The MLB Draft Combine takes center stage and serves as a backdrop for a discussion of the top prep position players on the latest Pipeline Podcast. Jim Callis, Jonathan Mayo and Jason Ratliff talk about which players stood out most on the first day of Combine workouts, including UCLA first baseman Mulivai Levu and Rocco Maniscalco. That leads to talk of the high school bat class, including whether Grady Emerson is the top prospect in the entire Draft, and an interview with another talented prep shortstop in Jacob Lombard. If that's not enough, Jim and Jonathan do a joint mock draft where they project each club's top selection before fielding a listener mailbag question about Phillies right-hander Gage Wood. The College Essay Guy Podcast: A Practical Guide to College Admissions
Welcome back to the podcast! Today's episode is hosted by Tom Campbell, a former admission officer and now a college counselor and content creator here at College Essay Guy. This show often reminds us that beneath the essays, the deadlines, and the color-coded college lists, this whole thing is really about people — and today's guest is exhibit A. Quick disclaimer: this is a feel-good episode. Very "This American Life." If you've ever needed your faith in public education restored, cancel your other plans. In a content landscape where some of the loudest admissions "experts" run on rage-bait and loose credentials, my guest is the opposite. And his name is David Cha. In this episode I finally sit down with David. We get into: David's five-minute life story: how a kid from Koreatown, one youth pastor's quiet act of grace, and a hard left turn away from a communications career set David on the path to public education What it took to build the AVID program from scratch in 2001, overcoming early skepticism to help first-generation students thrive The evolution of the Bears University Seminar (BUS) and how a team of committed educators scaled a small library workshop into a massive success story Which CEG resources have quietly become game-changers inside BUS — yes, including the 250 copies of College Essay Essentials he bought as gifts for this year's graduates. And his hard-won advice for any public school educator trying to build a college-going culture against very long odds Oh, and at one point David volunteers his own high school SAT score toour dear listeners our dear listeners. I'll let him tell you that one. David Cha is a veteran educator with 27 years of classroom experience and holds two Masters degrees from Biola and Grand Canyon A recent recipient of the Mayor of Downey's Outstanding Citizen Award, David has built a legacy of impactful college-prep programming at Warren High School. In 2001, he launched the school's AVID program with just 30 students—an initiative that now serves nearly 600 students locally and has expanded districtwide down to the elementary level. David is also the founder of the Bears University Seminar (BUS), a summer essay and application bootcamp established in 2019. What began as a small workshop has grown into a massive success story, recently guiding a cohort of 237 seniors to an incredible 1,373 college acceptances across the UC and CSU systems and beyond. Whether you're an educator, counselor, parent, or student, I think you'll come away reminded that while admissions can feel impossibly complex, changing a student's life often starts with something beautifully simple: one person taking the time to invest in another. Let's get into it. We hope you enjoy. Play-by-Play: 3:52 – What is David's background? 4:59 – What inspired David to change his career plans and become a public school teacher? 7:50 – How did David build and fund a brand-new student support program from scratch? 13:30 – How has the program expanded across the school district over the years? 14:41 – Why did the team design their student framework to focus on long-term life fulfillment rather than just getting into college? 16:52 – How can a dedicated mentor completely change the academic trajectory of a struggling student? 20:46 – What words of encouragement does David offer to educators who are feeling overwhelmed or losing faith in their work? 25:25 – How did David turn online writing exercises into a structured summer essay curriculum for his students? 32:20 – What are the college acceptance statistics for the bootcamp students? 34:51 – How does David help his students continue their college application journeys independently after the summer workshop ends? 35:33 – Tom shares his own background story of how he first started working with College Essay Guy 37:26 – How can strong student advocacy help an applicant's unique story stand out during the review process? 38:23 – How can collaborations with local CBOs and college representatives help first-generation students access high-quality resources? 43:16 – What are the biggest cultural and mindset shifts required to help students navigate the college application process more effectively? 44:25 – How can schools guide first-generation families on college and class choices as early as possible? 49:19 – How can counselors help students highlight collaboration and teamwork on their applications? 50:42 – What are the practical logistics and daily structure of David's student bootcamp? 58:03 – How can schools leverage real admissions officers and guest experts to inspire and guide applicants? 1:01:39 – What has David learned over the years from putting together his program? 1:05:56 – Closing thoughts and advice for counselors Resources: CEG's College Admission Nutrients (aka The Great College Application Test) Paying for College in Four Steps College Essay Guy's Values Exercise College Essay Guy's Essence Objects Exercise College Essay Guy's 21 Details Exercise College Essay Essentials The Matchlighters Scholars Program College Essay Guy's Supplemental Essay Guides College Essay Guy's Personal Statement Resources College Essay Guy's College Application Hub

Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College
Northeast Mississippi Community College President Dr. Ricky G. Ford and Marketing and Public Relations Specialist Liz Calvery look at some of the big projects that the college has going on on the Booneville campus. Ford highlights the ongoing renovations to the men's residence hall -- White Hall - and the significant improvements taking place to enhance student living spaces. He also discusses the Career Technical Education (CTE) build-out at the former Corinthian building on MS-4, noting the multi-phase approach with the first stage set to begin in late summer or early fall of 2026 to develop new classroom spaces. By relocating a majority of the college's CTE programs to the new facility, additional space will become available on the Booneville campus to expand healthcare programs and increase the number of graduates in high-demand medical fields. Ford also provides an update on the Seth Pounds Auditorium renovation, sharing that contractors are on schedule -- and in some cases ahead -- with completion now anticipated in spring 2027. Ford also discusses the Public Safety Training Center that will make Northeast one of the premier locations for training of public safety officials in the state. In addition, Ford touches on several other campus improvement projects, emphasizing that each carries its own timeline but will ultimately enhance the overall student experience in meaningful ways. Plus, get the latest updates on athletics, academics, workforce development, and all the incredible things happening at one of the nation's premier community colleges.

What should high school curlers actually be doing during the off-season? In this episode, I share my own journey from a high school curler who wanted bigger takeout weight and better sweeping, to spending countless hours in the gym following random hockey programs I found online. While some of that training helped, there are also a lot of things I wish someone had taught me sooner. If I could go back and do it all again, I'd focus less on chasing workouts and more on building a foundation that would improve both my curling performance and my long-term athletic development. In this episode, you'll learn: • Why aerobic fitness matters more for curlers than most athletes realize • The strength training fundamentals every young curler should master • Why consistency beats intensity every time • The biggest mistakes I see high school curlers make during the summer • How to balance strength training, cardio, brushing work, mobility, and other sports • Why learning to train properly now can benefit you long after your curling career ends Whether you're a high school athlete, parent, or coach, this episode will help you build a smarter roadmap for the off-season and make the most of the opportunities summer provides. Mentioned in this Episode High School Curling Athlete Program (see below) Dryland brushing setup Free workouts Connect with Coach Steph If you're looking for a structured plan instead of trying to piece everything together yourself, check out the High School Curling Athlete Program (2 months or 3 months) or the EP Lab for step-by-step guidance throughout the off-season. Remember: you don't need to do everything this summer. Focus on getting a little stronger, a little fitter, a little more mobile, a little better at brushing, and a little more consistent each week. Those small improvements add up. Logan Holloman | Next Gen Pastor | June 21, 2026 Referenced Scripture: Romans 12:3-8, Luke 10:18-20 Reflection Questions: 1. The Mirror QuestionWhen you think about yourself, what voices most influence how you see yourself (success, failure, social media, family expectations, work, appearance, etc.)? How does the gospel challenge or reshape those voices? 2. Sober JudgmentPaul calls us to "think of yourself with sober judgment" (Romans 12:3).Why do you think Paul warns against thinking too highly of ourselves? How can thinking too poorly of ourselves also become a form of self-focus?Follow-up: Which tendency do you struggle with more—self-exaltation or self-deprecation? 3. Grace and GiftsPaul emphasized that our gifts are "grace-gifts"—something received, not achieved. How does viewing your abilities, opportunities, and spiritual gifts as gifts of grace change the way you think about yourself and others?Follow-up: Is there a gift God has given you that you could steward more intentionally for the benefit of others? 4. Belonging to the BodyWe concluded with the idea that life in Christ is not about being the center, but about belonging and serving. What does it practically look like for you to move from asking "What about me?" to asking "How can I serve?" in your family, workplace, friendships, or church community this week?Follow-up: Is there a specific way God may be inviting you to contribute to the life of the body rather than simply consume from it? UT Martin Head Coach Jeremy Shulman joins the Slappin' Glass podcast for a deep dive into building a defensive system around conviction, trade-offs, and player fit.Shulman discusses the philosophy behind his unique defensive approach, including why his teams lean toward containment, switch heavily, borrow matchup-zone principles without playing zone, and still find ways to generate turnovers without relying on full-court pressure. He also details how he thinks about solving mismatches after switches, layering post coverage, recruiting for basketball IQ, and turning rotations and closeouts into a strength. In the “Start, Sub, or Sit” segment, Shulman breaks down attacking hedge coverage, including flipping the screen, RAM screens, and re-screens, before sharing broader thoughts on pick-and-roll offense, the power of the pass, and studying ideas that genuinely fit who you are as a coach. What you'll learn Why defensive identity has to begin with what a coach truly believes in How Shulman blends man-to-man, switching, and matchup-zone principles Why switching everything can reduce confusion against slips, ghosts, and misdirection How UT Martin thinks about post mismatches, doubles, digs, and defensive layers Why putting two on the ball can create steals without becoming a pressure team How scouting, film, and player processing shape scramble defense and closeouts Why trust is the hardest thing to build quickly in the current roster-building era How agents and NIL have changed the way coaches think about buy-in The teaching details behind flipping ball screens against hedge coverage Why Shulman views pick-and-roll as a way to move the ball, not just create downhill scoringTo join coaches and championship winning staffs from the NBA to High School from over 70 different countries taking advantage of an SG Plus membership, visit HERE!

Tiger Talk Podcast by Northeast Mississippi Community College
Northeast Mississippi Community College President Dr. Ricky G. Ford and Marketing and Community Relations Specialist Liz Calvery talk about the impact Northeast has on students. Ford reflects on the lasting impact of the college experience and what truly matters when students look back on their time at Northeast. Beyond assignments, exams, and late nights of studying, he emphasizes the personal growth that defines a student's journey—finding their voice, building confidence, and discovering strengths they may not have known they possessed. Ford shares how meaningful moments both inside and outside the classroom—from speaking up for the first time to forming friendships and connecting with faculty—shape not only academic success but personal development. He underscores that college is not just about earning a degree, but about learning how to think, adapt, persevere, and grow through challenges, even when that growth is uncomfortable. At its core, Ford explains, the value of a Northeast education lies in preparing students not just for a career, but for life—equipping them with resilience, curiosity, and the ability to keep moving forward when faced with adversity. It is about what students carry with them long after they leave campus: not only knowledge, but character. Plus, get the latest updates on athletics, academics, workforce development, and all the incredible things happening at one of the nation's premier community colleges.

Jimmy and Tyler are back from very different weekends that somehow both ended the same way: hanging out with people you don’t see enough, doing stuff you love, and getting home before dark. Tyler took his toddler, Reid, out on the Rubicon for the first time, joining the Mad Hatters’ annual run at Loon. The trip came with an unexpected education: when you normally run sweep, you get out at every stop and help people. When you’re strapped to the car with a two-year-old, you’re sitting in the driver’s seat watching everyone else work for 15-minute stretches while your kid starts losing patience. By the time the group reached Spider Bowl around 10:30 am, Tyler pulled off at a campsite, radioed a goodbye, had lunch, and watched a Toyota pickup spend 30 minutes trying and failing to get up Super Bowl while Reid stood in the bed pointing at things and making everyone laugh. Two hours there, then out solo with Reid in the front seat, the air compressor cycling the rear locker, and Reid looking over every time to announce “dad tooting.” Home before 4 pm. Left at 5 am. Not a bad day. Jimmy left the assistant on her last day of school and drove up to dispersed camping near Bowman Road off Highway 20 — a trip organized around a group of high school friends he doesn’t see nearly enough, some of whom he hasn’t camped with in years. They came with trucks, a rooftop tent, a box of whiskey, handguns, a .22 rifle, Brandon’s breakfast burritos, and a set of homemade medallion awards for the weekend’s various competitions. The competitions included a shooting match (7 shooters, 10 rounds apiece at three stations — 210 shots hit paper across the board, which Jimmy found genuinely impressive), forest bocce (where bocce balls bounce off rocks and go 90 degrees), and a campfire tending category. Jimmy got fourth in the shooting competition, first in fire. He also got shot, sort of — a ricochet fragment hit one of the guys in the shoulder and another in the shin, both minor, first aid kits came out, everyone reevaluated, then they ran the formal shooting competition anyway. The guy who got hit (Michael — friend of a friend, first time meeting) turned out to be a serious whiskey person. Jimmy is also a serious whiskey person. Neither of them knew the other was bringing four bottles. They spent hours trading sips and talking. It was a great trip. They’re making it annual. Ever wonder where your high school diploma actually is? Neither do we... until somehow it became the most important question of the day.On this episode, the gang takes a nostalgic trip back to the golden age of SportsCenter, remembering the legendary Stuart Scott and the iconic catchphrases that basically raised an entire generation of sports fans. One minute we're honoring broadcasting greatness, the next we're discussing football injuries, old ESPN rivalries, and why "Booyah!" deserves a comeback tour. Then things get weird. Really weird.A local neighborhood dispute explodes after a mystery lawn vigilante decides someone's yard isn't meeting community standards and takes matters into his own hands. Unfortunately, the unauthorized landscaping project allegedly turns into a bunny apocalypse, sparks Nextdoor drama, and launches one of the most ridiculous debates we've had in a while. Is No Mow May helping the environment, or is it just a fancy excuse to avoid yard work? The jury is still out.Speaking of questionable life choices, the crew discovers that almost nobody knows where their high school diploma is. For years we were told this magical piece of paper would unlock life's opportunities, yet somehow none of us can locate ours and nobody has ever asked to see it. Naturally, this evolves into a campaign for honorary degrees from every college in the St. Louis area. If you're a university administrator listening right now, we're accepting applications.Meanwhile, New York basketball fans continue proving that sports can bring people together... specifically to collectively tackle a guy wearing the wrong jersey. The crew reacts to viral videos of playoff mayhem, debates fan behavior, and wonders how anyone survives walking through an angry crowd while representing the opposing team. The internet also delivers one of the most frustrating viral parenting moments we've seen in a long time. A little girl flips off an elderly man at a grocery store, the mom decides to defend the behavior, and the internet responds exactly the way you'd expect. It's one of those stories where every second somehow makes things worse.Plus:The return of "Booyah!"SportsCenter nostalgiaMissing diplomasHonorary college degreesCharles Barkley vs. ShaqNo Mow May controversyBunny protection programsNeighborhood lawn vigilantesDowntown St. Louis food hall newsKnicks fan insanityViral parenting failsRatio Jury DutyIt's another completely normal daily comedy show from people who somehow turn every conversation into an argument about lawn maintenance, rabbits, and academic credentials. If you enjoy weird news, pop culture commentary, St. Louis conversations, and a group of adults spending way too much time discussing documents nobody can find, this episode is exactly the kind of chaos you're looking for.The daily comedy show continues proving that no topic is too small, no internet video is too ridiculous, and no honorary doctorate is beyond our reach.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
