"In the blink of a crinkling eye, I'm sinking, our fingers entwined." This week, we're deep diving one of The Tortured Poets Department's most nostalgic and playful tracks: "So High School." We explore how this Aaron Dessner collaboration captures the giddiness of adult romance that feels refreshingly simple and unguarded—like being transported back to those butterflies-in-your-stomach moments of teenage crushes. From twinkling lights to truth or dare, we unpack how Taylor Swift uses high school imagery not to describe where she is, but how love makes her feel. Spoiler: we giggle our way through this episode like the high schoolers we once were. In this episode of Wake Up, Look Up, Pastor Zach asks the question: do we ever leave high school? Using the recent trend of cigarette smoking among Gen Z as a starting point, he explores how we're all influenced by culture, celebrities, and social media, often in ways that are spiritually harmful. He encourages listeners to stop chasing “cool” and instead anchor their lives in Jesus Christ, the ultimate source of guidance, purpose, and healthy influence.Have an article you'd like Pastor Zach to discuss? Some people find acupuncture after a twisted ankle, a twist of fate, or some stubborn health condition that finally surrenders to a few needles. But every now and then you meet someone who caught the spark early—before the world had a chance to talk them out of their own curiosity. In this conversation with Will Martin, we trace the path of a high-school kid who dove headfirst into Chinese medicine—ordering textbooks at sixteen, poring over ideas he could barely pronounce, and never letting that fascination go. Will brings a mix of youthful boldness and genuine reverence for the medicine. He's thoughtful about the landscape of healthcare, clear-eyed about the challenges in our field, and articulate in how he sees acupuncture stepping more fully into the role of primary care.Listen into this discussion as we explore why he thinks the medicine needs less defensiveness and more confidence, what it means to keep your treatments simple, how to stand in your authority as a new practitioner, and why the future of acupuncture might be brighter than we've been telling ourselves.

Mailbag questions or topic suggestions? Text us!A cupcake caper, an Unreal-powered mansion, and a question every youth leader wrestles with: should we separate junior high and high school? We sit down with student pastor Michelle Kruse from Summit Christian Church to unpack how age-intentional programming can transform engagement without requiring a bigger building or a bigger budget. Michelle walks us through their midweek system that alternates middle school and high school in the same space, why the teaching style shifts for each group, and how small groups, worship, and pace change when you design for real developmental stages. We also explore the hidden engine of healthy transitions: a purposeful preteen ministry. Michelle shares how she launched a fourth and fifth grade service, then empowered a part-time couple—both teachers—to lead with Orange curriculum, accessible teaching, and consistent small groups. The result is a smoother handoff into student ministry, monthly fifth-grade previews of midweek, and camp experiences that ease anxiety. One of our favorite moments: why the car ride home with a parent might be the most important discipleship moment for preteens. If you're navigating limited space, limited volunteers, or mixed-age expectations, this conversation offers practical tactics you can try tomorrow: teaching twice in one night, swapping spaces, recruiting part-time leaders, and inviting high schoolers to serve in preteen or middle school to keep mentorship alive. We also get honest about quality tradeoffs, leader health, and how to read your context so you can separate where it matters most and still sustain a life-giving pace.Subscribe, share this episode with a fellow youth leader, and leave a review with one change you're considering for your next gathering—we'd love to hear what you'll try first.

As a mom, Whitney was chief cook and bottle-washer, which was hard. But as a homeschooling mom, she was also a guidance counselor, which was a million times harder. During the 10 years she spent steering her oldest along the path to college and career — with a full ride, no less! — she conducted hundreds of hours of research. And somewhere along the line, people started to ask Whitney for advice. It seemed that in her quest to give her kids my best, she'd unwittingly gained a reputation as something of an expert on how to launch your teen. In our conversation, Whitney and I discussed: College admissions for “average families with average teens.” The college admissions misconceptions that families in the middle need to let go of. Some lesser-known strategies families can use to cut the time and cost of college without sacrificing quality. The challenges that homeschool families face in the college application process. What makes them feel humble? 2. Paul starts by reminding us of what we already have in Christ (encouragement, love, the Spirit). Which of those do you most need to remember right now? 3. Where do you currently see disunity (in church, family, relationships), and how might pride or self-interest be playing a role? 4. Paul defines humility as valuing others above ourselves. What is one concrete way you could “look to the interests of others” this week? 5. Jesus' descent in Philippians 2 (not grasping privilege, becoming a servant, embracing weakness, obedience) —Which part of His humility impacts you most? 6. (For comparison, 2024 NCAA 5,000 National Champion Parker Wolfe ran 15:10 in 2020).He has benefited from the consistency of running for coach Lisa Rainsberger for the previous 10 years.Oliver's PR on the grass is a sizzling 14:23.9, which he ran this past September. On the track he ran 4:08.93 in the mile outdoors and 8:54.94 in the 3200m. Every generation has its defining runner. For Colorado, for 2025, and maybe for the nation, Oliver Horton is making his case. The records speak. The rankings confirm it. But the story behind it all? That's what we're digging into. Today, we get to learn from Matthew Paneitz, founder and executive director of Long Way Home. This organization built Hero School, a student-built and community-built campus in San Juan Comalapa, Guatemala.Built from recycled tires and trash, the campus took 16 years to build and serves 178 students enrolled in PreK through High School. Would you partner notice if you 'quiet quit' your relationship? You know, quietly moving into separate bedrooms, watching all your own shows in different rooms of the house at night, never socialising together, taking separate holidays... Plenty of people are doing it, and probably always have. So, is it always a bad thing? And is it possible to un-quit?Also, Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo and the world's most-irritating press tour. Yes, Wicked For Good is out and you will not have missed the two stars coo-ing over each other on global red carpets. Are they the world's greatest girlfriends, or are they playing us? And when did press tours become performance art? And... what are high school reunions for? It's long been predicted that social-media-stalking has killed the reunion, but Amelia just went to her 25th and she had a revelation. In this episode, we sit down with Quincy Tennyson, who teaches an impressive four-year computer science pathway at Fern Creek High School. Quincy's background in the Marine Corps and as a network engineer brings a unique perspective to CS education. He discusses his curriculum progression from introductory courses through AP Computer Science Principles (heavily inspired by UC Berkeley's CS61A), AP Computer Science A (Java), and a culminating Project-Based Programming course. We dive deep into his philosophy of being a "warm demander" - setting high expectations while providing intensive coaching and support. The conversation touches on several compelling topics including teaching agile methodology to high school students, the importance of transparency about failure, and how behavioral economics concepts (from thinkers like Daniel Kahneman) inform his approach to helping students understand their own thinking processes. Quincy also shares insights on supporting underserved students, running a successful Girls Who Code chapter, and navigating the integration of AI tools in the classroom. His students' enthusiasm at PyCon 2024 was infectious, and this episode reveals the thoughtful pedagogy behind their success. Key resources mentioned include CS61A from UC Berkeley (https://cs61a.org/), CodeHS (https://codehs.com/), Code.org (https://code.org/), Sandra McGuire's book "Teach Students How to Learn," Eric Matthes' Python Crash Course (https://nostarch.com/python-crash-course-3rd-edition), and Al Sweigart's (https://alsweigart.com/) educational resources including his new Buttonpad library for Tkinter.
