Alas, we have reached the final set of "7's" in Revelation: the 7 bowls of God's wrath! We've been operating under the idea that each set of 7 (7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 signs, and 7 bowls) are all talking about the same period of time from different perspectives. Last night, our pastoral intern Braden Shannon walked us through the 7 bowls of God's wrath. It's a heavier section of Revelation, but that doesn't make it any less important for our day to day lives. So have a listen! We're glad you're here! Let's get into it :)

Because it is here that we see dragons, sea-beasts, earth-beasts, pregnant women clothed with celestial bodies, and probably the MOST debated part of all: the dreaded Mark of the Beast. In this episode of our Revelation series, we are tackling ALL of it! Who or what is the Sea-Beast? What's the deal with the Dragon and the woman? And above all, what is the mark of the beast, and do we have to be worried about taking it?We're glad you're here! There are parts of Revelation that are pretty straightforward. There are other parts that are hotly debated. Our passage for this week is one of the latter! At youth group last week, we tackled what is colloquially called "The Two Witnesses". They are given authority to breathe fire from their mouths to consume their foes, as well as shut up the sky and turn water into blood. Many people believe that Revelation is foretelling two literal witnesses who will appear and do these things. But could it be that something else is going on in this passage? So join us as we talk about "The Two Witnesses"! In our second part of our sub-series on spiritual warfare, we talk about the Biblical evidence that supports the fact that there are rebellious spiritual beings out there who are opposed to the will of God, and we outline this but unpacking three scenes of spiritual Rebellion, all of which can be found in the first 11 chapters of Genesis :)Thanks for joining us! One of the most controversial subjects in Christianity, at least in the west, is the concept of spiritual warfare. Some believe it doesn't even exist. Others believe it's real but has nothing to do with us. Still, others believe we are intimately involved with it.It may be surprising to you to know that spiritual warfare is treated as a reality in the book of Revelation! From monsters that arise from the earth to each church having an "angel", the spiritual realm seems to litter much of this incredible book. Because of this, we gotta talk about it!So join us for part 1 of our 3 part series on spiritual warfare! What's a youth pastor and pastoral intern to do?Well, you create a new podcast series!Welcome to the first episode in our "Apologetics On Demand" (name pending) series! The point of this series is for Braden and I to ask each other questions about the faith, and then we have to answer those questions without having done any previous research or prep. Why? Because 90% of the time that's exactly how life goes for the believer! 9 times out of 10 we will be asked a question on the fly, and we'll have to be prepared to give a reason for the hope that we have on demand. The rules are simple: Braden and I will flip-flop asking each other common questions about the faith without having told each other what those questions are. We then must answer that question without having prepped for it. We are allowed to say "I don't know, but I will do research and come back to you" if we don't feel comfortable answering the question, because it's okay to say that in real life too!We hope you enjoy this first episode. Today's questions were:Is original sin biblical?Did Jesus actually suffer anything if He only died for three days? What are your thoughts on Lucifer? Can God create a rock that's too heavy for Him to lift? How would you debate a Jehovah's Witness?Welcome! When I was a teenager, I assumed that there was only one way to read Revelation. And, in a way, there IS only one way to read Revelation, which is the same way we read the rest of the Bible: in it's proper context. But due to it's blend of prophetic, apocalyptic, and epistolary elements, Revelation feels a little more difficult to simply read "within it's context".Because of this, certain methodologies have arisen throughout history that have sought to make sense of Revelation within it's context. In today's episode of our bonus content series "REVELING in Revelation", Braden and I explore the 4 main methodologies used to understand this incredible (and slightly confusing) book! We unpack what they are, what their strengths are, as well as their weaknesses. So if you've ever been interested in the various ways in which Revelation has been interpreted, or if you've never given any thought to it until today, give us a listen! We're glad you're here, let's get into it :)

But what's really cool about Jesus' message to the church in Philadelphia is how Jesus handles their doubts. Welcome to our first bonus episode in our Revelation series, a series we are calling "Revelation REWIND"!The book of Revelation is very much knit together with the end times, which makes sense because Revelation does talk about the end of the world! Believe it or not, there is an official doctrine in the Christian faith that talks about the end times. It's called "Eschatology", and a couple years ago I was asked to teach a class at our church on what that doctrine actually is. During my study, I found it helpful to categorize "eschatology" into two camps: The "open handed" camp, which encompasses all end-times issues that are debated among Christians and theologians (like the rapture, the state of Israel, the anti-Christ, and the millennial). And the "closed handed" camp, which encompasses all the stuff that is agreed upon by everyone across the board (like Jesus' second coming, the resurrection, final judgment, and restoration). So if you have ever been interested in eschatology, and if you've ever been intrigued to learn more about what is for certain vs. what is up in the air, have a listen to this episode! If someone gave you the choice right now between living and dying, I'm willing to bet we'd choose living. We don't want to die. It's one of the most universally feared concepts to ever exist. It's ironic, then, that we fear death so much, yet so many of us wander through this life not really LIVING life. The apostle Paul is in prison while writing to the Philippian church, and his life is on the line. His fate will be decided at his upcoming trial, and he does what one usually does in that situation: he ponders what it means to live and die... and his thoughts are very surprising! So if you have ever wondered, "what does it mean to really live?" Or pondered the question, "how can I be sure of what's on the other side of death?" This episode is for you! We're glad you're here, let's get into it :)

This episode is different from our other heresy episodes, mainly because this one serves more as an intro into our next sub-series of heresies that deals with Jesus' humanity/divinity. Since it's an intro, it's a little more surface level because it isn't just one heresy, it's a blanket term that deals with multiple heresies. So it's important to listen to this one! That way the next few episodes will make more sense. So what is "subordinationism"? Have a listen! We're glad you're here, let's get into it :)

There are a few things in this world that are universal to every human. One of those is "suffering". It doesn't matter who you are, eventually, you will suffer. However, the Bible's stance on suffering is unique, because it teaches us that, for the follower of Jesus, joy can be found in the midst of the suffering.Paul is in prison while writing the letter to the Philippians. It's safe to say that he is experiencing a season of suffering. But it's precisely this truth, that followers of Jesus can find joy in the midst of their suffering, that Paul is sharing with the Philippians. So how can we find joy in the midst of our suffering? Why don't you have a listen and find out! We're glad you're here, let's get into it :)

Our text for today is a prayer that Paul offers up for his friends, the Philippian church. For many people, when it comes to teaching or preaching the Bible, especially prayers like in our text, the application can quickly become something like, "be more like Paul" or "pray more like Paul". Well, I don't know how to tell you this, but you're not Paul (unless your name is Paul, in which case you're not the Paul who wrote Philippians). However, that doesn't mean you can't take ANYTHING from his prayers, and Philippians 1: 1-11 is no different. What are the core values behind what Paul is communicating to the Philippians? And what do those core values have to do with us? As you'll see, Paul's core values in our text center around not just friendship, but TRUE friendship, and what it means to have true friendship. So what does it mean to have true friendship? Well, take a listen! We're glad you're here, let's get into :)

Whereas most of Paul's letters deal with correcting faulty teaching or rebuking those who are walking apart from Christ, Philippians is a letter dripping with joy and friendship. But, as with ALL books in the Bible, if you want to understand it better, you have to know the context. If that's what you're looking for, you're in the right place! So welcome listener! One of my favorite shows growing up was "Power Rangers"! It was so good, so campy, and so predictable. The Power Rangers would fight the puddies, then the big bad guy would should up, they'd get in their Zords (which were these dinosaur robots), fight the bad guy, the bad guy would power up and the zords couldn't cut it anymore, so they'd all join together to form Mega Zord, and He was powerful enough to beat the bad guy and win the day! So good! However, if you were like me, eventually you ask the question, "If you aren't at your most powerful until you all join to become Mega Zord... why not just stay as Mega Zord all the time?"Did you know there is a heresy that treats God like a Mega Zord? It's called "partialism", and if you want to know more about it, then welcome to this episode of Mission Hill Youth's podcast series called "A Little Dose of Heresy". We're glad you're here! We say it all the time, especially in church circles. "God is love, God loves you, Jesus saves, salvation belongs to the Lord!" And it's true! These are true statements! But sometimes we say these things without giving a second thought to the reality of what they truly mean. The truth is, the width and height and depth of the love of God is incomprehensible... and a little offensive. We are in the final chapter of Jonah, and in it we'll see Jonah's stunning reaction to the mercy of God. And at first it sounds completely ridiculous, but if we truly sit on it and think about it, I think we can actually identify with Jonah. For some people, that's a scary place to be in. But I think for the author of Jonah, that's right where he wants you.Welcome! We're glad you're here, let's get into it!

Psychology tells us that how we think about things often reveals a lot about us. For example, did you know that when we picture in our minds the people we respect, they tend to be taller than they actually are? Fascinating stuff! But that's how we picture people we respect. But how do we picture the people we don't respect? That's the question at the forefront of our lesson in Jonah for this week. As we walk through Jonah 3: 6-10, the author of Jonah invites us to consider something really important: how we picture our enemies reveals a lot about our own hearts, and how WE see our enemies vs. how GOD sees your enemy are two very different pictures.Join us as we are confronted with our ideas of our enemies! It's understandable, but it's also problematic, because when we do that, we are really showing that we don't trust that God can move EVEN IF we are a mess.In our story for this lesson, we will see that this is not the case. In fact, we will see God move in a powerful way despite Jonah's clear imperfections, and I think it carries a powerful message that can free us up from that kind of fear!Welcome to the 5th episode of our Jonah series. One of the doctrines that make Christianity unique is the doctrine of the Trinity. We worship a God who exists as three distinct persons, all having the same essence. In other words, the God we worship is 3 "who's", 1 "what".This can be a difficult concept to comprehend! In fact, for some people it has proven to be so difficult and complicated, that they have rejected it altogether in favor of other explanations that are "easier" to understand. But just because something is "easier" to understand doesn't mean it's true, and that is where our next heresy comes into play, which is "Modalism".What is "Modalism"? Listen and find out!
