Estaríem parlant, molt probablement, d'una de les millors generacions de futbolistes que ha tingut Sitges i en el cas de la Blanca, i els seus més de 60 anys d'història, aquell doble ascens del juvenil, primer a Preferent i després a Nacional (abans d'Divisió d'Honor), es pot considerar com una de les grans fites futbolístiques que es mantenen en el record després de 40 anys. Era el mes de maig de 1987 quan el juvenil de la Blanca es proclamava campió de Catalunya i pujava a Nacional amb un grup de jugadors que tenien quelcom més que bon futbol a les seves cames. Eren amics i es coneixien a la perfecció tant a fora com a dins del terreny de joc. Fins i tot, els que van venir de fora, com el cas, per exemple, de Xavi Escaich, es van saber adaptar a aquella idea de club. Com es va viure tot allò i quin record en queda de tot plegat ara que el futbol, i la vida en general, ha canviat tant?. Hem reunit a quatre futbolistes d'aquell juvenil i n'ha sortit una conversa carregada de bons moments i d'alguna que altra reflexió de vida. There is a sobriety in the Fathers that cuts deeper than anything sentimental, yet within that severity there burns a tenderness that refuses to let the soul perish in despair. It is not even the greatest danger. The true catastrophe is to forget the love of the Father and to abandon the struggle. It is not sin that destroys us in the end, but the turning away from God in despair, the quiet consent that says there is no use in rising again. The Fathers are relentless on this point. Even if a man falls into manifold transgressions, even if each day ends in defeat, still he must not cease. He must rise again, and not reluctantly but with determination, laying once more the foundation of what has been ruined. Not once, not occasionally, but each day. This is where the tenderness of Isaac appears, though it is clothed in the language of battle. He does not demand perfection. He demands endurance. He does not say, do not fall. He says, do not remain fallen. The image he gives is almost unbearable in its honesty. A ship broken, cargo lost, everything swallowed by the deep. The Fathers know the shame of falling, the exhaustion of repeated failure, the temptation to withdraw from the battle. They know the voice that says it is useless to continue. And precisely there they speak with the authority of those who have endured. Continue. Even if wounded. Even if humiliated. Even if the fall is visible to all. Continue. For what is truly terrible is not that a man has sinned, but that he has made peace with sin. Not that he has been struck down, but that he has extended his hand to the enemy and accepted defeat as final. In doing so he loses not only the struggle but the very boldness before God, the freedom of prayer, the communion of the righteous. And yet even here the door is not closed unless the soul itself closes it. The entire exhortation rests on this unspoken but ever-present truth. The Father has not withdrawn His love. The light has not ceased to shine. Even in darkness, the Lord remains a light unto us. So the Christian life is not revealed as a steady triumph, but as a continual rising. Not a life without wounds, but a life that refuses to let wounds become a grave. The saints are not those who never fell, but those who would not consent to remain in the dust. This is the fierce consolation of the desert. As long as there is breath, the battle remains. As long as the battle remains, hope remains. Our card this week is Kenneth "Kenny" Floyd, a Wild Card from Colorado. When Kenneth “Kenny” Floyd was found dead inside his apartment in Aurora, Colorado, in 1995, detectives found a clue they hoped would lead right to his killer — a trail of their suspect's blood leading from Kenny's door to the front of his building. That blood evidence allowed investigators to develop a DNA profile that they traced to one particular island in the Caribbean, bringing them closer than ever to finding answers for Kenny's close-knit family. But a series of volcanic eruptions on the island destroyed the very records investigators needed to ID Kenny's killer. Still, the genealogist working on Kenny's case is hopeful that if more people with ancestry from that island, or the East Coast of the United States, upload their DNA profiles to GEDMatch and select the option to opt-in for law enforcement, she'll be able to fill in the rest of the suspect's family tree….and if she can do that, investigators might be able to finally close this case.  If you have any information on the murder of Kenny Floyd, please contact Aurora Police Department Cold Case Detective Jason McDonald at 303-739-6013 or jamcdona@auroragov.org. Veronica Ryan talks to Ben Luke about her influences—from writers to musicians and, of course, other artists—and the cultural experiences that have shaped her life and work.Ryan was born in 1956 in Plymouth on the Caribbean island of Montserrat and came to the UK as an infant. She now lives between London and New York. She explores personal, collective and historical memory through a range of sculptural materials and processes. Her installations and individual sculptures combine a wealth of things and techniques, often all at once, from found objects to time-honoured sculptural materials like bronze and marble; and from carving to casting and crocheting. Colour plays a vital role in her work, in the varied hues of textiles or plaster. And she creates forms as diverse as seeds and fruits, mats and nets, pillows and blankets and architectural structures. Through arresting and often multilayered arrangements, she evokes the minutiae of everyday experience (often with a profoundly personal meaning), makes reference to resonant historical events and their legacies, and addresses major human themes and rites of passage. She reflects on the meanings embedded in her materials, her relationship with psychoanalysis and unconscious processes, and her distinctive approach to displaying her work. She discusses the early influence of her mother's textiles, her visits to the British Museum and her epiphanic encounter with the work of Eva Hesse and Louise Bourgeois. Montserrat Villar Martín es una reconocida astrofísica, investigadora y divulgadora científica del Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), donde desarrolla su trabajo en el Centro de Astrobiología. La protagonista de este episodio de Aprendemos Juntos, desde niña se sintió fascinada por el cielo, las estrellas y los planetas, una curiosidad que marcaría su trayectoria profesional y que hoy comparte con miles de personas a través de su labor divulgativa. Su carrera combina el rigor científico con una profunda sensibilidad por la historia, la cultura y el arte. Con formación en Física por la Universidad de Granada, Villar Martín ha dedicado su investigación a comprender los procesos físicos del cosmos y el origen de los fenómenos que lo conforman. Su mirada interdisciplinar la llevó a explorar también la historia del arte y la forma en que, a lo largo del tiempo, las distintas civilizaciones han interpretado el cielo. De esa combinación nació su libro Mirar los cielos, donde traza un puente entre ciencia, creatividad y espiritualidad humana. A lo largo de su trayectoria ha defendido la importancia de integrar el pensamiento crítico con la imaginación, entendiendo el universo como un motor de conocimiento, belleza y evolución cultural. Para Villar Martín, observar el cosmos es también una forma de comprendernos como especie y de recordar nuestra necesidad de explorar, cuestionar y maravillarnos.
