Does the Talmud permit a man to have relations with a girl under three? Despite what some Jew-hating propagandists would have you believe, it does not. In this video, I walk through the passage most often cited in support of that claim and show what is actually being discussed.DavidWilber.com
In Galatians 4:8–11, Paul rebukes the Galatians for observing “days and months and seasons and years.” What exactly does Paul mean by this phrase? The standard antinomian view, represented by Pastor Steven Anderson, is that this is a reference to the biblical calendar outlined in the Law of Moses. Thus, Paul is condemning the observance of the Sabbath and biblical festivals, or so the argument goes. But is that really what this passage teaches? In this video, we take a closer look at the context and historical background of Galatians 4:10. In contrast to Pastor Anderson, I contend that Paul is not chastising the Galatians for observing the biblical calendar, but for something entirely different.www.davidwilber.com
Does observing Passover offend Christ? According to Joel Webbon, it does. In a recent video, Webbon and his friends criticized Christians who observed Passover and accused them of denying the sufficiency of Christ's work. Here is my response.
Ian Carroll recently claimed that the Rothschild family commissioned Cyrus Scofield to create a new, pro-Jewish version of the Bible—the “Scofield Bible”—to dupe evangelicals into supporting Israel and the Jewish people. The problem, however, is that Carroll's theory has zero evidence and is purely a product of his own fevered imagination, as I explain.https://davidwilber.com/
Is marital intimacy on the Sabbath a violation of the commandment to keep the seventh day holy? The Rabbis say no, but the author of the book of Jubilees says yes. Which view is more aligned with Scripture?https://davidwilber.com/
It is widely acknowledged that the earliest Christians observed the seventh-day Sabbath in obedience to the Fourth Commandment. What is less often acknowledged is that there have always been Christian communities that continued to honor the seventh-day Sabbath throughout history. One such community is the Seventh Day Baptists, which emerged from the Protestant Reformation. I am excited to be speaking with Nicolas Kersten, the Director of Education and History for the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference, to learn more about this Sabbatarian Christian tradition.https://davidwilber.com/
Joe Rogan recently welcomed Christian scholar and apologist Wes Huff to his podcast for a three-hour discussion on Christianity and the Bible. In this video, I want to highlight a great point Wes made about the Sabbath and the Law of Moses.https://davidwilber.com/
Should we make Paul "weird" again? My guest Ryan Lambert argues that we should. But what does that mean? In his new book, "The Weird Apostle," Ryan invites us to rediscover the historical Paul, a faithful Torah observant Jew. While this picture of Paul might feel "weird" from a modern Western standpoint, it offers a more accurate understanding of who Paul really was. I'm excited to have Ryan with us to discuss his book.
A Christian TikTok/Instagram influencer named Matt McMillen claims that the apostle James did not fully appreciate the Messiah's work on the cross and did not understand the gospel. He bases this claim on James's affirmation of the ongoing validity of the Law of Moses, which McMillen views as conflicting with the Gospel. In this video, I interact with McMillen's objections. https://davidwilber.com/
Jesus taught that the Law of Moses is not abolished (Matthew 5:17), that it will remain in force for as long as heaven and earth endure (Matthew 5:18), and that his followers must obey and teach it (Matthew 5:19). Now, in Matthew 5:20, he demands that his followers surpass the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees. But what does it mean to surpass their righteousness? In this video, we will explore this question in detail.
Are our friendships important to God? How do we build deep, meaningful friendships rooted in faith and Scripture? I'm excited to explore these questions today with Dr. Benjamin Szumskyj. In his recent book, Dr. Szumskyj reflects on how we can cultivate godly friendships, drawing inspiration from the bond between David and Jonathan in Scripture. He also shares his perspective on Pronomian (pro-Law/Torah) theology, and his experience advocating for this this view within the academic world. I hope you're blessed by the discussion.
A YouTuber named Andrew Schumacher recently published a hit piece where he tries to discredit me for my use of scholarly resources, accusing me of appealing to scholars in a misleading way. This isn't the kind of video I typically enjoy making, but I believe it's important to address for the reasons I explain in the video. Here, I respond to Andrew's claims point by point. I hope this will be helpful and encouraging to you! https://davidwilber.com/
What are the biblical festivals, and how are they relevant to Christians today? How do holidays like Passover, Pentecost, and Tabernacles point to the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) and his work of redemption? My guest today is Jon Horton, a Messianic believer and podcaster who has been studying these festivals and their significance. I'm excited to have him with us to discuss this topic.
After declaring that he did not come to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill them, and that the whole Law of Moses will remain in effect as long as heaven and earth exist (Matthew 5:17-18), Jesus urges his followers to obey and teach the Torah's commandments (Matthew 5:19). In this video, we will look at Matthew 5:19 and unpack Jesus's warning against disregarding the Torah's commandments and his call to be great in the kingdom by doing and teaching them. We will also address the claim that Jesus was not referring to the Torah's commandments in Matthew 5:19 and explore why the context contradicts that interpretation. Does the Epistle to the Hebrews teach supersessionism? Does the author suggest that the Messiah's priesthood and sacrifice have replaced the Levitical Priesthood and animal sacrifices? Traditionally, many have argued yes, citing passages that mention a “change” in the law and that describe the first covenant as becoming obsolete. However, a growing number of scholars are challenging the supersessionist readings of those passages. My guest today, D. Thomas Lancaster, has recently authored a commentary arguing for a post-supersessionist approach to Hebrews. I'm excited to have him with us to explore this perspective on the Epistle to the Hebrews. Did the apostle Paul teach believers to abandon the Law of Moses? In Acts 21, we see a rumor circulating that he did, which prompts James to propose a plan for Paul to debunk this rumor and set the record straight. What does this passage reveal about Paul's stance on the Law of Moses? My guest, Dr. G. Scott McKenzie, explores these questions in his recent book, “Walking Orderly, Keeping the Law.” In his book, Dr. McKenzie examines Acts 21 and critiques traditional antinomian interpretations that seek to deny its clear pronomian implications. I'm excited to have him on to discuss his work. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support

While we dwell in fragile, temporary shelters that symbolize our fleeting lives and inevitable mortality, we are still commanded to rejoice. But how do we embrace joy in a world filled with uncertainty, suffering, and loss? Is the Old Testament Law—the Torah—relevant to Christians today? Many Christians don't believe that it is. In fact, some modern teachers argue that the Mosaic Law's expiration date was the arrival of Christ. And now that Christ died on the cross, they say that the Law is no longer in effect. But is that really what the New Testament teaches? My guest, Dr. Richard Averbeck, challenges that perspective. In his recent book, The Old Testament Law for the Life of the Church, Dr. Averbeck makes the case that the Law of Moses remains in effect for Christians today. In this interview, Dr. Averbeck explains how the Torah is carried into the New Covenant, the problems with dividing the law into moral, civil, and ceremonial categories, and why the Levitical sacrificial system does not contradict the Messiah's once-for-all sacrifice for sin. I'm excited to have Dr. Averbeck with us to share his insights, and I hope this interview blesses you. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
Did Jesus abolish the distinction between permitted (clean) and prohibited (unclean) food in the Torah? Many say that he did based on his interaction with the Pharisees in Mark 7:1-23. In this passage, Jesus says that nothing that goes into a person can defile him (Mark 7:15). Also, in most English Bible translations, Mark 7:19 has a parenthetical statement that reads, “Thus he declared all foods clean.” Hence, it is believed that Mark's Jesus invalidated the Torah's food laws. But is that really what this passage is saying? My guest, Dr. Logan Williams, challenges the antinomian reading of Mark 7:1-23 and offers a more plausible interpretation. Messianic Jews and other Pronomian (Pro-Law) Christians believe that the Law of Moses is a vital part of our faith practice. However, not everyone agrees with this perspective. One prominent critic of this theology claims to have devised a single yes or no question that “topples” what he calls "Torahism," by which he means the biblical doctrine that the Law of Moses remains in effect. In this video, we consider this question. Did Jesus bring the Law of Moses to an end, or did he want his followers to obey it? As we learned in our previous video, Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 5:17 that he did not come to invalidate the Law's authority but rather came to teach and demonstrate the correct way to obey it. This statement alone is sufficient to dismiss any claims that Jesus did away with the Law. But he doesn't stop there. In Matthew 5:18, he goes on to declare that the whole Torah will remain as long as heaven and earth exist. In other words, it will not be going away any time soon. In this video, we will delve into the significance of Jesus's statement that nothing will pass from the Law “until heaven and earth pass away” and “until all is accomplished.” Check out my new book, “How Jesus Fulfilled the Law,” here! https://davidwilber.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
In a recent video, Rabbi Tovia Singer argues that Paul detested the Law of Moses and taught that Christians don't need to keep it. However, Rabbi Singer's objection relies on an outdated, antinomian reading of Paul, which does not accurately reflect the true Paul depicted in the Pauline epistles and Acts. In this video, we address Rabbi Singer's claims and clarify Paul's stance on the Law of Moses. https://davidwilber.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
What did Jesus teach about the Law of Moses? Did he say that he came to bring it to an end, or did he want his followers to obey it? Matthew 5:17-20 is a key passage that speaks to this question. In this video, we focus on verse 17, where Jesus says, “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” We explore what Jesus meant by the terms “abolish” and “fulfill.” Get my book, "How Jesus Fulfilled the Law," here: https://a.co/d/betNUDz --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
How should believers respond when someone wrongs us? In Matthew 5:38-42, Yeshua offers a surprising answer to that question. He references the "eye for an eye" principle found in the Torah, and then proceeds to explain how he expects his followers to respond when they are slapped, sued, and mistreated. This teaching from Yeshua, which includes ideas like turning the other cheek and walking a second mile, is well known and quite controversial. This passage is often cited as evidence that Yeshua came to undermine the Law of Moses. Also, many understand this passage to imply that Yeshua wants his followers basically to be pushovers. But is that really the point of Yeshua's teaching here? In this sermon, we explore Matthew 5:38-42 in light of its cultural and historical context, which will shed some light on what Yeshua means when he says not to resist the evildoer. Did the Messiah consider the Book of Enoch to be "Scripture"? Adam Fink from Parable of the Vineyard says yes. In 2 Peter 3:15-17, Peter warns that Paul's letters contain content that is “hard to understand” and which “the ignorant and unstable” misinterpret. He then connects the mishandling of Paul's letters to “lawless people.” In this video, I argue that 2 Peter 3:15-17 represents Peter's warning regarding antinomians (individuals who reject God's law) who misinterpret passages in Paul's letters to advocate for lawlessness. www.davidwilber.com --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
If you've been involved in Messianic and Torah observant circles for long, chances are you've come across a “Bible” called the Eth Cepher. This “Sacred Name” version of the Bible is marketed as a restoration of the “true” scriptures, and it contains many unique features not found in any other Bible version. Many believers have expressed interest in this Bible, driven by a genuine desire to embrace the Jewish roots of their faith and dive deeper into God's word. However, the Eth Cepher cannot satisfy that desire. Instead, it leads believers to confusion, false doctrine, and foolishness. In this short video, I provide 5 reasons to avoid the Eth Cepher: The Eth Cepher plagiarizes Wikipedia and other sources. The people behind the Eth Cepher are unqualified. The Eth Cepher employs bizarre, inaccurate transliterations. The Eth Cepher includes non-inspired books. The Eth Cepher contains numerous mistranslations. I elaborate on each of these points in the video. While much more could be said, I hope this short video will be enough to encourage everyone to avoid this “Bible.” --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
I had the honor of interviewing Pastor and Christian apologist Anthony Rogers, discussing his recent debate with Sean Griffin on the topic of whether God the Father exists in a “body” in heaven. Sean believes that God the Father eats, goes to the bathroom, and has an eternally-circumcised male organ. (I'm not kidding.) I have watched countless debates over the years, but this one stood out as uniquely devastating. Anthony completely dismantles Sean's pagan concept of God. The whole debate was informative and entertaining. Anyway, I had to have Anthony on my channel to discuss this bizarre topic. I was not aware that anyone today (besides Mormons) actually believed that the God of the universe is limited to a body, but apparently this idea is gaining traction in some corners of the Internet. Anthony explains why this topic is important and argues that the idea of God the Father having a body is not only inconsistent with the Bible but also blasphemous. https://davidwilber.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
The expression “law of Christ” appears only two times in the New Testament (Galatians 6:2; 1 Corinthians 9:21). Traditionally, interpreters have frequently understood this expression to refer to a new “law” or ethic that supersedes the law of Moses. However, there is a growing scholarly consensus that “law of Christ” directly refers to the law of Moses in some sense. This video makes a case for interpreting the phrase “law of Christ” in Galatians 6:2 and 1 Corinthians 9:21 as a reference to the law of Moses as it is taught and exemplified by Christ. https://davidwilber.com/ --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/david-wilber/support
For centuries, Christians and other theists have utilized cosmological arguments to support the proposition that God exists. However, Justin from "Bullet Holes in the Bible" insists that Christians who employ such arguments are guilty of "doublethink." He illustrates this with the simple question: "Who created God?" Michael Kelley, a Christian author and teacher, insists that Christians who obey and teach God's Law “hate Jesus” and are “literally rejecting what Jesus did on the cross for us.” He also claims that God's Law is “bondage” and that Jesus freed us from our obligation to obey it. In support of these assertions, Michael cites passages that, according to him, illustrate a dichotomy between the Torah and Jesus's commandments. Additionally, he argues that the implications of Jesus's heavenly high priesthood include the establishment of a new law that supersedes the Law of Moses. Is the Messiah God? The first chapter of Hebrews presents compelling evidence that he is. In this chapter, the author highlights the Son's role as the creator and sustainer of the universe, emphasizes the Son's divine essence, proclaims that the Son is worthy of the worship that belongs only to God, and explicitly identifies the Son as “God” and “Lord/YHWH.” In order to demonstrate each of these points, this video conducts a detailed exegesis of Hebrews 1 and answers objections from unitarians.
