The term ‘intuitive eating’ has been loosely thrown around for the last couple of years, but it is often out of context and misunderstood. Does it really mean eating whatever I want, whenever I want and as much as I want? Can I do it wrong? What if I find myself unable to stop eating foods I've always perceived as being unhealthy… cakes, donuts, ice cream, pies…? In this episode of MaxiChats we chat to non-diet dietician Alissa Rumsey about what exactly intuitive eating is, the principles around it and the context in which she uses it her practice. We explore the effects of dieting and why diets so often fail, how a non-diet approach may offer a solution, the importance of body acceptance in healing your relationship with food and weightloss goals in the midst of this. It is a super interesting episode and we hope that it answers any question you’ve ever had around the concept of intuitive eating. It can be tough! Staying motivated to continue with your healthy habits and taking care of yourself can become a challenge when life gets busy and rushed. And that is the thing, a healthy life means something completely different to each individual person. General guidelines that you can take and personalise to implement into your own life!

In this episode of MaxiChats we actually throw it right back to an excerpt from an interview that we recorded for episode 1 (Low Carb Diets with Alan Flanagan). In that same interview we also went into the details of where the evidence currently lies on ARTIFICIAL SWEETENERS. There is so much misinformation and noise out there that spreads unsubstantiated claims such as aspartame causing cancer, or artificial sweeteners causing obesity. Today we clear that up, and also touch on other things like whether they impact blood glucose levels or affect the microbiome, and conclude with what we can safely and practically apply to our lives today.
