I, for one, bow down to our robot overlords. Robots have been all around us for many years. Why do we have such an obsession for these audacious automata? Jay and Shua look at robots in movies, TV, and life in general on Enjoy Stuff. Bang your head with some heavy metal! Robots have become a regular part of our life. We look at the history of robots and how they have programmed their way into our pop culture. This week on Enjoy Stuff, it's The Life Robotic with 5T3V3-Z1550U. News -The purchase of Casa Bonita by Matt Stone and Trey Parker is official -Mexico will soon be able to enjoy Krispy Kreme Donut Cereal -Dress up for breakfast with some Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles Cereal makeup What we're Enjoying Jay and Shua are both tremendously enjoying the Apple+ series Ted Lasso with Jason Sudekis. It has heart and humor with some great messages thrown in. Enjoy Life Where did robots come from? How long have they been around? It may surprise you to find out that the first automated machine dates back to 1737. Though ‘Digesting Duck' may have been a far cry from Boston Dynamic's Spot robot, it was still the humble beginnings of centuries of mechanized men. Once we got our first glimpse of a non-biological creature doing its thing, we couldn't get enough. Soon they were beeping their way into books, movies, toys, and everyday life. We use them to entertain, to do jobs that are too dangerous for humans, and for companionship. (I love you, Roomba!) To head off the imminent threat of a Cylon takeover, Isaac Asimov created three laws that should keep them in their place. But writers have been challenging that concept in many stories ever since. But what makes a robot a robot? Could it be classified as an android or a cyborg? What kinds of robots do you have a magnetic attraction to? Johnny 5? Wall-E? Or do you have more dark tastes and would like to snuggle up with the Terminator? Did you play with robot toys growing up? Or did you wait until we had real robots of today, like the Mars Curiosity Rover? We would love to hear your thoughts on those plastic pals that are fun to be with. Let us know in the Discord channel or send us an email to podcast@enjoystuff.com
Episode 059 of That Was Disappointing is Live. Like that scene in Total Recall, only with even more boobs. Today's Theme: Sci-Fi. We talk about things other than Star Wars and Star Trek. Honest! Our first topic is the sci-fi franchise you'd reboot. Lex already had a perfect response in Dune, but Denis Villeneuve beat him to the punch. Lame! Going for a Hail Mary pass with Battlefield Earth probably wasn't his best option, but you know what he'd say, “I'd f*ck a Psychlos.” Our second topic is the first sci-fi experience that blew your mind. Buck Rogers in the 25th Century gets a mention!? We love you 3,000 for bringing us this topic, Sean. Well , maybe not Producer Kenny, as it took him hundreds of hours of therapy to forget about Twiki in the first place. “biddi-biddi-biddi” Our third topic must've been one where Art was feeling industrious: “Sci-Fi mash up! Your consciousness is about to uploaded into the Memory Bank 3000™️. You get to choose any Sci-Fi universe to explore for eternity, BUT you have to preload it with characters from another Sci-Fi universe. What would you mash up?” Still awake? That makes none of us. Our final topic is surviving the robot apocalypse. Alright, enough of a circle jerk about favorite sci-fi franchises. Ryan wants us to use our acquired knowledge on the subject to avert the machines eventual uprising. Unfortunately, his electric bidet has already seen too much, dooming us all to extinction. Come listen to the podcast that's receiving rave reviews on the Apple Store. And not just from our wives!
On Episode 13 of Battlestar in the 25th Century, Shawn and Scott live watch Buck Rogers episode 7, “Plot to Kill a City, Part 2. Topics include a short hot start, Shawn's inability to concentrate because of Markie Post, two games of F, Marry, Kill, too much talking, Twiki getting his freak on, Buck the Wing Man, a Legion of Death Member Face Turn, their useless leader and their underwhelming end.
On Episode 12 of Battlestar in the 25th Century, Shawn and Scott live watch Buck Rogers episode 6, “Plot to Kill a City, Part 1.” Topics include 2 new additions to the Shawn POP feed train, the Legion of Death, Buck and Wilma clearly having relations, Space Pirate gear, Creepy Space King Kong Bundy in a fur coat, rough looking guns, outfits that shouldn't make it past censors, Villains who can't shoot, empaths that need X-Men training, Twiki getting blown up and so much more!

Take a trip to the 25th century and join the space adventure! For this classic 1970s television series, Zach and Nas discuss the impact of disco music on future generations and their galactic dance parties. This show has it all: time travel, sexy space princesses, apocalyptic Chicago, and a silver robot named Twiki. We also talk about one of our favorite media tropes: the impact of the Cold War on TV shows and the idea of the “nuclear holocaust.”We're contractually obligated not to compare this show to Star Wars, Star Trek, or any other “Star” series, so we'll just call it a “powerful, hero-driven space chronicle!”

The cosmic thriller The Colour Out of Space, by H.P. Lovecraft, the psychological thriller The Repairer of Reputations, by Robert W. Chambers, The Rival Mechanicians, another science fiction classic by Lydia Maria Childs, and The Skull, by the great Philip K. Dick. Links to these products can be found in the description for today’s episode. Today’s story is by a relatively unknown writer who created one of the most influential science-fiction characters of all time. But it wasn’t until Anthony Rogers made the leap to being a comic strip that he became known as “Buck” in the comic strip “Buck Rogers 2429 A.D., which premiered on January 7, 1929 and continued until 1968. The title changed annually to keep it exactly 500 years in the future. It was the first science-fiction comic strip, which the author created with artist Dick Calkins. It heavily influenced Alex Raymond, who was developing his Flash Gordon strip at the time. I was very young when the Buck Rogers series was on TV, (which only ran for two seasons) but I remember loving his little robot buddy Twiki. I recognized that he was voiced by Mel Blanc, who did all of my favorite Loony Tunes characters that I watched every day after school. I always wondered by Wilma called Buck “Tony”, and it wasn’t until I read today’s story that I made the connection. Cause I’m really sharp like that. And now, Armageddon 2419 A.D., part 1 of 3, by Philip Francis Nowlan. Tap here to go to www.classictalesaudiobooks.com and become a financial supporter! Tap here to go to our merchandise store! Ah, 1979. On the cusp of a new decade filled with hope and excitement. A time of terrible fashion choices, rampant STI's, and an aggressively deep chasm between legendary science fiction empires and...this. Buck Rogers is, well, technically a movie. A movie with characters, a sort-of plot, and an ending...and we're being generous. Join Jay and Benny as they slog through this tortuous 90-minute sci-fi tour de force, trying to make sense of the absolute gong show on screen while praying for the sweet release of death. Just like marriage, it helps if you go into this journey with zero expectations, and are ready to enjoy even less than you expected. I mean, watching this movie beats cleaning, working, or teaching your kids how to read or showing them any semblance of love and affection. Funky topics we cover include: How 70's is this movie? It's 70's. Like, HARD 70's. Did we mention it's very 70's? Twiki and Dr. Theo being the single worst robot duo in sci-fi history. Creepy unblinking eyes and an incredibly thirsty speak and spell? Bedubedubedubedubedu no thank you There are two different introductions you can do with a late 70's science fiction movie. You can roll an epic storyline with fantastic and powerful orchestral majesty...or you can have women in bikinis writhing on a glowing floor while a Saturday morning special song plays in the background. Buck Rogers is not the former “Hey, we're being chased by violent cannibals hell bent on murdering us. Let's make a detour to a cemetery so I can chill for a while and find personal closure” Come for the convoluted evil plot to conquer Earth that makes absolutely no sense. Stay for Buck Rogers taking every opportunity to swing a tire iron at the kneecaps of any tension that builds In 500 years, Earth has made incredible technological strides, balanced out by total collective idiocy and gullibility Apparently, being sentenced to immediate termination means chill out for a while in a comfortable room, have a mid-level military officer arbitrarily postpone your sentence, and then be given free reign of an advanced military space fighter, because why not? So sit back, relax, and laugh at our abject misery. Spoiler alert: Unless you have a nostalgia bug relentlessly gnawing at your ankles, you probably shouldn't endure what we just did.
