking Vancouver Whitecaps, Major League Soccer, the Canadian Championship, and the Canadian national teams in this episode. Any week that sees you winning some silverware is a good week! The Whitecaps lifted back-to-back Voyageurs Cups with a 2-1 victory over Montreal in the Canadian Championship on Wednesday. We look back at the win, what it means to the club, and where that puts Vanni Sartini in terms of successful 'Caps coaches in both MLS and previously. Plus we hear postgame audio from Vanni Sartini, Ryan Gauld, and Julian Gressel after the win and we also hear from Montreal head coach Hernan Losada. The 'Caps were back in MLS action at the week, playing out a 1-1 draw at home to the Supporters Shield leading FC Cincinnati. We delve into that match, round up the action this weekend in the MLS West, chat about some player news hitting the headlines this week, and the huge news of Lionel Messi finally coming to MLS to play with Miami. All of this plus we look at Canada's upcoming chance to win silverware of their own at this week's CONCACAF Nations League finals, congratulate the women's U20 side for making the World Cup, look at some of the other football played around the world this past week, and there's music from Therapy?, Super Furry Animals, Mog, and Cockney Rejects. Here's the rundown for the main segments from the episode: 01.31: Intro - another amazing week of football 15.25: Whitecaps win back-to-back Canadian Championships 36.53: Does final win cement Vanni as best manager in Whitecaps MLS era 46.00: Vanni Sartini Voyageurs Cup audio 56.13: Whitecaps trophy winning coaches discussion 62.20: Canadian player rules in the Canadian Championship 70.17: Ryan Gauld Voyageurs Cup audio 75.48: Julian Gressel Voyageurs Cup audio 79.27: Hernan Losada Voyageurs Cup audio 93.35: Whitecaps draw with Supporters Shield leading Cincinnati 105.55: MLS round-up and transfer news of the week 120.45: Messi to Miami 141.07: Canada get set to begin quest for summer of silver 155.30: Wavelength - Cockney Rejects - Farewell Upton Park

Episode 201 is a journey through some of the last 35 years in music through the medium of the sample, from the Amen break to famous sample-heavy albums to our own personal favourite sampled songs. We discuss how an obscure 1960s B-side became the most sampled song in history and helped birth genres like drum and bass and jungle. We explore the sample art of albums like DJ Shadow's Entroducing, Beastie Boys' Paul's Boutique, J Dilla's Donuts, Girl Talk's Night Ripper and The Avalanches' Since I Left You.And then Niall and Andrea share their favourite samples including but not limited to music from Steely Dan, Super Furry Animals, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye, Burial, Kate Bush, ABBA, James Blake, Skepta and a disco Beethoven true original. The track that kicked off the idea was Rory Sweeney and Emby's 'All My Life' which samples Kendrick's 'Backseat Freestyle'.Shout out to Tracklib on Youtube for some of the audio sample beds.Songs referenced on his episode, and their samples are listed here. Britpop is back!
Croeso! We are wrapping up our trilogy of episodes on Isle of the Mighty with an exploration into Wales/Cymru and the fae/Tylwyth Teg that dwell there. The unfortunate news is that Book 3 of this weighty tome has a lot of the same issues we called out previously: clunky choices for the history section, uneven distribution of information in the geography section, several NPCs whose defining adjective is "meh". But the better news is that we are taking the opportunity to do a more thorough chat about the elements of crossover with Mage: the Ascension in this section, and from there, the book as a whole. Joining us for that discussion is Terry Robinson, host of Mage: the Podcast, and a genuinely wonderful person to talk to about such things. Lend us your ears, and we'll do our best to dazzle and enlighten you. It's 09/03/98! Really just music from Matthew Sweet, Super Furry Animals, Hole — maybe an ad for SeVan II ®. Oh, and Él Farto calls in from the Airfone on his Continental Airlines flight. Definitely not a recon mission into a shadowy underworld. And no food-based vandalism. Pretty basic, really. Doesn't end on a note of ominous struggle or anything.
