PANS and PANDAS are among the most misunderstood—and frequently requested—topics in the therapy world. In this episode, Lisa is joined by Dr. Montserrat Casado for a thoughtful, compassionate conversation on how these conditions impact children, families, and the therapeutic process. Together, they explore what PANS/PANDAS are, how immune responses and brain inflammation affect behavior and nervous system regulation, and why symptoms such as OCD, rage, regression, and restrictive eating require a broader, integrative lens. Dr. Casado also shares her personal journey and decade-long commitment to educating clinicians on how to support children and caregivers navigating these complex challenges. This episode offers clarity, context, and hope—inviting therapists to deepen their understanding, support attachment and regulation, and bring a more informed, systemic approach to their work with children affected by PANS/PANDAS. Send us a text message and tell us your thoughts.Celebrate the holidays with us with a throwback episode as we open a window onto a season where streets become stages, kitchens turn into archives, and every drumbeat and carol carries a story. From the clatter of cowbells in Nassau to the smoky crackle of a roast pig on Christmas Eve, the region's holidays reveal how history lives in sound, taste, and togetherness. We start with the pulse of festival culture: Junkanoo's lavish costumes and goatskin drums marching down Bay Street in the Bahamas, and the Boxing Day launches in the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis, Belize, and Montserrat. Each celebration stitches heritage to the present—months of planning, bursts of creativity, and a shared promise to meet at dawn. Then we head to St. Vincent and the Grenadines, where Nine Mornings wakes neighborhoods at 4 a.m. with concerts and games, culminating in a joyful jump up that proves community thrives when people gather before sunrise. Our journey continues into homes and churches. In Suriname, Godo Pa—Dearest Daddy—arrives on December 6 with gifts and poems, a post-independence figure who replaces Old World icons with a reflection of local identity. Across the Spanish Caribbean, Noche Buena brings families to the table for lechón, yuca, and music that lasts late into Christmas Eve, while Three Kings Day keeps the season open into January as children leave grass and water for the camels and wake to gifts beneath the bed. These customs hold the region's layered past while nurturing the joy that keeps people close. No Caribbean holiday is complete without music. Parang bands roam neighborhoods in Grenada, and parang-soca lights up Trinidad and Tobago with door-to-door harmonies. We share favorites—from Scrunter's Christmas classics and Bindley B's celebratory anthems to Carlene Davis's reggae carols—curating a playlist that can transform a winter commute into a warm-weather fête. By the end, you'll hear how a festival becomes a bridge, how a song becomes a keepsake, and how a meal becomes a map back home.Press play, share your family tradition, and tell us the holiday song you return to every year. To think through soil is to engage with some of the most critical issues of our time. In addition to its agricultural role in feeding eight billion people, soil has become the primary agent of carbon storage in global climate models, and it is crucial for biodiversity, flood control, and freshwater resources. Perhaps no other material is asked to do so much for the human environment, and yet our basic conceptual model of what soil is and how it works remains surprisingly vague. In cities, soil occupies a blurry category whose boundaries are both empirically uncertain and politically contested. Soil functions as a nexus for environmental processes through which the planet's most fundamental material transformations occur, but conjuring what it actually is serves as a useful exercise in reframing environmental thought, design thinking, and city and regional planning toward a healthier, more ethical, and more sustainable future. Through a sustained analysis of the world's largest wastewater agricultural system, located in the Mexico City–Mezquital hydrological region, Thinking Through Soil: Wastewater Agriculture in the Mezquital Valley (Harvard UP, 2025) by Montserrat Bonvehi Rosich & Dr. Seth Denizen imagines what a better environmental future might look like in central Mexico. More broadly, this case study offers a new image of soil that captures its shifting identity, explains its profound importance to rural and urban life, and argues for its capacity to save our planet. This interview was conducted by Dr. Miranda Melcher whose book focuses on post-conflict military integration, understanding treaty negotiation and implementation in civil war contexts, with qualitative analysis of the Angolan and Mozambican civil wars. En: The rugged summits outlined against the sky, serving as an omnipresent reminder of the history and mysteries of Catalunya. En: Martí, a local historian with eyes bright with curiosity, walked the steep path to the monastery. En: Beside him, Núria, a skeptical hiker, accompanied him with determined steps. En: Núria was a nature lover who always sought logical explanations for things, but secretly, the unresolved mysteries captivated her. En: The monastery had suffered an unexpected loss: the disappearance of an ancient artifact said to be linked to a forgotten legend.Ca: Martí, en la seva ànsia de reconeixement, volia trobar-lo.En: Martí, with his eagerness for recognition, wanted to find it.Ca: Núria, que a la superfície desitjava provar que no hi havia res de màgic, no podia evitar sentir una punxada d'interès.En: Núria, who outwardly desired to prove there was nothing magical, couldn't help but feel a twinge of interest. En: "Let's go," said Martí with determination, as they ventured onto a little-known path behind the monastery walls.Ca: Núria sospirava, barreja de dubte i fascinació.En: Núria sighed, a mix of doubt and fascination. En: She didn't want to believe in stories, but the allure of the unknown motivated her to keep going. En: The mountain was mortes.En: The air grew colder and smelled of dead leaves. En: Despite the difficulties, they followed their instincts until they found a partially hidden entrance among the rocks.Ca: Amb nervis i excitació, van descobrir una cambra secreta.En: With nerves and excitement, they discovered a secret chamber. En: Inside, the walls were engraved with ancient symbols, and at the center, a small empty pedestal indicated where the artifact would have been. En: Martí and Núria looked at each other, sharing a moment of wordless understanding. En: "Perhaps this is proof that the legend is real," admitted Núria, her voice muted by admiration. En: Martí knew he had found more than he expected. En: It wasn't recognition that truly mattered, but the truth they had unearthed together. En: As they left the chamber, hearts full of excitement, they knew the story remaining at Montserrat was complex. En: The most important thing was the discovery and sharing of this knowledge with others. En: Núria accepted that some mysteries can coexist with reality and embraced her new interest in the unknown. En: From that day on, the mountain of Montserrat became even more special for Martí and Núria. En: Although they had found what they were looking for, the weave of myths, history, and nature had created a new bond between them, a mystery that remains part of their own shared
