An investigation revealed that California Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara has been using a campaign committee to fund lavish meals and drinks. Lara reportedly spent nearly $30,000 at upscale restaurants and bars, including a $700 dinner at San Laurel in Los Angeles with Farmers Insurance Group's CEO. These expenses were charged to a campaign committee, despite Lara not formally announcing a run for lieutenant governor. We began with Chef Anthony Bonett from @Moshulu, who's about to enter into his new role as the Chef at Triple Crown, located in the Radnor Hotel in Wayne, PA. Chef Bonett has been working inside restaurants in Philadelphia for most of his career, landing a job with Fearless Restaurant's Marty Grims 15 years ago, and has worked for the family-owned business ever since. His career has long since focused on seafood-heavy cuisines where he offers creative meals to entice everyone's palates. Today, he joined us while getting ready for the FR Restaurant Week, Easter Brunches, and his interesting twists on foods that we all love for the new Spring menu at Moshulu! https://www.fearlessrestaurants.comhttps://www.fearlessrestaurants.com/moshuluhttps://www.triplecrownradnor.comNext, our host was joined by Keith Wallace who's name is synonymous with all things wine, including Founding a top-tier school for budding sommeliers and wine makers. His career stemmed from working inside kitchens to wine making, from penning the book, "Corked & Forked" to contributing to different publications. As a person who looks for new and exciting ways to expand his career...he started a program for sommeliers and winemakers at 31 years old which offers a wider accessibility for everyone to learn the industry. His expertise and craft is finely-tuned so that he can ascertain what your taste in wine might be, and judge so accurately that his choices end up obtaining 90+ ratings from Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator.Wine School: https://www.vinology.comPodcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/after-wine-school/id1787586745Book: https://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/corked-forked-keith-wallace/1102622248Our final guest set her sights on business ownership within the culinary community early on, first trying her hand with interesting twists as a baker, then as a caterer, she started a ghost kitchen as well, and finally landed on her brand: Chubby Chicks. First-class airfare to Hawaii. Five-star hotel stays. Lots and lots of food. All of it footed — directly or indirectly — by customers of a large Portland-area utility. A recent Oregonian/OregonLive investigation found that executives with Clean Water Services, Washington County's sewer agency, have spent years enjoying fancy business trips to Hawaii and meals on ratepayers' dime. None of the lavish travel spending is accounted for in the agency's annual budgets. And, despite months of probing questions and public records requests, officials have not yet disclosed the total cost of four Hawaiian trips or provided the receipts on hundreds of thousands of dollars in food spending. On the latest Beat Check, Shane Dixon Kavanaugh talks to Jamie Goldberg about her rigorous watchdog reporting led to this month's series on Clean Water Services. Learn more about your ad choices. In today's episode, we reflect on the powerful moment described in John 12:1-8. This touching story challenges us to consider the power of generosity, vulnerability, and relationship. Mary's lavish gift reflects not just her love and devotion but also her deep understanding of Jesus' journey toward the cross. Her act of generosity is misunderstood and judged, but Jesus honors her offering and affirms her faith. We also share stories from our recent mission trip to Waco, Texas, and how unexpected acts of compassion and connection—like worshipping with Church Under the Bridge—revealed the sacred in everyday encounters.
Gary and Shannon delve into the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's mishandling of DNA test kits, discuss the Trump administration's investigation into California's education policies on gender identity disclosures, and explore the extravagant wedding plans of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez. They also share their favorite baseball movies in celebration of the Dodgers' opening home game.
