Episode #311 of Blues From The Ouse delivers two hours of carefully curated blues, spanning brand-new releases, deep roots classics, powerful themes and listener-selected favourites. We open the show with fresh blues releases, featuring new music from Selwyn Birchwood, Robert John & The Wreck, Alex Lopez, and Ally Venable, including a Grammy-timed re-release with Buddy Guy. Expect modern electric swamp blues, retro revival sounds and blues-rock that bends the rules just enough. The first themed set, “The Legal Blues”, explores songs of judges, juries, prisons and punishment. From Furry Lewis and Bukka White's Parchman Farm Blues to Joe Bonamassa's cinematic re-working of Prisoner and Sonny Boy Williamson II's courtroom classic Your Funeral And My Trial, this is blues born from hard time and harder truths.Next, “Sight Unseen” shines a light on musicians who lost their sight but sharpened their sound. Featuring Ray Charles, The Blind Boys of Alabama, Sonny Terry, and Jeff Healey, this set celebrates artists whose hearing, feel and phrasing changed the shape of blues music forever. The second hour is all about listener requests, digging deep beyond algorithm playlists. Tracks come from Chicago Bob and the Blues Squad, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Hitman Blues Band, Canyon Lights, Sherman Robertson, The Zac Schulze Gang, and more — plus the latest Blues From The Ouse Gig Round-Up, highlighting upcoming UK blues shows and festivals. We wind the night down with The Great Divide, tracing the crossover between blues and country with The Allman Brothers Band, Freddie King, Eric Clapton, Mudcrutch, and Area Code 615.If you love modern blues, classic blues, UK blues radio, deep themes, and music with a story to tell, this episode is for you.#311 Blues From The Ouse Playlist:Blues From The Ouse - Show Intro - 00:00:00Selwyn Birchwood - The Church Of Electric Swamp Funkin' Blues - 00:02:05Robert Jon & The Wreck - Old Man - 00:10:02Alex Lopez - Your Lovin' - 00:13:08Ally Venable Band (ft. In October 2025 Karl Budge was appointed as the new Blues CEO. Budge has previously served as the CEO of the ASB Classic, and been involved in the New Zealand Olympic Committee, SailGP, and the New Zealand Rugby Board. He joined Jason Pine to chat about plans and strategies for the Blues in 2026. On his relationship with other Rugby Union CEO's Budge said, "there's 80% that we get on like a house on fire, and want to collaborate and work together, and then there's 20% that we want to flog each other - and I quite like that dynamic." This week on Blues From The Ouse, we explore how the blues is passed down through brothers, bloodlines, and generations, alongside a powerful selection of brand-new releases and listener-chosen favourites. We open the show with the latest new blues releases, including Lil' Magic Sam, Ross Neilson, Mississippi Shakedown, and Angel Ocasio Jr., showcasing modern blues from the USA, Canada and Australia — from gritty Chicago grooves to roots-soaked soul and lap-steel blues. In our first themed feature, Brothers in Blues, we bring together siblings who share more than just a surname — including The Delgado Brothers, The Cinelli Brothers, Robben Ford and the Ford Blues Band, and the legendary Butler Twins — highlighting how family chemistry shapes blues music across continents and decades. We then dig deeper into blues heritage in Bloodlines, featuring artists who followed legendary parents into the blues — including Devon Allman, Big Bill Morganfield (son of Muddy Waters), and Ronnie Baker Brooks (son of Lonnie Brooks), tracing how blues history continues through the generations.Hour two is all about you, with listener requests ranging from Lonnie Brooks and Elles Bailey to The Rolling Stones, Dogshark, Marcus King, and more — plus a packed gig round-up covering York, Leeds, Harrogate, Darlington, Beverley and beyond, including DC Blues, Ryedale Blues Club, Leeds Blues Club and the upcoming York Blues Festival. We wind the night down with modern blues favourites from Joanne Shaw Taylor, Kirk Fletcher, Larry McCray, and a high-energy instrumental from Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble to close the show.Blues From The Ouse is your weekly home for UK blues, classic blues, modern blues, deep cuts, blues heritage, new releases and grassroots gigs — broadcast on Jorvik Radio and available worldwide as a podcast.Hosted by Paul Winn, Ben Darwin & Angie Howe
