Happy 2024 everyone. This week we take a look at Jonathan Young's song Wolf Within. This song is not that complex of a song - and in many ways could probably be made better by being longer - but overall has many qualities that show why it deserved to be number 3 on the iTunes list of metal songs during the week it came out, as well as number 8 on Metal Hammer's "The 10 best new metal songs you need to hear right now". We look at this song from its instrumentation, vocals, lyrics and how it relates or doesn't to the bible. So join us this week as we learn more about his song. S02E08: "Ryan" Original Airdate: 11/12/02 60 Clark rescues his little mind reader pal Ryan(aka Stranger Things aka Young Wolf) from a lab where a doctor with questionable motives was performing cruel cognitive experiments on him. Meanwhile, Lex meets Smallville's mayor(The Cigarette Smoking Man) and finds himself at odds with the corrupt leader, who wants a bribe in exchange for approval of the Lexcorp plant expansion. Clark refuses to accept that Ryan can't be saved, and races to find a specialist to perform a life saving surgery. Did the police really do an investigation, or is Summerholt too big to fail? Where is Ryan's aunt at the end of the episode? What does Gill even do for a living? Should Warrior Angel have maybe seen that betrayal coming? It's the one where we peel back the FOREskin and talk FOREshadowing. Sorry. Have questions, or comments? Leave a voice message for us on anchor, and we may play yours on an upcoming episode. A king who conquered and then lost Dorne. Then lost his life trying to re-take it... but managed to write a book that is still studied today all before turning 19. A short but intense and compelling reign of only 4 years, he has many parallels to Aegon the Conqueror, the Young Wolf, and Young Griff. Featuring Prince Aemon the Dragonknight, Oakenfist, and a certain bed of scorpions... Jude and John grab a rifle, a pony, and go ridin' out into the bloody "evening redness in the west" in Episode 36 of the Book XChange podcast. The subject of "the American west in literature" is about as vast, wide open and intimidating as the very landscape itself, so we decided it may take not one, but TWO episodes to do it justice. In this first part, we tackle "Western novels" - which of course is a term that can encompass a wide variety of books and writers. We talk of course about the well known, somewhat hackneyed symbols, cliches and archetypes that can populate the genre - but also cover a number of books that seek to satirize, analyze and subvert these tropes. We cover authors both legendary and lesser known, male and female, and try to articulate what makes the American west such mythic, mysterious, and at times malicious terrain. In a second part (which we will save until a later date), we will look not at novels but at non-fiction books that examine the history, mythos and allure of the land stretching beyond the Mississippi River... yeehaw!! MUSIC: John Williams, Young Wolf, Voidz Panda BOOKS DISCUSSED/MENTIONED/RECOMMENDED IN THIS EPISODE What John is currently reading/plans to read next: 'Warlock,' Oakley Hall - 'How to Think: A Survival Guide for A World at Odds,' Alan Jacobs - What Jude is currently reading/plans to read next: 'Red Storm Rising,' Tom Clancy - TBD - Books/Writers discussed in this episode: 'Blood Meridian,' 'The Border Trilogy,' 'No Country For Old Men,' Cormac McCarthy - 'The Virginian,' Owen Wister - Various works of James Fennimore Cooper - 'The Ox-Bow Incident,' Walter Van Tilburg Clark - 'Giant,' Edna Ferber - The 'Lonesome Dove' tetralogy of Larry McMurtry - 'Train Dreams,' Denis Johnson - 'To A God Unknown,' John Steinbeck - 'Death Comes for the Archbishop,' and other works by Willa Cather - The Wyoming stories of Annie Proulx - 'News of the World,' Paulette Jiles - 'The Sisters Brothers,' Patrick deWitt - The Jim Chee/Joe Leaphorn mysteries of Tony Hillerman - Planned next episode of the Book XChange podcast: For Episode 37, the Book XChange brothers will go to bat for lesser known and obscure books that we feel deserve to be read, discussed and shared. Any and all genres qualify - we're going to scour our shelves for some of the very best books we've read that are well under the radar for most folks. Here's hoping you'll find some undiscovered gems with us, next time...

I love watching Game of Thrones. It is just awesome. For lack of better terms. The battles, the mythical creatures, the unexpected twists and all of it. But this isn't the best part. The best part about this show is how applicable it can be to our own world. Different lessons. If you haven't watched it, I'm not going to spoil it completely. But there was a war. The war was a fight for freedom against the evil queen. And the young general was winning every battle. He still ended up dying. But he was winning his freedom because he was skilled in battle strategies. We aren't at war with the queen. But we are at war with time and trying to get financial freedom. We could learn a lesson from this rebellion. He won those battles because he was skilled. Skills win battles regardless of if the odds are stacked against you. Learn a skill. A skill will help you earn financial confidence and grow your business. But sometimes you don't have the time to learn. You can still invest. You can invest in someone else who has learned the skill to grow your business. Invest in a skill today. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Hello and welcome back to the NotACast, the one true chapter-by-chapter podcast going through A Song of Ice and Fire one chapter a week! In this episode, Catelyn Stark reunites with her firstborn child Robb at Moat Cailin; she still thinks of him fondly as her squalling infant son, but he's all grown up now and leading men to war. This week, we: -Ponder the fate of Ashara Dayne -Welcome the Manderlys of "the north remembers" fame to the story -Lay out the Young Wolf's plan of attack as he marches against the merciless Lannisters -Discuss the one major mistake (or is it??) he makes in that plan: giving Roose Bolton command of his infantry -Wipe "dust" (totally not tears!) from our manly eyes while discussing the rich, moving relationship between Cat and Robb Next week: a *much* less moving parent-child reunion. The Young Wolf himself and how to best utilize the myriad of positioning and battlefield-controlling effects at his disposal. EDIT: Small correction- When I speak about the Crannogman Warden, I incorrectly mention his Ability is "+1 to Hit against enemies that have not activated". It is, in fact, "Re-roll Misses against enemies that have not activated." All talking points remain the same though, just be aware of this error!
