**Discussion begins at 3:20**Diet Coke is a sugar-free soft drink produced by The Coca-Cola Company. It's a variation of the classic Coca-Cola, but instead of sugar, it uses the artificial sweetener aspartame to provide a sweet taste without the calories.  Diet sodas became popular in the 1960s and 1970s, as consumers became more health-conscious, leading to a growing demand for low-calorie alternatives to traditional sugary sodas.  Diet Coke was introduced by The Coca-Cola Company on July 9, 1982. It was developed as a new brand rather than a diet version of Coca-Cola. The idea was to create a distinct product that would appeal to consumers looking for a low-calorie option.  The introduction of Diet Coke was a major success, and it quickly became one of the leading diet sodas in the market. Its success can be attributed to its distinctive taste, effective marketing, and the growing trend towards healthier eating and drinking habits.  For nearly half a century, Diet Coke has remained a popular beverage.  At the same time, however, it has been blamed for contributing to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and dementia.   What is the truth?  Are the risks exaggerated, and if so why?  Or… Is Diet Coke merely a refreshing treat to be enjoyed in moderation?  Send us a textSupport the showTheme song by INDA

About the Guest(s): Dr. Kristin Hieshetter is a highly respected figure in the realm of functional health, demonstrated extensively through her dedication to educating others about the significance of comprehensive healthcare. Although her full professional history is not discussed, it is clear from the transcript that she is passionate about helping people understand their health better. Dr. Hieshetter appears to be knowledgeable about topics like excitotoxins and their impact on the human body, advocating for natural and preventative approaches to health. Episode Summary: In the latest enlightening episode of Functional Health Radio, Dr. Kristin Hieshetter dives deep into the startling downward trend of life expectancy in the United States and the rising chronic diseases among children. Initiating the conversation with disturbing healthcare statistics, she pivots to discuss the overlooked dangers of excitotoxins in our diet, linking them to neurodegenerative diseases. The episode is rich with alarming yet vital information, balancing medical insights with actionable health tips. Dr. Hieshetter references the worrying trend of decreasing life expectancy in the U.S. and contrasts it with the exorbitant healthcare spending, posing the question of what can be done differently. She introduces Dr. Russell Blaylock's research on excitotoxins, pulling lessons from historical examples such as the Chamorro Indians of Guam to underscore the dangers of dietary neurotoxins like glutamate and aspartate. The episode artfully blends anecdotes with science to underline the proposition that current dietary habits could pose a risk to neurological health, emphasizing the importance of magnesium and antioxidants for brain protection. Key Takeaways: U.S. life expectancy has fallen, and chronic diseases in children are at unprecedented rates, suggesting an urgent need for a healthcare paradigm shift. Excitotoxins like glutamate can build up to toxic levels in the brain, with prolonged exposure leading to devastating neurological diseases. Early exposure to excitotoxins has been linked to neurodegeneration, even decades later, elevating the importance of cutting these toxins from our diets. Dietary antioxidants and nutrients such as vitamin C, E, glutathione, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids are emphasized as crucial for brain health and protection. The role of excitotoxins in neurodegenerative conditions and the pivotal importance of dietary changes for prevention and recovery are central themes. Notable Quotes: "We are walking around in the most amazing, intelligent, responsive, adapting, and aware system in the world, the human body." "Excitotoxins can sometimes be linked to those disease processes in the body." "The clinical symptoms of most neurodegenerative diseases don't show up until 80% to 90% of specific cells in the spinal cord or specific regions of the brain are dead or damaged." "Magnesium is your brain's most powerful protector." "Eat your fresh fruits and vegetables, they're critical for your survival." Resources: The resources mentioned include: Dr. Russell Blaylock's book "Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills" Studies cited by Dr. Kristin Hieshetter: The works of scientists George Spencer, Leonard Kerland, and more from the 1950s to 1980s on the Chamorro Indians and excitotoxins. Functional Health Mastery For a comprehensive understanding of the ways to protect your brain from excitotoxins and the power of a natural diet, listen to the full episode. Dr. Gioffre discusses the connection between acid, gut health, inflammation, and sugar and why managing these things is crucial for living healthy. He explains the three critical problems in everybody's health while providing steps to overcome these issues in a balanced way. Tune in to learn more about acidity in our bodies and the key role it plays. The Salad With a Side of Fries podcast is hosted by Jenn Trepeck, discussing wellness and weight loss for real life, clearing up the myths, misinformation, bad science & marketing surrounding our nutrition knowledge and the food industry. Let's dive into wellness and weight loss for real life, including drinking, eating out, and skipping the grocery store.IN THIS EPISODE: [6:22] Dr. Daryl Gioffre tells us his story and what changed the course of his life and led him to become a gut specialist.[11:15] What is the connection between acid, gut health, inflammation and sugar? [15:12] What is the cause of dis-ease and why are doctors getting it wrong? [17:30] What are the three critical problems for everybody's health? [20:33] What are some signs of low stomach acid?[23:56] How can you support healthy acid?[27:05] What foods can help support proper gut health and function? [31:58] Can you drink coffee while managing your acid health? [34:26] How does alcohol affect the acidity in our body?[37:37] How do sweeteners affect our acid? [40:15] What do we need to know about sugar and how it relates to gut health and inflammation? KEY TAKEAWAYS: The best way to help increase the acid in your stomach is to take 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar + ⅓ cup warm water, and drink it 20-30 minutes prior to your biggest meal of the day. Those with acid reflux should start with ½ tsp + ⅓ cup warm water. This must be done with consistency. Artificial sweeteners are the very worst thing you can put into your body, you need to avoid them like the plague if you want to be healthy. Healing your gut is the key to healthy skin, to lowering your weight, to better brain function. That is the key to living longer. QUOTES: [11:18] “No one dies of old age, you know there's all these different diseases out there like heart disease and cancer. By the way, cancer has now overtaken heart disease as a number one killer in 21 states. You've got to understand our genes have not changed for 40,000 years, so it's not a gene issue. This is an epigenetic issue, which means the lifestyle choices we make, how you think, how you eat, how you move, lack thereof, that is going to dictate your longevity, your quality of life, and the quality of your energy.” - Dr. Daryl Gioffre [12:12] “For the first time in human history, our children have less of a lifespan than we do.” - Dr. Daryl Gioffre[15:26] “When I say get off your acid, I'm not referring to the acid in your stomach. I'm referring to the acidity in your tissues that's causing you to rust and rot from the inside out.” - Dr. Daryl Gioffre"The acid in your stomach is your first line of defense." - Dr. Daryl Gioffre"This is about fitting things into your life, not the other way around." - Dr. Daryl Gioffre"The average cup of coffee is 100x more acidic than tap water." - Dr. Daryl Gioffre[38:58] “Artificial sweeteners are dangerous, they're poison. Aspartame metabolizes into a couple of different amino acids, but one of those is actually methanol, which comes from wood alcohol, and that metabolizes into formaldehyde in your body. So literally when you are taking in these artificial sweeteners, you're putting the same things that they embalm dead bodies with into your body.” - Dr. Daryl GioffreRESOURCES:Become A Member of Salad with a Side of FriesJenn's Free Menu PlanA Salad With a Side of FriesA Salad With A Side Of Fries MerchA Salad With a Side of Fries InstagramGUEST RESOURCESGet Off Your Acid WebsiteGet Off Your Acid InstagramDr. Daryl Gioffre's InstagramGet Off Your Acid TwitterGet Off Your Acid FacebookGUEST BIODr. Gioffre is a highly sought-after gut health and inflammation specialist with over two decades of experience in the field.  Having overcome a life-long sugar addiction, in addition to his own gut and mold toxicity issues, he knows firsthand what it takes to overcome adversity and challenges in the pursuit of superior health. In addition to running the successful Alkamind brand, he is the founder of Kick Acid Enterprises, a virtual nutritional testing and coaching platform focusing on getting to the root cause of inflammation by restoring, balancing and strengthening the microbiome, what he calls GutFitness. He is also a board-certified chiropractor, Reiki Master, certified raw food chef, and author of the best-selling books Get Off Your Acid, and newly released Get Off Your Sugar: Burn the Fat, Crush Your Cravings, and Go From Stress Eating to Strength Eating.Dr. Gioffre has appeared on ‘Live with Kelly and Ryan', Good Morning America, Access Hollywood, The Doctors, Extra, E News, People Magazine, Vogue, Daily Mail, Page Six, and more to discuss his Acid-Kicking approach to health and fitness. He is a passionate motivational speaker and has been featured in many health documentaries and health summits, and currently sits on Fran Drescher's Cancer Schmancer Medical and Wellness Advisory Board.Dr. Gioffre lives in Naples, Florida with his wife Chelsea, and two children, Brayden and Alea, and dogs Sprout and Barley.

In this episode of the Nutritional Therapy and Wellness Podcast, Mike throws Jamie a pop-quiz-style twist to the format as they dive into what's been coined "greenwashing" or "health halos" as the buzzwords Big Food uses to convince you to buy their foods because these words have become known to signify or indicate healthier food options. The problem is, the front of the package doesn't always align with what you see on the back when you flip it over to read the nutrition facts and ingredients.   06:03 - GLUTEN FREE 08:39 - Email Jamie for a link to a sourdough recipe that is actually easy to understand - jbelz@nutritionaltherapy.com 10:20 - GRASSFED 18:47 - NATURAL 21:36 - ORGANIC 28:55 - LOW FAT or FAT FREE 29:21 - PLANT BASED 31:26 - SUGAR FREE (Sugar alcohols, sugar substitutes, aspartame, Stevia)   The cost of food has climbed exponentially with rocketing inflation over the past few years. Learn what these terms mean and the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to the marketing mayhem on our grocery store shelves. Anthony Chaffee Returns To Spread The Good Word On The Healthy Benefits Of The Carnivore Way Of Life: Dr. Anthony Chaffee is an American medical doctor and Neurosurgical resident who, over a span of 25+ years, has researched the optimal nutrition for human performance and health. It is his assertion that most of the so-called chronic diseases we treat as doctors are caused by the food we eat, or don't eat, and can be reversed with dietary changes to a species specific diet.Quote: Plants Are Trying To Kill YouAnthony's First Appearance on LIVETHEFUEL:https://livethefuel.com/episodes/carnivore-life-anthony-chaffee/Anthony's Second Appearance on LIVETHEFUEL:https://livethefuel.com/episodes/carnivore-vs-plant-toxins/Today's Top 3 Takeaways: The Carnivore WayCircadian RhythmGlioblastoma Brain Cancer Today's Guest & Resource Links: Websites: Dr Chaffee link tree - https://linktr.ee/DrChaffeeMDInstagram: @AnthonyChaffeeMD - https://www.instagram.com/anthonychaffeemd/YouTube channel: @AnthonyChaffeeMD - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzoRyR_nlesKZuOlEjWRXQQRumble: @AnthonyChaffeeMD - https://rumble.com/c/c-2005675X aka Twitter: @anthony_chaffee - https://twitter.com/anthony_chaffee Our Mentioned Influencers: - Dr. Chaffee's Video on Glioblastoma aka GMB Video, visit:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UhFldOKtXK8- Epic Plant Free T-Shirts from Dr. Chaffee, visit:https://plantfreetees.com/- Dr. Chris Palmer, author of Brain Energy, visit:https://www.amazon.com/Brain-Energy-Revolutionary-Understanding-Health/dp/1637741588 Watch us on YouTube: https://youtu.be/PgwSgBbgfIo Timestamped Show Notes: 14:30 – I've seen the Carnivore Lifestyle help a lot of people. I think it's important to get that message out to as many people as possible. You will get people saying whatever the hell they want to say, in a very negative fashion, but it's a vast minority of people. The vast majority of people tell me about how much better they are, how many illnesses they've fixed. They tell me how their dad's out of a nursing home and is able to live on his own again, and that he's off all his medications. Or how someone underweight has put on weight after living very frail and skinny and now he's putting on muscle again.
