We also apologize for any mixing up of saints stories or misrepresentations of particular saints--neither of us were reading hagiographies immediately preceding this recording and therefore the facts are a little wishy-washy. Tarot as a Christian Spiritual Practice

A few weeks ago when Lurie mentioned to Rachel that Tarot had it's roots in Christianity, Rachel was skeptical. This week Lurie elaborates on how Tarot comes from Christian folk practices and how we as contemporary Christians can include Tarot as part of our own spiritual practices. We also discuss why it's misguided to claim that Tarot is related to the Devil (something both Lurie and Rachel were told growing up). This week's episode is more PG than our usual topics, but still be mindful of who's around when you're listening as sometimes we have the vocabulary of sailors. Enjoy! Want to connect with us more? The recent murders of Asian women at the hand of a white man who identifies as Christian and believes himself to be "addicted" to sex, led us to talk this week about the myth of sex and porn addiction. According to the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT), theories of sex addiction are not adequately backed up by sexological research. This week Dr. James Cantor a neuroscientist and sexological researcher specializing in paraphilias (why we like what we like sexually) joins us to discuss his research on pedophilia and how it relates to what we know (and don't know) about the sexual abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. Using sex research to understand exactly what the John Jay Report says about the Catholic Church's sexual abuse crisis is a conversation that isn't happening, yet it's essential to truly understanding the crisis and how to prevent sexual abuse from continuing. This conversation can be uncomfortable at first, but as James mentions it's like going to the gym. That discomfort leads to important growth.
