We discuss why North America's largest construction trade show, CONEXPO, is launching a new “Ground Breakers Stage” specifically aimed at spotlighting future innovation ahead, how industry leading trade associations like AEM and ABC took a ‘mixed fleet' outlook to collaborate on their respective innovation trends and efforts to bolster CONEXPO 2026, how AI-enabled heavy machinery autonomy specifically will be a major point of focus this year (and why that only further emphasizes the critical human element involved in all of this!), and finally why the broader set of digital tools permeating these sectors has moved from optional to a near must-do in your operations.

Why This Episode Is a Must-Listen Think managing family finances is all about spreadsheets and wills? Think again. "Money Talks: The Family Finance Conversations Nobody Is Having" dives deep into the real, emotional, and sometimes uncomfortable money talks that can make or break family relationships, and even impact your financial future. The episode delivers practical tips, expert perspectives, and real-life stories that will help you strengthen trust and open communication across generations. If you care about protecting your family and your money, this conversation is essential viewing. Meet the Expert Panelists Dr. Moira Somers is a psychologist, family wealth consultant, and executive coach who specializes in the psychology of money, advising individuals, families, and institutions worldwide. She is the international bestselling author of Advice That Sticks and a faculty member at the UHNW Institute and Sudden Money Institute, and she is a leading voice on why financial advice succeeds or fails at the human level. Dr. Somers is a co-founder and Chief Learning Officer at Blackwood Family Enterprise Services. https://moneymindandmeaning.com Lynnette Khalfani-Cox, The Money Coach®, is the Founder of the Financial Influencer Network and a nationally recognized personal finance expert. She is the author of 16 books, including the New York Times bestseller Zero Debt and her latest book, Bounce Back: The Ultimate Guide to Financial Resilience. A former CNBC commentator and Wall Street Journal reporter with more than 1,000 television appearances, Lynnette helps families and organizations build practical, multigenerational financial confidence through her articles, media appearances, and the Financial Influencer Network's education-driven initiatives. https://lynnettekhalfanicox.com Scheduled but was not able to join due to travel delays. Bobbi Rebell, CFP®, is the founder of Financial Wellness Strategies and the author of Launching Financial Grownups, a go-to guide for helping (almost) adult kids become money smart. A former global business news anchor at Thomson Reuters and frequent media expert quoted by outlets including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and CNBC, she brings deep expertise at the intersection of money, parenting, and real-life decision-making. https://bobbirebell.com Key Highlights: 1. Breaking the Silence on Tough Conversations According to Dr. Moira Somers, many families avoid uncomfortable discussions about aging, health, and money—which only leads to bigger problems later. She encourages families to plan ahead: "If you have [these conversations] a decade at least in advance...you can be thoughtful and caring and have, you know, be candid about how hard it might be." Proactively talking about financial help, household changes, and even when to stop driving sets the stage for smoother transitions. 2. Family Loans: More Than Money on the Line Lynnette Khalfani-Cox sheds light on why family loans so often turn sour. She urges clarity: "If you know...whoever you're loaning money to has already not paid you back...take off the rose colored glasses." She notes it's vital to formalize these deals to avoid resentment and preserve relationships—because loans can impact family bonds for years, not just bank accounts. 3. Preparing for Legacy and Heirlooms Both panelists agree: settling an estate isn't just legal—it's deeply emotional. Transparent processes, open inventory, and discussing "the why" behind gifts and heirlooms help families avoid the heartbreak of sibling feuds. Dr. Somers adds, "We ask heirlooms and possessions to do things that they were never capable of doing." The episode explores how sharing your intentions openly—while you're still here—can bring families closer together. 4. Blended Families Need Extra Clarity Blended families face even more complexity. Lynnette Khalfani-Cox emphasizes the importance of communication, aligning on values, and using structures like prenuptial agreements and QTIP trusts to protect everyone's interests. Discussing obligations and honoring prior commitments sets the foundation for multi-generational wealth and stability. Call-to-Action One thing to do this week: start one conversation you've been putting off. It could be asking your parents where key documents are, setting expectations with an adult child, or clarifying a financial boundary. You don't need all the answers. You just need to open the door. Peter Somers werd Motion Graphic Designer dankzij Star Wars. Hij is zelfs een Star Wars-native, opgegroeid met de originele trilogie.Toen Disney met de sequel-trilogie begon, was hij nog redelijk enthousiast. Over 'The Last Jedi' schreef hij destijds zelfs: "Awesome!" THE SOMERS MUTINY: SPENCER AND CAPTAIN MACKENZIE Colleague Richard Snow. Snow introduces the Somers mutiny, focusing on midshipman Philip Spencer, a troubled youth obsessed with pirates, and Captain Mackenzie. Mackenzie, who changed his name for an inheritance, is described as a "flogging captain" with a literary reputation and a morbid fascination with executions, setting the stage for tragedy. NUMBER 5
THE OVERCROWDED SOMERS AND SPENCER'S ISOLATION Colleague Richard Snow. Snow describes the Somers as a fast, overcrowded school ship filled with teenage midshipmen. He details Spencer's isolation due to his physical disability and surly demeanor. Spencer violated protocol by mingling with the crew, while Mackenzie's rigid discipline clashed with the conditions on the small, flush-deck vessel. NUMBER 6

The USS Somers: Midshipman Philip Spencer's Pirate Obsession and Captain Mackenzie's Taste for Violence.Richard Snow's book, Sailing the Graveyard Sea, recounts the 1842 voyage of the USS Somers, the US Navy's only mutiny. The mutiny centered on Midshipman Philip Spencer, born in 1824, son of prominent lawyer John Spencer. Philip was a difficult, unruly dreamer who withdrew into pirate stories, donating the massive The Pirate's Own Book to his school library. His father secured Philip a naval berth, hoping strict discipline would reform him. Spencer joined as a junior midshipman and quickly became isolated. He was walleyed, giving him a "slightly scary gaze" that could be interpreted as untrustworthy. The commander was Lieutenant Alexander Slidell Mackenzie, whose fame rested on A Year in Spain, largely ghostwritten by Washington Irving. Despite his respectable marriage, Mackenzie harbored a "tragic detail": he was a violent, flogging captain who wrote with "lubricious detail" about attending public hangings. The Somersset sail in September 1842 for Africa with a crew of 120, consisting of only 30 mature sailors. 1861
The Overgunned School Ship: Conditions Aboard the USS Somers. Richard Snow discusses how the USS Somers, a beautiful and fast ship, was small—only 100 feet long—and overgunned with ten 32-pounders. The crew consisted of 120 people, with only about 30 mature sailors and the remaining majority being midshipmen meant to learn basic seamanship. The vessel was very crowded. Midshipman Philip Spencer was isolated from other midshipmen and began consorting with the common crew, which was highly inappropriate. Spencer had money to spend on forbidden items.
The Fateful Secret: Mackenzie's Panic and the Wardroom's Verdict of Death. Richard Snow discusses how the crisis began on Friday, November 24, 1842, when Philip Spencer detailed his plot to crew member Wales, claiming to have recruited at least 20 people to turn the Somers into a pirate ship. Wales reported the plot to First Lieutenant Gansevoort, who reported to Captain Mackenzie. Mackenzie initially dismissed the claim but quickly became convinced and panicky, ordering Gansevoort to spy on Spencer. On Saturday, Mackenzie confronted Spencer and had him put in irons. Mackenzie grew increasingly suspicious, eventually arresting Boatswain's Mate Cromwell and Seaman Small. The ship's environment became one of "collective insanity" and extreme paranoia. Mackenzie suspiciously delegated the choice by asking his wardroom officers to convene an investigation, and the officers delivered a verdict: for the safety of the vessel, Spencer, Small, and Cromwell had to die. Despite being only hours from fortified land in the Virgin Islands, the verdict was executed.
The Somers Trial: Mackenzie's Defense, Dana's Support, and the Presidential Intervention. Richard Snow discusses how after the execution, the Navy initiated an inquiry. Richard Henry Dana fully supported Mackenzie, describing him as saintly and honorable. The court of inquiry agreed that Mackenzie had behaved honorably. However, Mackenzie surprisingly sought a formal court-martial because John Spencer and Seaman Small's wife were pressuring for a civil murder trial. The court-martial ran from February 2 to March 31 and initially concluded that Mackenzie was honorably acquitted and heroic. However, President Tyler intervened, refusing to endorse the verdict and believing Mackenzie should have been hanged as a murderer. Mackenzie was acquitted and avoided a murder trial, but his honor was tarnished. Snow recommends readers act as the jury to decide Mackenzie's actions. Retry

Study Guide This week's learning is sponsored by Aunt Elayne, Fredjs, Hageges, Somers, Greenstones, and Pilichowskis in honor of Lana Kerzner's birthday. "We admire so much how you continue the Greenstone family legacy of intellectual curiosity coupled with daily dedication to learning and Judaism." Reish Lakish interprets Rabbi Meir’s position in a Mishna in Menachot as holding that an offering becomes pigul not due to improper intent during part of the matir (the enabling act), but rather when improper intent occurs during the first stage, and the second stage is performed without any intent, the second stage is still governed by the initial improper thought. Rabbi Shmuel bar Yitzchak disagrees, asserting that Rabbi Meir maintains one can render an offering pigul even through improper intent during part of an action. Two difficulties are raised against Reish Lakish’s explanation based on two halakhot in the Tosefta. Regarding the first, three attempts are made to resolve the contradiction, but each faces its own challenge. One difficulty is also raised against Rabbi Shmuel bar Yitzchak’s position, but it is successfully resolved.

WFAN legend Steve Somers joins BT & Sal live to promote his new book, "Me Here, You There," and things get fiery! Somers doesn't hold back, diving deep into the "controversial" history of his midday pairing with Russ Salzberg, labeling it a difficult "good cop, bad cop" situation. He defends his honesty about Salzberg's low solo ratings and non-radio style, recalling the strained relationship and Salzberg's mockery of the "Fearless Forecaster." Somers also reflects on the "intimate" nature of radio, the "treacherous" side of the broadcasting business, and shares his appreciation for the WFA community and the show's history.
WFAN legends collide as Steve Somers joins BT & Sal live in the studio to promote his new book, Me Here, You There (out November 18th). Somers delivers his signature unscripted insights, revealing his path from a kid on the Left Coast to a defining voice in New York sports. He reflects on his "intimate connection" with the listeners, the Mets adopting him, and wild career moments, including watching the Immaculate Reception film with John Madden and getting into the ring with Muhammad Ali. Somers also shares the surprising (and forbidden) gambling-related origin of his famous "over the night and under the covers" catchphrase, weighs in on which sport has changed the most (football!), and explains why he can't go to the dentist!
BT & Sal welcome legendary WFAN host Steve Somers to the studio to discuss his new book, Me Here, You There, available for pre-order on November 18th. The interview is fiery and deeply personal, covering his incredible career journey, from boxing three rounds with Muhammad Ali and watching the Immaculate Reception with John Madden, to his decades at WFAN. Somers reveals sensitive, never-before-heard stories about overcoming prostate cancer and his struggle with alcoholism (which led to a 30-day rehab stint) while working the overnight shift. He also offers honest, behind-the-scenes takes on his difficult midday pairing with Russ Salzberg and details his unlikely friendship and correspondence with Jerry Seinfeld, who wrote the book's foreword.
Angelo Somers is a content creator, YouTuber, and author. Why does life sometimes feel like it's lost its meaning? What happens when Deleuze and Hegel are set in violent philosophical encounter over the ruins of Kantian representation? In this episode, we explore how both thinkers attempt to move beyond the categories of judgment and identity to recover the genesis of sense itself. Henry Somers-Hall joins us to trace Deleuze's path through Kant, Sartre, and Bergson toward a field of pre-individual difference and immanent synthesis. What emerges is a portrait of thought that no longer begins with the subject, but with the forces that make thinking possible.Extended Conversation (Patrons Only) In the extended discussion, we turn to the politics of the practical in Kant, Fichte, and Hegel—and ask whether Deleuze's constructivism truly escapes the metaphysical State. Henry also reflects on what it means to make oneself a body without organs and where he sees the next frontier for Deleuzian thought.Hegel, Deleuze, and the Critique of Representation: Dialectics of Negation and Difference: https://sunypress.edu/Books/H/Hegel-Deleuze-and-the-Critique-of-RepresentationAlso: https://archive.org/details/hegeldeleuzecrit0000someSupport the showSupport the podcast:Current classes at Acid Horizon Research Commons (AHRC): https://www.acidhorizonpodcast.com/ahrc-mainWebsite: https://www.acidhorizonpodcast.com/Linktree: https://linktr.ee/acidhorizonAcid Horizon on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/acidhorizonpodcast Boycott Watkins Media: https://xenogothic.com/2025/03/17/boycott-watkins-statement/ Join The Schizoanalysis Project: https://discord.gg/4WtaXG3QxnSubscribe to us on your favorite podcast: https://pod.link/1512615438Merch: http://www.crit-drip.comSubscribe to us on your favorite podcast platform: https://pod.link/1512615438 LEPHT HAND: https://www.patreon.com/LEPHTHANDHappy Hour at Hippel's (Adam's blog): https://happyhourathippels.wordpress.comSplit Infinities (Craig's Substack): https://splitinfinities.substack.com/Music: https://sereptie.bandcamp.com/ and https://thecominginsurrection.bandcamp.com/
