VYS0050 | One And The Same - Vayse to Face with Peter C Hine - Show Notes By some miracle Hine and Buckley have made it to episode 50 and to make the occasion they welcome to Vayse close collaborator and friend of the show, Peter C Hine. Peter is a podcaster, writer and musician from Manchester UK. Together with Stephen James Buckley he co-founded Vayse, a podcast about weird stuff, now celebrating it's 50th episode. The conversation flows from how Vayse was formed, how Peter first became interested in all things weird, why his magical practice is on pause, how deep disillusionment with the current occult scene runs, what does the future hold for Vayse and just how many time can he mention Six Ways, Hellier and Penny Royal in a single interview? (Recorded 22 May 2025) Thanks to all our guests over the last 50 episodes and to everyone who has listened. Even though our traumatic experiences happened a long time ago, their grip on our lives is sometimes still too tight to be ignored. This usually prevents us from accessing joy and hope, making it so much harder to tap into our positive emotions. Timothy J. Hayes sits down with MaryCatherine McDonald, Ph.D., author of The Joy Reset, to discuss how to bring down the barriers hindering us from experiencing genuine joy and profound healing. She explains how to discover happiness even in your lowest points by reframing trauma and recognizing your unique strengths. Dr. MaryCatherine also discusses how hypervigilance results in a false sense of safety and how tiny little joys can help recalibrate our systems.Love the show? In this episode, Dave and Ann Wilson dive into the concept of how husbands can lead and cherish their wives, focusing on advice from Brad Merchant, a pastor from Indianapolis, who wrote a blog titled "Six Ways to Lead and Love Your Wife." The hosts discuss what makes wives feel cherished and loved, offering both humor and practical advice for husbands. The episode opens with the hosts highlighting the importance of this topic, especially for wives who might be multi-tasking—whether at home or at work. One of the hosts introduces Brad Merchant's blog, and they begin to walk through the six ways mentioned in it. The main focus is on encouraging husbands to ask meaningful questions that show care and interest in their wives' feelings and experiences. These questions could include things like, "How are you doing?" "How can I help you?" and "What's the heaviest thing you're carrying emotionally?"Incorporating a faith-based perspective, the hosts discuss how the Apostle Paul's teachings in Ephesians 5 about self-sacrifice and love can be applied to relationships. They unpack the meaning of cherishing a wife, which goes beyond the traditional idea of buying gifts; it's about truly treasuring and caring for her deeply. The hosts share some humorous and personal stories, including one about a husband's obsession with his guitars and how it connects to his lack of attention to his wife's needs. The episode also touches on the idea of a husband humbling himself and leading in a way that empowers his wife. They discuss practical ways to serve wives, like doing household chores, asking for their input in decisions, and giving them quality time. The hosts also provide examples from their own marriages of how asking questions and listening can strengthen a relationship. One host shares an insightful story about realizing how his love and attention to his daughter's car was a reflection of how he should treat his wife with the same care. The show concludes with a reminder for husbands to act on these principles, even if they don't announce them, and to consider the impact of simple actions in showing love. They suggest that wives might want to share the podcast with their husbands as a subtle way to encourage growth in their relationships. The episode wraps up with mentions of other FamilyLife resources and encouragement to visit their website for more relationship advice. There is no denying we are in an extraordinarily tough season. When things feel heavy and hard for an extended period of time, it's easy to feel a sense of constriction in our thoughts, mental health, and worldview. It's easy to fall into a funk. And, it can feel impossible to pull ourselves out of it. During challenging seasons, it is crucial that you maintain a growth mindset. While it's important to acknowledge what is happening in the world around us, it is also critically important to maintain habits that allow you to tap into hope and possibility regularly. If all you feel is constriction during hard seasons, you run the risk of shutting down completely. This doesn't serve you or anyone else. Tapping into your growth mindset is going to be the superpower that allows you to keep going. In this episode, I outline six practical strategies to help you advance a growth mindset, including collecting the correct evidence, tracking small wins, staying in motion, leaning on the right support system, recognizing harmful narratives, and giving yourself permission to practice self-compassion through rest and restorative activities. Hosts Clarissa Kennedy and Molly Painschab explore the critical theme of belonging in recovery. They discuss the concept of "othering"—feeling unseen, unheard, or misunderstood—and its deep impact on individuals in their healing journeys. The episode is framed around a powerful quote from George Orwell about the loneliness of being misunderstood, setting the stage for a rich discussion on attachment, connection, and the need for belonging. Clarissa and Molly share personal experiences of feeling different, whether in family dynamics, social settings, or recovery groups. They examine how attachment styles—secure, avoidant, anxious, and disorganized—shape our ability to connect with others. Understanding these patterns can help individuals navigate relationships and cultivate deeper connections. They also highlight the essential role of nervous system regulation in recovery, emphasizing the power of co-regulation—where we find safety and grounding in connection with others. The discussion broadens into various forms of belonging, including interpersonal relationships, collective experiences, casual encounters, symbolic bonds, esteem-building, and contemplative practices. The episode concludes with encouragement for those feeling isolated in their recovery journey. The hosts remind listeners that belonging is cultivated over time and that finding one's community may take patience and effort. They stress the importance of honoring one's truth, setting boundaries, and staying open to new connections. Key Takeaways: The Pain of "Othering" – Feeling unseen and misunderstood can be isolating, but it's a common experience, especially in recovery. Attachment Styles Impact Belonging – Secure attachment fosters deep connection, while avoidant or anxious styles can make relationships challenging. Nervous System Regulation Through Connection – Belonging and co-regulation with others help soothe the nervous system and support healing. Six Ways to Cultivate Belonging: Interpersonal Relationships – Quality connections with family, friends, and recovery groups. Collective Experiences – Participating in group activities or shared traditions. Casual Encounters – Everyday interactions that remind us of our place in the world. Symbolic Bonds – Connecting through shared identities, cultures, or symbols. Esteem-Building – Feeling valued through contributions and recognition. Contemplative Practices – Finding connection through nature, mindfulness, and self-reflection. Vulnerability and Authenticity Foster True Belonging – Sharing personal stories and being open can create deep connections. Belonging is Not About Fitting In – It's about being seen and accepted as you are, not changing yourself to match others' expectations. Recovery Requires Courage to Stand Alone at Times – Not everyone will understand your journey, but staying true to yourself is essential. Finding Your People Takes Time – Your community is out there. Keep showing up, being authentic, and honoring your truth. Connect With Us: Have thoughts on this topic? Email us at foodjunkiespodcast@gmail.com. As people, we make shallow statements like “I love ice cream” and in the next breath say, “I love my husband.” Love is verb that proves itself with action. In episode 95, Dr. Brenda Caldwell gives insight on some of the practical ways that love proves itself in relationships. The HOPE Zone...where there's HOPE for every situation!

These days, I don't go out as much on the weekends as I did when I was in my 20s. I remember that in those days, there were a lot of fashion trends that came in and went out. And basically, the only reason we went out is to try to find someone to go out with. It's time to go out. Actually, it's time to look at another versatile idiom in English, go out. Let's dive right in and check out six ways we use go out.Join my Podcast Learner's Study Group here: https://learn.myhappyenglish.com/transcriptVisit my website for over 3,000 free English lessons: https://www.myhappyenglish.com
Christmas is nearly here and while some focus on the presents, we concentrate on the presence. We are by the fans for the fans so we love stories that embrace fans and their enjoyment of the game. We welcome back to the show old friend of the show Tim Harris, he's been a player, manager, coach, General Manager and Director of Football at many clubs over the years, but after an 18 month stint as manager at Worcester City he seems very settled since his move upstairs onto the board as Director of Football there and very pleased at the club's latest move to sign a groundshare at Sixways stadium famed for hosting Rugby in the town as he explains. If ever a tale exemplified the power of the non league family, it's Harry Foster's. Now banging in the goals for Street FC in the Western League he's seen clubs rally round of all colours and creed to support a charitable walk this weekend to the local Somerset derby at Shepton Mallet, raising funds for a charity that has provided support to him and his family since the sudden death of their young daughter just over a year ago. Matt Badcock returns to the show this week providing insight and knowledge on the week's non league news and what we can expect in this weekend's final pre-Christmas issue of the Non League Paper.
Chuck Schumer said that the intelligence community will come after anyone it considers a threat, and boy, is it coming after everyone President Trump wants in his inner circle. The Washington Post drops a disgusting hit piece on Hegseth's Bronze Stars.
Chapter 1:Summary of How to Win Friends and Influence People"How to Win Friends and Influence People," written by Dale Carnegie and first published in 1936, is a self-help classic that provides practical advice on interpersonal skills, communication, and relationship building. The book is organized into several key sections, each filled with principles and techniques aimed at improving one's ability to connect with others and achieve personal and professional goals. Six Ways to Make People Like You:- Become genuinely interested in other people: Show that you care about them, which fosters connections.- Smile: A simple smile can warm interactions and create a positive atmosphere.- Remember that a person's name is, to that person, the sweetest sound: Use names to build rapport and show respect.- Be a good listener: Encourage others to talk about themselves and listen actively.- Talk in terms of the other person's interests: Engage with topics that matter to the other person.- Make the other person feel important: Remember to do this sincerely.3. How to Win People to Your Way of Thinking:- Avoid arguments: Instead, try to understand differing perspectives.- Show respect for the other person's opinions: Even if you disagree, acknowledge their viewpoint.- If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically: Taking responsibility builds trust and respect.- Begin in a friendly way: A warm approach sets a positive tone for any discussion.- Let the other person feel that the idea is theirs: This encourages cooperation and shared ownership of ideas.4. Be a Leader: How to Change People Without Offending Them:- Begin with praise and honest appreciation: Start conversations about improvement on a positive note.- Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly: Use suggestions rather than direct criticism.- Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person: This disarms defensiveness.- Ask questions instead of giving direct orders: Encourages participation and a sense of autonomy.- Let the other person save face: Protect others' dignity, even in difficult conversations.5. The Power of Affection and Respect: The book emphasizes that genuine affection and respect for others lay the foundation for successful and influential relationships. In this episode, Rob Collie and Justin break down life lessons learned from a simple tool: the Green Biscuit puck. It's a perfect example of how resilience sometimes beats prevention—because you can't avoid every bump in the road, but you can adapt and keep moving forward. That same idea applies to AI and Power BI, where working with messy, real-world data is part of the process. Rob and Justin draw easy parallels between solving problems on the ice and in business, making complex topics feel less stuffy and refreshingly practical. When it comes to adopting AI, Rob and Justin talk about how it's not a magic fix but a friendly co-pilot, ready to help with everything from writing tasks to brainstorming. The goal isn't necessarily perfection. Sometimes it's simply getting off the starting line. Their advice? Don't overthink it. Take that first step, see where it leads, and let AI surprise you. Tools like ChatGPT can boost productivity, helping you overcome the blank-page syndrome.
