Rounding out the second half(?) of the 1990s, Waits explores collaborations with old friends and some unusual covers, as well as the building of experimental musical instruments, including his own mouth. Former high school teacher, Gabriel Gipe, joins the show to tell his story of being set up and targeted by the right-wing organization Project Veritas, the subsequent relentless harrassment of him and his family by conservative news outlets, fascist organizations, and other right wing extremists, including the Proud Boys, which culminated in him losing his career. He tells his story as both a warning to other educators and to reveal the strategies deployed by various forces within the right-wing ecosystem in this country to bully, intimidate, harrass, silence, and even asssault their political opponents. My guest this week is Grammy winning producer and engineer, Oz Fritz. Oz is the man behind many amazing sonic masterpieces, including a number that we hold in high esteem on this show. In particular, John Hammond's "Wicked Grin" and Tom Waits' "Mule Variations". But those 2 faves aside, he has collaborated on over 60 projects with John Zorn and Bill Laswell and has worked on albums for Iggy Pop, The Master Musicians of Joujouka and many more. Oh, and I found out he made a rap album for Hulk Hogan in his early days! We got a chance to talk through all that and more. Enjoy my conversation with Oz Fritz, and please subscribe to the podcast for free on iTunes!

In Episode 4 of the podcast, I speak with the legendary blues artist John Hammond. John has had an incredible career that spans over 5 decades. Since his debut in 1965, John has recorded over 40 albums, and has worked with luminaries in the field such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, The Band, Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and many more. During the 70's and 80's John stayed true to his roots and almost singlehandedly kept the solo country and delta blues styles alive. John and I had a great conversation that touched on his guitar playing, his recording history, a memorable night in New York that had him playing with BOTH Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton in his band, signing numerous record deals that never seemed to quite work out, how the Wicked Grin record with Tom Waits almost never happened, and lots more!
SHOW #299 - Live, Uncut & Uncensored Conversations With "Musicians You Should Know" In 1970, Al Basile was the first to receive a Master’s Degree from the Brown University Writing Program. He has worked with the Duke Robillard Band as a songwriter and recording member since 1990, appearing on twelve CDs and a DVD. He has nine solo blues and roots CDs out under his own name. He has been nominated four times, in 2010, 2012, 2013, ad 2014, for a Blues Music Award as best horn player. His new album is B’s Expressions and Al and I will chat about his remarkable career and the new music. Murray Kinsley & Wicked Grin are an Ottawa based original roots rock/blues band. Their sophomore album, Shame On Me (2013) was released to critical acclaim and wide-spread airplay in North America. In 2014 the band won the Maple Blues Award for New Artist of the Year. Shame On Me was named Best Canadian Blues Rock Album of 2014 by The Blues Underground Network. They have a new album out entitled Stormy Water and I will chat with the band about their music and plans. Dick LeMasters first sat on The Couch back in April of 2015 when we spoke about his career and album One Bird, Two Stones. Tonight he returns for a Couch Kid New Music Segment to share his new album, Gasoline & Fire. I’ll chat with Dick and find out what his year has been like and about the recording of the new album. Jonn Del Toro Richardson joined me twice in 2013. The first time from Europe with Sean Carney to talk about their album, and then by himself to discuss his career while we listened to songs from past albums. Well now, Jonn has a new album, Tengo Blues and he and I will talk about the new music and more.
