Ahh Christmas. The holiday that tries to be one thing but ultimately is about another. Parents seem to fall into two camps; those who listened attentively to their spouse and kids throughout the year and bought all presents by November 1st and those of us who now blame lack of presents on "supply chain issues." There are those that give physical gifts and and those that give experiences. In Mike's case he was able to give his wife heather both! Is it even possible to raise well rounded kids these days? We all fall into our niche interests so quickly. And by niche interests I obviously mean watching stuff on the internet. Are the goalposts too narrow? We want our kids to be polite, but not so polite they don't stand up for themselves. We want them to be good at sports, school, and social stuff but not too focused on any one of those. Well thankfully Mike and Pete have the 3 specific steps that will work EVERY time, or not. Enjoy! Every kid has their own unique gift, right? So why do we parents see someone else's kid doing something awesome like a backflip or talking nicely to their parents and immediately think why the hell can't my kid do that?! Participation trophies were originally used as a way to incentivise kids at a key point (when they are young) to want to keep playing that sport rather than quit after one season. However, now the absence of any merit based trophies means none of our kids are really incentivized to win. In some cases we let our kids off the hook if they don't want to show up for team practice. To Pete it's all gone too far. To Mike it hasn't gone far enough and wants all sports canceled. It's a cracker. Enjoy! Support us

Cherish every moment cause it goes so fast. Oh yeah?! Maybe you want to come over and deal with this little monster who's making us all late cause they're rolling around on the floor screaming that their sock as "TOO COMFORTABLE!" Look, it’s not possible to prepare for a kid. Period. Oh, so you "kinda get it" cause you "look after" your "nieces" and "nephews"? That's some low-rent, pitiful, pre-baby thinking right there. Babies are like a box of chocolates; you never know how you got them. Another chocolate/baby difference is instead of eating them you have to FEED them. That’s a big one. It's almost been a year, one whole year, since we said goodbye to normalcy and hunkered down with our families. At first it was scary. Then, after some time, we did the best we could to make the best of it. Ah 2020, it's almost as if you were the year that Y2K should've been. Most years we optimistically look forward to new adventures in the coming year. This year it's like we're clawing our way out of the sewer happy to find we've made it to the inside to toilet. While kids had 3000% more screentime it's us parents that had 3000% more stress, as we balanced our jobs (if we were still lucky enough to have one) and our kids entire eduction (WHAT'S THE DAMN PASSWORD!!?). In an amazing twist of irony there were also some good things that came out of 2020. Most people like the holiday season. Warm feelings, family time, and decorations. It's...nice. Then there are those who want to mainline the holiday season like that sweet, sweet black tar heroin.It's the smell of the Christmas tree that you cut down yourself, because your "family" wouldn't help. Over 78% of you eat dinner every night as a family with your kids. According to all the research that's failing all else that prob the best thing you can do as a parent. Summers as a parent are always deceptive. On the surface we still get a child-like joy when school is over. A brief sigh of relief. Relief that's quickly followed by that moment when we realize that these kids will just hang around the house, begging to be entertained. for months. THEN we realize, hang on we just spent the last 4 MONTHS living, breathing and schooling these kids and now with school over we don't even get the 1-3 hours of structure that internet school provides!?!? We need less aggressive, less selfish, less bigoted assholes and more empathetic, more open, critically-minded human beings. . But what are there key things we want to be better at?
