Tom discusses how he got started in the comedy business and what lessons if first taught him; shares boring origin stories; talks about the joy of vibing comedically; the importance of (and tips for) detaching one’s self; the value of mouth-feel; how fear is a mind-killer; how he misses the grease of unexpected interaction; and most heroically, how he eps turns today’s news — all of it, even when it’s unpleasant — into comedy. Episode 5 shocked "True Detective" fans by taking Season 3 back to the quality and power of Season 1 without stealing too much from the HBO series' origins. We review startling scenes, including The Woodard Altercation, The Press Conference, Julie's Phone Call, and The Porch Talk.  Is Wayne a horrible man who's veneer is beginning to crack? Or should we sympathize with a troubled veteran burdened with the sins and shortcomings of those around him? Maybe both. What happened to officer Harris James? Was he the man Wayne Hays and Roland West alluded to killing? Or was it Tom Purcell?  Big D, King Bee, and Gene Lyons piece it all together. Plus, listeners write in to The Watch with their views on the Hoyt Foods connection, ghosts vs. memories, Roland's sexuality, and more.  Help Support the Podcast Shop Amazon With Our Free Affiliate Link:https://www.amazon.com/?tag=shatmovies-20 Take the Sponsor Survey:https://survey.libsyn.com/shatontv Leave a Voicemail:(914) 719-SHAT – (914) 719-7428 Donate with Paypal:https://shatontv.com/paypal Subscribe to our Feeds & Follow us on Social Media: https://shatontv.com/subscribe-and-follow/ Check out our Movie Podcast:http://shatthemovies.com   Tags: True Detective, True Detective TV Series, True Detective Theories, True Detective Spoilers, True Detective Series, True Detective Review, True Detective Recap, True Detective Questions, True Detective podcast, True Detective 2016, TV Series, TV Podcast, Shat The Movies, Shat On TV, Mystery, HBO True Detective, HBO Series, HBO Podcast, Game of Thrones

WARNING: Explicit language from the get-go as we decode Episode 3 of "True Detective" Season 3. Confused about this one? You're not alone. After episodes 1 and 2 held our hand through all the clues to the Purcell kids' death and disappearance, Episode 3 knocked all the clues on the ground like so many Dungeons and Dragons dice in a forest. Let's venture into the darkest parts of Wayne Hays' memory, dissect his relationship with Amelia, and finally answer "what's that gun for?" Seeing Wayne, Roland, and Tom Purcell in 1990 gave us a lot of context for the web woven between the three men, and Gene thinks he knows the first guy to take the fall for the crimes in West Finger. Wondering about the notes? Us, too! Worried about the Trash Man? Who isn't? Hungry for another Dick Ebert Bible lesson? You're gonna get one anyway! Baby Boomers and even some Gen Xers will relate and remember the days! Purcell's newspaper column is syndicated in over 300 newspapers and he has written a wonderful book sharing his stories in his personal book. It includes 16 stories about bike jumps that nearly killed us, vengeance on the sledding slopes, 6th grade puppy love, the old wooden stereo console, the embarrassment of getting the first David Cassidy shag haircut, a beloved family dog that ran away, going through the old photo box, a baby sister left behind at the drive-in theater, a regrettable incident in which an 11 year old kid clogs the family room toilet with an apple core, and other tales from that could only happen in the '70s.     Learn more about Tom Purcell at TomPurcell.com Buy the book HERE If you enjoyed this podcast: Subscribe to Mary's Friday Five: TEXT “Friday” to 42828 Rate and review it on iTunes or Stitcher Visit the Experience 50 website and sign up for our email list Like us on Facebook and Follow us on Twitter
