Send us a textThis week I am delighted to be joined by Sari Rose Barron, LMFT, as we're talking postpartum mental health and how this feeds into parenting. What happens when your four-year-old's tantrum suddenly has you responding exactly like your father did—despite promising yourself you'd never parent that way? Why do certain moments with your children trigger intense emotional reactions that seem disproportionate to the situation?Sari explains how our childhood experiences shape our parenting in ways we often don't recognize. Sari brilliantly distinguishes between mood (our emotional states) and regulation (our ability to manage those states), explaining why even the most well-intentioned parents find themselves hijacked by unexpected triggers."Being a perfect parent actually fosters anxious attachment, not secure attachment," Sari explains, stating that moments of imperfection—followed by repair—are what truly build security in our relationships with our children. We discuss how trauma gets stored in the body and brain, creating automatic responses that feel beyond our control in heated parenting moments. The conversation delves into practical approaches for healing, including EMDR therapy and other trauma-focused modalities that access the deeper, somatic aspects of our past experiences. Sari explains why traditional talk therapy sometimes doesn't reach the root causes of our reactivity, and how recognizing our own trauma responses (fight, flight, freeze, and fawn) can be transformative.Whether you're navigating the intensity of the postpartum period or the challenges of raising teenagers, you'll gain powerful insights into breaking generational patterns and creating healthier relationships with your children. Listen now to understand why healing yourself might be the most important gift you can give your family. You can find Sari online; Her websiteHer InstagramBecause you're wonderful people who listen to the podcast; Sari has given you a Freebie; Here is a link to a 2 minute quiz to find your Parenting Attachment Style! As always; HPNB still only has 5 billing cycles! So this means that you not only get 3 months FREE access, no obligation! As a mother of two who sends their children to a public school, I believe teachers deserve better. Teachers do not get paid enough to parent your children in a seven hour day. Teachers are doing a job that will decide what our futures look like as adults. Teachers are trying to teach a classroom full of 20 kids or more five days a week in order to get them to the next grade level.Imagine having to teach and parent, while defending yourself against students who do not know how to behave themselves... if their parents are not around. Let's face it... Most of these children do not even behave themselves with their parents in the same room. If this Parent Accountability Act is going to help teachers, feel safe and a learning environment let's go ahead and do it. And this episode I'm talking about parents who do not want to parent and it is time for them to understand that the state is fed up.#parentaccountabilityact #GAlaws #parentneedtoparentFollow us on Chan & Pods channelSubscribe to the show on YT and on your podcast appTikTok: @chanbepoddinInstagram @TheczywmbpodcastX @theczywmbpod#parentinginabetterwaySupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/cozy-womb/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Understanding temperament can transform parenting approaches, bringing harmony to the often turbulent journey of raising children. In this episode, we speak with Dr. Sandee McClowry about recognizing that each child's temperament is unique, and how this allows parents to cater their strategies to individual children's needs. Whether your child is industrious, friendly, cautious, or high maintenance, acknowledging these traits helps in crafting supportive environments. We also discuss how parents must also be aware of their own temperaments to foster better interactions. Using tools like secret signals and timers can ease repetitive conflicts, while puppets and role-play enhance empathy and perspective-taking. Ultimately, the key is respecting each other's temperamental differences for a more peaceful family dynamic.

In this heartfelt episode of The Free Thought Project Podcast, Jason and Matt welcome back Dayna Martin for an enlightening and deeply personal conversation on peaceful parenting and the potential it has to transform society. Dayna Martin is a renowned advocate of unschooling and peaceful parenting, a philosophy she has championed for over a decade. Through her books, speaking engagements, and coaching, Dayna has inspired countless families to embrace a more compassionate, respectful approach to raising children. She's also known for her appearances on talk shows, where she bravely fields criticism and challenges to her unique parenting approach. In this episode, we dive into why peaceful parenting seems so foreign and even threatening to some people, often leading to immediate rejection. We play a revealing clip from one of Dayna's talk show appearances, where she courageously addresses the angry reactions from guests who simply can't understand her parenting style. Dayna helps us explore how these deep-seated reactions reflect societal norms and the barriers we face in changing perspectives. We also touch on broader societal issues, discussing how peaceful parenting principles could serve as a foundation for addressing problems faced by inner-city children. Dayna shares her thoughts on how this approach might reach communities that often face systemic challenges, and together, we explore potential solutions to help these children thrive. As always, we end on a positive note, giving Dayna the floor to share her final, uplifting thoughts on the power of love and connection in parenting. And a quick apology to our listeners for the way Jason's mic sounds in this episode—rest assured, it'll be fixed by the next show. Are you living your life intentionally, or are you simply reacting to the world around you? Do you feel a sense of wholeness and contentment, or are you constantly striving for something more? In today's episode, I dive into these fundamental questions about the nature of human existence with Dr Dan Siegel. Dan received his medical degree from Harvard University and completed his postgraduate medical education at UCLA with training in Paediatrics and Child, Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. He has spent decades studying family interactions with an emphasis on how our attachment experiences influence our emotions, behaviour and autobiographical memory. He is also an award-winning educator, who was previously Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine in UCLA, and he's the author of five New York Times bestsellers and over fifteen other books, including his very latest, Personality and Wholeness in Therapy. In this conversation, Dan shares insights from his ground-breaking 20-year project on personality development. We discuss the difference between temperament and personality and explore how our innate tendencies interact with our life experiences to shape who we become. Dan introduces his theory of ABC (Agency, Bonding, Certainty) as fundamental motivational networks influencing our personality and explains how understanding these can lead to greater self-awareness and personal growth. We discuss the impact our childhood experiences have on our adult lives. Dan shares his ‘4 S's' of parenting - a brilliant framework which helps us build emotionally resilient children. We also go through Dan's ‘Wheel of Awareness' practice - a powerful tool that helps us move - from a reactive state to a more intentional, receptive way of living. Dan's message is one of hope and it reminds us that it's never too late to work on ourselves and find that sense of wholeness within. This conversation is not just about understanding ourselves better - it's about finding a path to true contentment and inner peace. I hope you enjoy listening. I love being a dad. It's been the greatest gift of my lifetime. But too often I grade myself in comparison to others and set myself against an idealized projection of what I imagine a perfect dad to be. While I do my best not to repeat yesterday's mistakes and interrupt the misguided patterns I've inherited from past generations, I still wonder… How can I be the best parent I can be? This is the inquiry explored in today's masterclass investigation, where I synthesize my thoughts with the most impactful and actionable advice from the parenting experts, psychologists, therapists, educators, and doctors who have graced the show over the years. If you are a wrangler of young humans trying to make the right moves or just want to better understand why kids think and behave as they do, then this deep dive is appointment listening. If the voices you hear speak to you, please consider going back to the original episodes to gain further insights from these amazing teachers. Many of the guests speaking about parenting have written valuable books that amplify their perspectives and philosophies. You can check out their respective episodes in the show notes. While I can't offer you a prescription for perfect parenting, I hope this primer has given you some perspective on how to parent more consciously. My hope is that it serves you on your parenting journey.
