Legendary Los Angeles Morning Radio Personality Ken Minyard and son, Rick discuss the current events of the day and other stuff.
Send us a textIf the title of this episode sounds like a word salad, then it's a perfect headline describing the past week in MAGA. It is useless to try to describe here. Listen and see for yourself.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textIn this episode, we focus on the first hundred days of the second Trump administration. What do we learn? We learn that Trump, in that time, has saved the lives of 75% of the American population. We learn that every single pollster and news organization is engaged in a massive conspiracy to have us believe that he and his policies are not popular. We learn that Harlem had massive protests against Harvard University that apparently nobody even knew about. We learned that Trump "did very well with black voters", which means that 16% is now defined as "very well". And we now have a new word in our vocabulary that, thanks to Trump, we now know what it means: "Grocery". What a hundred days it has been.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textQuite a week for Trump. He finally left the country to attend the funeral for the Pope and his mere presence and lack of decorum was the talk of the event. So far, even Fox News, who you'll recall damn near declared the end of our Republic when Obama wore a tan suit, and blasted the leader of the free world Volodymyr Zelensky for not wearing a jacket and tie in the Oval Office, said nothing about the blue suit and tie. Speaking of the media...in what should have been the top story of the month, if not week, was a one news cycle thing. The 60 Minutes Executive Producer Bill Owens has resigned under corporate pressure. The reasons should make our blood boil. But will anything beyond the price of groceries make our blood boil these days?Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textOnce again, another week in the books and more evidence that we are dealing with something in this country that we've never faced before. Legal residents are being snatched off of our streets and 'disappeared'. And if that alone isn't enough to cause extreme outrage, Federal Courts and even a unanimous Supreme Court rulings that the Trump administration must get them back are ignored. This is the point that we've never crossed in our history. People are outraged. Hundreds of thousands are demonstrating in cities and towns in every state and in countries across the globe. That is the good news. But it's also the bad news, as no doubt that these demonstrations will be the impetus for Trump to declare a national emergency and suspend elections. Lest you think that this is hyperbole, did you ever imagine that we'd be where we already are? How long until the inevitable violence occurs? Who could have seen all of this coming? Well, it turns out that Bernie Sanders was among those who saw it coming. We share.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textJust when you think it can't get more embarrassing or dangerous, Trump and MAGA say, "hold my beer". War planning in a group text chat, military threats to Greenland and Denmark, the Commander in Chief having no idea that 4 of our service members are missing in Lithuania. We are facing incompetence at Monty Python levels in this country.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textNot so long ago, the attitude was that "it can't happen here". This is the United States of America! The beacon for Democracies world wide! The greatest nation ever conceived! American exceptionalism! Well, in two short months, we now know that indeed it CAN happen here...it HAS happened here. Now, there are signs that perhaps a sleeping giant of sorts has been awakened due to the assault on our institutions and people are waking up. It would be wise for those who consider themselves our "Rulers" to take note that the historical reaction to despotic authoritarian rule and the often violent end that many of those historical "Rulers" met can also "happen here". Across the nation and world, reactions are growing louder and more pointed. We share some of the sounds of this reaction on this edition of Minyard & Minyard do the resistance. It's time that we all DO SOMETHING!Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textHave you noticed that each week seems like months? Hard to imagine that it's not yet been even two months that our government was handed over to a wannabe (stupid) dictator who has nothing but retribution on his agenda, and his happy band of oligarchs who are playing him like the idiot that he is. We share some of the week's highlights in this edition of Minyard & Minyard do the Resistance.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton.
Send us a textHard to believe that we're only something like six weeks into our new reality. The whole world is coming to the accurate realization that they cannon, and should not, depend on America. We are not a trustworthy people or nation. The whole concept of "American Exceptionalism" -- if it ever actually was a thing -- is now a punchline. We discuss. And Robert De Niro has some thoughts to close us out.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textAfter witnessing the obscene way in which the Trump team treated the President of our ally Ukraine on Friday, it is clear that Trump and his cronies are working for someone other than the American people and the principles of democracy. Not only has the world reacted in outrage and horror, it is the American people, our economy and standing in the world that will ultimately suffer. As his support erodes - not only around the world - but here at home, look for a repeat of history -- our Reichstag fire event that will be meant to rally the people to the authoritarian's cause and result in a premise to declare Martial Law and who knows...suspend elections? It may come in the form of a well timed explosion that can be blamed on "our enemies". It may be an assassination of some un-needed red state elected officials who would be seen as "dying for the cause". And look for the 2026 elections to be under stress like we have never seen. We are at a tipping point in this country, make no mistake. It is up to us to do something about this.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textFun and games are over. Because the Westport development residents in Oxnard California have had enough and are not going to take it any longer! The birth of Resistance Westport has taken flight and is welcoming all like-minded members of the resistance to MAGA to join them in fighting back against the gangster government that is trying to take control of the nation. We discuss. Check them out at Resistance Westport on Facebook and GET INVOLVED!Also, the real reason that not a single Republican is willing to stand up to the Gangster and his henchman Elon Musk: they're afraid of being murdered.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textWe can stop pretending now. A fascist oligarchy is running the country. If events in recent days haven't convinced you that Trump isn't simply a figurehead, and that Musk isn't his Rasputin, then Michael Steele would like to have a word with you. This, therefore is the Elon Musk edition of the podcast.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textIn recognition of Ken's Birthday today, we've prepared a BLOCKBUSTER of an edition! Well, we think so anyway. As our government careens further into idiocy, and we further become a world-wide laughingstock, we provide proof as to why this is an accurate assessment of The United States in 2025. Perhaps the best example of this is illustrated in their own words by "Youknowwho", Tommy Tubberville and Patrick Mahomes this week. And we'll let you decide if the fictional President of the fictional nation of San Marcos in the 1971 Woody Allen film, "Bananas" was channeling a certain future real-life leader.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textIf it's not plainly clear by now, we have handed the country over to a homicidal maniac hell-bent on taking out anyone and everyone he perceives as having slighted him. And that list is long and very distinguished. He has been mocked and laughed at his entire life, and always gotten by thanks to his daddy's money and influence. He is living his fantasy of being a mob boss who issues life and death orders that he expects to be followed without question. Hyperbole? Explain the removal of the Secret Service protection from people who he perceives have betrayed him...Pompeo, Bolton, Fauci...all of whom are facing death threats from domestic and foreign sources. Further, explain why...upon removing the protection...he felt the need to publicize it so openly and proudly. He is actually saying that he wants these people dead. Like a mob boss would. Never saying the exact words, but making it clear nonetheless. So what now? Unless the opposition finds their spine and begins to fight with tougher tactics, we may be well on our way to a dystopian nightmare. And it's only been two weeks...(Thank you Merrick Garland.~ Rick)
Send us a textIt's only been 6 days, but already it's clear that we are headed for some very tough times in this country. In that short amount of time, we've seen deportation raids on workplaces, homes, schools, churches. Congress is confirming some of the most inexperienced and dangerous people to head our Defense and Intelligence agencies. All out attack on transgendered citizens. The release of violent terrorists back into our communities. The co-President delivering Nazi salutes to followers, then trying to gaslight us by suggesting that it was "a Roman salute". Next up: inflation inducing tariffs. So we all have to choose. Are we simply going to allow ourselves to be victimized? Are we going to become an organized resistance movement? Or will we be conspirators? Really funny how history repeats itself, which is why it's so baffling as to why most people in this country are so uninterested, and thus ignorant, of history and it's implications.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textOK, so we have to find new ways of resisting what is about to happen to us as a nation. Overall, non-compliance whenever and wherever possible is how we're proceeding. But we have another way to proceed also. Simply don't use his name. We are from this day forward simply calling him "YouNoHoo". Everything this guy does is self-promoting, as putting his name on everything shows, so simply refuse to use his name. Easy enough. We discuss this, and lots more on the latest episode.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textOK, so not as dramatic as it sounds, but we needed something sexy in the title of the episode. After taking time off to regain our sanity after the election...an effort that may not have been successful...we are back and have thoughts about our current situation as a nation. We see things somewhat differently on certain aspects, but agree that we're in for another stressful period while we watch the oligarchs take even broader control. We share some thoughts of a Professor at NYU who thinks that we are headed for a revolution in this country because of the unsustainable wealth disparity that promises to only get worse. We also look at the media's ineptitude and the sewer that is social media today.
Send us a textAs we collect ourselves in the new reality of just where we are now that the people have spoken, we realize that we need a break. In this episode, we share our thoughts on the election, and the need for some time to detox. The podcast will return in 2025. See you next year!We will stay engaged on our Facebook groups and hope to see you there.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textWe share the highlights, or lowlights, of the final week of the election cycle. By now, we all know the stakes and what to do. See you all on the other side...minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textThe campaigns are bringing out their big guns in the last days of the campaign. Harris has billionaires Beyonce, Springsteen and Mark Cuban as well as Barack and Michelle Obama to bring it home. Meanwhile, Trump is handing out French Fries from a drive thru window, and standing up audiences in Michigan while he tries to reach young men by chatting with Joe Rogan. He has Tucker Carlson opening for him by delivering a very creepy monologue. And yet, they tell us that it's a toss-up election. minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textHard to tell who had the worst week between Trump, Ted Cruz and Bret Baier. Steve Schmidt summarizes pretty well just what Kamala Harris did to Baier, while Colin Allred treated Ted Cruz like a piñata. But the award has to go to Trump, who got humiliated at an event in Chicago, and decimated at an Hispanic Town Hall in Miami and finished the week by failing to resist the urge to discuss Arnold Palmer's penis. USA! USA!Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textHow much crazier and more dangerous can Trump and his MAGA acolytes rhetoric get? This past week shows that Trump is nervous...very nervous and willing to put lives in danger with his lies. Buckle in, because the next three weeks is going to be rough. We've already voted. Have you? Also, M & M's first ever movie review! minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textAs the polls continue to track for Harris/Walz, and the prospect of incarceration comes more closely into focus, Trump grows more and more desperate and delusional. One month from now, we'll have a clearer picture of our fate as a nation. Make your plans to vote.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textIn just over a month, the most important national election in our nation's history will take place. Our choice is between an insane, authoritarian wannabe who is literally losing his mind more by the day, and a truly historic and competent candidate. For some reason, polls tell us that the race is close. We'll have to deal with that later, but one thing is clear, it's not too early to make your voting plans. Don't wait for the last minute where natural disasters or other factors might impede your ability to cast your vote. End this nightmare. But first, listen to some of the insanity from this past week.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textThere was so much idiocy on display this past week, that we decided to devote the entire show to the sounds of that idiocy. As usual, virtually all of it leads back to Trump. Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Send us a textKen has cheated the Grim Reaper once again and is back in the saddle. So...what'd we miss the past 5 weeks?minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Will Rogers famous quote "I am not a member of any organized political party. I am a Democrat" may finally have become obsolete. In a short 3 weeks, the Democrats, and more specifically the Harris campaign, has made all the right moves and have come from behind like a sprinter running down her opponents in the last 100 meters of a long race. As their convention approaches, how much better can it get for them, and concurrently, how much worse for Trump? Things are good.minyard.minyard podcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
After the NABJ convention debacle, a veteran GOP political pundit said “He did crap the bed. … The only question is whether he's going to roll around in it or get up and change the sheets.” Well, he couldn't help himself during a Klan...er...MAGA rally in Atlanta, he did it again. This time, he continually attacked the popular Governor Brian Kemp in his home state, prompting one unnamed Republican advisor to say "he just lost Georgia". There is little debate that the man simply isn't well, as we discuss. minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
One week ago, in an instant, everything changed. It's now game on, and Trump is struggling to figure out how to deal with what is happening. minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
As the nation sorts through all of the conspiracy theories from the assassination attempt on Trump, and survives the absolute clown show that was the GOP convention, we again ask the question of when (not if) Joe Biden will step aside for a younger Democrat who will defeat Trump and hopefully put an end to the MAGA nightmare. Meanwhile, Ken makes the case that President Biden will someday merit inclusion onto Mount Rushmore...IF he steps aside now and allows someone else to finish the job.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
President Biden is so far ignoring the borderline panic and political crisis that is building among Democrats and freedom-loving people across the globe. He stubbornly resists the calls for him to step down from the campaign and pass the baton to a younger generation. He says that he'll only step aside if the "good Lord Himself" tells him to. Our question is: "How do we know that this isn't the good Lord doing just that"? We have the speech already written that Biden should give next week.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Three things happened at the disaster of what was called a "debate" last Thursday. 1. Biden was terrible. 2. Trump unleashed an avalanche of bullshit "the likes of which we've never seen".3. CNN crashed and burned while Jake Tapper and Dana Bash ended their careers for all intents and purposes. What now? We discuss.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
No way around it. Last night was a fiasco. A disgusting and incompetent and lie-filled performance by Trump should have been destroyed by his debate opponent and the moderators. Instead, we are now faced with the fact that Biden is not up to the task and must be replaced immediately. CNN has also failed again in not addressing the avalanche of bullshit that Trump unleashed. Strap in. It's gonna be a wild ride.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Gotta love Louisiana. Thanks to their Governor signing into law there a mandate for all schools, public and private, to post the Ten Commandments in classrooms, Trump has had to deal with the issue. And Trump being Trump, went all in on the idea in front of the Faith and Freedom Conference. Now, let's take a look at those Ten Commandments and just how Trump measures up. Meanwhile, it's Debate Week! What could possibly go wrong?Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
The past week featured a convicted felon with dozens of still pending charges sweep into town, where they threw a mob-style welcome home party for him. This leads to lots of questions. Associating with known criminals is disqualifying for just about any job in the country, so why do we accept that these weak examples of leaders are worthy of our most precious tool...our vote? We discuss.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
While we endure the period between verdict and sentence, and the GOP is out twisting itself into knots in defense of the convicted felon, Trump has some time on his hands to get back in front of microphones at rally's and interviews. And being Trump, he's making a fool of himself. We brought the receipts.minyard.minyard@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Between now and July 11th, Judge Juan Merchan will be deciding what to do with convicted felon Donald Trump. We will hear daily predictions of "no incarceration", "home confinement", "probation", "community service" and "prison time". One thing is certain, Merchan's decision will cause half of our political populace to lose their shit. MAGA is already floating around in the dark spaces of the internet that they are locked and loaded and waiting for Trump to give the signal. Strap in over the next month and a half and prepare for all of the noise to follow. Maybe we'll be surprised and the fever will break. Yeah, sure it will...minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
If the big news networks can do it, why can't we? Trump goes down!minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.com
General consensus is that if a verdict comes down this week, it's bad news for Trump. Here's hoping for a lightning fast verdict!Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
OK, so now the future of the country, no, the world rests in the hands of a dozen New Yorkers, and then hopefully a Judge who will impose an appropriate sentence to the criminal. And we wait...minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Ken and Rick discuss the highlights of the past week, and imagine different scenarios pertaining to the elections this year. Either way, the coming holiday season is going to be...different. minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
So Ken is back from his planned month-long road trip...after a week...? He'll provide a full explanation. We get all caught up on what has happened over the past two weeks in the world at large, and in Trump world of course. Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Ken is traveling for the next several weeks, and is sending us reports from the road. We follow his early progress in this episode, while discussing the much anticipated start to the first of many criminal trials of Donald Trump.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Ken and Rick have decidedly differing views on how AG Merrick Garland has handled the Trump investigation. We debate. We also explore how Evangelical Christians have destroyed their credibility with their slavish devotion to Trump. Lawrence O'Donnell had a monologue for the ages this past week in anticipation of the trial starting in Manhattan, while Trump's attorneys show just how competent they are. All this and more...minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Last week, we explored the great American Tradition of Pitch Men, and made the argument that Trump is the greatest of all time. His grift has gotten him to the highest office in the land and convinced 70 million of our fellow voters to be convinced that he's the one to save us. Well, in this episode, we feature one more that certainly should have been included last week. Alex Jones. minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Dating back 200 years or more, with the 'Snake Oil Salesmen', and others hawking their wares door-to-door or at County Fairs or boardwalks, America enjoys a long tradition of pitch men. We explore some of the best in the past 40 years or so, and ask where the line is between pitch men and grifter. There is no doubt that there is one who stands out as the best in history.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton.
In a wild several days including Trump obtaining both another delay in one case, and a three week warning before a Jury is set to be seated in another...we share some of the Elon Musk interview with Don Lemon that ultimately got Lemon fired on his first day on the job at the app formerly known as Twitter. Was it the questions about Musk's tolerance of Nazi's and white nationalists? Or perhaps it was the challenges to Musk's assertions that the old Twitter was a bastion for leftists. Or maybe the pressure that Lemon offered on Musk's use of Ketamine. We discuss.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
There is no disputing that America is at a place that we've not been since the 1860's. We really are two separate nations. Our differences appear to be irreconcilable. Therefore, instead of taking up arms and killing our fellow citizens over politics and whether we should convert from a Democratic Republic to an Authoritarian form of government, why not negotiate a civil separation and create the Red States of America and the Blue States of America? Each state can hold referendums on which side they'd like to align themselves with. We can negotiate all of the various aspects of future cooperation and revenue agreements among the two new countries, elect respective head's of state, representatives and such. Each state could enact it's own border policies, taxation policies and welfare policies. Interstate travel would be negotiated, civil liberties would have to be agreed to in advance, but Blue States would be responsible for their affairs, and likewise for the Red States. A joint defense pact would be negotiated as well. This way, we can avoid the obvious bloodshed that would arise if we do it the old fashioned way. We discuss this and much more.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
Big week. MAGA finally ran out the clock on Nikki Haley with the Super Tuesday results. President Biden blew away the low expectations set by both left and right by delivering a forceful State of the Union address, Eric Swalwell schools MAGA members of congress on the border bill, and Marjorie Taylor Greene told a foreign journalist to fuck off when asked about Jewish space lasers. Just another week.minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
The election of 2024, and quite probably the future of American democracy comes down to a battle between two grandpas. One, a kindly and beloved man with a loving family and a history of kindness and caring, and the other a career con man who has cheated and lied his way through life, and is threatening to end our system of government. We discuss.Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.commusic by David Horton
This week, psychologist Dr John Gartner, formerly of Johns Hopkins University Medical School, sounded the alarm...on Donald Trump. Trump's slurring and inability to sometimes formulate complete sentences appears to be a sign of growing dementia and possible early stages of Alzheimer's. He asserts that Trump is becoming more dangerous by the day. "This is a tale of two brains. Biden's brain is aging. Trump's brain is dementing," he says. "He just becomes incomprehensible when he engages in free association word salad speech that is all over the place. Again, that's a sign of real brain damage, not being old, not being slow, not losing a step not being, but of severe cognitive deterioration." "What I don't understand is why those clips aren't replayed over and over in the mainstream media. Isn't Trump babbling incoherently the most newsworthy part of his rally? You can be sure it would be if it were Biden." Don't believe him? We provide ample evidence via those clips in this episode from just one of Donald Trump's speeches this past week. You decide.
Aside from another mass shooting at a Super Bowl celebration, a massive, multi-hundreds of millions of dollars judgement against Trump and his spawn, the assassination of the leading opposition figure in Russia by Putin a month before the elections there...did anything of interest happen this week?Minyard.minyardpodcast@gmail.comMusic by David Horton
