Hey Straigtiolab Listeners, here's an episode of a new show, Silver Lining With The Old Gays, that we think you'll love. In today’s conversation, The Old Gays swing the closet door open on their coming out histories: from discovering their gay-hood and hard conversations with loved ones, to offering heartfelt advice for the next generation of LGBTQ+ folx. Whether inspired by underwear ads, Billy the Kid, or “sex with my psychologist,” their stories remind us that coming out isn’t defined by labeling your identity for others, but by the journey of personal discovery. New episodes drop every other Tuesday, listen and subscribe wherever you get podcasts. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Julie Herskin and Cecilie Hjermind, founders of the sex wellness brand Sitre, are changing how we view intimacy, self-care, and sexual wellness. With their personal experiences and innovative approach, they share how they aim to break down the shame and negative body image often linked to intimacy products. The conversation touches on personal experiences, the stigma surrounding intimate products, and how design plays a role in shifting cultural narratives.Julie and Cecilie emphasize that intimacy can take many forms, from a hug to a meaningful conversation, all of which promote feelings of connection and release of oxytocin. They bring a broader view of intimacy and through their products they encourage people to check in with themselves, to understand their emotions and desires, and to build deeper, more meaningful connections. Sitre is about creating a new culture around intimacy—one that's inclusive, open, and free from shame. Cecilie and Julie explain that the goal is to offer products that promote self-care and intimacy as integral parts of overall well-being, while challenging outdated and narrow views of what intimacy should look like. By making products that feel like part of a wellness routine, Sitre aim to make intimacy more accessible, comfortable, and empowering for everyone. She's the name on everybody's lips... but what does the rise of Bonnie Blue tell us about societal double standards? In a society that is increasingly sex positive, it seems that opinions differ amongst the A Gay And A NonGay community. Dan (representing the NonGays) feels like maybe this has all gone too far... whilst James (representing the Gays) believes that the outrage exposes some hypocrisy in society. Through-out the debate, both James and Dan grapple with their own opinions and shed light on the broader implications of sexual freedom and stigma. Do you have any questions, any comments about the episode? Jimanekia would love to hear from you!Exploring the life and work of a transformative therapist, this narrative unveils the story of Kate Loree, a sex-positive therapist dedicated to helping others find healing and connection. Through her advocacy for marginalized communities, including the kink community, non-monogamous individuals, sex workers, and LGBTQ+ people, Kate brings a compassionate, socially conscious approach to therapy. Her practice integrates a unique blend of social justice, art therapy, trauma work, and psychedelic healing, where tools like ketamine therapy reveal new dimensions of self-discovery and healing.Kate's journey began in her childhood, navigating a landscape marked by bigotry and sexual shame. Moving from Oregon to Alabama, she grappled with cultural stigmas, which ultimately shaped her path towards a career focused on trauma, creativity, and embracing diverse identities. These experiences have uniquely prepared her to help others overcome similar challenges, using her own life's hurdles as a guiding light. In this candid conversation, Kate opens up about her personal experiences with metastatic cervical cancer, a reality that—even in remission—impacts her daily life. She shares her reliance on meditation, exercise, and a deep connection to source energy, tools that help her find balance in the face of life's uncertainties. We delve into her philosophy on self-care, the power of setting boundaries, and how navigating the healthcare system as a patient with a serious illness has sharpened her understanding of systemic inequalities. As the conversation unfolds, Kate highlights the beauty of synchronicity and divine connection in her life and work. With a sense of wonder, she describes the grounding joy she finds in life's small and grand moments alike—whether in her connection to ancestral wisdom, nature, or the universe's subtle interconnections. This journey is as much about embracing gratitude and healing as it is about celebrating life's marvels. Join us for an inspiring exploration of resilience, self-compassion, and the profound impact of choosing joy amidst adversity.Thank you all for listening. Dr. Nicole's philosophy is consistent with a nationally general movement called 'Sex Positivity'. We're so used to hearing about the risks and dangers associated with sex yet there are so many diverse and wonderful things to celebrate! Sex positivity encourages safety but also highlights sexual pleasure. It embraces LGBTQI+ identities and issues. It rejects shame and stigma and it acknowledges that our sexuality feeds into the very essence of our self-identity and happiness. Beyond this, however, I have found that to be truly sex-positive, sex education must be empowering. It has to be collaborative, NOT authoritative to promote trust and a free exchange of ideas.
