Happy 2024 everyone. This week we take a look at Jonathan Young's song Wolf Within. This song is not that complex of a song - and in many ways could probably be made better by being longer - but overall has many qualities that show why it deserved to be number 3 on the iTunes list of metal songs during the week it came out, as well as number 8 on Metal Hammer's "The 10 best new metal songs you need to hear right now". We look at this song from its instrumentation, vocals, lyrics and how it relates or doesn't to the bible. So join us this week as we learn more about his song. Happy New Year, and hopefully you've had a good Christmas as well. We are starting out the year talking about some Christmas music - yes - but that is because we couldn't get to it before the actual Christmas day - and decided that we still liked what was talked about and wanted to still release this. This month we are talking about the band Cloverton and their song A Hallelujah Christmas. We also quickly mention August Burn Red's Up On The Housetop song as well (thankfully it's just an instrumental) since Aaron wanted to actually go after both songs so we decided WHY NOT! This week we reflect on 2023 and all the ups and downs regarding it. Fron trips, to concerts, to new life events 2023 in all reality was not that bad. While the end of the year is often one where people make all sorts of changes which last only a few moments, it is probably even more important that you take time to reflect on all of the good things that have happened in the midst of all the crazy. Everyone it seems is paying attention to the news coming out of the middle east, and Israel in particular. What is interesting over the past few years is the news surrounding the red heifer that is coming of age really soon, and may even be sacrificed during Passover 2024. This week we take a look at three bible translations to avoid. These translations include the CCP Translation, The Passion Translation, and the Pirate Bible Translation. The Pirate translation claims to be the first translation done purely through AI - and it presents the challenges of when a human is not involved in the process as there are verses that have their entire meaning changed. The Passion translation shows what happens when only one person handles a translation and the CCP version shows what happens when you try to bring politics into a biblical translation.Use Your Words podcast is passion project of two people from Southeastern Wisconsin. It's already hard enough to stick to your convictions, but sticking to them when you have to support people you disagree with morally makes it even stickier. While Aaron is not available for this week's episode (yay fall illness) Paul takes over the microphone solo to talk about this tension of being able to support people to be able to legally protest/say things that he disagrees with at the same time sticking to his own convictions. This week we cover chapter 16 of Knowing God by J.I. Packer which is titled God's Goodness and Severity. This is something that a lot of people only look at one part of the equation (Goodness) but often time at their own peril forget to take into account severity. There are a lot of people that think of God as Packer states in the Santa Clause phase. While this song has risen to #1 on Billboard as of 8/22/2023, it has brought up a few questions for Paul. We learn a few things during this song: Paul listened to way more emo than he cares to admit during his early adult hood, Pug Mugs are the best mugs (YouTube version only), and sometimes musicians make mistakes when they make music videos that have nothing to do with the song. While we listen and look at this song, we also look at how this song exemplifies a typical music video/song in the early 2000's. In this episode of Use Your Words, we look at the "controversial" song that has sparked a heated debate surrounding racist references, lynching, and sundown towns in music. In fact the song is so "evil" that it was even pulled off of Country Music Television cable channel rotation due to the evils that they said were contained in the song - but is it really as bad as they say?Pundits were also quick to point out that the singer is anti a lot of socially popular things as well - claiming that he is an "evil" person - but how much of that is true and real - and how much of it is just projection because they don't like the politics of the singer? Also - is it really a bad thing for people to be good and defend their neighbors? What about if the person that is your neighbor is someone that you disagree with? This is part two of our conversation that we recently had between Paul and Aaron. In this episode of Use Your Words, we're having an open and honest conversation about what it means to be a Christian that is committed to living by what the Bible says, but also happens to be attracted to others of the same sex/gender. Aaron leads the conversation and asks the questions that he's always wanted to ask of Paul. We know this can be a sensitive topic, so we recommend listening to it first without children around on your own before deciding if it's appropriate to listen to it around children. We're keeping it real and honest, and we hope this conversation will help those who are struggling with this issue. This week we discuss chapter 11 of Knowing God by J.I. Packer. During this episode we talk about the central premise of Packer's book, which is to know God through interaction with Him and learning about Him and how important it is to follow His Word regardless of what our own selfish desires may want. Through knowing that God is truth, and that there can be nothing but truth from God - we learn not only a lot about how we as humans should live but more about Who God is himself. This week's episode of Use Your Words Podcast is all about Messy in Heaven, a song by 21-year-old Venby which is part of the resurgence of drum and bass in Britain and Europe. It charted highly in the UK (3,1) and relatively high in the US (34,40) and is meant to be an anti-drug anthem. Although the song was inspired by a dream of Jesus looking intoxicated, the author says that it was not meant to be controversial or insulting song. Venby is one of a few female drum and bass artists and although only her second song appears to show that in the general world, she will have a very strong career - even if Aaron and Paul may have their own thoughts on the song.Use Your Words podcast is passion project of two people from Southeastern Wisconsin. Welcome to episode 2 of music analysis where we talk about the fact that Linkin Park has some good music. But beyond that we look at this song from a few points of view - how is it musically, lyrically, how is the music video and how it ties in with the song, and how does the song fit in with the Bible. You may think come on there is nothing to discuss here - its a quick five minute song. But you would be wrong - we spend almost an hour and a half breaking down this song and what it means when they sing the words "I'm breaking the Habit tonight"Use Your Words podcast is passion project of two people from Southeastern Wisconsin. On March 27th, 2023 another shooting occured at a school in Nashville, TN. We decided to talk about the shooting. What our response should be, why the gun free signs don't work, and what should we as Christians do to respond to this as well as how should we respond if the government decides to ban all guns (that will be in part 2 - so make sure to come back then). Welcome to Season 3 of Use Your Words. This week we start out things by looking at our Chris Rock's Netflix special "Selective Outrage" (This is rated MA for sure - it is not recommended for anyone - let alone under 18). Why are we talking and analyzing it? Because it is something that is in the current culture - it is something that people are talking about around the water cooler as well as the fact that it continues on the social media blaze about the slap heard round the world (aka Will Smith slapping Chris Rock). Things covered in this special include Chris's thoughts on dating younger women, words that white men can't say, and the slap. The slap. It's the last episode of Season 2 of Use Your Words and we have one final thing to talk about. Social Media. Social Media is harming people left and right, and yet we let children use it without a second thought. Multiple studies have shown the detrimental impact it has had on teens and young adults - so is it maybe time we put social media behind an age restricted wall on the internet - and regulate it just as much as we do other things that are considered adult such as pornography, alcohol, cigarettes, and voting?Effects Of Social Media On TeenagersSocial media and teen mental health: 10 things to know : NPRHow Social Media Affects Teenagers. The Pros and Cons of Social Media for Youth | Psychology TodayEffects of Social Media on Children – Cleveland ClinicTeens and social media use: What's the impact? - Mayo ClinicTeens who cut their social media use in half see improvements in body image in just a MONTH | Daily Mail OnlineUse Your Words podcast is passion project of two people from Southeastern Wisconsin. In this week's episode we discuss chapters 5 and 6 of the classic book Knowing God by J.I. Packer. The two chapters covered address the concept of the incarnation in chapter 5 and why it is important that the idea of the incarnation is important. Packer brings up the fact that Jesus is The Only Son of God - not a son of God - and Packer discusses what the difference between those two phrases are.Chapter 6 discusses the importance of the Holy Spirit and what he does in the lives of the Chrstian and in the church.Use Your Words podcast is passion project of two people from Southeastern Wisconsin. Well this is another experiment that we will see how it goes. This week we are talking about the song Unholy by Sam Smith. We will be looking at this from multiple angles - the musicality, the lyrics, how it aligns with the bible, and how the music video aligns with the song itself. This week we go over chapters 3 and 4 of Packer's Knowing God. This continues to lay the foundation for the rest of the book. During this time we talk about Packer's insistence that anything that uses the imagination or art in worship is idolatry - and how he cedes some ground on this in the 1993 update to the book. What is your thought - is the use of art/images/statues during worship idolatry or is he taking it too far in that regards?Use Your Words podcast is passion project of two people from Southeastern Wisconsin.
