This week's marriage betrayal should make it abundantly clear that the Republican Party is irremediably broken and that we will never fix the federal system. The only hope is for a hyper-local focus on issues and accountability in the red states, while simultaneously pushing takeovers at a local level and running independent candidates as needed. We also must be willing to finally shoot the hostage and pledge to oppose establishment Republicans in general elections under most circumstances. But to do this, we first need to red-pill our own voters, and that is our job. Next, we're joined by Wyoming state Rep. Chuck Gray, who was just elected as the state's secretary of state and lieutenant governor. He explains the challenges and opportunities in making red states red again and some of the biggest issues we must focus on to flush the corporatists from those states. Either way, what we are doing now is not working, and we need a new strategy.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Today, I discuss how Mitch McConnell and Republicans continue promoting the Ukraine and vaccination agendas – the biggest issues of our time – because conservatives fail to focus on what matters. This is manifesting in deep red states too, as we fail to pass our agenda because of a lack of focus. We are joined by attorney Brian Festa of We the Patriots USA, who has a client in Idaho being denied entry into a day care because her girl didn't get all the vaccines. How can we have vaccine mandates even in Idaho? Worse, the attorney for the day care cited actions by the RINO governor as support for the day care's actions. Festa discusses the need to add health status to state civil rights bills so that nobody can be discriminated against on account of lack of medical interventions. Learn more about your ad choices. This week on Breaking Battlegrounds, Chuck and Sam are joined by syndicated radio host Erick Erickson for a look at last week's election and what it might mean for the upcoming Georgia senate election and the 2024 presidential election.-Erick, a native of Louisiana who grew up in Dubai, had been a practicing attorney for six years in Macon. He handled corporate law, estates, and elections. He served as a volunteer attorney for President Bush's election and re-election. He managed and consulted on federal, state, and local campaigns. One day a partner in his law firm came in and asked him, “Do you know what the definition of a d*****s is?”“No,” Erick replied.“You,” the partner said. “Go do politics. That's your passion.”Two weeks before his wife gave birth to their first child, Erick told her he was leaving his law practice to become a full time blogger. Some friends had started the website RedState.com and they wanted to put him in charge of it. That was 2005.Two years later, Erick was elected to city council in Macon, Georgia, where he served until being offered a job on radio full time at WSB.In 2009, CNN hired Erick to be a political contributor. In 2010, the local radio host in Macon, Georgia got arrested then lost his job and the station needed someone to fill in quickly. They asked Erick, given his background on TV.With no radio experience, Erick sat behind the microphone three hours a day every day for three months until they found a replacement. He got paid in an expired gift certificate to Outback Steakhouse. The replacement quickly got promoted to another market and Erick again went back, with no pay, to take the microphone until a replacement was found. While there, a vacancy came open in Atlanta, Georgia on WSB Radio due to Herman Cain's run for President. On January 11, 2011, during an ice storm that forced Erick to sleep on the floor of his office his first week on radio, he started his show. He has been there ever since.During his eight years on radio, Erick has been a regular guest host for Neal Boortz, Herman Cain, and Rush Limbaugh.A few years ago, Erick also started work on his M.Div at Reformed Theological Seminary. He connects to his audience with a plethora of knowledge about politics, life, raising kids, and even cooking.Erick lives in Macon, Georgia with his wife, two children, and golden doodle.-George serves as President of Data Orbital and Managing Partner of The Resolute Group. In addition to that, he also hosts his own podcast called "The Chris Stigall Podcast" and another podcast with his wife called "Making The Leap". The link to Chris' website is below this description and while you're on his website, be sure to look into joining the Chris Stigall Harrumph Society, "founded to advance the understanding of current events. Preserving and protecting our culture and Constitutional Republic requires informed, steely-eyed voters who aren't easily distracted". Chris, Jillian and I have many things in common. Aside from our conservative views, we each worked at Q104 (KBEQ FM) in Kansas City. In this episode (24), Chris joins Jillian Gregg and I to discuss how he got into radio by being a super fan of The Randy Miller Morning Show. With an overwhelming desire and commitment to do whatever it took to get a shot in radio, Randy took a liking to him and gave him an opportunity to work along side and behind the scenes. Which later exposed Chris' work ethic to Program Director, Mike Kennedy, who later offered him a job out of college at Northwest Missouri State. Upon leaving Q104, Chris remained in the Kansas City market working at a few different stations before leaving for Philadelphia. The title of this episode perfectly summarizes this nearly 3 hour discussion. Aside from talking about his fascinating start to his radio career and the stops along the way, Chris also dives into the current American political climate. From the 2022 midterm elections, to the recent announcement of Donald Trump running for the Presidency in 2024, to the hype of Ron DeSantis and the issues within the Republican party. We close out the show talking about Chris' commitment to his christian faith. In doing so, Chris is vulnerable and open about his battle with anxiety and stress and using alcohol "heavily" (as he put it) to cope but later being freed from daily drinking and now sober for nearly 4 years. Chris is a very talented, smart and well-spoken man with a genuine heart and I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. I think you'll enjoy it also. Watch this episode on Spotify or YouTube. James Comer of Kentucky, has been credibly accused by his college girlfriend of violence, psychological abuse, threatening her life, and driving her to the clinic to abort their child. (2:05) Did they think that because the story broke seven years ago it had fallen off the internet? The first full day they are the Majority-Elect they trot out a new head of House Oversight, James Comer of Kentucky, who announces a Hunter Biden investigation and then says "I want to be clear: This is an investigation of JOE Biden." (3:05) No, let ME be clear: this needs to be an investigation of JAMES COMER. This is where this crap STOPS. (5:20) You don't like this kind of stuff? This is the only way to STOP this kind of stuff: the bully has to get the crap beaten out of him, and James Comer is the bully here. Let's Go. (7:15) What the GOP should've announced it was investigating was Ticketmaster (9:10) Still the co-defendant in the Republican Investigation Machine is the media. The Washington Examiner and Red State didn't headline Comer's Folly over Pelosi's Retirement - CNN and The New York Times did. (11:50) And once again CNN's Chief Chris Licht stepped right up with that big "Hit Me" sign around his neck and said "So the play is not to be offensive to A side, right?" I'll explain how wrong he is. (13:43) The good news is: the Democrats are finally getting smart, and David Brock has left Media Matters to run a "SWAT Team" that will investigate the GOP investigators. And they can start with the James Comer scandal. Oh, did I mention the James Comer scandal? EPISODE 75: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Well THAT was fun! Enjoy retaining the Senate and the fascists turning on Trump and then FORGET IT AND GET BACK TO WORK (2:32) Ever seen the movie "Carrie"? There is a lesson for us in it. When you think you have ended Carrie's reign of horror, make sure you burn the grave, salt the earth, and encase everything in concrete before she can reach up from hell to grab you. They are not defeated, they are developing a new Supreme Court scheme as we speak (4:26) Be aggressive - like Pelosi and Schumer planning to raise the debt limit during the Lame Duck session (5:44) And consider the more outlandish ideas: nominating Liz Cheney to be Speaker or offering cabinet or ambassador slots to uninfected GOP Congressmen (7:20) Because the fascists will now cut to the chase: supporters of a different Kari are calling for a military takeover of the government so they can get a new vote in Arizona (8:47) Now is the time to strike because they are burning down their own house: attacking Trump, McConnell, McCarthy and Ronna Romney while Trump cultists like Ann Coulter and Glenn Youngkin's Lieutenant Governor and even the DILBERT GUY bail on Trump (10:43) But now the next threat comes into focus: The Federalist Society is so hellbent to enact "Independent State Legislature Theory" that it has purged its own co-founder because he doesn't believe in it. Supreme Court Barbie - Amy Coney Barrett - and the other fascists do, as you'll hear. And to stop them, we'll need to designate The Federalist Society as a terrorist organization. B-Block (18:00) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Maslow in Pennsylvania (19:02) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Coincidence? Trump wanted to "get the IRS on" Comey and McCabe. And each was then hit with a rare invasive audit. (21:07) IN SPORTS: No experience? No problem! Jeff Saturday wins in NFL coaching debut (23:39) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: A New Jersey Republican official calls the cops on a 9-year old African-American girl who "scared him." He competes with Sarah "They think we're stupid" Palin and Donald "They stole the ELECTRON from Blake Masters" Trump for the dishonors. C-Block (29:36) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: I really did fall off a cliff (well, a pretty tall rock outcropping) filming a TV Commercial for Boston Market. But that's only part of the story. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”The Lord sent his only Son to carry the weight of all sin, past, present and future and to die as payment for the sins we can never pay. Veteran journalist William Kleinknecht writes that there has been a lurch to the right in Republican-controlled statehouses across the country that has had dire results for ordinary citizens but, until very recently, has largely escaped the lens of the national media.

Digging a Hole: The Legal Theory Podcast

This week we have Jacob Grumbach on the pod! Jake is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of Washington and the producer of fantastic Twitter content @JakeMGrumbach. His new book Laboratories against Democracy discusses the causes and consequences of the nationalization of state politics. To begin, Jake walks us through the three consequences. First, national partisan and activist groups have nationalized state politics and transformed state governments. Second, this has made policy more varied across states depending on which political party has control in a state. Third, national groups have used state government to suppress the vote, gerrymander, and erode the foundations of democracy. We also dive into the formation and implications of Jake's State Democracy Index. Going beyond the book, we discuss some of our favorite topics. Sam asks for the comparative angle – is nationalization occurring across federal systems worldwide and is nationalization inevitable? David asks about progressive federalism and if state politics is a viable path for liberals seeking national reform. Lastly, we dive into potential solutions to the negative consequences of nationalization of state politics. Should we just abolish states? This is a really fun episode and we think you'll enjoy it as much as we did!
