My guest today is Demi Adejuyigbe. One of the things that makes Demi so special is how hard it is to summarize him in an intro like this, because he has so many talents and applies them in so many different ways. He is a standup comedian, with a brand new one-hour special out on Dropout TV. He co-hosted the podcasts Gilmore Guys and Punch Up the Jam. He's a screenwriter, who wrote on TV shows like The Good Place. He's famous on the internet for his parody songs, spoofing artists like Will Smith and Lana Del Rey; and for his September videos, where, for years, he made increasingly elaborate videos of himself, dancing to the Earth, Wind & Fire song. And he used the popularity of those videos to raise over a million dollars for charity. He's also directed several music videos, including one that he made for one of my songs, back in 2022. And for this episode, we're talking as much about a music video as the song within it. And that song is "You Only Live Once" by The Strokes.Demi's new special, Demi Adejuyigbe is Going to do One (1) Backflip, is on Dropout TV. For more info, visit songexploder.net/demi-adejuyigbe.

In our weekend recap episode, we discuss Cavalry FC's victory over Valour which clinched them a playoff spot. We also talk about USports action. The Dinos women drew Macewen to put an end to their perfect record. The Dinos men's team vaulted over the Cougars with a couple of wins while the Cougars could only get 1 point this weekend.Calgarian Willie Akio capped off his season playing in the Australian NPL state leagues this weekend. He scored a brace to lift his club to win their Grand Final. One common thread we noticed this weekend were all of the backflip celebrations. In the Cavalry match, both Goteh Ntiginee and Caniggia Elva wowed the crowd with their post goal celebrations. In Edmonton, Mykena Walker surprised the play by play person with a backflip after she scored. And Willie Akio also did his trademark backflip celebration in Australia.Subscribe to our Substack or follow us on Twitter/X or on Instagram or Bluesky. Our website is yycsoccer.com

The multi-talented Demi Adejuyigbe is a podcast host (The Gilmore Guys) writer (The Good Place, The Late Late Show with James Corden), and social media celebrity (those wonderful homemade videos for the song “September”). Those are all very exciting things that Demi does and we're concerned they would keep you up. So instead, we're focusing on his interest in film photography: the cameras he uses, the film he acquires, the development process that has consumed an entire bathroom at his home. We also get into the artistic experience of having a finite amount of shots one can really take (as opposed to the endless supply of digital exposures) and how it makes one see the act of photography - and indeed the art of living - in a more selective way. One savors an image more, one remembers it more.
